Older Ipod Touches deserve the same update treatment!

So my son has an ipod 2G... he loves it and uses it all the time! It is still in mint condition. Now the problem I am having, is that he is coming across more and more apps that won't let him download because he needs iOS 4.3. He can't upgrade his ipod touch past a 4.2.1. I understand that newer, bigger, better ipods have taken over, but can someone please explain why ipods all have different updates? Or why he loses apps he had because their updated version now requires an updated version his ipod can't get? Because I can tell you, the camera I bought in 2004 can still be used on every computer, and prints on every printer... all of our older gaming consoles still work without updates, and some of our newer consoles play the games of those older consoles. But this ipod is well on it's way to uselessness. I paid good money for this and feel like it doesn't matter, too bad, so what if l it is still in good condition, give us more money for a new one. I can tell you this- I WILL NOT be buying another one in the future!! Either that, or Apple needs to come up with some sort of trade-in incentive. Am I the only one angry that this is happening?

The older iPods do not have the hardware to be compatible with the later versions of the iOS.
The 2G only has 128 MB of memory while the 5G has 512 MB.

  • I have my iphone 4 and an ipod touch on the same apple ID.  My daughter tried to change the settings on the ipod so that she could facetime on both her ipod and iphone which is on a separate Apple ID.  I no longer have a 3G connection.

I have an iphone 4 and an ipod touch on the same apple ID.  My daughter who uses the ipod tried to change the apple ID on the ipod to be the same with her apple ID on her own Iphone so that she can use facetime on both devices.  Not sure what she did but my 3G connection is no longer working.

Changing Facetime settings on an iPod will have no affect on cellular settings on an iPhone. Something else is going on there. If she did not change any settings on the phone, then nothing she did could affect your celluar 3G.

  • Can i have more than one ipod touch on the same account, or must they both be set up with different id's.

Can I have more than one ipod touch on the same account, or must they each have their own ID.

If you use the same account see the following to separate Messages and FaceTime between the two iPod see:

  • I have 2 ipod touches on the same apple id account.  Can I set facertime up on both with different access emails?

I have 2 ipod touches on the same apple ID/account.  My daughter uses one, and I use the other.  Can I set facetime up on each with different access email addresses (so that we don't get each others calls?)?

    I recommend that you
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

Can I use an iPad, iPad Mini and iPod touch on the same account?  Is there a limit to how many devices I can use?

When you turn on your iDevice for the first time just sign in with the same Apple ID and you can download any apps you have purchased in the past! There shouldn't be a limit to how many devices you can use.

  • Can the 4th gen iPod Touch run the same apps as iPhone 4?

I am sorry, I'm not much informed about stuff like this, so I'm pretty much a noob.
I got my eye on the new iPod Touch, especially because it is (from what I've read) an iPhone 4 without the phone and the GPS and a somewhat slightly inferior camera and display. I like the iPhone, too, of course, but the price is something that is really important to me, so it's iPod Touch for me.
I read about all the new features for the new iPod, such as games and other apps, but I'm wondering - can it run the same games apps as the iPhone?
From the fact they operate on the same OS and that they're very similar hardware wise (same processor) I concluded that they can run the same apps, but as I never seen it officially and as there only "iPhone apps" on iTunes store (not iPod Touch apps) I got the impression that might not be true.
So I am asking here now, does the latest iPod Touch run the same apps (games etc.) as the latest iPhone? And can I run the iPhone apps I buy from the appstore on the iPod Touch 4th gen?
I am sorry for my uninformativeness and I thank you in advance.

Most of the iPhone apps will work the same way on the 4G iPod as they do on the phone. However, other that rely on the specific feature unique to the phone may install but will not work well if at all. The App Store should identify the system/device requirements.

  • I tried updating my iPod touch to the newest update. But my iPod was unable to complete the update now it doesn't even turn on completely. The apple logo appears but then the screen goes blank. What should I do?

I tried updating my iPod touch to the newest update. But my iPod was unable to complete the update. Now my iPod doesn't turn on completely. The apple logo appears but then the screen goes blank. I've tried charging it, letting it discharge, I've tried things I found on the internet but nothing seems to be working. What can I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Does the new ipod touch have the same camera optics as the iphone 4S?

Does the new iPod Touch have the same camera optics as the iPhone 4S?

