Older version ipod issue re: ipod format
A friend of mine has been given an older ipod (one of the original ones with the rotating wheel and NO dock connector, instead it has a fire wire outlet connector)
my problem is that this ipod is formatted for mac, and she has a windows computer. we dont have the software for reformatting (the software that was included in the original purchase from apple), and to add insult to injury, apple does not have the software available for download online as per this webpage... http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61671 ...
any ideas on where this software can be dowloaded from? or if apple has this software for purchase?

First, download iTunes and install it on the computer.
Next, download the iPod Software 1.2.6 for first and second generation iPod (Windows) and install it on the computer. Run the iPod software updater, then connect the iPod and choose restore to convert the iPod to Windows format.
Then download the latest version of the iPod software updater, install it on the computer and connect the iPod. Choose update to update the iPod to version 1.5.
Now, if all goes well, the iPod can be used under Windows. Make sure, however, that the Windows PC has a Firewire port as the iPod can only connect via a Firewire port. If the PC does not have a Firewire port, I recommend the Adaptec Fireconnect 4300 for desktop PCs.

There isn't an Apple-supported way of downgrading app versions for use on an old iPod touch. You'll have to get an iPod touch 5th gen.

I have 2 versions of Adobe XI pro on my computer, can I remove the older version without issues??

I personally removed elder versions without any problems. Sometimes I let them in a parallel mode, to see the differences.

Downloading OLDER version of ipod software
Does anyone know how to safely change back to a previous version of IPOD software? I allowed my itunes version and ipod software to update a couple of weeks ago and have had trouble since. Someone told me to go back a version, but the problem is my ipod, not itunes. At least, I believe this b/c the files play fine in Itunes, but mess up on my Ipod. So, if anyone knows how to safely revert ipod software, please let me know. Thank you!

The only difference is that an older version of the iPod software would get installed after the iPod is erased. If you have not tried using Restore with the most current iTunes, you should definitely try that first.
If you read about people having problems after a Restore, it is likely because they are having hardware problems with their iPod. In those cases (hardware issue), doing a Restore is not going to resolve the problem. However, in most cases, it is a software issue and doing a Restore will resolve the problem. When it works, almost no one bothers to post in the forum that +they did a Restore and it worked+, so you don't read about the times when it worked, only about the times when it did not work. And when it does not work, it's probably due to a hardware problem.
The other problem reported often is with the 4th gen iPod (click wheel). That model needs to be plugged into the power adapter as the last step of the Restore process. Some second-hand owners don't have a power adapter (it comes with that iPod model), so the first time they need to do a Restore, they are stuck and their iPod is bricked. -
I have an older ipod...ever since I updated the itunes software my ipod no longer works in my car. my car is a 2013 mercedes E350. Is there a way to go back to an older version of the itunes software?
If it's an older iPod, its software is not being updated by Apple. So, I don't see how updating iTunes would make the iPod not work with the car's audio system, since iTunes just updates the song files (not how the iPod operates).
Does the iPod work by itself (play songs), when disconnected from the computer and iTunes? -
My app store won't let me download none of the older versions of apps for my ipod touch 2g.
My app store won't let me download any of the older versions of an app, but in my sisters case she can and she has an ipod touch 2g just like me. She was able to download kik, twitter, instagram, and some more apps that told me I had to have ios 4.3.1 or higher to download. and theres only one app I want and its kik, can someone help me figure out whats wrong with my app store, it would be a great help.

Can I get an older version of Netflix on my ipod touch 2nd generation?
I had netflix on my ipod before but i had to delete itunes to update my computer......along with itunes my version of netflix (2.2.1) was deleted. My ipod was also restored because "it was synced to another itunes library". Itunes was recently updated and it now requries ios5, which my2nd generation ipod touch cannot get. It is running on 4.2.1 now. I was wondering if there was anyway that I could get an older version of netflix through apple, so it can be on my ipod once again!
You should always maintain a backup copy of your computer and should certainly make sure that you have backed up before updating your computer or any other software.
If you failed to do this, then there is no way to get an older version.

Last weekend I was able to download an earlier version of Snapchat from iTunes without any problems.
I now won't let me download Snapchat at all, saying it needs IOS 7.
Why is it doing this and how can I download an earlier version of Snapchat onto my iPod again?

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port

I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums.

The latest iTunes software wiped out my apps for my 2G iPod Touch by overwriting newer releases of the apps which are not compatible with iOS 4.2.1. I tried to restore the iPod to an earlier version without success. Is there any way to download older versions of my apps which are compatible with my older iPod?
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
