Older Scanner with newer iMac?

I had an iMac G3 w/ OS 8.6. My wife bought me a scanner but it only worked with OS 9. When I upgraded to an iMac G5 OS 10.4 the scanner still won't work.(guess I jumped a generation) The company that makes the scanner (Mustek) doesn't make drivers for OS10. Any workaround or should I just move into the modern age and buy a new scanner...

Sorry, there is no work-a-round. If the manufacturer does not make any drivers for Tiger then you will have no alternative but to purchase a scanner that is compatible w/your current OS system & hopefully beyond.

  • Using new trackpad with new iMac

Using new trackpad with new iMac, but can't seem to get the "touch function" to work. I still have to press firmly and click on the trackpad to get response. The videos show "touch" while I  "firm press and click."  Checked speed, cleaned it, and reset. No luck?? Ideas? Even took back to Best Buy and seemed to work with their display...

Assuming you are talking about tap to click, you would need to enable it. It is disabled by default. Go to settings and choose trackpad settings. Navigate to "Point and Click" tab and enable "Tap to Click".

  • Can't get old scanner to work with new iMAC

I have an old scanner, Epson Perfection 4870 Photo that I can't get my new iMAC to install in PSE6 like I've had in my older computers. I've installed all the software (plus I used my old laptop to transfer files/information when I initially started the new iMAC. When I go into PSE6 it is not under the import area that it used to be. Do I need to go manually drag the file in the hard drive to another folder? Thank you.

Most likely the problem is with the driver. I have the same scanner at work and this is what I had to do to get it to work. Because you are running PSE6 which is a Universal Application on an Intel Mac, in order for the plugin to load within PSE it must also be a Universal plugin which it's not. Epson claims these drivers that were released in 2006 are Intel and 10.5 compatible. What you have to do to get it to work is Open up Epson Scan Utility in order to scan because the Scan Utility will run as a PPC Application. You can call Epson to confirm but if they try and tell you how to run PSE in Rosetta that is not a good solution.

  • IPod no longer works with Older iMac (works with new iMac)

    Hi all:
First off sorry about the cross post but I got no response to this question in the other forum. Hoping for help from this group. Thanks!!!!
I have an iMac Duo (20" 2.0Ghz) running 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.1 which recognizes my 5g (and my wife's 4g) no problem. However when I attach either of them to my G3 (G3 500 MHz) running 10.2.8 (iTunes 6.0.5) they are not recognized.
I believe that the 5G won't work because the G3 does not have USB 2. However, I do not understand why the 4G does not work.
The 4G worked with the G3 for about 2 years. I have not tried to attach it to the G3 since we bought new computers (iMac for me, MacBook Pro for her) until today. I wanted to use it to transfer some files from the G3 to the new iMac.
I have tried forcing the 4G into disk mode and connecting it to the G3 but that did not help (I tried this with the 5G also).
I am using a USB cable with the 5G and a firewire cable with the 4G.
According to software update all of the computers are 100% current.
Thanks for any and all help!
    Gary

I'm no geek but I can say that my 5G video iPod works just fine with my B&W G3 (450Mhz processor), which I am pretty sure only has USB 1. My G3 is running iTunes 7 and OS 10.4.5. Updating may solve your problem.

  • External DVI monitor not working with new iMac 27"

I recently purchases a 27" iMac and i'm trying to get it working with a 3rd party DVI external monitor. I got the Apple mini display port (thunderbolt) to DVI adapter and connected everything via a new DVI-D cable. The iMac detects there is a monitor and even shows the display as it should.. however, the monitor has a large amount of static/snow/noise (red coloured), so much so that the monitor is unusable. There is also a considerable amount of flickering.
The monitor works fine when connected to a Mac Mini with the Mini DVI - DVI adapter, (old set up) so I know the monitor's connection is not faulty.
Also, the monitor connects fine to the iMac when using a mini display - VGA adapter. The problem really seems to be with the combonation of DVI cable and adapter.
Has anyone had any experiences with DVI monitors connected to new iMacs via the thunderbolt port?
(System: iMac 27" 2011, 3.4GHz i7, 16GB RAM, Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB. All system updates installed, running OSX 10.7.2)

I think that your assessment is right, the ATI must be on for DVI to work (so far I've only tested with an older T61p and the Quadro graphics are always running).  Can't you set the machine so that when docked the ATI is used, but on battery the internal video is used? That would be what I would try.

  • Isub not working with new imac

the help menu is telling me to make sure that the isub is plugged in, and then to make certain it is selected under sound preferences... the only problem is that the imac is not picking up that the usb is even plugged in- there is no isub option that comes up on the sound preferences.
the isub works fine on my older mac, but just is not being read on the new one. any guesses other than my old isub is obsolete with my new imac?
    thanks
    -pd

The iSub is sweet! It's the best sub I've ever had! There's no reason for it to NOT work with the new Macs. It's a bummer. I still have my iSub, maybe they'll start supporting it again someday.

  • Exporting mailboxes from older emac to new imac

How do I transfer the many mailboxes I have set up to sort my email in mail from an old emac to a new imac. I currently connect using earthlink and when I opened the email in the new Imac the inbox came over, but none of my downloaded mailboxes or older emails came. Where does the emac store these files?
emac and imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

An Earthlink account is a POP account so messages available in the account's Inbox at the server will be downloaded only when creating the email account with Mail or another email client such as Mail on another computer.
User created "On My Mac" location mailboxes created in Mail are stored locally on the hard drive and although you used these many mailboxes created in Mail on your old eMac to sort/store messages received by your Earthlink account, these mailboxes have no association with the account at the incoming mail server level for Earthlink so will not be automatically created when creating your Earthlink account in Mail on your new Mac.
Since you did not use the Migration Assistant, you need to use the Import Mailboxes feature in Mail on your new Mac to import these user created mailboxes from Mail on your old Mac. All imported mailboxes will be placed in an Import folder that is created automatically by Mail and this process will not create these "On My Mac" location mailboxes that you created on your old Mac.

