I'm also still having this problem and have posted numerous times on this over the last few months and it still hasnt been fixed, the only way to get around it is to recreate your library which is a pain as when I have done this not only do you lose new playlists because my HD lost connection to my mac/preferences it decided to consolidate my library and transfer a large section to my Mac....not good! I now also have a problem were when I copy in new items to Music it either creates a playlist or I get a spinning wheel!
Im beyond bored of the new versions of iTunes and I'm thinking of moving to a more stable player as I waste numerous hours recreating library (which is a problem and waste of time) only for it to happen again!
Pointless.
I have also never seen a fix for this problem!

Nope. This is a common request, for some form of preview, typically as Outlook does it. Almost equally common are requests to have absolutely no preview whatsoever in case something nasty happens.
Many of us think the Message Pane below the thread list is perfectly adequate for a quick scan of message content.

Where can I get an older version of itunes for imac. A newer version seems to have disabled the old version and the library (is now created by a newer version" so I can't access the music via itunes at all. I have gone into HD/Library/Receipts and removed anything that has itunes in the title of a pkg as suggested in a previous discussion. I just want to get back to the old version!

I agree and it wassn't even me that updated! Perhaps apple should warn you that the update will seriously ruin your enjoyment if you click yes!
I was wondering if there was some way I could copy them to the ipad but the operating systems are so far apart that they don't seem to want to work together either. My ipad is not recognised as an ipad, but a camera. bluetooth will find the ipad but ipad won't find the imac!
There has just got to be some workaround.

IMac intel running 10.9.2 upgraded pages last week, now the machine tells me I need a new version of pages to open documents. Old version of pages is still in the dock, new version is in applications. How do I make this thing work? Thanks

This is frustrating, after going thru the process of updating last week and using pages successfully this machine now tells me the updated version is not the newest. So I went to the app store to buy the new version and it tells me the new version is already installed. Most likely the problem is because the old version is still in the dock. I would think that the upgrade would have taken care of that for me. So how do I get rid of the old version and make the new version my default? Step by step please as I am not Mac literate even thought I've had this machine for over 3 years, it's still a foreign country to me. Thanks SamO66

The icon in the Dock is nothing but an alias pointing to the actual application in the Applications/iWork folder.
Pulling it off the dock really does nothing. Particularly, as you will soon discover, it is the new Pages that is the problem.

It was here: C:\Windows\SysWOW64 - just deleted the exe and the dll.

Yes, the newest GarageBand can open the projects from GarageBand 6.0.5.
GarageBand 10.0.2 is very different from GarageBand 6.0.5, it is more like a light version of Logic. It brings new features like drummers and arpeggiators, but dropped other importaant features like podcasts or the sound effect instrument. So you will want to keep both versions installed.
When you upgrade to 10.0.2, the installer will move your current 6.0.5 to a subfolder of Applications. On no account delete it, until you are perfectly happy with the new version. I am still starting my projects in GarageBand 6.0.5, set everything up with the easy to use GB '11 interface, and then add the finishing touches, drummers etc., in GarageBand 10.0.
Note: GarageBand 10.0 is free, but it is not a full version; you will have to make an in-app purchase to get lessons, instruments, loops. With GB '11 still installed, this should be free. See this document: Expanding GarageBand for Mac (v10.0) content with an in-app purchase

Is there any way do force Mail to view an "older" message in the reading pane rather than the "newer" (unread) message upon deleting the current message being viewed in the reading pane? I have looked in preferences but can't find this feature (and I could make this change in Outlook! Grr.)

Unfortunately, I tried that. By reversing the order and selecting a message then deleting it, Mail still opens the "newer" message. It won't go "up" the ladder to an older message.

Since I'm no web expert, take my experienced reply for what it's worth:
I checked on my Safari, unchecking the "Tabs" "Preference" regarding commmand-clicking, and everything worked fine. Then I thought again about your situation, and it reminded me that on various websites, command-clicking brings up a new window (although, as you point out, control-clicking for the menu and selecting "New Tab..." does create a new tab). What that means is that certain websites must have an embedded command (java?) that opens it in a new window, overriding your Safari preference. In other words, it is a website issue, not a Safari issue (although perhaps Safari could be made to override the websites!). Hope this helps!

Seeking old version iTunes 6

I am the owner of a 3G iPod, and the software on my iPod is too old to connect to my current iTunes 7.7. The only way I can see to connect my iPod to my computer is to find an older version of iTunes, one that I hope will recognize the iPod's software. However, I am having trouble finding a site from which to download older versions of iTunes. OldApps.com gives me a .dmg file that my computer does not recognize and cannot mount; other Google searches have given me .exe files that my Mac cannot install. Does anyone know of a site where I could find a version of iTunes 6? Or have any other suggestions for allowing my computer to recognize my old iPod?

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

Help! I tried downloading version 10.6 off the website rather than through my current iTunes software. The first set up was not successful, 2nd attempt-chose repair. Now I just receive a warning everytime that the entry point cannot be found.

Full details:
When I click on any iTunes program link, I receive the following warning "The procedure entry point AVCF AssetCreateWithByteStreamAndOptions could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll."
I click ok and it tells me "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)." I tried reinstalling twice through a repair and this has not been successful. The only other option available is to remove the software off my computer than (I assume) start again. This makes me nervous as I fear I will lose all the songs and videos previously purchased.
I cannot find my original iPod which is why I purchased a new one today.
Grateful for any assistance or expertise!

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7,now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

ITunes appending genre in file rather than replacing

I'm going through the process of doing genre updates to mp3s via iTunes. I've noticed that in most cases (though for some reason not all) iTunes will append the new genre without replacing the old one. So for example, if I change a file from "Alternative & Punk" to "Punk", the genre is listed in the file as Alternative & Punk; Punk.
Any thoughts on how I can get a straight replace? Thanks in advance!

At a guess Windows Explorer is probably combining the details from id3v1 & id3v2 tags whereas iTunes is only showing info. from one set.

I uninstalled the old version Firefox then I tried to install the new one. But it asks me to restart my computer to completely uninstall the old version. I had tried to restart my computer for few times but i still cant install the new firefox version.

I cant install the new version. Everytime i tried to process the program it asks me restart my laptop.

Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).<br />
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
