Older intel mac display problems (x1600)

My mom has an intel imac (the version before the black/aluminum kind) and it had very minor display issues with Tiger (very infrequent horizontal lines). They were all resolved with further point releases of Tiger.
After upgrading to Leopard she has had numerous problems, all revolving around frequent and numerous horizontal lines. They sometimes get so bad that the current window is almost completely obscured.
Here is a flickr set of images that show the problem and the display specs. I know that was happening to users with newer imacs and x1900s, is this happening to other x1600 users?
Any ideas on what is going on? I told her to call apple, but her warranty has run out and she feels uncomfortable calling because she is not a technical person (exactly why I told her to get a mac—I have egg on my face now). Should she downgrade? Can this be a hardware problem?

Hi everyone, i have bought an iMac 20 with a core 2 duo 1 GB ram and an ATI x1600 (a white one, because the screen quality is better than the new iMac 20 alu)
and i've some display problems. First i was on Tiger and i didn't noticed any problems but as leopard came out i rapidly upgraded to it and then came problems with the display.
To make short, the lower part of my screen is lagging anormaly. When i drag a window or even the dock's animations are slower. And it doesn't occur on the upper part of my screen, windows can be dragged smoothly, there is no lag even if the CPU is working at 100% (like on every normal mac...).
I've noticed there is a little bump when i'm dragging a windows from the top to the bottom of the screen, it's like the window enter another area.
I've of course checked a lot of boards on the www, so i've tried a lot of things, my card ATI X1600 128mo PCIe is fully working with core image and quartz extreme.
Some people said to wait that spotlight finished to index, but it's done and the problems are still there.
Time machine is off
I don't use coverflow and i've tried it, it doesn't change anything.
I've also re-installed Tiger and, wo-ow the problem is still there, especially when all is up to date.
It seems that, the problem come from the last firmware update, i don't know if this firmware update was done for improving compatibility with bootcamp or leopard but for me it has added this strange display behavior.
I've also tried to turn off quartz extreme, and it's even worst, worst on the lower part again but no changes on the upper, everything run smoothly.
As i didn't noticed it when i used my mac for the first days (on Tiger and without the firmware update) and on windows with bootcamp there is still no display problems at all, i keep thinking it's not an hardware problem but a software (firmware, display on Mac osX) problem.
It should be solved by a new firmware or Mac os upgrade until then i have to do with it.
By the way, does anyone knows if there's a way for downgrading the gpu firmware ? (when i try, it say that i didn't need it), it's the only thing that i havent tried.
Thanks in advance, and i beg your pardon for my pittyfull frenglish :s

  • Intel Mac Install Problems

Is anyone else out there running a new Intel Mac with 10.4.8?
The problem comes when I go to install CF MX 7.2. I tried all the
configurations possible for developer (stand alone, with JRun, on
top of J2EE) and it just won't install right. It gets to the part
where it says 'it installed okay first part, but to finish the
install check firewall ports, etc. and make sure CF is running.'
Anyway, I can never get CF to run. It tries to, and can't. The
annoying part is I have to manually uninstall the crap too each
time, as the 'uninstaller' gets so far and asks me for my admin
password (not the CF admin password, RDS password, but the actual
admin pass for my account). I enter it and it keeps telling me it
is wrong. So you can't unistall with the unistaller. Funny thing
though is when I go to just trash the whole app manually the system
asks for my admin pass and it takes it just fine.
So, my main question is: Has anyone gotten CF MX 7.2 to
successfully install and run on an Intel Mac? Or will it only work
on an older PowerPC? (All my other Macromedia/Adobe stuff is
running just fine since I upgraded from the PowerPC. It was a
little slow at first, but I threw a bunch of ram at it. I cannot
get CF to install at all though...)
Anyone with advice or insight please respond...
    Thanks.

  • Mac Display problems

    Hi,
We are creating an app and having some display problems that
only seems to be affecting OSX browsers. We have a custom component
that is based on a canvas. We dynamically add several of these
components to other display components at runtime ( through
actionscript by calling addChild usually ). Everything displays
fine on Windows browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari) but when loading it
in firefox or safari on osx, all we see is a blank space where the
component should be visible. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I'm not sure that I can send a link, corporate web app and
    all...
but it's very puzzling, I don't believe it is due to render
times, reports say it just never displays. I might have to try and
track down a mac development machine for a few days of testing as I
don't have a mac locally and makes it a real pain in the neck to
debug since I don't even know what I'm looking for. I thought I
would post here and see if anyone else has ever encountered
    anything even remotely similar.
    Thanks

  • Intel Macs & G5s: Problems when moving projects between them

An earlier post* suggesting complete compatibility between the latest FCP in a G5 and in an Intel Mac may be in error.
We are experiencing continuing crashes using our Intel Mac when we work on projects that were originally either imported or partially rendered in the G5.
It has gotten to the point where we feel we must keep projects completely isolated from each other: Either it is a "G5 project" or it is an "Intel Mac" project. Moving projects back and forth between the two leads to problems such as:
The Intel Mac does not recognize any renders done in the G5...
The Intel Mac crashes when rendering 'G5' projects...
The Intel mac crashes when compressor goes to work to export sequences to mpeg...
The G5 works fine with Intel Mac-originated material: It is only in the Intel Mac where we have these problems.
Both systems are up-to-the minute on their OS, security updates, and FCP versions. We are using variously 720p/30 from the JVC GY-100UA and 1080i/30 from the Sony Z1U.
    Our questions are:
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems moving projects between a G5 and an Intel Mac?
Is anyone moving projects between the two platforms and experiencing NO problems at all? That information would be just as valuable, and very welcome.
Apple FCP development team: Is our experience unique or have you had other reports like this? Any idea what could be causing our problems -- and what we can do to fix them?

    Scott,
    Welcome to the discussions!
I have had no problems moving my G5 projects over to my MP.
You can not move render files between machines.
When you changed systems, did you use Migration Assistant to transfer your files over to your new Mac Pro? You might need to install from the disks in order to achieve native Intel performance. See if you installed Final Cut 5.1 on your G5 then it installed the PPC code... if you put that drive into your Mac Pro or used Migration Assistant to move the app over it is still the PPC code... When you install from the installation disk, Installer determines what system you are installing on (PPC or Intel) and that's what it installs. This goes for all of your "Universal Binary" apps...
In the System Profiler app. under Software/Applications
Final Cut Pro "kind" should be Universal on your MP.
The FCP development team do not read these posts, only users do.

  • Intel Imac display problems

I have an old intel imac (17 inch white screen) bought just over 5 years ago.  The imac has just 'died', the screen will not display anything.  It will chime on starting up and I can hear activity but nothing displays on the screen.
I returned it to my local Apple store, upon investigation they said the graphics card had gone (£500 to replace) so I bought a brand new iMac a few days ago.
All of my data is backed to up an external hard drive.
I run a database programme on the old iMac called 4D, which has a huge amount of data stored in it (all backed up).
I have installed the most current version of 4D on my new Imac, but it will not open the data on my back-up (error message: data cannot be published).
I have installed my old original version of 4D from my original bought CDs, but again it will not read the data.
The guy in the Apple shop gave me instructions on how to link my old 'dead' iMac, to my MacBook Pro via a Firewire cable, and using Target Disc Mode, I should be able to access the dead iMac hard drive on my MacBook ... have just tried this and the dead iMac hard drive will not show up on my MacBook.  It does not appear on the desktop as suggested by the guy in the Apple shop, nor does it show up in System Preferences > Start Up Disk as an alternative disc to boot from.
What I need to do is access the 4D database on the dead imac, so that I can export the data as a text file, to put into a new application on my new iMac.
Althought the data is backed up to the external hard drive, it is backed up 'in the database' ...  and I need to EXPORT the data, which I cannot do unless I can open the database ... which I can't !
I'm going round in circles with this, so if anyone can please point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Rock of Ages.

make sure you execute the instructions for target disk mode properly, because your screen is dead and you won't see the icon displayed.
    see here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8443.html
you may have to hold the T longer on the deadhead mac.

