Older Projection TV without HDMI ports

Hello,
I was recently given a 65 inch HDTV ready Projection screen tv.  Here is the link for the model. http://dprojection-hdtv.blogspot.com/2011/07/toshiba-65h82-65-inch-169-hdtv-ready.html.  It is I would like to say 7 years old and does not have hdmi ports.  I have a lot of videos on my Xbox 360 that I would like to play on it.  I am using the HD composite cable for it right now and it just isn't as clear as I would want it to be.  Is there anything I can do? Is there something that converts component cables to HDMI? If someone could help that would be greatly appreciated!!

I had one of those! It was a fantastic TV at the time. You could really get a spectacular picture out of them, howerver....it's a 10 year old CRT RPHDTV so you're probably not going to get a great picture out of it anymore. You're going to deal with two issues:
1) Phospor aging is the first. There are three color guns inside that TV, as the R/G/B phosphors age, they lose brightneess and produce a less accurate image. The typical lifespan of those TV's is about 10 - 12 years depending on how it was used.
2) Convergence is the second. The three color guns need to be 'aimed' correctly to produce a clear image. The 'touchfocus' button on the front of the TV will start an auto-convergence cycle, then you can manually adjust the convergence in the TV's menu system.
Good luck.

    Hi,
Based on its specs, it has:
    Expansion Slots:
    1 PCI Express x16 (Gen2.0)
    3 PCI Express x1 (Gen2.0)
1 PCI Express Mini Card x1
The option: you can add a video card to the PCIe x16 and use a card which has HDMI port. It only has 220W PSU therefore you have to update the PSU too.

  • Can Apple TV be used on a HDTV without HDMI port? If yes, what is needed for setting up?

I have a Sony wega HDTV, and it does not have HDMI port, does anyone know if I can use Apple TV on it? If so, how is it set up?

Current AppleTVs require a TV with HDMI.
You may find some dubious adapters out there which purport to convert to other formats.
If your Tv has VGA in and an audio input you might want to look at:

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV?

I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV? I have a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, but there are two issues with it: The new display doesn't have a VGA port, and even if it did, I wouldn't want to have my mac constantly attached to the display by a cable. I was looking for a way to use the TV as a display without any wires. Is there some type of bluetooth setup I could use? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

As I wrote above, I think you should look into the Apple TV yourself. The best place to find information about what it can and can't do and to ask your own specific questions is probably in the Apple TV forum, here:

  • Can I Hook an Apple TV to an older TV that does not have HDMI Ports using a connector cable

I have an older Sony HD TV and would like to hook my Apple TV to that TV but it does not have HDMI Ports.  Can I hook my Apple TV to this TV through a cable adapter that converts HDMI to Component Video and Audio (Red Green Blue Video Cables, Yellow White Audio) or HDMI to S-Video.  I have both these connections on my TV.  Thanks

Thanks, I actually meant a converter box I just wanted to make sure that using that would work.  With Amazon FireTV Sticks for example I  jhave been told that only a direct HDMI connection to the TV would allow the device to work at all.

i have connected my macbook pro to my tv via MDP to HDMI port cable, all that is showing up is the basic desktop image without any icons, what do i do to correct this

Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.

  • Has anyone successfully connected New ATV without HDMI?

There are numerous threads suggesting a variety of methods that MIGHT connect ATV to an older HDTV w/o HDMI but has anyone actually done so successfully? If so, please explain what actually worked. I'm curious because I'm stuck with a Mitsubishi rear screen with DVI, Component, S Video but no HDMI.
    Thanks

I just received an Apple TV for Christmas and was able to hook it up to my RCA projection TV that has a DVI input only. I have a HDMI to DVI cable that I hooked between the Apple TV and the TV, and I hooked up the optical audio output to my surround receiver.
I did have an issue with the picture not displaying correctly to the television when I first turned on the Apple TV, but after the software updated, the picture is now more stable. There are some minor issues with the menu not totally appearing at the top right of the screen, but when I toggle the menu back and forth, the missing information reappears.
To make sure that I didn't have any audio issues, I set the audio to dolby 5.1 "on" instead of auto, which was suggested in another thread. I really didn't try any audio/video without it set up in this fashion and I don't recall hearing the menu clicks on my stereo until I changed the setting.

  • How to connect MacBook Pro 17" Mountain Lion with HDMI port on TV, Panasonic TC-P55ST50

Any experience with cables for connecting MacBook Pro 17" Mountain Lion with HDMI port on TV, Panasonic TC-P55ST50 (or similar)?

It depend upon the model (age) of you MBP.  If you have a Thunderbolt or minidisplay port, then you will need a minidisplay/HDMI adapter.

Or you can get an all in one:

If you have an older mac with a DVI port, you will need something like this:

Note that audio is supported via HDMI for MBPs 2010 and later.  Earlier ones require tapping the audio output port.
    Ciao.

  • How to connect Apple TV when I have run out of HDMI Ports?

