Older version of InDesign

My client is waiting for her company to upgrade to CS4 in the meantime we need to work on a project in her CS. An old school version 3. I've looked through the forum for solutions on back saving files etc, but nothing seems to be working. Where can I find an old version of CS? A trial or demo would be preferred. Any ideas on how to solve this problem. Cheaply.
thanks in advance.

On behalf of Adobe ...
Adobe absolutely does not monitor Adobe products sold on eBay. Make no assumptions as to whether Adobe-branded products sold on eBay are legal or not. What is true is that there is indeed quite a bit of illegal (pirated, cracked, previously registered and subsequently upgraded but not eligible for license transfer) Adobe software hawked on eBay.
Per Mark Hebert's admonition, you need to do due diligence in validating that what you are purchasing on-line is indeed "kosher" for sale (or resale if previously used).
Contrary to a number of other software developers, Adobe has absolutely no problem with valid resale and transfer of software licenses for its products where such license transfer is permitted. In fact, it readily provides information and forms for such transfers via its websites. Academic/student licenses are definitely not transferable. Licenses of products that have already been used as the basis for an upgrade to either another Adobe product (such as from Photoshop to a copy of one of the Creative Suite versions) or the next version of the same product cannot be transfered. Likewise, a purchaser of a quantity/bulk license of an Adobe product cannot unbundle such a license into individual licenses for resale.
With regards to Mark's comments that "anything sold outside of resellers channels seems to be illegal these days," we most seriously challenge that assertion! Yes, we do go after those who sell pirated and cracked software, academic/student software to persons who don't so-qualify to purchase such academic/student versions, or those who attempt to illegally unbundle bulk licenses (and much of that "pursuit" is due to complaints from those customers who were "had" by such vendors!). We don't in any way harrass anyone buying or selling legitimate software outside the official resellers channels!

  • Can I buy and older version of Indesign

    Hi
The latest version of Indesign is to expensive for me. Could I buy an older version somewhere?
    Thanks for your response
    Elisabeth

You can try Amazon or other third party retailers - but be sure to check they are a valid Adobe retailer as there are scam sites out there.
Also - if you're a student you can get the Student and Teacher Price which is a lot cheaper than the full version, however the EULA stipulates different uses for commercial and private use depending on your locale - check the EULA before purchasing if you intend to use it commercially.
InDesign Creative Cloud is also available - it's a pay per month or an annual subscription.
And you don't have to get the entire suite you can get just InDesign for a small fee for a month, or subscribe for a small fee for the year.

  • How can I work in older versions of Indesign (cs4)

I own Indesign cs6 but have a client who uses cs4. (saving to idml is problematic so am trying to figure out a way to solve this) I will upgrade to CC soon but I understand that it will not allow me to use older versions. I have downloaded a trial cs4 for now, but when it runs out what can I do? My client doesn't need to upgrade so I doubt they will. I don't suppose my cs6 serial number will work at the end of the cs4 trial or will it? Seems like there should be some way to do this if I have bought later versions but signs point to no. any thoughts? thanks. L

Why is it problematic to save to IDML? That's the only solution I know.

  • Is there an export epub plugin for older versions of Indesign (CS1)?

I'm looking for a program that can create epub files. Several sources said that InDesign can do it, but the version of InDesign I have predates the existence of epub files. It's the very first version of the creative suite (which I think was the third iteration of InDesign). Most of the plugins I've found on the Adobe site are for CS5 or later. Am I just missing the place for the download or is there no way I can make the old version create epub files? (I would be happy with a third party plugin as well.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

If you don't have a recent version of InDesign, which IS required to create EPUB files, you can create them from Microsoft Word. Elizabeth Castro covers creating EPUB from Word in "EPUB Straight to the Point" which you can find here:

  • How do I save InDesign in an Older version?

I am working with a partner who has an older version of InDesign and cannot open my files, How do I save mine as an older version so that he can work with them?
    Thanks inadvance, Linda

What versions are involved? You'll have to export to Interchange format, but whethr you can do it only once, or if yo have to open and re-xport in all intervening versions depends on waht both of you are using.
This is not a great workflow for collaboration, expecially if you use any advanced features in your version that are not supported in theirs. Those will be lost entirely. There is a significant risk of text reflowing and changing line endings, too.

  • Have subscription to current versions of indesign and photoshop, lost a laptop, need older versions

A couple of weeks back, I purchased subscriptions to Indesign and Photoshop, to use on a cutting edge mac laptop.
Then I lost the laptop. I have a police report if you'd like to see it.
Now I'm back running my older mac, with os x 10.5.8 on it. I've got a 10.6 snow leopard disc on the way.
I'd like to be able to download older versions of Indesign and Photoshop.
Even if they're 30-day trials, they'd be helpful, as I've got a project I'm working on I'd like to finish.
    Thanks!

You won't get a call from an Adobe employee unless you call them first, and probably not then (the call-back track record is pretty poor). Nobody who is participating in this thread so far works for Adobe, by the way. We're just volunteer users doing our best to help others like you. We do know the current state of licensing and program availability, however, and the information you are getting is correct. Adobe has a price structure, including a few incentives for users of previous versions which don't happen to help you unless you upgrade your OS so you can run the CC subscription versions, and they are not going to change the pricing to make you, or me, or anyone else happy.
I'm sure you can probably find a version of CS3 for sale on the aftermarket, but be very careful. Most of the early version offers are either counterfeit or cannot be registered because they are not eligible for transfer being either education versions or part of the original owner's upgrade chain.

  • How do I open a pdf created in an earlier version of indesign?