  • [X300 intel external display] Problem to display correctly 1600x1200px on external screen

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my external display on my X300 laptop...
    I have a X300 with WinXP, and a 20" 4/3 1600x1200 external display (Samsung 204B).
When I want to use my external display as an extended desktop, it didn't work well... First I configure my display as an extended ... into 1600x1200px resolution. As the ratio isn't 4/3 on the laptop, there is some border at the top and at the bottom of the external screen, consequenly there is an "lift" (when I go down the screen move down.. etc.). It's not very ..cool.
So there is an option into the graphic proprety to set the screen in "full screen : not keeping the proportions". But, in this case, my external screen display an ... triky ? There is still an "lift", but there is also two border on the right and the left of the screen, and the image quality isn't there. It's too deformed to can be read.
After some research it appear that my lenovo drivers do not match with the last intel one... But when I try to install the lenovo one ... It didn't work ! (hardware problem).
How can I get a working extended desktop into 1440x900 + 1600x1200 full screen !
Thanks for all, and sorry for my poor English...

i have the same problem with X200 and the X200 ultrabay Docking station.

  • Dreamweaver 8 on INtel Mac ftp problems????

The basic setup: I have an emac, installed Dreamweaver 8 (actually the entire studio package), it works fine. I want to move our webpage to a new imac (intel). I've copied the files, installed Dreamweaver 8, done the set up for the site.
The problem is: I can't get the FTP connection to work. Whether I'm in the SIte Management section, the TEST part, or trying to connect (with the little electric plug icon), I get this message...a file activity window opens, "An FTP error occured -- Cannot make connection to host. Dreaweaver could not connect because the serve is down or not accepting connections."
Things I've tried: I've explored diligently the Adobe/Dreamweaver website.
I've deleted the Files for Dreamweaver, the web site files from the local host, I've tested the connection using other FTP methods (safari -- a test suggested by Adobe or FEtch); I read some of the posts here after searching for Dreamweaver/Intel items. The server is not down since I've been able to connect an upload from another computer; the computer does perform FTP using other methods...which I suppose I can do...but it makes an extra step.
    I"ve tried using Passive FTP or not; I've tried everything I can think of...or suggested by outside sources (adobe, an instructor who teaches Dreamweaver, the Apple forums here); I modified the Hard drive name to eliminate spaces;
I've come to the conclusion it is more an "Apple" issue rather than a Dreamweaver issue.
I'm using the Dreamweaver on an emac and it works flawlessly!! But I need to use the emac for other purposes and set up the website on the Intel imac...
The Question: Any ideas or solutions or something to try????
Thanks for any help, suggestions, ideas. Cathy (working in an elementary school computer lab...)

Yes--I've tried the "test" ftp address suggested by Dreamweaver; I've used fetch to connect as well as upload something.
I've connected to the server from another computer....
Thanks for trying but...the server seems to be functioning okay.

  • Older mac display

does anyone know where I can find an older 20" mac display for sale?
if not, what type of monitor would be an affordable alternative to the current apple cinema 20" flat panel?
    thanks

Check out eBay for old Mac monitors, or go to a local Apple shop and ask if they have any refurbished ones in stock. If they don't they will usually tell you if they are to get any soon, so if they have any coming in soon, you can generally have them reserve one for you. Hope this helps!

  • Two ADC 17" mac displays w/Mac Pro?

I have a pair of the older 17" Mac displays with ADC connectors. I used them with my old MDD G4, which came with a video card that had DVI and ADC connectors. So, I obviously had to buy an ADC/DVI converter so I could use the DVI port that the computer came with (one of the monitors just plugged into the ADC.)
Now that I have the new Mac Pro, with two DVI connectors on the card, does anyone think there would be a problem buying another ADC/DVI converter so I can use two monitors with the Mac Pro? I just wanted to make sure.

"• the 27" is directly connected to the other MDP port.
    • One of the 20" monitors is using the MDP adapter into the 5770.
    • When I try to hook up the other 20" to the DVI port on the 5770 I get nothing.
Note: If you are using an Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, only two displays are supported across the three ports.
If you are connecting three displays, any DVI displays must be connected to either the Dual-Link DVI port or must use an Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link Adapter.
You MUST use All "Active" or "Powered" Mini DisplayPort connector such as the Apple Dual Link, or you can only use two displays

  • Are early Intel Macs dead as far as future Mac OsX's?

Ok so I have a silly message. Will Mac leave us in the dust as far as OsX on older Intel Macs circa 2006?

The 2006 models were the first and slowest Intel models.
Plus, the fact that the max. RAM for these iMacs is only 3 GBs.
Between the slow CPU and very limited RAM, I don't think the 2006 models are up to the challenge running Mt. Lion.
3 GBs is barely enough to run OS X, by itself, nevermind trying to run any other applications atop OS X.
I don't even think they are really up to running OS X 10.7 Lion!
I was still on a PowerPC Mac up until 4 months, ago.
PowerPC users end fate came in 2007 when OS X 10.5 Leopard was the last universal OS.
Onxe the switch to INtel CPUs came, every PowerPC Mac user knew the clock was ticking down to the day when these Mac would no longer be supported.
If late Mac upgraders bought the last of the G5 models produced in 2005, they only got 2-3 years of OS X updatea for OS X 10.5 before Apple pulled the plug on all support for PowerPC models.
The older PowerPC Mac user based fared a lot better and had quite a few years of support for their aging Macs.
Just because there is no longer any continued OS support doesn't mean your particular Mac still doesn't still do what you need or expect it to do. No one is forcing you to stay on the Mac hardware/software upgrade path.
Apple also did this with the transition from old 68000 model CPU's to the Motorola PowerPC CPU line of Macs back in the 1990's.
There is always going to be a time when Apple is going to discontinue Mac models.
There is no reason to feel left out if the Mac you purchased is still working well and for you.
I stayed with a 1.25 GHz PowerMac G4 tower with 2 GBs of RAM for almost 10 years. That Mac served me very well! For me, I had financial means and it was a decision to finally move on and move up to a more faster and modern Mac.
I purchased a 3 year old 27 inch screen iMac with the hope I can get another 4-6 years from the iMac.

  • Intel Mac Mini and Sony Wega displays

I purchased one of the G4 based Minis for use in my media center. At that time I had quite a bit of difficulty getting it to work with my Sony KDF-60xs955 60" HDTV. I did eventually get it working and stable but the process, when written down for others in this forum post, is somewhat intimidating.
My parents really need a new machine for their daily use and I'm going to be donating that Mini to them. Before I replace it with a new intel Mini (yay Front Row!) I want to know whether it will autodetect my television or not. I have no desire to spend the 4-5 hours needed to hack it into working again, plus the hassle of getting it to work again any time I switch displays for a few hours. More importantly I don't feel like I should have to...The HDTV is automatically detected by a PowerBook and that works flawlessly.
One of the major reasons I pay higher prices to Apple is so that it just works. My new iMac? It just works. My old PowerBook? It just works. My old Mac Mini? Not so much... So, here I am hoping to get an answer out of these forums: To buy or not to buy that is the question, whether tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous non-support or to take my cash away from this sea of troubles and by opposing end them.
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
I have downloaded the lastest Windows Media Player from Microsoft for Mac OS X, but it doesn't officially support the Intel Macs. It runs with wmv videos from my harddisk, for example, but I also can't play the amazon.com sound samples (I just tried). I guess it's because the Windows Media Player is running via Rosetta, maybe there is some problem there.
For the moment I could only suggest to use the Real-player sound samples as a work-around. Real player does work on the Intel Mac with these sound samples. Just that on my machine it does only download and I have to start it from the desktop instead of right inside of Safari. Maybe it's just a question of preferences, but it does work, at least.

