Older IWEB into IWEB 09

Hey my Mac died that I designed my site on using an older version of IWEB. Not all of the files were able to be recovered. I need to update my site. Can I redesign just the page I need to update in the new version and publish it to my site, despite that I built the site on an older version? Or will I have to recreate my whole site? Thanks!

I think you will have to re-build your whole site in iWeb 09 or whatever you now have - if you have more than just one page, then you have your navigation links to worry about that won't work like this.
No way around it but to re-build the whole site again.

  • I was running Firefox on another computer that lost it's motherboard, was able to salvage the harddrive, but my mail files on the older hard drive have a different name, how can I pull or import those older files into firefox running on another computer?

I had been running other email clients for years and finally switched to Firefox. All the while importing my other email folders. So I had quite a large history of email. I had been backing up my system using Acronis for years. My desktop's motherboard crashed and was not worth repairing. I pulled my desktop hard drive and turned it in a standalone drive. I re-established my email on a laptop starting from scratch using Firefox. I would like to import (if possible) the emails history that is stored on the standalone drive (formerly my old hard drive). However, the names of the mail folders on the drives are different. For example: current computer the mail folder is named garlic.com. On the standalone drive (old hard drive) there are several folders and they are named, for instance; mail.garlic.com, mail.garlic-1.com , and so forth. it goes up through garlic-4.com.
How can I pull or import these older folders into my current email folder and see all my old email archives?

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

  • Importing photo album from older library into new library

Hi,  I have thousands of pictures and my iPhoto app is starting to stall and freeze.  I'd like to reduce the size of the library by creating a new one ( which I've done) and then moving my picture albums from the older library into the new library.  I can't seem to find any info on how to do this.  I'd appreciate any information that you might have.  Thank you.

5k images is a tiny Library. There's a reason it's slow. I would try rebuilding it:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Opening older iWeb project from new computer running iWeb 08

I have a project done under an older version of iWeb on another computer, and want to open it from the new MacBook Pro running iWeb 08. I can see the files in my iDisk, but they don't seem to be complete.
    Suggestions?
    Thx

    You need the domain.sites2 file.
iWeb uses that file to store all the content you create with the application.
What you see on your iDisk are the published pages.
You have to get the domain file from that other computer.
It's here (or should still be there):
    +~/Library/Application Support/iWeb+

  • Import older iWeb content to iWeb 08

    Hello,
I just install / updated iWeb to 08 and I have 4 sites that were created in the older version, however I am unable to get them to load or be seen in the new version. Does anyone out there know how to get iWeb 08 to see my previous sites or a way to import my old sites?
    Thank you in advanced,
    Gerry

Is your domain file in it's default location? username/library/application support/iweb/domain.
not sure but if it is not the update may not know where it is.
if it is there there find it and double click it to open the program and see if it loads.

  • Want to open Kodak Photo CD files (.PCD) in Photoshop CS5.  In CS4 i copied file "Photo CD.8BI"  from an older version into the File Format folder.  This does not work with CS5.  Any fix?

I have several old Kodak Photo CD with PCD image files.  I am now using Photoshop CS5.  Some years ago while using Photoshop CS4 I copied a file:  "Photo CD.8BI" from an older, CS2, version to the Plug-ins/File Format folder of CS4.  This does not appear to work with CS5.  Any fix?

It can be made to work, but you have to run the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5, and as I recall there's an additional DLL called pcdlib32.dll that's needed from the old installation.

  • Older drives into a newer intel

I have a couple of drives that came out of an older, PPC G5.  What precautions should I take when installing them in the Mac Pro?  Any possible damage?  Thanks.

Thanks Martin.  Didn't know about the screws.  Will remove them prior to installing.
While we're on the subject of Mac surgery, is there anything special I should know about replacing/upgrading the ram?  Did some on the old G5 but I'm sure things have changed over the years.
    Thanks again.

  • IWeb saving in iDisk

I've been trying to add specific links on my website by changing the HTML text in the iDisk HTML file copy. I then "Save" after changes. When I double click on the newly saved file, it opens in a web browser (Safari) as I want it to look. However, the changes don't show up when I actually open the website.
    1. I've deleted my iDisk copy and then published to .Mac. New version does not show up on iDisk.
    2. After publishing, when I open my website, it has new version however (I need to find new version so I can change HTML text).
Where are the actual HTML files located that are seen on my website?
I'm new to this so detail is good. Thanks

