Older model iPod mini transfers songs really slow

I connected an older edition of the mini to my pc and it gave an error that said that it could not be written on or read by the computer. afterwards the songs on the ipod were lost. it did not ask me to format or anything. after this i actually did run a restore and tried to load new songs on it only to find that the songs are transferred at an extremely slow rate. Like 1 every 30-40 seconds. I formatted it again to no avail. and the software is up to date.

My daughters computer hard drive failed. We were able to get alot of files from the hard drive except for songs downloaded from CD to itunes. Also all of her songs (both purchased from itunes and CDs are on her ipod.

The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

How does iPod Mini store songs and playlists?

I am a new user of iPod Mini.
I have some music in my music library in iTunes and I have created a few playlists. Some songs are in multiple playlists. When I copy over these playlists, will these music files get copied over twice or only once?
I am worried that this will eat up space on my iPod and hence I am wondering whether to remove all dups in my playlists.
Can anyone please advise? I would expect that iPod dumps all song files at one place and the playlist is just a pointer to these various files. Can someone confirm if this is true?

Ipod mini skipping songs....very upset

my ipod mini is skipping songs. the songs it is skipping are songs from cd's. i have tried restting it and restoring it. i am getting very upset with the whole ipod deal and am ready to throw it out the window. this is not the first problem i've had.

I have tried everything...and my mini still won't play purchased music after 2-3 days.
I have tried to restore to factory settings. I have tried to restore in disc mode. I have de-authorized, and re-authorized itunes. I have rebuilt the itunes library. Nothing seems to work. I'm no ipod specialist, but I think there has to be a software problem that's causing this, not the ipod itself.
I have called tech support and spoken with them, and explained what I am experiencing and what all I have tried and their answer is that I have tried everything and that I should take it to a store and have them run a diagnosis on the unit. I did just that, the guys at the store erased the unit and reinstalled the software. I took it home synched it to my itunes and still 3 days later nothing...
I am guessing that apple cruises through these boards...I would like to challenge them to offer an explaination/solution to this problem. I know that I am not the only one experiencing this. I'm completely frustrated and trying to keep my cool here but I am really loosing patient with this product. So here is my plea...HELP!

i bought songs with the itunes music store and now when i try to play them on my ipod mini it just skips them! has this happened to anyone else???? or can anyone help me???? One last thing, when your iPod is connected to iTunes and you try to play it through the computer do you get Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen? This would mean that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. IPod touch 4G being really slow???

Is my iPod touch 4th Generation White 32GB just getting old? My iPod is becoming really slow and is crashing a lot! Is it because of my A4 chip becoming "Outdated" and does this mean I just have to upgrade my iPod touch 4G to a 5G?

The 5G is better since it has a duel-core processor and twice the memory, 512 MB vice 256.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Double click the Home betton and delete all the apps from the recently used dock
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Ipod and transfering songs....

ok well originally my ipod wouldnt update songs but i fixed that with the Chkdsk . so now i plug in my ipod and it started loading al my songs onto ipod when complete i unplugged it but the song havent transfered on ipod...... so i tried again now it says that itunes or my ipod has gone over song limit so it craeted an ipod selection list but i have not used up my 1000 song or 3.8g memory im only up to 3.20..... please help

Bear in mind that Apple quotes the number of songs you are able to store on any iPod by using aac at 128kbps for a 4 minute song. Any variation of this will mean a difference in the number of songs you are able to store.
I would try restoring the iPod and reloading the songs.

Transferring music from older model ipod to new ipod.

I have a 3rd generation ipodMB245LL on pc and I am not able to upload songs from this ipod into my itunes in an effort to transfer them to my new nano MP690LL. Why wont Itunes allow me to do this especially if I own both the ipods and the itunes?
I am able to downlod songs from itunes to the new ipod. Itunes also recognizes the old ipod but will not let me "drag" songs into the library from the old ipod eventhough the itunes and ipods are registered under the same name.

Syncing music is a one way street with the iPod and that is from iTunes to the iPod and NOT the other way around. The only exception to this rule is with iTunes purchases. You can transfer them back to iTunes by plugging the iPod and choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.

Ipod Nano (older model) -- won't play songs

My Ipod Nano was working fine yesterday but today, it says it's NOW PLAYING the song but the counter isn't moving and there is a funny looking symbol on the right side of the screen that kind of looks like a little pair of scissors.
I copied songs (MP3 files) off my hard drive onto the Ipod. That has always worked fine for me before.
I tried sliding hold button back and forth. Checked volumn level. Can't figure out why it won't play!
Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried a hard reset of the device yet? To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Older Model iPod Shuffle is not recognized on my computer or in iTunes

I had an old iPod shuffle that was a gift -- I'd never opened it. A friend hooked it up to her computer and put some songs on it. I was thrilled to finally be able to use it, but wasn't happy with the song selection. So I downloaded iTunes and loaded all my cds in there. That worked, but when I hook the shuffle up to the computer, there is no recognition of it -- at all. Not in the devices or on iTunes. What do I do?

Ipod mini skips songs

I have a 4g mini that started rapidly skipping song as soon as itunes updated to v6. I hoped v7 would fix it but not luck. I've tried restoring and it works for a little while but after about a week it starts again. It usually happens with purchased music only.

I just started having this problem too after I updated from version 4 of itunes to version 7 b/c it forced me to in order to purchase an album on the itunes store. I was able to play the entire album for a couple of weeks but now it starts to skip all the songs and even when I try to select it, it will not play (this occurs with other itunes purchased songs as well). Were you able to fix the issue? When I plug my ipod into the computer it says the software is up to date. I tried resetting it twice but it's still skipping. Help, anyone??

About your only potential solution is to try a hard reset of the iPod. To do this, press and hold both the Select and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear. If no luck the first time, don't be afraid to try it a few more times.
Again, it's really your only option at this point. Sorry.