  • Fscommand problem on Intel Mac

    Hello!
I am new to the forum and have a big problem.
I am trying to execute an application with fscommand on a
Intel Mac usin the latest standalone player (9.0.28)
    This is the code:
    fscommand("exec", "myapp.app");
myapp.app resides in a subfolder called "fscommand"
This does not work in the projector file created by the
9.0.28 player. It works in the flash 8 player under rosetta, but
then I lose to much performance. fscommand works fine on windows in
    all players.
Can anyone help me with this? Is it a bug, or is it due to a
undocumented change in the flash player?
My swf source file is in flash 8 format actionscript 2.0.
    Best Regards
    Rune

We found r28 was quite different under the hood from older 9
    players,
but I'm not sure what the work around is using a standard
    projector.
You can make this work with Mac version of mProjector it adds
    a
    executeApplication call.
    it is documented here
    http://www.screentime.com/software/mprojector/docs/index.html#mSystem
to use it you just install the mProjector mxp file add the
    call, export
your swf then convert it with the mProjector builder
    application

  • Problems with Safari, Acrobat, Intel Macs, and Life Cycle Form Mgr.

    Here is my problem:
A Mac user using 10.4.10, with Acrobat Standard Ed v.7.0.9 installed,
is having to approve purchase forms through Adober Life Cycle Form Manager
through Safari 2.0.4. When trying to approve the PDF forms, it tells her
she needs to have Acrobat v.7 installed, and only shows a white page.
Went back and launched Acrobat 7.0.9, and did the "Detect and Repair"
setting to verify the Adobe PDFViewer plugin was installed.
Said it was, checked the Library/Internet Plugins folder and it was.
Launched Safari, Safari's list of plug-ins does not show it as being installed.
Trashed the Safari .plist file, relaunched Safari, same thing.
Read on the Apple site that people were experiencing similar issues,
Read on Adobe's site that for Intel Macs, should be using v. 8.01.
Downloaded the 8.01 Acrobat Reader and installed it.
re-launched Safari, success, it says the plugin, v.8.01 is installed.
Go back to Adobe Life Cycle Forms Manager, go to view a PDF,
at 100% screen size, PDF shows correctly. Zoom in on details,
PDF goes blank, will not show details. Zoom back out,
PDF goes white page, no info displayed.
    My Questions:
    1. is it an issue with Adobe Life Cycle Forms Manager and Safari on Intel Macs?
    2. Is there a way to get a proper plug in for Safari, so that Acrobat will read the PDFs
    instead of the default Preview?
    thanks in Advance

  • Installation problems on Intel Mac. claims PPC

I'm trying to install the current Flash Player 10.2 on my Macbook 6,1 (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.26GHz) with 4GB RAM, running OSX 10.6.6
    Browser is Firefox 3.6.13 {Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13}
I got the installer from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
The installer puts up a message: "Devices with PowerPC processors are no longer supported"
How can I convince the installer that this isn't a PPC machine ?  Why might the installer think so ?

Hi, What browser are you using to try to Uninstall/Install FP vs 10.2? And when you Install 10.1, what browser are you using?
There is no Flash Player support for a 64bit browser. I have been very busy on the Forum and have not had time to check on the 10.3 beta. Not sure what it refers to. Have you? Just asking as I've seen it mentioned on another thread, but it's from those complaining about 10.2 not working. Why anyone would want a beta Installed unless they are involved in the testing and are Developers I don't know.
Any beta is a work in progress, so as long as a user is aware of that it's ok with me. Microsoft has their IE9 in beta too, but with an beta one can expect problems.
Since the 10.2 is not Installing, then I don't think you'd receive any code, do you?
I'm not as familiar with the Mac, but is it possible to upgrade the OS from a PPC to the edition you have now?
I'm going to check a couple of things while you let me know on the above browser info. Also any comments would be welcome:-)
    Thanks,

  • Text-wrap problem ID CS3 on Intel Mac

I've recently been upgraded to an Intel Mac workstation running Leopard and for the most part, the transition has been smooth.  However, I just noticed today that I cannot get "detect edges" to work on a text wrap around an object with a transparent background in a placed Photoshop file.  The detect edges only works if I have a white background.  I've never had this problem before, so I wonder if it's a result of my new computer.  I use this function of text wrap constantly, and I'm hoping someone knows if this is a known bug and if there is a work around.

You don´t have to use detect edges feature for extracted PSD-image.... just select a proper Contour Options Type, Alpha Channel for instance.
