Old Web Server Software on Mac OS X Server 10.4.6?

I am wondering why my apache that is running is only 1.3.33 accordign to my webmin tool that my friend installed, the php and sql are old too.
I'm not a unix guru by any means and I want to upgrade these and enable GD etc, but I'm running 4 or more virtual servers by using the server tools and I don't want to break the builtin functionality of the server tools. Is apple going to upgrade this stuff on os x server?

Mac OS X Server ships with both Apache 1.3.33 and Apache 2.2 (in /opt/apache2).
You're more than welcome to disable Apache 1.3.x and use 2.2 if you prefer.
However, the Server Admin GUI will only currently work with Apache 1.3.x, so if you do you'll need to manage your configurations manually.

  • What's the best FTP server software for Mac OS X Server?

What's the best FTP server software for Mac OS X Server?
We have looked at a few different applications out there (Rumpus, CrushFTP, etc...) and are wondering what the community feels.
Apples built -in isn't robust enough. We do need some advanced features (reporting, SFTP, a web interface would be nice etc...).
    Opinions?

    Hi
For me it has to be RumpusFTP Server:
    http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/
It has a secure web interface - no need to open ports 20, 21. No need for dedicated FTP client software for uploading and downloading. Supports the most commonly used browsers. Multi-platform support and can be installed on a standard client OS.

  • Web design software for Mac?

What is the best/easiest web design software for OSX Panther -- freeware/shareware or retail? I have a simple site I update once in a while (currently using an ancient copy of AOLPress on my old G3), so I don't need anything elaborate.
    Thanks very much --
    Christine

iWeb is probably the best easy-to-use, very simple, good looking and W3 validated code producing  application out there.
It does allow you to export your data and upload via FTP, yet Apple is definitely trying to sell a few more .Mac memberships.
NVU is quite good for more complex websites.
If you're looking for a very efficient way of administrating your website, adding new content and all kinds of features, check out Joomla, a Content Management System . You do however need a server that supports php and MySQL.

  • Photo Gallery Software for Mac OS X Server

I'm porting my Linux server infrastructure over to Mac OS X Server. I've successfully moved over my DNS, Mail and most of my web sites to Mac without a problem. However, the last website is causing me a bit of pain. In Linux I was using Gallery 2 (http://gallery.menalto.com/), but I'm not sure how to get this to work on Mac OS X. In particular there are a bunch of dependencies that I'm not sure exist in Mac (ffmpeg, etc.)
    * Is there an alternative photo gallery software that people use which may install/work better on the Mac? We have wiki and blog services in the Web Server Admin pane, but I don't see a photo gallery service.
    * Has anybody had success in using gallery2 over to the Mac? What dependencies were needed and how did you find them?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Which blog software on Mac OS X server?

Which blog software would you recommend to use on Mac OS X server to add content using an iOS device?

I've been using Drupal for an eon or two, using Safari on OS X and iOS.  Haven't used a dedicated iOS client.
Pick a couple of the available content management system (CMS) options, and test them, and see what works for you.  Drupal and Wordpress both have hosted blogs available, and — given you're going to have to do this if you're hosting the CMS yourself — download and try them, and see how they work.
Here is one of two articles I posted on this a while back.  That article includes links to various resources including a matrix of CMS packages, and links over to the other write-up.

  • Mac Server Training for Mac OS X Server Essentials Exam

I am thinking of sitting this exam and was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent book. Which book do they use for the course? I looked for the Peachpit book but couldn't find it.
    Thanks.

If you click on the Peachpit Press page here:
    http://www.apple.com/software/pro/training/self_paced.html
You'll see the book you are looking for. This book is very similar to the one used in the class, and is a great way to prepare for the exam.
Also, I was impressed with the Mac OS X Server module offered by http://www.lynda.com/
    Hope that helps,

  • RIP Server software for MAC anyone knows?

Hello friends! anyone knows any Print Server RIP software for a MAC?

    Hi
To drive what exactly? Plotter, Image/platesetter? Would your query include dedicated RIP workflows from Dainippon, Creo etc? Something that used to be available is Harlequin which is now:
    http://www.xitron.com/Navproduct.htm
Googling Viper still returns a result. Not sure if its Leopard compatible? You could try this yourself? Its not absolutely necessary for it to be on an Intel/Leopard workstation. PPDs for Linotype Herkules variant RIPS etc are still out there and working. There are some sites I know that still maintain older macs (some of them beige G3s) to run Legacy RIP Software.
There's no reason for whatever you decide on to go on a server platform. Most of the ones of my experience work equally as well on OS Client.

  • How do I install Mac OS X-Server on my Intel Base-Dell XPS? What's I need to have for this installation?

I have Dell XPS with Quad core Intel CPU, 4 GB RAM and 500GB HDD + 500GB RAID. I really want to install Mac OS X Server on it but I can not find where to buy OS X Server and I'm not sure that it suitable to my XPS, I'm afraid that is not acceptable to install. Anyone have idea about this please give me some information, thank you.

    Hello Benz_KU,
I am afraid you won't be able to install Mac OS X server on you Dell computer. There are technical reasons for that as well as legal reasons: according to the "Software License Agreement for Mac OS X Server":
"This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Mac OS X Server software (the “Mac OS X Server Software”) on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time."
    Best regards

  • What anti-virus server software is available?

