Older version of mac os x help

i havent used my computer in a while and it has version 10.1.5.. i used the software updater but it doesnt show a newer version does anyone know where i can download newer versions like 10.2.x ive looked but cant really find anything if anyone can helped thatd be great thanks.

OS 10.1.5 is the latest version you can update to for free. You will have to purchase any later version if you want it. 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4 are all paid upgrades. Without knowing what computer model you have, it is hard to suggest which one you should upgrade to. If your computer has a firewire port and a DVD drive, then I would suggest 10.4. If it doesn't have firewire support, then 10.3 would probably be your best bet. Be sure you have the latest firmware for your computer and a good backup before upgrading.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

DNG converter for older versions of MAC OS?

Hi,
I'm helping a friend who is happily using PS CS3 on a Mac with Lion or Lepard. I'm a PC person so I'm not sure what those two names mean. Anyway, he has a couple of newer cameras (a Sony and a Nikon) for which CS3 can't interpret the RAW files. As I understand, Adobe is not providing support in CS3 for new RAW files and my friend does not want to upgrade to a later version of Photoshop CS or CC. So, I suggested the free Adobe DNG converter.
In looking at the Adobe specs on the DNG copnverter, it says that it requires Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.8. So, two questions:
1) Is OS X 10.6 tru 10.8 the same as Lion or Lepard (I suspect not)
2) Is there an "older" version of the Adobe DNG converted I can have him download that is compatible with his OS and has (or can get) the code for recent cameras?

To answer the other part of your question, you can download older versions of the DNG Converter from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
The question is, though, what version of the DNG Converter is needed to handle the files. Since you didn’t specify the extract models of cameras, that is impossible to verify, yet.
You can look at this list of cameras and ACR version numbers to get an idea what the minimum DNG Converter download that would be needed to support them, and then check the system requirements of that particular DNGC version:

Finally, Adobe is still offering the PS-CCLR subscription for $10/month (in the US). It was supposed to expire on Dec 3rd, and then Dec 8th, but it’s still there, now without a specific expiration, but that doesn’t mean the offer won’t expire. $120/year for the PS-CCLR subscription is about as much as it used to cost to upgrade PS-non-extended every 18 months, so if your friend can afford $10/month they can have the latest PS and run it on up to two computers.

i downloaded lightroom 4 free trial a few months ago, and when i attempted to purchase the serial number i was only able to download lightroom 5, which my mac is too old for. is there a way to download the older version without having to pay again?

If you really want to download LR4 again, yes you can, but it will be the 30 day free trial, and if you have used up your 30 days on that computer, it won't run.

Can't run my app with older version of jre anymore. Help!

Java Web Start is supposed to allow applications to use older versions of Java JRE. My applet uses 1.6.0_31 because it doesn't work with 1.7. (Backward compatibility? Don't ask.)
When I first set it up a couple of weeks ago, it worked. Now, with JRE 1.7 officially released it does not. When I try to run it, I get the following message:

Looks to me like Cancel does not mean "Run Older Version". While I am debugging why I can't use the latest version of jre, can someone please tell me how to use the older version?

I'm the developer. And thank you for your prompt response. I have been given a work around so that the applet can use version 1.7. But that still doesn't explain what I am doing that makes Java fail to use the older version.
I put this code in my jnlp file on March 27th when I realized that my app didn't work with version 1.7. I tested it at that time and it worked. In the process I installed and uninstalled java 1.6.0_31 ( and 1.7) several times. Maybe something important got corrupted then.

Is it possible to install an older version of Mac software on a new Mac mini?

My wife just bought a new Mac mini that was Yosemite loaded. She struggles with font sizes and hopes we can end her frustration. I am still using Mountain Lion on my iMac and can easily adjust font size everywhere (all software, Safari, Firefox, etc.). Can we meet her Mac mini needs?

An older OS will not have the correct drivers for the new Mini. With Yosemite you can adjust the contrast, transparency and also pick "dark mode" which can help in readability. Look in preferences, accessibility and also general for those settings.

