Old User deleted after install.

Ok, so basically I am stupid, didn't read all of these forums before starting, and I simply installed the program onto my MBP (why can't it just be this simple?). So I installed everything on my wife's computer and everything went just fine. I proceeded to install on my computer and backed up only important school files, and got the whole blue screen thing everyone else did. I looked on here and figured everything out so that it installed. Then I had the password problem. Solved that one. However, I didn't want to establish a new user, but wanted all of the old information and settings from my old username to pass on to the new system. For some reason, that didn't happen although the files are still on my computer. I created folders "On My Mac" in mail, and those folders no longer exist in Mail. The folders are still on my computer, and I can still find them in the finder and spotlight, but I cannot seem to get them back (restored) into Mail. Is there anyway I can just get my old user settings back so that things are back to normal? I am getting very frustrated.

Ok, so I finally fixed the problem. I had to create a new account with the same shortname as the account that I had lost. Luckily, there was a folder called Prvious Systems, and I dragged the old user account right on top of the old one, and it worked for the most part, except now I only have one GB left after multiple installs. So I imported the user account to another computer (luckily I have two), and am in the process of completely wiping out the hard drive and loading on Tiger and then Leopard once again, I will then import the account using migration assistant. Applecare saved me.

  • Can't access old user folders after archive and install

I had a disc failure on my old iBook G4 (no wonder) and after repairing the disc and archiving and reinstalling Tiger 10.4.11, I can't open any of my old user folders. Mostly I need the iTunes library in one user folder. How do I get at it? Will setting it up as a target disc give me access to that music?

These are the likely files that hold Network settings...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

  • Unable to log in to user account after installing windows 7 using Bootcamp

    Hi everyone,
I need help. I have been at it for days, I have googled every which way but I am not able to fix this. Basically my problem is that I am unable to log in to my user account after I used Bootcamp to install windows 7. I will explain what I did up until I couldn't log in.
I backed up my user account using Time Machine(I was logged in as the user). The account had FileVault activated and I neglected to disable FileVault before back up. I just didn't think to, it did not even occur to me! Then I partitioned Macintosh HD, I was doing this with my step son and he thought we were supposed to partition the hard drive first before running Bootcamp! After that was done, I couldn't run Bootcamp because obviously we had whipped the HD clean! Anyway, I reinstalled the OS X using the internet, after which I run Bootcamp and successfully installed windows 7. Then I went on to restore my account using Time Machine, only when I try to log in I get the error message "you are unable to log in to the user account at this time". I tried every possible solution I could find on here, including creating a new admin account, deleting the old account but saving the user folder and then routing the new account to the old user folder. Still nothing. I have tried logging in as a root user, reset the master password and deleted FileVault files from Library/keychain in the hope I would access the user account, but to no avail. What's more is that I can't even see the sparse bundle or sparse image files that people keep referring too. I can't even find it on the Time Machine back up! I then thought I would cut my losses and try system recovery using Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery (cost me £81) but it did not recover any of my photos, music, videos or documents.
I honestly can't come to terms with the fact that I am unable to login to an account with 3 years worth of pictures and documents. I am having a hard time letting go. Is there anyway possible to crack this?
    Thank you in advance.
By the way, I am running Mountain Lion OX 10.8.4 on MacBook mid 2010

I have this exact problem. Installed Bootcamp on a networked iMac running Mountain lion and and can no longer log in to my Mac user account. Would love if any of the pro users on here can shed a bit of light.

  • How Make TS local User Profile After Install Windows 7 without Domain

    Hi,
I make TS to install Windows 7 Is success But after finish install i cannot login
If something need to add TS user local profile after install Windows 7 Without Join the Domain And make the user Administrator LocalGroup
    Thank for Help

Let's start with the fact that you are missing a key element in your task sequence. You need to have the step
Setup Windows and ConfigMgr to perform the transition from Windows PE to the new operating system. This task sequence step is a required part of any operating system deployment. It installs the Configuration Manager client into the new operating
system and prepares for the task sequence to continue execution in the new operating system. See also for more information:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846237.aspx#BKMK_SetupWindowsandConfigMgr
    About your screenshots:
With the first screenshot you not enabling the local administrator. Is that what you want?
With the second screenshot your only creating a user account and not adding it to the local administrators group. That would need an additional action like this
    cmd.exe /c net localgroup /add administrators User01.

  • Should I 'uninstall' old Firefox updates after installing Firefox 8?

I'm strictly a "button pusher" and have no clue to the 'how' a computer or its programs work. I had Firefox 1.0.6. 3.5.5, on up to 3.6.8 and I've just installed the latest Firefox 8. Am I supposed to get rid of the old versions or just leave them on the computer. I am assuming that I can't just 'delete' them but must uninstall them; is this correct or do I just leave them there?
    Thanks for any help offered.

If you've updated Firefox every time then the previous version has been replaced by the new updated version.<br />
If you only see entries of older Firefox versions in Add and Remove programs then that are leftover orphaned entries that haven't been removed by the Firefox updater, but the files of that older version are no longer present.

  • CS4 Extended Trial Version won't delete after installing CS4

I downloaded CS4 extended version trial. One day after using it I found CS4 for sale. I got the program and install it. When I loaded CS4 into the computer it asked me for the code. I entered the code from the case and it worked. I installed the program and restarted the computer. I loaded the program from the start programs. Once PS starts it shows CS4 Extended version loading. The program comes up and then it ask to enter the code or run it as a trial version. For some reason every time I run CS4 it runs the trial version. I uninstalled both programs and used the CS4 cleaner script. I installed CS4 from the CD again. Once I run the program again the trial version keeps coming up and asking the same thing.
Do I have to wait for the trial version to expire for me to be able to run the full CS4 version I installed?
Has anyone come accross this issue? I keep searching but I can't find anything.
    Help...Suggestions?
    Juan

Oh dear! You should have un-installed (not deleted) the trial first.
To avoid trouble later, do the following:
    1. Uninstall Photoshop CS4 from the Control Panel
    2. Run the  CS4 Clean Script.
    3. Manually remove any remaining Adobe folders.
    4. Run a registry cleaner
    Now re-install PS CS4.

  • OSX deleted after installing Windows 7 on bootcamp

I installed windows 7 (64-bit) on my mac using bootcamp.
The partition I set up was 220 GB for Snow Leopard and 80 GB for Window 7.
Somehow the Mac OS has been deleted, it is not available when I reboot using option key. However the partition is still in tact, there are 220 GB unused that I can't access.
I am trying to start over and reinstall Snow Leopard. I am ok with deleting windows 7 for the time being and repartitioning later.
Any suggestions about how to approach this? So far when I reboot with the Mountain Lion CD in the drive it only gives me the option to install the software within bootcamp, although when I select bootcamp it says " Mac OS X cannot start up from this disk".
    Thanks.

I have no idea what you are doing but there is no such thing as a Mountain Lion CD (or DVD)
    So what are you using?

The latest backup I did was in 2013!!! So I couldn't get back the new data of 2014

  • HT4718 How to recover old iPhoto pictures after installing OS X on my mac?!

I just upgraded to OX S so I could get icloud and now Iphoto doesnt work!!! If I upgrade to the new iphoto will all my old photos be deleted?!
I didn't back them up because I didn't know this was going to happen.... Can anyone help please?

If you are talking about the App Store, try clicking Account under the Quick Links section. Enter the old Apple ID and password.  Once you get to the Accounts page you can edit/change your Apple ID there.
    Update versus paid upgrade.

  • Why are Master Suite CS5 progrms not deleted after installing CS6?

Will it cause a problem if i just delete the CS5 Master Suite programs.  I do not have space for CS5 and CS6 versions of programs.

We had a thread on this actually previously in the forum although I am unable to locate it at the moment.  For many users they prefer to keep the older versions to help ensure compatibility.  For example InDesign CS5.5 is unable to open native InDesign CS6 documents.
This is part of the reason which we don't automatically prompt users to remove the software.  Also there can be a learning curve to using the new features/UI.  By allowing the user to choose to remove the software it can help ensure they are well versed and prepared to use the new version of the software in their creative endeavors.
Thank you for your input [email protected] though.  It is appreciated.  We could certainly look of at least providing an option that the user could opt into for removal.

  • StartAtLogin  can user change after install?

Looking to see if there is a way the user can change this
through the application itself, say through a user options setting
box. I see in the documentation it states "the user manually
changes the setting through the operating system" but have yet to
see an example of this anywhere. Basically I would like this value
    to be dynamic.

The user can change this through the application if you
provide the UI to do that as part of the application.
