You can likely download the last compatible version by:
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)

App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

How many computers can I load Elements onto? The FAQ's just say there may be problems if I load it onto "too many".

Did you set Internet Explorer as the default browser? If not the set it as the default. Check to see if you can do custom install

Any advice welcome.

To clear to old before passing it on, open the Settings app and tap on General (left hand menu). Scroll down and tap on settings, then tap on Erase All Content and Settings.
If you have been synching the iPad to iTunes on a computer, you should also have backed it up. If you havn't backed it, you will want to do so before clearing the settings and use the back up to set up your new iPad.

Thanks, Barbara. I don't use a trackpad on my iMac, just a mouse. However, I DID discover yesterday that if I press COMMAND-T (the command to Free Transform an image) I can then move the image where I want in the window. I need to use the command every time I move the image, which is annoying--in Mavericks, that Free Transform command was somehow the default.

Then your iTunes must be looking at the removable disc, not your hard drive. Did you actually copy the songs onto your computer, or simply tell iTunes to look at the removable drive?
Highlight a song and click on File/Get Info/Summary>Where and check the location that iTunes has listed for the song. What does it say?

Restart your iPod. Try downloading an app.

You can only install apps from the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app directly on the iPad. Does the maker of the CD have an app in the store with the CD contents already in it ?

If you do not get any kind of notification regarding having too many activations then there should not be a problem as far as the installation remaining on the Vista PC. If the application does not run at all then you might to try installing by download instead of using the disc.

Old computer crashed, loaded iTunes onto new one, need to get (re) started

I lost my old computer (disk crash). I've restored the old iTunes library (plus more) onto my new windows desktop (from a Maxtor backup).
How do I now initialize my iPod photo (30Gb) on the new computer? It is not registered to this new computer. Do I use the original CDs that came with my iPod 2 years ago?
I want to wipe the iPod clean and synch only selected stuff, as I have ~33Gb in my new iTunes library. How do I select smartly when I have 8000 files?

You don't need to do anymore than connect the iPod, if you are updating automatically it will connect and sync with the new library.

If you want to erase it and start from scratch then restore it with the iPod Updater. This will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings
If you want an alternative to aoto-syncing the whole library then you can choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only". Using this option you could create a playlist specifically for your iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library. You can read more about playlists at these links:
