Older iPhoto scans disappearing

iMac using OS x 10.9.5, iPhoto version 9.5.1 I have scanned 1000's of photos & slides to iPhoto since 2008. Some of the older scans still show in the Events mode but when I try to work on or edit these items I get a black screen. These photos are stored on an external drive but this problem was also happening before I moved them. Any ideas?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?

• After update iMovie and OS Yosemite recovery, iPhoto icon disappeared. How can I find photos stored on iPhoto?

I am using iOS Yosemite 10.10.3. After update iMovie version 10.10.08 and OS Yosemite Recovery. iPhoto icon disappeared. I opened the Photos icon but all my images which used to be in iPhoto were not there. How do I access those images in iPhotos?

Go to Finder>Applications and open the iPhotos app.
Apple want you to use the new Photos app which now should be in your Dock. Photos will import your iPhoto library

• HT4906 I recently updated to OS X version 10.8.4 and my iPhoto has disappeared. How do I get it back?

I recently updated to OS X version 10.8.4 and my iPhoto has disappeared. How do I get it back?

Updating the OS will not remove any apps, so you need to check out what went wrong there.
Where did you get iPhoto from? Is that a recent Mac? If so you can re-download it from the App Store. It'll be on your Purchases list.

• Iphoto has disappeared on all my computers

Ok I did not throw it away on any of my computer systerms. I have 3 macs and iphoto has disappeared on all of them. I plugged in my camera and that when I noticed its missing. On computer the icon is there but in the package is only music. WTH is going on. Is there a mac virus going around or something? Its not possible for this to suddenly happen on all three machines. One is an old MacPro that doesn't even have the latest on it. Did apple get rid of iPhoto? and deleted it without informing me?
I just called a friend and she was shocked to see it disappeared of her computer also
anyone know whats going on?

Who knew that you has upgraded AND done it with an erase and install option - if you don't other to tell us what you have done then we certainly can not guess
You do not have to buy iLife - it came on your computer and you can install it again after the upgrade -
reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only
For more information click here for the MacWorld article on reinstalling OS X applications.
Or if you do a simple upgrade rather than an erase and install (or even an archive and install) you will not erase your applications
With the way you "upgraded" you had to reinstall all of your applications - including, of course, iLife.

• IPhoto pictures disappears

Since the last uppgrade Drop Box wants to import all my pictures. I choosed not to do that when upgrading. SInce then I can see all my pictures in iPhoto, but in a few seconds almost all photos disappear. I´ve got at backup copy where all photos today are duplicated. What has happened?

Hi guys. I'm wondering if anyone knows why do pictures fromo iPhoto disappears automatically.
These is no "automatic" disappearance of photos in iPhoto - problems with your computer or operational errors can cause photos to "disappear" under some conditions but there is no such thing as an iPhoto automatic disappearance
I opened iPhoto this morning and it's working fine but later on today, i opened it again and all of the pictures are gone. Help??!!
To help you you need to tell us what happened and what is happening - from the time you saw photos until you did not what unusual occurrences were there? What do you see when yo open iPhoto? Did iPhoto ask you to create a new library? Is you library on the internal drive on an external drive? When was you latest backup made? Are you running Time Machine? anything else you can tell us?

• Iphoto thumbnails disappear with each reboot

My iPhoto thumbnails disappear any time I reboot or log out of iPhoto.
I use the rebuild command and get them back, but they don't stay.
Is this a problem with iPhoto or the address where the thumbnails are stored?

My iPhoto library is in the correct location on my laptop hard drive.
This all started with editing photos.
I backed up to time machine, then deleted @350 photos from a recent download.
iPhoto froze up with this, and I did a force quit.
Re opening iPhoto came back with all black thumbnails.
I option-command opened iPhoto and rebuilt the data, and the thumbnails.
The photos are there, but every time I log out of iPhoto, the thumbnails are gone again, and I have to rebuild.
So... I restored from a journaled copy of iPhoto photos, from time machine. The problem persisted.
To restore however I had to move my iPhoto library (30 Gigs) to an external hard drive because I did not have enough
room on my hard drive to restore from time machine.
The data is all there, but the thumbnails just won't persist.
I think it is haunted.
thanks

• Already asked AT&T and Apple Support. Updated iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.3, some older Visual Voicemails disappeared. Just noticed today. Not backed up in iTunes. Can I get them back?

New to this site, sorry if I didn't enter my question correctly ... Updated iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.3, some older Visual Voicemails disappeared. Just noticed today. Not backed up in iTunes. Can I get them back?

HALF-SOLUTION!!!! (Restoring only, basically.)
Restore the phone via iCloud.com
1. Go to iCloud.com , and log in.
2. If you want a back up, make sure you back it up to itunes now!
3. Now back to iCloud.com - select the device you want. Press "Erase iPhone" (or iPad, iPod whatever).
You will go through a few steps. Skip the phone number and leave a message, as it isn't lost. Your phone will be restored. No need for plugging in!
4. IMPORTANT: Just set it up as usual. Language, country blah. But then you'll get to a step where it says something like "This iPhone was erased with iCloud. Log in with the Apple ID you used to erase it". In this case, my Dad's. So please do that. Later on, the phone will ask for an Apple ID to be used for the phone. I put my own one as I didn't want my dads!!!! Lol....
5. Plug into iTunes and back-up.
As for updating, I'm still on 7.0.2,,, it ain't working on my phone or itunes!! :(

• My Iphoto has disappeared and my application disc gives me an error at the end of installation, how do I download IPhoto in my situation?

My Iphoto has disappeared all of a sudden. I tried to use my application disc but it gives me an error at the end of installation. I don't have to pay for an App that was already on my computer. How do I download or get IPhoto in my situation?

Is this an iLife installation disk or system install disk? In either case download the demo version of Pacifist and open the install package on the disk. Locate iPhoto and use Pacifist to install iPhoto. Then you'll need to apply the latest updater from the Apple Downloads webpage:
Apple - Support - Downloads. Just search for the iPhoto version you installed to get the updaters for that version.

• IPhoto Keywords - Disappearing?

Has anyone's iPhoto Keywords disappeared? Mine just have and it's not cool! I think it happened after Security update v1.0. So what gives, yo? Do I now have to sort through my whole freaking library again?

Did you repair disk permissions after running the update? The photo/keyword links are in the iPhoto.db file. You can make a copy of that file and open with a text editor and see what you find. A list of all keywords are kept in the AlbumData.xml file. If they are there but not being seen then you can try to rebuild the library. Make a backup of the iPhoto Library folder beforehand and then launch iPhoto with the CommandOption keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. I would select only the option to rebuild the database. See if that will bring them back.

• My iPhotos have disappeared completely. How do I get iPhoto back?

My iPhotos have disappeared completely. How do I get iPhoto back?

1. Your Library should be in the Pictures Folder, not the Applications folder. Are you sure that you're not looking at the Application?
2. If it is in the wring folder, move it to the Pictures folder. That's inly in the case of the Library not the application.
3.
Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

• Our iphoto library disappeared. how do we find it again?

our iphoto library disappeared. how do we find it again?

Hi laurie,
About a month ago, a friend of mine called and said that his i photo library had suddenly evaporated. When I took a look at his computer screen, I saw a very small sliver of gray at the bottom of his screen.
I put the cursor on it and was able to drag up the i photo library he thought was lost. Someone had dragged the iphoto window all the way down to the bottom of the screen, where you could only see a small sliver of it.
Who knows? Maybe your problem is as simple as that.
