Older version of iPod updater?

Everytime I turn on my iPod it tells me to go to apple.com/support
So from there I decided to restore my iPod.
So while trying to restore my iPod I got an Internal Manager Error and I found this article,
( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301907 )
about it and I've done everything it says but it doesn't tell me where I can find an older iPod updater or which one I might need to use.

Searching in the downloads on the keywords 'iPod updater windows' resulted in 4 links:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060628.html
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060323.html
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060110.html
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20051117.html
Can't tell you which one to use.
I would try the oldest one (20051117) first.

  • Older versions of Apple Updater and Bonjour can not be deleted

I sent back my 1st Gen. Nano on recall. I then tried to sync the new 6th Gen. Nano to my iTunes 9.0. iTunes said I had to upgrade to iTunes 10.... When I tried to upgrade I got a message saying older versions of Apple updater and Bonjour could not be deleted. Also said something about Apple Software msi.dll not found.
Going through the online Apple support procedures I was told to delete iTunes, which I did. It is now gone although I think it is in "My Music" but I don't know how to get it back to where it was.
I called support and talked to a Asian Lady who spoke poor English and talked VERY fast. As I am 76 and hard of hear, which I told her at the begining, it was hard to talk with her. She told me I had no warrantee service available to me. I told her that the replacement Nano had a 90 day warrantee, which it does. I told her I felt if Apple was providing me with a replacement that required software updates to function in iTunes then their software to download the latest iTunes should contain whatever it needs to do so. SHE HUNGUP on me!!!!!!
Now my question to you folks, how do I retrieve iTunes from the "My Music" location?
And how do I do/get whatever I need to upgrade iTunes?
Please speck like you are talking to an idiot as I am pretty dense on this.
I did follow Apples on line procedures and this is the mess I'm in.
    Many thanks, Bill

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?

  • Cannot remove older version of Apple Update to reinstall Itunes, tried control panel, no help, what do I do

Message: "Cannot remove older version of Apple Update" when trying to reinstall Itunes. Tried using add remove programs in control panel, no help. Tried installing new quicktime, same message -- what do I do to get Itunes working again on my computer, using Windows xp

I'm glad I put a smile on your face Stuff like this can drive me nuts.
As I went to bed last night, I thought the same thing as you, to try a system restore. Otherwise, to answer the rest of your question, in XP, the location of the Update is in your Program Files/Apple Software Update.
To find the hidden files that may be stopping you from disabling the updater, and doing a clean install, go to:
My Computer, and on the Menu bar, click Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden Files and Folders/click Apply/OK then double click on your main drive (C:)  then Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/ and delete the Apple computer folder with it iTunes and Preferences.
Also in that previous views Local Settings/Application Data/Apple (Update Software)and also Apple Computer/iTunes.
Go back to Documents and Settings (again from C: drive mode) click on All Users/Application Data/Apple and if you open up Installer Cache, you will also see that it has an Apple Updater in it (unless it was uninstalled on the original uninstall). Also from that Application Data window, you will see Apple Computer Folder which has previous iTunes info that needs to be deleted. Some of these folders may be gone, but at least you can check to see, to make sure.
Here is a link from another post, to confirm or help clear up any of my paths/solutions.
When you've done all that, restart your PC, and I would run CCleaner  (the free version links are just below the Buy and Download button) just to clean things up, and try your re-install.
    Hope I didn't overwhelm you.

  • Older Version showing on updated install

Since 11.0.06, when upgrading, Run Advertised Programs shows the "Display Name" as the latest version, but the "Version" as the pre-existing version.
AcroRD32.exe also shows the older version, and, subsequently, when opening Reader, it is the older version.
    The update is running successfully.
I have tried un-installing the older version using the Adobe Product removal tool, but still get this issue.
This has happened on 11.0.07, 11.0.08 and now 11.0.09
    Any ideas?

I cannot explain what is happening, but I would suggest to uninstall Reader, then do a fresh install of 11.0.09.

  • I need iTunes 5 and 2nd latest version of iPod Updater

I need the download of iTunes 5 which I found no results. If anyone has, could you kindly tell me the link? I don't want the latest version of iPod Updater, but the next one before the latest version.
I need to solve my problem asap.

    Gabriel,
Gonna be tough to find iTunes 5 when there's now iTunes 6. You don't want 6??
When it comes to the iPod Updater, the version before the latest is 9-25-2005 (or something like that).
How come you don't want the latest versions? Looks like the ones you want are not around any more.

  • Previous versions of iPod Updater

Is it possible for me to remove previous versions of iPod Updater?
I have 3 or 4 versions dating back to 2004.

I am in "add or remove programs" I have 3 programs named
    iPod for Windows 2005-1-11
    iPod for Windows 2005-10-12
    iPod for Windows 2006-3-23
Can they be removed as well?

  • How Do I Remove Older Versions of iPod for Windows

According to my Add/Remove Programs utility I have iPod for Windows versions 3.8, 4.3, and 4.7 installed on my PC. It appears that these older versions take up quite a bit of memory; however, I am hesitant to try to remove these older versions using this utility because I am afraid of wreaking some sort of irreversible havoc.
    Anybody know about this?

