Old Windows XP not recognizing my iPod nano?
I've tried to connect my iPod to my desktop but nothing at all happens. When I connect to my laptop (which hasn't been reformatted like my desktop) the iPod fires up. All my music is on my desktop so I need to figure this out. I DLed SP2 but still no avile. What could be wrong?

Windows XP stops recognizing the iPod Nano
hi
I bought my Nano in Dec 2006. Assuming it is 2nd generation. Not sure how to verify. Until now I was able to copy files from Real Player to my Nano.
Now the Nano battery charges when I connect the USB cable to the Windows XP Pro system but Real and iTunes is not able to "see" my Nano I have an unhappy child at my place
What should I do? If I have to reinstall, what should I reinstall and how can I reinstall anything when the PC doesn't see the Nano device at all?
I tried connecting the Nano to my friend's system with his working cable, still his PC also doesn't "see" my Nano.
The Nano operates normally (i.e. we can listen to the songs)
Any pointers is appreciated.

I had this same problem. I was reading another discussion that had this problem as well and they suggested unplugging your printer. I have a Lexmark printer connected through USB. I unplugged the printer and my ipod has worked like a charm. Strange! -
Windows 8.1 is not recognizing my IPOD Nano
When I plug in my Ipod Nano 4th gen to my laptop, it does not recognize it. ITunes never really worked either. Is it because I have Windows 8.1?
I have the same problem with a nano 7th gen, and windows 8.1 It was working fine a few days ago. As of today, if I connect the nano to my PC with itunes already launched the nano appears in the computer's file explorer window momentarily then disappears. If I connect the nano before launching itunes, the nano appears in the file explorer the file explorer window until I launch itunes then the nano immediately disappears.
I tried all the suggestions in the helpful screen that appeared when itunes cheerfully reported the failure to connect, including: updating itunes, removing and reinstalling itunes, resetting the nano, closing all the windows, rebooting the computer, changing cables. After several hours of trying combinations of procedures to work through the problem, I made an appointment and took the offending computer and elusive nano to the Genius Bar in Palo Alto. After two more hours of efforts on the part of a couple more gentle geniuses, Apple reported confidently that cause is because windows 8.1 is no longer compatible with itunes. (Note, the nano still worked fine with an Apple laptop at the store.)
The nice people at Apple were very apologetic and offered a refund for the nano, which offer I reluctantly accepted. Apple cheerfully refunded full purchase price on the spot. It was a sad moment for me hand over my nano as I really liked it very much, aside from the minor fact that it no longer works.
The solution would appear to be simple: don't buy a PC with windows 8.1, and don't install windows 8.1 on your computer if you wish to use a nano. Don't buy the nano 7th gen if you have windows 8.1 or wish to buy a computer with windows 8.1. And if you find yourself in this situation, simply return the nano or the computer; Apple seems happy to provide a refund. I'm not so sure how well you will fare with the PC people. -

Windows 8 not recognizing my ipod
I got a new computer in December and since then, I have been unable to get the computer to recognize my iPod. It's an older model. White with click wheel, 30GB. I can't reset it using iTunes because the computer won't even recognize it. It's not even charging when connected to the computer. I've gone through the 5 steps, but the problem isn't with any of those. The iPod works, iTunes works. Windows 8 is the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.

Windows is not recognizing the ipod
I plugged my Ipod into a friends computer to charge. After which the Ipod gave me the "Do not Disconnect" sign for about an hour. Now, when I plug the ipod back into my computer it does not recognize the Ipod. I have a feeling that it needs to be restored but that cannot happen until the Ipod is recognized as there by the computer. I've tried setting it to disk mode, with no result.
My friend has a video ipod with the latest update software (if that matters) and we are both running Windows XP.
Thanks in advance for your help.See these.

my mac doesnt recognize my ipod nano G4, its always worked before. read the trouble shoots, checked all connections. it needs to charge and wont do it.
Try the suggestions in article - iPod not recognized in iTunes and Mac desktop. If the suggestions do not work, more than likely you need a new battery. Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

Windows does not recognize my ipod nano 7 gen
Windows 7 doesn't recognize ipod touch.
First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.
Putting iPod into disk mode.
Still no joy, see if any of these articles help.

ITunes not recognizing my iPod nano 3rd gen!
I have connected my ipod (3rd gen) to my macbook but itunes is not recognizing it. I have read several forums (including here) and tried some trouble shooting steps. My iTunes software is up to date. iTunes opens when i connect the ipod and it shows up in finder under "no name". It worked fine last month on an imac w/ no problems. Any ideas? Thanks
If you have not already, disconnect the iPod and restart your Mac. Do this to Reset the iPod.

Once the Mac restarts, run iTunes and connect the iPod.
If that does not help, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

then, connect it to the Mac running iTunes. It's possible that iTunes will tell you that you need to Restore the iPod. -
ITunes & Windows XP not recognizing my iPod
I have a 3rd Gen. click wheel iPod and have been using it without problems until today. I recently got a 2nd Gen. shuffle and loaded songs onto it with no problems either. I just tried to update my iPod and iTunes and Windows XP won't recognize my iPod. It charges though. I tried restarting my computer, updating iTunes, changing USB ports, and reseting my iPod. My shuffle works fine and my computer and iTunes recognize it. Is there anything I have to do so my computer and iTunes recognize my iPod since I recently used my shuffle?

New Laptop with Windows 7 not recognizing my iPod
I have iTunes loaded (I used a USB transfer) and now I'm trying to charge/update my iPod, but when I connect it to the laptop nothing happens. I've rebooted. I've put the iPod in disk mode. I've tried all three USB ports on the laptop. Nothing. The cable works because when I plug it in with the iPod to a regular outlet, it starts charging. My previous computer had Windows XP. I've been searching online for about an hour without any solutions to this problem. I have the lastes iTunes update loaded (9.0.2.25)
Problem Solved! Posting in case someone else has same issue. It was so easy once I found the right solution. I uninstalled all the USB controllers, then rebooted the computer. When it came back up, it reinstalled all the USB controllers. When it was done, I plugged in the iPod and TADA...it began to sync, iTunes came up, and my iPod was recognized. Hallelujah!

Window doesnt recognized my ipod nano
Window doesn't recognized my ipod nano, and i cannot turn my nano on,,Is there any way to fix it??
I had the same problem, but finally I managed to make it work. This is how I did it:
First of all reset the Ipod (you know, press Menu and Select at the same time for a few seconds). Then, just after the reset, when you see the apple, press Select and Play at the same time. Now you should see "Disk mode" or something like that on your screen. Now you can plug it to your PC and try to update/restore the system.
Before I restored it, I copied my music to the PC. After that, I restored without a problem.
Hope it works for you!