My MacBook Pro is running on an older version of Mac OS X but will not allow me to upgrade to a newer version

My MacBook Pro is running on a 10.5.8 operating system but has not allowed me to upgrade. It has been fine for the past few years but is now getting to the point where programs are not functioning properly. What operating system should I be trying to upgrade to and what should I do in order for the upgrade to work? I have tried upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard but it says that I need 10.6 in order to upgrade to Snow Leopard. The only upgrade that has begun to work has been a 10.5.6 which is a less updated version of the operating system that I'm already using. Will downloading 10.5.6 allow me to upgrade to a better version? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and if desired, open the Mac App Store, and try downloading 10.9. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.

Older versions of MAC OSX

Yes campers, Apple seems to be going the way of the "evil empire".
I have an old powerbook G4 running OSX v 10.3.9, bought an iPhone, downloaded the latest version of iTunes, but alas, I need 10.4 or higher.
Now this is not a big deal since I have a new iMAC. But doesnt it seem a little harsh that we cant use our iPhones on Panther?
Windows users can be as far back as 2000, I beleive, as long as they have the latest version of iTunes.
Hopefully Apple can work this out, or I will have to shell out ANOTHER stack of cash to be able to stay current while traveling with my powerbook.

Right or wrong - this Sys Requirement was in every FAQ I saw prior to the release of the iPhone, and is also on the iPhone box itself.
Apple will be coming out with a new OS in the Fall, so it doesn't surprise me that they didn't support the older OS (again, right or wrong). I doubt they will make it available to older operating systems (IMHO).
FWIW - I had to update my iBook when I bought the iPhone. But I knew that when I bought it.

Boot older version of mac as a second partition

Hi I'm running OS X Yosemite on my mac currently and want to make a partition so that I can boot OS X Lion. I have the InstallESD.dmg file and a 4.7GB re-writtable DVD that I've burnt it to and I have created the second partition ready for the operating system to be loaded onto. As far as I can tell, I just need to hold Alt while the mac restarts for me to select the DVD as the startup disk for the installation to start. When I click on the disk however, it just boots into the regular Yosemite startup disk. I want to install Lion from the disk I've created onto my second partition.
Any ideas?

It won't boot from the DVD. What you need to do is put it on an 8 GB USB flash drive properly partitioned and formatted for OS X.
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive. Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

Ok people after messing up three days with my jailbroken ipod touch cauze my itunes didn't recognize it i figured out that the problem is first windows recognized it as a imaging device o as a camera, i found in the device manager was listed mi apple ipod under portable devices and there was the problem it has to be listed under universal serial bus controllers named as a apple ipod so this is what i did but first make sure u have correctly installed itunes and the apple mobile device support:
1 open the device manager or windows button + r is run and then type devmgmt.msc
2 look for the portable devices and find the apple ipod or wherever that is listed on your pc.
3 once u find the apple ipod do a right click on it and click on uptade driver software
4 take the manualy opcion or browse on my computer and then look for this folder on your computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
there should be the driver that itunes recognize and your windows wont recognize your ipod as a camera again but i repeat u have to make sure u have installed the apple mobile device support u can get it by extracting the itunes+quicktime package using winrar. so click on update or next what ever on the update process and next time itunes will open your ipod for sincying thanks to forums ilounge.com

You can dual boot if your machine originally came with an older OS version. No Mac can boot from an older version than the one it came with - notable exceptions are if the machine was built right around the time of the new OS release; in that case, it would depend on the machine and OS builds - it may or may not be possible.
So the important question here is: did yours come with Lion preinstalled? The answer is most likely: No. Or Snow Leopard? The answer would be: Yes.

Not sure what you mean then. Is QuickTime still open and playing the video? If so, do you mean you can't even get back to QT to shut it down?
Check the Dock for the QT logo. Click it to bring that app to the foreground. The menu bar then should say QuickTIme Player next to the Apple logo. Close the app and the video will shut down with it.