  • Syncing IPodTouch with new iMac

I have had an iPod Touch for about a month and a week ago I got a new iMac. Without thinking I synced it with the new machine and things began to happen. I lost my upgrade, but have got it back thanks to Apple Care help. I do not have all my photos and some music. Many of my songs won't come over. Same with photos. If anyone has a suggestion, I would be very thankful. It synced just great on the g4 power book. I think therein lies the rub, but don't know what to do about it.
    Jerry

Only using third party software can you transfer photos, videos and music off an iPod (the exception to this rule is iTunes Store purchased content). I recommend that you use Firewire Target Disk Mode to migrate your iPhoto and iTunes libraries from your older Powerbook to the new iMac:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Remember to consolidate the iTunes library before copying it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Harman Kardon Soundsticks not sounding with new iMac

I have the original Harman Kardon Soundsticks, which have worked beautifully since the early 2000s, till this new iMac - they're not showing up as an output source in Sound Preference.  I've contacted both Applecare Support - no idea - and Harman Kardon - Apple isn't supplying the drivers anymore.  The thing is, they played just fine with the older iMac just replaced, which was running MacOS 10.7.2.  Drivers are software, right?  Were they just dropped from the OS with this last update, or is there a hardware issue?  The older iMac was a 24", Intel, that I bought in April, 2007.
Anyway, this is very disappointing since the Soundsticks have excellent sound and still work.
Is there a way to get the drivers, or is there also a hardware component?
    Thanks!

Ok, here's what happened in the end.  As I was dismantling the Soundsticks system from my computer and desk area, I discovered that the plug going into the Harmon Kardon power block from the electrical plug was loose.  Aha !!!!  I realized - loose plug!  Let's try again.  And, I did, after ensuring that all other plugs were also snug in their sockets.  And, yes, the Soundsticks have been doing just fine ever since : )
Ok, re. plugs.  There's a cord that runs from the subwoofer to the power block, and it's solid.  Then on the other end of the block is a cable that plugs into the block on one end and the wall on the other.  It was the plug into the block that was lose, and I didn't realize it ' cause it was under the desk, nor did I recall that it could separate from the block.
I was so thankful that the solution ended up being so simple!  . . . and so glad to be able to continue to use that sound system.

  • Classic iPod does not appear compatible with newer iMac.

I have a fairly new iMac with iTunes. I am trying to sync an older version iPod Classic to iTunes on my iMac.  Everytime I plug into the iPod USB port, I get a warning window that states: Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
I then need to select OK.  I don't have any other USB ports connected.  And I am unable to sync the iPod.
I have all the latest and greatest updates, versions, etc.  Are the older iPods just not compatible with iMac?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

  • Can I use old Mac Pro with new iMac?

I have a Mac Pro (Pre 2007) running on 10.6.8 that is ok for now, but experiencing some degradation in performance. I have 4 drive bays full and memory maxed out. I am looking for a desktop solution that would allow the option to have the latest OSX (such as the latest iMac) and access this old Mac Pro still. Is this possible?
If so, what are some of the caveats?
SoftwareEx: CS6 is compatible with new OSX, but will files saved on new computer still be accessible on old computer?
    Access to files
NetworkCurrently using older version of Airport Extreme for home office setup
Any insights would be helpful! I hate the thought of this old workhorse turning into nothing more than an external hard drive, but it is not upgradable to the new operating system.

It sounds like what you want to do is create a simple peer network so you can use the Mac Pro as a storage unit.
This is easy to do, just connect the two with an ethernet cable and log on using the logon and password for the system you want to access. In the general case, this is a bad idea since you you have unrestricted access but you own both machines so security is a very low priority.
    Caveats:
The OS version will determine what apps a machine can run.
Data is just data as long as both systems use HSF+ or some other common file system.
Airport may or may not work... but a hard wire will always get it done and transfers data a lot faster.
You almost never get to have it ALL your way when mixing generations of systems, but if you keep it simple it works well. I've had a peer network with 4-6 systems running in my house since the turn of the century. Most Macs support 1000 baseT (gigabit ether) so data transfers up to 80-90MB/sec are easy.

  • 1st Generation iPod (5GB) not working with new iMac

    Hi,
i have the Problem, that my 1st generation iPod is not detected by my new imac (20'' 2,4 Ghz). When i plug in the firewire cable, nothing happens. DiscUtility sees no disc at all.
But when i plug in the iPod "behind" another Firewire disc (acting as a fw-hub), the iPod ist detected within a second, and everything works fine.
I just wanted to know if someone else is having this Problem, or if someone else has a working iPod 1.Gen on the new iMac.
    Thanks
    Joerg

    Hi JvdL,
I am one with a 1st gen iPod (Windows, 10GB).
But I have no problems with it and I also don't have a last gen. iMac.
However, in the iPod Forum http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=151 and in the iTunes Forum http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=149&start=0#threads there are quite some threads with similar problems.
    Sorry

  • Problems with new iMac and Adobe Creative Suite 2

Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I am a Graphic Design student and just bought Adobe Creative Suite2. I installed it on my new iMac, and it wouldn't open InDesign or Photoshop although I had no problems with Acrobat and Illustrator. A pop-up window stated that the program "unexpectedly quit". I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and was on hold with Adobe Tech Support for three hours until I finally gave up. If anyone knows what's going on I would appreciate it!

I dragged the installer from the install disk to my desktop and was more successful in installing problem CS2 apps. Make sure to update everything as well. Some times it takes a restart to get the finickiness out of PS.