Thank you for your reply. But once again if you can clarify please: Let's say I want to purchase the new white iPod Touch (introduced October 2011), will it have the 8 MP camera and improved optics? I'm wondering because I love to take photos and use photo-sharing apps, and I've read so many great reviews on the outstanding camera of the iPhone 4S - but I can't afford the iPhone just yet (also because of my current phone contract) so I was wondering if the newest iPod Touch camera is the same as iPhone 4S. I have the iPod Touch 4th gen, the one introduced Sept 2010, and as you may know that camera isn't the best. I just want to take better photos to share.
    Thank you.

  • Can I sync my two ipod touches using the same iTunes account

I have two ipod touches and I am wondering if I can sync my legally bought digital movies from blu-ray discs that are on the cpu and registered, will it sync with two ipod touches with the same iTunes account.

The movies on the laptop are just digital copies. A lot of newer blu-ray movies come out with the blu-ray and a digital copy for the cpu as well. Thanks for responding.

Yes, it acualy does, witch I found suprising.

  • Can i use & charge my iPod Touch at the same time??

If i am using and charging my iPod Touch at the same time. Does it damage the battery??

Yes you can use and charge the iPod Touch at the same time.
You can not use and Sync iPod Touch at same time though as Syncing will not allow you to use the touch till it is finished or you cancel the sync.
If you do use it while charging just keep in mind as you use it you basically got a Charging/Discharging action occurring during this time. So it is best to let it charge as much as possible. Disconnect and use.
But if you have immediate need to access something you are ok. If you got a Dock station that has speakers that work with touch. Some of these Dock stations will charge touch and allow you to listen to music at the same time.

  • Is it possible for apple headquarters to add battery percentage to iPod touch for the new update? It would be a lot easier to see the percentage and so the iPod wouldn't die randomly when it's 20% or lower

Is it possible for apple headquarters to add battery percentage to iPod touch for the new update? It would be a lot easier to see the percentage and so the iPod wouldn't die randomly when it's 20% or lower

All the people here do not really know because all are just users like you, not from Apple
    but ...
there are some apps you can download that monitor the battery percentage more accurately. Some are more reliable than others so you might have to do some research but this could be an option for you

  • My computer broke and I lost my ipod touch at the same time. Then I put all of my new music on my nano. Then I found my ipod touch. How do I get the music from the ipod touch to the computer and also keep the music I bought for the nano?

I have an ipod touch and an ipod nano. I also used to have a laptop but, it quit working and I no longer have it. I had all of my music on my laptop. So, I had to buy a new desktop. I lost my ipod touch at around the same time. I had all of my music on the ipod touch that was from my laptop. So in thye meantime I started using my nano more. I bought new songs on my desktop for my nano. Then I found my ipod touch. I would like to be able to keep both the somgs I have now on my ipod touch and the ones that I already bought on the desktop. What do I do?

    No.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
When music was purchased on a CD, if the CD was lost and you returned to the store where the CD was purchased with your receipt, were you given a replacement CD?
    The same applies here.

  • I can't recall my passcode to my older iPod touch (after the newer one got stolen) and it's not showing up in iTunes, how can I restore it to clear the passcode?

I can't recall the passcode to my older iPod, iPod touch 2g 8GB, (someone stole my 4g) and it's not showing up in iTunes, is there any other way to do a 'restore' to clear the old passcode and be able to access the iPod? Anyone???

The only way is to restore the iPOd via iTunes. Have you tried:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    P
Have yu tried setting your iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next wold be to place the iPod in recovery mode to see if iTunes will see it. For recovery mode see:

  • Is the new Ipod Touch 8gb the same as the 4th generation?

Hi, I'm looking into getting the Ipod Touch 5th generation 8gb. I have the 3rd generation 8gb and I found that this was pretty much the same as the 2nd generation, so when I tried to update to the new iOS at the time, it only had limited features, while the 32GB+ versions had the full set. It even comes up that I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch registered to my account, whereas I paid for a 3rd generation model -.-
I dont really need 32GB so I was wondering whether I'd have the same problem with the 8GB 5th generation when a new iOS update comes out. Thanks

    - You said: " I have the 3rd generation 8gb ".  You have a 2G iPod  Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods.  When Apple introduced the 3G iPods, the 8 GB 2G iPod but  with updated iOS was continued to be sold.
    - There is not 5G iPod touchyet.  The ones introduced in October 2011 are sill 4G iPod but with a less expenisve price and also available in white.  There is not confusion  like there was when the 3G iPod was introduced.
