Older document versions disappeared

I've been keeping a diary in numbers of my diet, and yes, I've been saving it after every entry. We had a power outage yesterday, and the document I've been working with seems to have reverted to the version I first loaded a week ago (created in excel).
Is there directory somewhere in this machine where previously saved versions are stored? I tried a search in 'finder', and the original version (on my desktop) didn't even show up.

(1) I don't understand why you ask about a document originated in Excel in a forum dedicated to Pages !
(2) As I don't know what is wrong in your message, I will respond assuming that the original document was matching the forum object.
If you opened the document
wxyz.pages
stored in the folder
the/folder/in/which/I/save/my/documents
Each time you will save it, the new document will replace the original file in the original folder.
If you opened the document
wxyz.doc
stored in the folder
the/folder/in/which/I/save/my/documents
When you tried to save using cmd + S you were urged to define the location where you wanted to save the document in the Pages format.
You may know the answer, we can't guess it.
I don't know the way you used Spotlight to search your file.
If you searched for wxyz.doc, it's logical that you found only the original file.
Try to search for wxyz.pages
You may also look in the Finder's Recent Items menu.
If you have a good memory and remember a sentence embedded in the document, you may use a tool designed to search in the file's contents without a prebuilt index (easyFind is such a tool) you may use it but, this proposal assume that you aren't using the file format introduced by iWork '09.
(4) If you were really asking about a Numbers document (which is perfectly odd in a Pages forum), replace pages by numbers and .doc by .xls in what I wrote above.
And of course, next time take care to what is written on the door before pushing it to enter.

Best is to Export to Word .doc files, just about all of the many versions of Pages can open those.

  • If I upgrade Pages 08 to the current version will I lose my ability to open older documents

I am wanting to upgrade my current Pages 08 to the newest version. Will I lose the capability to view older documents that were created in Pages 08?

Yes, Pages 5.x can't open Pages 08 documents. You can have both Pages 08 and Pages 5 on the same computer.  If you really need to open the document in Pages 5 you can first export it to Word and then open it in Pages 5. Some formatting will probably be lost though.

  • Adobe Reader for Windows Phone cannot open older PDF versions?

I've found that Adobe Reader for Windows Phone displays the following error when I try to open certain PDF documents: "There was an error opening the document".
After doing some limited testing I found that it can successfully open PDF documents which were saved as "PDF version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)", but the error appears when it tries to open documents saved as the older format "PDF version: 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x)". (I am checking the filetype version by opening the documents in Adobe Reader X on my PC and looking at the document properties).
My phone is a HTC 7 Mozart running Windows Phone 7.5. I noticed the problem when I was using the SkyDrive app to try and look at some PDF files I have saved in SkyDrive. SkyDrive downloads the file and then passes it to the Adobe Reader app to view. It works when I look at a newer version 1.5 PDF but not the older v1.3 type. Unfortunately my HP Photosmart 5510 scanner outputs scans as PDF files and only in the older file version.
I've tried reinstalling the SkyDrive app and the Adobe Reader app on my phone. (The Adobe Reader app is version 10.1.1, build 20120919).
Is this a known limitation, or is this a bug?
If this is a limitation that won't be fixed - is there an easy way I can convert my files to the newer file type? (Adobe Reader X on my PC doesn't seem to offer a way to convert existing files)
    Thanks!

  • My document has disappeared despite me saving it.

My document has disappeared. Saved it yet cannot find it anywhere. Help!

Well, you've told us next to nothing (e.g., what application you were running, what version of OS X you are running, whether you closed the app when you saved the document, etc.).
With this very limited information, I would suggest trying Spotlight (magnifying glass in upper right corner of screen).  Type in the name of the document and see what turns up.

You could use Microsoft Office for Mac, but I would recommend iWork! It's a better set of applications for a much better price. I have used both and I prefer it over Office. And Pages can not only open Word documents, you can also save documents in Word format. My brother and I both used iWork as an Office substitute when we were in college (I graduated a few years ago and he just graduated last night) and haven't had any compatibility issues. Check it out here http://www.apple.com/iwork/

  • Older saved version of PDF in Adobe reader

How do I open an older saved version of a pdf in adobe reader. I do not have a 'revert' option.

    Look at your backups.

  • Opening older documents text layers are confused

When opening older documents, why does PS CS6 mess up my text layers when I select them?
I open the .psd from CS5 in a file with many text layers, the text is correct when opeinging the file but when i click on it to edit it, data from another layer replaces the selected text!
This is very frustrating, hours of work will be waisted getting things back normal!

We still need to verify whether Photoshop is correctly updated to 13.0.1, go to help>System info and paste the content here.
What I do not get is when you state that CS5 does it, I do not recall it ever hitting that version.
Could you post about your issue, if it still happens under 13.0.1 in this discussion: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018589

  • Pages Update can't open older document

Last week I updated Pages on my iPad, I am now only able to open documents that were created after the update.  When I select older documents, a window pops up and says "Document can't be imported.  The file format is invalid."