I have a Sony Bravia TV with 3 HDMI Ports - in those I have connected:
    - Sony Home Theater Surround Sound
    - Playstation
    - Sky Digital TV HD Box
Is there a way to connect Apple TV without disconnecting any of the above? (and without buying a new TV with 4 HDMI ports!)

lkrupp is correct, the only soution is to add what's called an HDMI switch to your setup.  The HDMI switch normally has 2, 4, 6, or 8 HDMI inputs and one output.  The output goes to your display.  You then select which input you want to choose. In your case, you can do one of two things:
Connect all your sources to the HDMI switch.  You then select sources via the HDMI switch and you no longer need to change HDMI inputs on your TV.
Disconnect one of the HDMI sources you have (let's say it's the Playstation) and plug both the Playstation and the APPLE TV into the switch.  In this setup you need to change the input on both the TV and the HDMI switcher.
The simplest setup in your case is to buy a 4 or 8 port HDMI switch and put all your devices on the switch.  If you are looking for inexpensive HDMI switches, you need to look at Monoprice.  The stuff is all manufactured overseas and can be hit or miss but it's the cheapest that you'll find.  If you feel like you need some guidance and help, then try www.hdtvsupply.com.  They have a good selection and great support.

  • Video Cards with Standard DP & HDMI Ports

Since the NVIDEA 120 and ATI 4870 both have mini-DisplayPorts, they require an <adapter> to use with any monitor other than Apple's 24" LED (correct me if I am wrong); and, since use of the adapter does not allow <audio> pass thru . . .
I am looking for a Video Card (with comparable performance) which uses a <Standard size DP and HDMI port> in order to directly connect to other monitors of my choice (without using an adapter).
Does anyone have recommendations, or corrections of what I describe?

  • I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
?Is there any Apple TV HDMI port voltage?
When using a HDMI auto switch to connect two devices to a HDMI TV, the
Auto switch cable box only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.
Do you know of any other solutions? Componets? Actual expierances?
    Full text below.
Cable : HDMI switches expand the number of available HDMI ports on a high definition television allowing connection of cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and game consoles. A side benefit is that cable clutter is also eliminated by running a single HDMI cable to your HDTV from a switch and relocating the HDMI ports to a concealed location. The problem with most HDMI switches is that you have to either get up to push a button, or hunt for the remote control, to switch sources. The true mark of any great switching component is an ability to perform its function and remain transparent in its operation. This automatic HDMI switch is a plug-and-play away from offering everything you are looking for in an HDMI switch. Select a single output from up to three devices for signal delivery to your HDTV. Smart operation provides complete control for connect-and-forget operation. Powering on a device gives it output priority over the other devices. By powering down the device in use, output priority is returned to the last powered on device. Note: Auto switch function only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.

  • I have an Pioneer HD TV, but it does not have the HDMI port and it only has a USB connection?  Can I still hook up my Apple TV to my TV?

I just got an Apple TV (the newest black one) and I have an older Pioneer HD TV.  I noticed that I don't have a HDMI port on the TV and only a USB connection.  My question is, can I still hook up the AppleTV to my TV with other connection wires and will it still allow me to use my ITunes music, photos and Netflix with the same picture and sound quality?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV will not work over USB, the only type of connection supported is HDMI.

  • Connecting G4 Sawtooth to HDTV Without VGA Port

My new TV does not have a VGA port, but I'd like to hook my G4 up to it for use as a monitor. I've seen several DVI or VGA to Component video adapters online, but do these work? Should I go with a VGA to Composite adapter?

For audio without HDMI you'll need to use the optical audio output on the Apple TV 2 (ATV2). If your TV or stereo receiver doesn't have an optical INPUT you'll have to get a D-to-A converter box that accepts an optical input and outputs a stereo RCA audio signal (you can find such adapters on the internet, they may run around $30 U.S.). For your TV, make certain that it is an optical INPUT, many TVs only come with optical outputs.
In any case, you also need to be aware that the ATV2 is designed to work over HDMI and even though it may function using an HDMI-to-DVI adapter there is no absolute guarantee that it will work without issues. First off, you need to make certain that the DVI port on your TV supports HDCP copy protection and it needs to support it well (some DVI devices may say that they support HDCP but not all of those devices are created equal and HDCP can be a "real bag of hurt," it can be very finicky).

  • Older HD tvs and HDMI

I have a 2 year old JVC HD TV and the HDMI port doesn't seem to work with with any of my apple products. Called JVC and they don't cop to anything. They say they have never tried to hook-up any Apple stuff yet. I have noticed some other info of similar problems the older HDMI ports with home entertainment systems. Right now I am using component cables and plan to try HDMI to DVI to VGA port on JVC. Is there any other way to use HDMI with older HD TVs? The JVC is seeing something there on HDMI but seems to be having a resolution issue that prevents video. I will have to check to see if audio is working today, for some reason I think it is. Am I loosing any HD quality with my component or DVI to VGA work around ?

JVC may be passing the buck here. HDMI is HDMI regardless of who's equipment you are using, v 1.3 is backwards compatible with earlier versions. The only question you need to consider is whether the HDMI on your tv has HDCP, virtually all do but not all. If JVC haven't added HDCP support to HDMI then I'm afraid it won't work.
Unfortunately, your alternative suggestions are even less likely to work since DVI quite regularly has no HDCP support.
I'd confirm with JVC whether your HDMI connection has HDCP support and if so I'd be asking them to fix things, although that may be a little difficult after 2 years. I'd also ask them about DVI and HDCP, I suppose there is is the chance that they made both HDMI and DVI HDCP compliant and that you simply have a broken HDMI card.

  • VGA and HDMI ports are next to each other; any VGA cable blocks HDMI port; want 3 displays.

The VGA & HDMI ports are right next to each other on the left side of the laptop.  I ultimately would like to connect two monitors to it, but am unable to occupy both ports because the everyday end of a VGA cable/extender is too wide. Any solutions?

Hi, Firstly you won't get 3 displays without buying more hardware for your dv7 that why you won't be able to plug 2 ports at the same time. Regards.