I created a bunch of .pdf's in an older version of Indesign (about 2 years ago) and the new version will not open them. Should I be using a different Adobe product to edit the .pdfs They are fill in the blank forms for use in the office.
    thx
    David

The process it you create the forms in InDesign (CS6/CC), with enabled fields; export it to PDF interactive; you can then fine tune the PDF in Acrobat Pro, then you enable the form so that users can enter data on the form, save it, email it, or print it out. Once the form is enabled to allow users to be able to enter data, it can't be changed. You should always keep a copy of the original InDesign/ Acrobat form.

  • Problem with imported pdfs from older version

I'm working in CS4. The InDesign document I'm working on was originally done in an older version of InDesign (not sure which). It contains imported pdfs that were created in CS2 and CS3. When I export to pdf the older imported pdfs don't display properly on my client's PC - the type is not there, only boxes with question marks - but the pdf looks fine on my screen. I upgraded from CS2 to CS4. The only way I've gotten around this is to export the CS4 InDesign document as an .INX file, have a friend open it up in CS3 and save down to an .INX file again, open the doc up in CS2, create the pdf from CS2, and open it in the older version of Acrobat. Then my client sees the type clearly on their PC
I'm using Suitcase (thought it was a font issue, but I don't think so now as the fix seemed to be between the CS versions.
Anyone else have this problem and/or a better solution? I'd like to be able to simply export a pdf and be done with it.
    Thanks!

    Thats it thank you!
There was a text wrap applied to all the graphics. its working perfectly now!!
    Thank you again!!!

  • Windows file association to correct version of InDesign.

I support customers using older versions of InDesign: CS3 and CS4. I have both installed on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop. Depending on which version a document was saved with, there is a different icon associated with the file. That tells me that Windows does in fact recognize a difference between the files. Double-clicking any InDesign document in an explorer window always opens the file in CS4 -- regardless of which version the document was saved as. Is there a way to "inform" Windows to launch the correct version of InDesign to access any given document?

  • I have InDesign CS 5.5 and my printer does not - can I save it as an older version

I made a document using InDesign 5.5 and sent it as a packaged InDesign file to a printer who cannot open it. Is there a way for me to save it as an older version so I can send it to them?
    Thanks

Is there definitely no other solution?  I am having the same problem and I know a pdf is great for print ready documents, but I am an Indesign beginner and need to send a version of my document that my printer can work on.  Will they be able to work on an .idml file?

  • Will Lightroom and Photoshop CC work with Indesign/Illustrator/etc from older versions of CS installed on my Mac?

if I subscribe to the Photo plan, will Lightroom and Photoshop CC output work with Indesign/Illustrator/etc from older versions of CS installed on my Mac?

I currently have premiere cs4 and cs5 installed and have had no problems. I have noted on the forums here that some people were reporting problems. So the only way to realy know is make the plunge. I'm running win 7 pro.

  • InDesign CS6 has the same problem of older versions HWNDBasedPanelView UID:410841

    Hi all,
I have had the same problem with InDesign CS5.
When InDesign starts it opens two windows as shown in the screenshoot.
The only way I know to solve the problem is deleting the InDesign preferences.
But why I should have the same problem with a new version of InDesign
    Tks

My guess would be that whatever is corrupting the prefs is external to ID itself.

  • How do I find and install an older version of Adobe Media Encoder (Mac)?

I am currently trialing Adobe InDesign on my Mac (Snow Leopard).
I was unable to open the installed version of AME (7.0.0). I updated to 7.0.1 via this page http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=Macintosh&product=160 but AME still wouldn't open.
As I understand it AME version 7 is only compatible with Mac OS 10.7 or higher, which would explain why it isn't opening.
Is it possible to download an older version of AME that would be compatible with Max OS 10.6.8? And if so, where do I find it? (The page above appears to have only update files.)

    > Is it possible to download an older version of AME that would be compatible with Max OS 10.6.8?
Yes. You can use Adobe Media Encoder CS6, which comes with such applications as InDesign CS6.

  • InDesign CS6 can't read EPS files from earlier version of InDesign

I have a series of six violin method books (Kaleidoscopes for Violin) that I created in InDesign CS2.
Having now upgraded to InDesign CS6, all of the EPS files used in these books -- hundreds and hundreds of files -- are unreadable by the program.  I receive the error message, "Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again."
Another user, ratgui, reported this problem on February 2, 2013 (two months ago) and has received no response.  This user's files are also music files, imported from InDesign CS4 (more recent than mine).
Needless to say, there is nothing wrong with my EPS files, given that every single one of them was read correctly (and is still read correctly) by the older, supposedly less-advanced version of InDesign!  The only work-around currently is to save each image in PNG format (luckily Sibelius exports to PNG).  For 600-800 files, this represents three or four full days of unnecessary work, and will double the number of images on my hard drive.
The EPS issue is a remarkably serious flaw in a software package that costs many hundreds of dollars, especially given that I posted the same problem in response to the release of InDesign CS5.  A response (and, I daresay, a software update that fixes the problem) would be greatly appreciated.
As a side note to the developers -- it is super, duper cumbersome that this error arises in a separate pop-up box for EVERY affected image.  These pop-up boxes must be dismissed one at a time.  Worse yet, once you have dismissed the error message for a given image, the message appears AGAIN if you return to the same page!!  This unnecessary hassle makes it impossible to even work with the underlying document.  Placing the error message in the links palette would save a great deal of headache.  It is fairly obvious that the images aren't being read properly ... they all appears as gray boxes.
    Thanks!!

    Hi Peter
Many thanks for your advice; I re-defined the printer presets and now it works fine.