Try this. It worked for me.
I discovered the same problem.  I had an older version of Pages on my iPad. After updating it to the latest version all my previous documents created in pages for the iPad were rendered unreadable and a message stated that they were an invalid format.  Why for the life of me would a program that was created by Apple and sense updated not be able to read previous versions...well that's a whole other sad story.  Any way I discovered how to fix it but it would require that you had backup your iPad on a computer and not emptied your trash. If this sounds good than here is how you fix it... And it worked for me.
These steps will enable you to reinstall a previous version of the Pages app so you can be able to read and edit older documents.
FIRST: if you did backup your iPad using your computer and did not empty your trash, GOTO the trash and look for PAGES 1.4 (or other number) ipa ( that's the file extension) ie PAGES 1.4 ipa.
SECOND: move that file out of the trash and onto your desktop.  Once you do this, double click on it and a box will come up stating a newer version has been found and do you want to revert back to older version. ANSWER YES. It will than automatically place and overwrite the older version back into the file on iTunes that contains the rest of your backed up apps.
THIRD: and this is where it is important that your backup would have to have been on your computer. I'm not sure if backup on the cloud will work.  iCloud backup at your own risk And here's why. Before you restore you will need to remove the latest version of Pages off your iPad by doing the usual : holding down the home button until the apps wiggle and remove by pressing on X on app.  Removing off your iPad will also delete all your documents but if you have a previous backup on your computer those documents will be stored safely on itunes and will return.
FORTH: plug your iPad into your computer and allow it to sync so iTunes will recognize it. Once iTunes is up and you can see that it recognizes your iPad, GOTO "FILE/DEVICES/RESTORE FROM BACKUP."  ******* DO NOT CLICK ON BACKUP***** click on RESTORE FROM BACKUP. This will reinstall all previous settings and documents that were their when you backuped PLUS the older version of Pages that you placed back from the above steps. Let it run through all the setups ( this could take up to 20 minutes...depending on amount of data and photos and apps).
FIFTH: Once everything is reinstalled a message will popup on your computer stating "to leave iPad plugged in until iTunes recognizes it again" ( it's basically rebooting itself).  Once done (leave iPad plugged in still) GOTO iPad and follow the steps. IMPORTANT:  iPad will ask you if you want to SET IT UP AS A NEW IPAD, BACK UP FROM THE CLOUD or BACK UP FROM ITUNES.....press SET UP AS NEW IPAD. Follow all of the steps required. Once complete GOTO iTunes on computer, look for "IPAD" plus a little arrow ( should be on upper right corner of iTunes window, click on it ( this will safely disconnect your iPad from iTunes) . Now unplug iPad from computer and go to your iPad and look for the older version of Pages. It should be there along with all your old documents ( readable and editable too).
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

    Hi Ernestprinter,
Check if you have multiple Java versions installed on your computer.
    Try clean boot http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Also i would suggest uninstall security software and install it back.
Currently you may use F9 key to restore Menu bar.

  • Is there a way to comment on specific Document Version?

I have high hopes for document versioning.  However, I can't find much information on the details.  I'd like to understand how it works a little bit better. I have lots of questions.  But the first thing that came to my attention is that to be really useful, I would need to make comments for a specific version.  If I make a fundimental change in the document, I'd like to be able to make a comment about that version.  Otherwise, I have to visually inspect the documents to see what version I need to restore.  When working with very complex documents, it is very hard to visually inspect for that meaningful change.
Also, I would really like to read up on how versions work and documents behave.  For instance, what is the significance of moving the file or copying the file.  When does the versioning remain intact and when will it be left behind.  I'd really appriciate if somebody could point me to any documentation or in depth review of the document versioning feature in Mountain Lion.
    Thanks,

Apple hasn't posted much besides this: OS X Lion: About Auto Save and Versions.
There are some independent reviews such as: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion: the Ars Technica review.  Scroll down to the contents for the section on Document revisions.
Bottom line -- because it only saves the previous contents of changed "chunks," you can't alter an existing Version; just make a new one.
Note that the actual file contains only the current contents; all the versions info is in a hidden, protected database.  So when you move, copy, back-up, or send a file, only the current version goes with it.

  • Where are the older BIOS versions gone?

    Hi
A few weeks back, I've upgraded the BIOS on my Pavilion G6 1001sq to the latest version (F66). I noticed that the laptop is running considearbly hotter since then and I want to revert to an older BIOS version. When I go to the updates page on the HP website and click on "older versions available" I can only see the F66 version on the page I'm directed to ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/previousVersions?softwareitem=ob-115746-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4... ), although a long list with many versions was available till recently. Where are the older versions gone?

Unfortunately, I do not know where they have gone. HP is working on issues with the suport and driver servers at the moment.
Since your notebook does have the UEFI Diagnostics installed, you should be able to rollback to the previous version that was installed. Use the firmware management option to do that.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 not recognizing Sony HDV Deck on older 2008 version MacPro's

I am trying to connect a Sony HDV deck to Final Cut Pro version 7 on an older 2008 version MacPro.  The problem was with the firewire mini port on the back i believe because i used a different deck which was the same model - but the only difference was it had a firewire 400 port instead of mini firewire port.  Anyway, the deck with the 400 firewire port worked for logging and capturing, etc... (this also worked when i re-tested it on the 2008 MacPro)  Im wondering if anyone else has had problems with the firewire mini port on the Sony HDV deck because it seems like almost every HDV deck i have with mini firewire has problems connecting to final cut pro or any editing application.  I know now that the deck i had in question the mini port is not working correctly but is there a way to fix this or prevent the cable - deck from terminating the connection with the mini cable being used.  I dont need an answer to the deck problem because i figured it out but just wondering if anyone has some insight on this deck problem.  Thank you...
    Kyle

    >I dont need an answer to the deck problem ... just wondering if anyone has some insight on this deck problem
So you don't want an answer, just insight. OK, I'll give it a go.  I've had several Sony VTRs with the 4pin Firewire port (proper name for what you refer to as "mini"), which is the same type of port that most DV and HDV cameras use as well.  One of the main things you need to be wary of is plugging in and unplugging a Firewire cable while either the device or the computer is powered on.  I know that marketing hype claims that Firewire is hot swap-able, but it really isn't safe to do so.  The pins in both the 4 pin connector as well as the 6 pin connectors are very close together and if they aren't aligned exactly right with the socket, can easily cause arching and damage a Firewire port on either or both ends.  Is that the kind of insight you were looking for?
