Older programs

Hi Guys, I have an older mac mini g4, running panther, and have just upgraded to my new 8 core mac pro, running leopard. There were a few nice apps that came with the mini on the bundled recovery discs - games the family likes. I would like to be able to put these on the new mac pro....Can this technologically be done? Considering they were designed for the mini G4, and I'll be putting them onto my mac pro? I dont want to do anything that'll upset this new system as I use it also for my income, cutting videos. For the most part things that run under OS X will work with Leopard - although you need to research each one to be sure
No program that requires OS 9 will work under leopard - there are some programs that may help run OS 9 (classic) programs but there have been mixed reviews

It says it cannot removed the older version of iTunes.
Doublechecking before proceeding ... what's the precise text of that message, please? (There's a couple of different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

Bought Win 8 PRO upgrade, still can't use older programs!

I bought a new Windows 8 computer and was told that if I wanted to use my older programs that were compatible with XP, Vista, etc., that I would have to upgrade to the Pro version of Win 8. I spent the extra $99.99 and the thing STILL WON'T LET ME RUN
THOSE PROGRAMS! That's so frustrating! I replaced my previous computer -- a year-old DELL that wasn't just a lemon it was a lime, too -- because it was too frustrating. Now I'm frustrated with my month-old computer that I "UPGRADED" the OS to enable
me to continue using my favorite programs (desktop publishing, photo editing, etc.) and it won't let me do so. I'm ready to go APPLE if this issue isn't resolved to my satisfaction! I'm so tired of arguing with computers and trying to make them do what they're
supposed to! A long, solid cement block wall is so VERY tempting right now; a solid introduction to my current and previous (I still have it) computers would be so much fun!
How do I make my Windows 8 PRO computer actually do what I was told it would do: Run the older programs? I'm not asking for the moon, just for Microsoft to keep their word!

Probably that's why the user was told to upgrade, Hyper-V is an optional feature in Windows 8 Pro.
Yeah, probably true. Although previous versions of the desktop OS had Virtual PC. I believe this is probably more an attempt to standardize on the more robust Hyper-V product (and allow better upgrades and experience) and let the older VPC, as
legacy, ride quietly into the sun.
That, and to piss VMware off even further as more people learn of and realize the true power of Hyper-V. >:)

How do I install older programs?

HP P7-1326s, Windows 8, set up was done prior to my installing my personal products. My older programs get just so far and freeze up. A friend has the same computer, OS and had no trouble with installation.

did you upgrade or did your friend upgraded his pc to w8 ?
if that maybe why
and you can go to look up for the software and check for update on it to use that same one that you had in older version of windows
to find the update for your software is to go to the site of that software or is parent provider and if it is a key code required
and ask the customer or tech support of that provider

Will Lion work with older programs

I have lots of older programs including Adobe CS, Adobe CS3, Eudora 6.2, etc. that work fine on my iMac running 10.6.8 with i3 processor, will they work with Lion if I upgrade? Just checking before I download the update. Thanks for any info.

CS3 runs but reportedly has issues. Adobe CS, the original version, will not work, nor will any application that is PowerPC only, since Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications. If you don't know what apps are PowerPC only, Get Info on the app, and in the Kind section, it will say. Apps that say either "Intel" or "Universal" at least have the potential to run, though there are other factors involved in Lion compatibility. The RoaringApps site is a useful resource:

Upgrading from an older program.

This may seem like a dumb question, but I don't know much about Classic, SheepShaver, or any of the ways to run older programs.
I bought an upgrade version for Adobe Illustrator CS3 and the seller tossed in a copy of Illustrator 8.0.1 in, but I can't install that because it requires Classic Environment, and I looked at the SheepShaver site and it was all Greek to me. I am not a programmer and don't know the first thing about assembling binaries or any of that stuff.
Any help with this delima of mine would be great.

If I understand what you have done, I think you should get your money back. So: you got an upgrade Illustrator CS3, you did not own a previous version of Illustrator to upgrade from, so the seller gave you Illustrator 8. You would install Illustrator 8, then run the Illustrator upgrade. Is that correct? If so, it won't work with an Intel machine.
Even if you had the skills necessary to get Sheepshaver going I doubt you could then install the upgrade. Maybe someone could, but they would have to be very very skillful indeed. The upgrade needs to check the previous version of Illustrator before it will install, and I'm not at all sure it would even be able to see the version in OS 9 inside of Sheepshaver.
If you can't get your money back, try to find a version of Illustrator 10. That was the first version to run in OS X, and you might find one cheap that you can register.

That's because those applications aren't ready for Retina resolutions. In your case, the only way to make those applications work correctly is to upgrade those applications (the most recent CS and Office 2011 supports Retina), or open System Preferences > Displays, and select a smaller resolution

depend on the source I suppose if you play non widescreen media on a widescreen tv there is no magic way to make it display full screen unless you cut up top and buttom

I've got some older mac games is there anyway to get them to run in OS X? it keeps telling me that they're not supported on the system, does OS X not support older software? or am I doing something wrong?

Intel Macs (like the MacBook) do not support programs for OS 9 or earlier.
Which game(s)? Some of them may have OS X native installers-look on the developer's support site.

Direct x 12 support for older programs

I want to know if the new API will support, or improve in any aspect, programs that are using older API's such as Directx 9c - 11.2.
alternatively, will computers forced to use hybrid/switchable graphics be able to use the up coming API? IE AMD/Intel graphics systems.

How to run older program on newer Mac?

I recently made the switch from Windows to Mac with a brand new Macbook Air. It's running OS X Yosemite 10.10. I'm a screenwriter and so a friend of mine gave me an older copy of Final Draft that was torrented and said it could be used on Lion and Mountain Lion. Every time I go to install it on my Air the Installer says it has to close and then re open then says its going to run a package to see if it can be installed on my computer then spits out an error saying I need to have a newer version of OS X but as far as I can tell I have the newest version. Anybody know a way around this or why it's doing this?

Not unless you want to. Each version is a separate standalone version and you can keep both if you like.

I have been trying to figure out how to download the version of elements I already own, elements 9. I have hard copy version, thus the serial number but my new computer does not have a disc drive so trying to figure how to download from online source....I keep getting routed to downloads for elelments 11, can find no source for elements 9. Help!!??

ITunes compatibility error "Make older programs run in

I've been installing iTunes several times and after launching it it stops working sending message:

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
iTunes doesn't need compatibility mode to run, but you may need to run it as an administrator.

When I get art work from older illustrator programs and other programs the colors don't print the same as they did about 2 months ago. Big issue for me! How do I cange this or fix it?

Things were going fine until about a month or so ago, now when I take files from older illustrator programs or other programs that ran fine with illustrator before, the colors change. This is a BIG problem for me right now! I tried the on line help thing and I was afraid to erase the files that it asked me to erase because I may want it back the way it now is some day and because I don't have the files from the older program... PLS help! Have tryed to call and am waiting for a chat to open,...

You may have different Color Settings, and if you use Pantone you should be aware that the whole interpretation has changed (a number of times, most radically recently).
If you say more, more can be said.