If you are running the latest version of iTunes (7.1.1.5), then I believe that removing these past versions of iPod software off your computer shouldn't be a problem at all (since now iTunes 7 does not need a standalone iPod updater application).
To install the latest version of iTunes, see this download page:
    Download iTunes - 7.1.1.5
Or, if you don't want to download the latest version of iTunes, just delete the previous versions of iPod software (like 3.8 and 4.3), and keep the latest one on your computer.

  • Older versions of Ipod for Windows

IN looking at my add/remove menu in windows, I have eight versions of "Ipod for Windows" with various dates. Is it safe to uninstall the older versions?

Yes it is, the iPod updater was integrated with iTunes when version 7 was released. As a back up, you might want to keep the last one in case you ever needed it but dispose of the rest, they are just taking up space.

  • Downloading OLDER version of ipod software

Does anyone know how to safely change back to a previous version of IPOD software? I allowed my itunes version and ipod software to update a couple of weeks ago and have had trouble since. Someone told me to go back a version, but the problem is my ipod, not itunes. At least, I believe this b/c the files play fine in Itunes, but mess up on my Ipod. So, if anyone knows how to safely revert ipod software, please let me know. Thank you!
PS -- my IPOD is the 80 gig video, if that helps. Thanks.

The process for changing it back to an older version of software would be the Restore process. The only difference is that an older version of the iPod software would get installed after the iPod is erased. If you have not tried using Restore with the most current iTunes, you should definitely try that first.
If you read about people having problems after a Restore, it is likely because they are having hardware problems with their iPod. In those cases (hardware issue), doing a Restore is not going to resolve the problem. However, in most cases, it is a software issue and doing a Restore will resolve the problem. When it works, almost no one bothers to post in the forum that +they did a Restore and it worked+, so you don't read about the times when it worked, only about the times when it did not work. And when it does not work, it's probably due to a hardware problem.
The other problem reported often is with the 4th gen iPod (click wheel). That model needs to be plugged into the power adapter as the last step of the Restore process. Some second-hand owners don't have a power adapter (it comes with that iPod model), so the first time they need to do a Restore, they are stuck and their iPod is bricked.

  • Can you remove old versions of iPod updater from your PC?

I was attempting to clean up my PC and remove unwanted software and I noticed in add/remove programs that all of the iPod updater versions I have ever installed are still on my PC even though I only need the latest version. I tried to remove the older versions and my PC won't let me. Can you remove the older updater versions from your PC and if so, how do I go about doing this without getting an error message?

It gives me an error transfer or something like that. There is no stand-alone uninstall - when you go through add/remove, the installshield starts and then I get that error. I was thinking about just deleting it via windows explorer but I don't want to create more problems. I just think it's silly to have it on my PC if it's never going to be used again.

  • Can I Delete Previous Versions of iPod Updater from my Powerbook?

    Hello,
I am running out of room (quickly!) on my harddrive of my Powerbook. So I decided to do some spring cleaning and delete old and unnecessary files and applications from my Powerbook.
I noticed under the Utilities section, there are about 6 versions of the "iPod Updater". Can I safely delete all prior versions (except the most recent) from my computer without any negative consequences? Will I still be able to use iTunes, my iPod, etc without problems? Are these old versions not needed?
The versions currently on my harddrive are:
    iPod Updater 2006-01-10
    iPod Updater 2005-03-23
    iPod Updater 2004-11-15
    iPod Updater 2004-08-06
    iPod Updater 2004-04-28
    iPod Software 2.1 Updater
    Thank you!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

If your iPod is working normally, you don't need to keep old versions of the iPod updater around; the most recent one should be kept. If you delete one of the updaters, it is safe to delete the accompanying receipt from the /Library/Receipts/ folder.

  • Latest version of iPod Updater for Windows (iPod mini)

Just received a replacement mini due to battery problems. I need to download iPod Updater to set the mini up for Windows XP, but I cannot find the appropriate version.
Can anyone help Or provide a link? TIA

  • How to revert to older version of ipod software

The latest 1.0.3 iPod upgrade screwed up my iPod. Some artists don't show up under the Artists, All Artists or Genre menus. I have to go under All Albums or All songs under a submenu to find them. In iTunes things are fine, and when I connect my iPod and browse the music on the iPod using iTunes, things are fine. It's only on the iPod things are screwed up. I've tried changing the MP3 tag information on the names, genre, etc. numerous times to no avail.
    And only since 1.0.3.
Is there a way to revert to the prior (I assume 1.0.2) version of iPod software? Resetting the iPod stupidly puts back 1.0.3 again. I don't see where I can download 1.0.2 or any iPod version anywhere.
    Raul

Well. go to http://spr33.co.uk/wp/archives/downgrading-apple-ipod-firmware-102-101 and dolwload the "iPod_24.1.0.1.ipsw" then press the shift button when clicking restore locat the file and then you are downgrading!
The problem is I could only find 1.0.1! I'm serching for 1.0.2 right now!

  • Need help with an older version of iPod Touch.

I recently received an older iPod Touch with version 4.2.1 on it.  When I tried to set it up for automatic downloads from my iTunes account, there is no listing under Settings for this OR to upgrade to a newer version.  Also, how do you tell what generation you have?

That is correct. You have a 2G iPod that can only go to iOS 4.2.1. Fpr automatic downloads you need iOS 4.3 or later.