I've got OS X Server 10.4.8 running, with clamav doing its thing, and quite well. However, I was wondering what third party AV software is available to be the primary scanner?
The reason is that while blocking infected mail has been good, I'd like a system that will intercept and clean files (normally macro virus stuff) and pass them along to the recipient.
Currently users are trying to email files, and when they get blocked they iChat them instead, spreading the infection.
I couldn't find any server software on Symantec or McAfee's sites.

    Hello,
Symantec recommends that you use the same Symantec AV software for clients and servers. They do not have any specific AV software for Mac OS X Server. http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/products/overview.jsp?pcid=1008&pvid=825_1
Intego has Virus Barrier Server and Virus Barrier Mail Gateway for file and mail servers respectively (released Sept. 2006). Located at http://www.intego.com/vbserver/
Sophos has Sophos Anti Virus available. http://www.sophos.com/products/es/endpoint/sav-mac.html Like Symantec it is the same software for client and server.
McAfee also only has one solution for clients and servers. http://www.mcafee.com/us/enterprise/products/antivirus/file_serversdesktops/virex.html
Intego's products are fairly recent September 2006 so I don't know how much experience there is with their products out there.
Hope that gives you a brief overview of the products available.
As for your current issue, you can take four approaches (although I am sure there are more).
    1. AV software on the clients stopping macro viruses on the desktops
    2. AV software on a file server and use network home directories (also stopping viruses at the client level)
    3. Intego's Virus Barrier Mail Gateway on your mail gateway
    4. Network appliance based Anti-Virus gateway and route mail through it

  • IP Forwarding on a Mac OS X Server

    Hi!
I'm really a newbie with Mac OS X Server...
I got this new X Server with the Mac OS X server O.S.
I have the DNS, NAT and firewall running.
My LAN have a private IP like the 192.168.1.x
Now, i'd like to setup a web server in my LAN, but i want it accessible from outside.
I tried NATural, but it's seems nothing happens...
Please, can you tell me (in detail) what I've to do for having it working?
    Thanks to u all!
    Marco

    well... i did some tests...
Now, from outside is possible to reach my internal webserver.
If i put my public ip in my browser (inside the LAN) i cannot reach the webserver...
Do you think it's something to set in my firewall or is it okay?
Also... for doing that, i used the unique public ip on my xserve.
There's a way to assign a secondary public IP to redirect to my local webserver?
I cannot do this on my router, so i hope it could be possible with the xserve.
    Thanks again!

  • Authenticating to Mac OS X Server Mail Server - Not WOrking

    Hi,
I have setup my smtp server (on a mac os x server) to accept authenticated smtp sessions from outside its network...
    smtpdpw_server_securityoptions = cram-md5,login,gssapi
    smtpdrecipientrestrictions = permitsasl_authenticated,permit_mynetworks,reject_unauthdestination,permit
However, my iPhone will not connect to the server when away from home, smtp log shows just...
    Nov 19 08:18:55 mailgate postfix/smtpd[36658]: connect from mobileweb03.london.02.net[193.113.235.169]
Nov 19 08:18:57 mailgate postfix/smtpd[36658]: lost connection after HELO from mobileweb03.london.02.net[193.113.235.169]
    Nov 19 08:18:57 mailgate postfix/smtpd[36658]: disconnect from mobileweb03.london.02.net[193.113.235.169]
Has anybody successfully made the iPhone work with the Mac SMTP server?
    Thx!

i have no problem connecting to the IMAP server, this issue is sending outgoing mail via the smtp server. As I am outside of the permitted network I have setup authentication, this does not seem to be working. Message from smtp server logfile states the iPhone is ending the connection after the HELO request.

  • Mac os X Server Universal Binary install upgrade possible ?

Has anyone attempted the following upgrade pattern with the new mac pros with mac os X Universal Binary build ?
Take your PowerPC mac os X server build to an external hard drive (Carbon Copy clonning or via SuperDuper). Tie in the external hard drive to the Mac Pro . Upgrade the Mac os X server install via the DVD install for mac os X server coming with the mac pro . CCC it back to the mac pro ... watch the fireworks ?
I am still in waiting the machine but there are loads of data i would like to transfer from our my present mac os X server quad setup to the upcoming MacPro and doing this manipulation might make the transition soooo much easier than having to transport everything ...
I hope there are no other already started threads concerning this procedure but if such would be the case i apologize for the inconvinience caused and would be glad if reffering threads would be posted here ...
    G5 Quad 2.5 7TB xraid 16GB of ram.   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Mac os X server 10.4.7

From the looks of it the upgrade from Mac os X server PPC to Mac os X server Universal Binary is not possible from install disk .... i backed up a whole PPC drive loaded my Mac os X Server UB in the machine and booted off the CD on a MBP ... and the installer just wont take the PPC build as upgradable .. once again apple leaves us in the middle of the transition ... WHY ???? For those of us getting mac pros to run mac os x server applications this would be a great benefit to all parties involved and help solve the many dog heared problems we have faced all along in 10.4.
Edit: Same thing from a PPC standpoint a PPC build wont upgade to a Universal Binary build at all as it seems ... i am calling Apple support and hope to get further information to share ... wish me luck
I dare hope leopard behaves better than 10.4 has been especially on the server side which broke many functions that 10.3 got right pretty quickly and neatly .

My Clients are Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2, my Server is a Mac Mini Lion Server.

    Hi Tim,
No fix yet, my home folders reside on a thunderbolt external hard drive, I also tested having home folders on default server HD and no changes, I called Apple Support a while ago, they replicated the issue, it just does not work on network users, they did not say when will it be fix.
The version of Pages I am using is from the Apple Store.