I'll try and anwswer your questions as best as I can. Your questions are in bold type.
Why can't the specific links be done in iWeb itself? Please be more (no pun intended) specific.
A: This is not so much a link as html code with a link. Twitter to be specific. I've read suggestions from other posts and some websites suggesting I change the .HTML file in iDisk>Web>Sites>iWeb>Sitename using TextEdit.
Are you making the changes post publishing in iDisk? (copying the file from idisk, saving on desktop, making html changes, saving and replacing file with same name back into iDisk?
A: I've never copied iDisk file to desktop, changed, saved and replaced. I'll try that next. Here's my process: 1. I include a placeholder in iWeb where I want Twitter. Then I "Save" & "Publish to .Mac". 2. I go to iDisk>Web>Sites>iWeb>Sitename, open the page with TextEdit where Twitter place holder is, paste the html code from Twitter site and "Save". At this point I assume the newly saved .html file will be reflected on my website, not so.
Each time an iWeb site is re-published (updated) to dotMac, it replaces the "older" iWeb site and any changes to html files are also replaced with the updated iWeb.
I change the html code after each time I re-publish, hoping it will work, it never has.
Maybe my process order is not correct. I'll try your suggestion with the copy to desktop... and the link too.

  • How can I edit a published Website in iWeb again?

    Hi there,
after upgrading to Leopard my former published website-folders have not been overtaken to new installed iWeb ´08.
How can I edit those older iWeb-folders (import them to new installed iWeb ´08 again) to provide from rebuilding the complete stuff?
    Thanks very much for infos...
    Sincerely,

Did you find an answer on this, or give up? I've done the latter, and recommend that you also consider buying a more useful application for this purpose.
This really is an unbelievably silly oversight on Apple's part to "break" our webpage interface so that users lose their website (which I did by trying to link iweb to it) or cannot edit it in any way after a new install nor find it for edit from another machine (like my laptop).
The whole idea of this "basic" software was that we users don't need to be "savvy". But this takes savvy to a whole new level.
I recommend you, find some freeware or just buy a decent app, that actually allows you to download the website into it (like the Netscape Communicator's built-in webpage editor used to do). It allowed the user to save the currently loaded webpage, edit it, and publish it properly.
    Good luck to us all.

  • I'm afraid I have lost the contents of my former iWeb

I purchased iLife 08 today and loaded iWeb and without thinking I clicked "yes" to changing the cookies/ keychain thingie. However I don't want to lose my previous iWeb which i've had for over a year. I just want to add the additional site. Before I publish the new one can anyone please tell me how I go about retrieving the older iWeb with my information?

I appear to have lost my iWeb work too... :+(
The published stuff is still viewable online (thankfully!)
    BUT
Some of the editable files on my machine have vanished.
After the new iLife 08 was installed it generated a notice about a new software version which I downloaded. It then set about doing something to the existing files which appeared to be taking some time so I went out for a coffee.
When I came back, the machine had run out of disk space and offered a box to force quit applications (which I did). I Force Quit'ed all the other apps but whatever the routine iWeb had been running was, it had stopped.
It appears to have done its work on some of the iWeb files (these I can still see on my machine) but others it appears to have erased (?) as I can no longer see them. It's like it cleared the decks to do some file conversion work, got halfway through and then lost what it couldn't finish.
I've tried re-installing iLife and redownloading the upgrade but it hasn't triggered that file conversion routine again.
iWeb generates errors if I attempt to Publish what it's converted so far, and I can't see the files I suspect it failed to convert.
All my data is present and correct online so at least there's a good set of data there.
Any ideas how I can get iWeb to work properly again and restore my files?

  • If I upgrade my system software will I loose use of iWeb?

I am getting the new iPhone and want to upgrade my MacBook Pro software to the newest version.  I am currently using iWeb and don't want to loose use of it when I upgrade my system software.  Will I still be able to manage my web site with the new system software and the older iWeb?

Info About iWeb Courtesy of Old Toad
As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.   On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.   All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.   There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.

  • How do i import old iWeb themes to the latest version of iWeb ?

I just got an iMac. Ive done this prviously on my macbook but totaly forgot how to do it. Help

Are you sure you're referring to iWeb and not iDVD?  IDVD does have older themes that can be installed separately from the application.  iWeb has all of its themes inside the application itself and adding additional themes from 3rd parties require an installer that can modify several files inside the application as well as place the theme files where they need to go.
I don't remember any themes from the older iWeb being dropped in the latest version.

  • Iweb with Lion: Umlaute after ftp-upload on linux-Server are not correct - but worked with Leopard!

Hi from Germany. I used iweb 3.04 and OS X 10.6+ and everything worked fine on different websites, including German Umlaute ä, ö, ü, ß.
After upgrading to Lion all Umlaute are not correct spelled (strange letters) after ftp-upload on a linux-server (which is the same as before). Before upload these Umlaute are spelled correctly, but not after upload.
Trials were a) upload htaccess file b) use older iWeb 3.03 c) asking server administrator (answer: "use ae, oe, ue instead"), but nothing worked.
    Any ideas or help?
Thank you very much, and excuse my english
    Peter

The problem lies in the uploading of the files or the server itself.  If the umlautes looked good on the server before then we have to think it's the uploading process.  Try using the free FTP client  Cyberduck to upload your site folder to your server.  Then check to see if the rendering is correct.
What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?
