Older Version on New Computer

Hi there.
I just installed in older version of iWork on my MacBook Pro (which came with a 30 day trial version of iWork '06). Now, every time I create a new Pages file in the old version of iWork, I can't open the file directly because iWork'06 is set as the default program...even for the files created in the OLDER application.
Does anyone know how I can setthe default iWork application to the older version instead of the new (now-past-trial-phase) application?

The only thing that occurs to me is that when you click on a file, it looks for the newest version of the application. One radical thing you might consider is deleting '06 from your computer. Of course, if you have any files created with '06, you might want to do a Save As... first, then check the Save A Copy in iWork '05 Format.
Let us know what works. We'll figure this bugger out.

How do I convert Pages 5 files to older versions, on a computer that doesn't have Pages 5?

I am out of the country and using an older laptop that has 10.6.8 installed on it. I also have 2 versions of Pages installed on this laptop (2.0.2 and 4.0.5).
I was attempting to open some Pages files that I had created on my Mac (10.10), but got the dreaded "missing .xml file" message. After searching around, it seems the only way to use these older files is to open them with the newer version of Pages, then convert/export them to the older version. However, I can't do this on my current laptop because it can't install the newest version of Pages because it requires an update to 10.10, and this computer can't be updated to 10.10 due to having older hardware.
So, am I basically out of luck until I can access these files on a computer that can run Pages 5?
Apple, if you're reading this I really hate you for messing up Pages like this...

Rate/Review Pages 5.5.2 in the App Store.
The only hope you have and it is stupidly clumsy is to open the Pages 5 document in iWork beta in Safari and export it to a Word doc file, then open that in Pages '09.
This is not a surprise, but it is an object lesson. If you want compatibility and portability, do not use Pages anything or if you want portability across Macs use Pages '09.

Downloaded 4.o firefox, my mac even tho it is osx,is not compatible,replaced the older version with new...now new won't run, old is gone.. want my older version back,bookmarks,etc...how can i restore ,or at least download the 3.6 i had before?

If i restore my ipod on a newer version of itunes on another computer, can i still update it on the older version on my computer?

I can't connect to the internet on my computer and i need to restore my ipod so i was going to restore it on another computer, but wasn't sure whether i'd still be able to update it on my computer because I don't want to have to transfer all my music to the other computer?

How come the driver for the validiy sensor has an older version but newer release date

Can someone please explain why the driver for the finger print reader has an older date but a newer version?
The one on HPs website := Driver Version 4.4.234.0 and Driver Date 24/09/2012.
Yet the one on my P.C. := Driver Version 4.5.235.0 and Driver Date 22/07/2009.
Is it worth updating or not?
I can't seem to get the add-on working on I.E. 11.0.3
Any advice appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Forum.
Short Answer:
If you are running the same version of the Operating System that you were running when the driver was installed, then it is likely your driver is fine as it is.
Based on your Example:
If you have upgraded your Operating System, and you are using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 AND your system is among those supported by the "newer" driver, then you should upgrade.
Long Answer:
There are several Validity Sensor Drivers of this same revision - in the case of sp58869 , the driver has been issued as a compatible driver for the HP Envy M6 for both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. The change might have required additional supporting libraries used with the driver and did not require changes to the driver software itself.
You didn't say which computer model you have nor the version of Windows you are running.
It is true the specific driver within the version class might make a difference if you have updated your Operating System since your own driver was issued for your computer.
It is true that reinstalling a "same version" driver can help if the driver on your system is corrupted. Driver corruption is normal to some extent -- leave a driver on a Windows computer long enough and one or two of the zillions of instructions can corrupt, links can be lost; data can become unstable due to library changes or registry errors.
Drivers control hardware. The fingerprint driver only controls the fingerprinter.
Software provides a means for the user to interact with the computer in an organized environment.

Sometimes a perfectly good driver can "look bad" -- certain data persists from boot to boot. This is normal and the fact that some data is immediately available at boot means the computer starts up faster and that the Operating System is available sooner to the user of the computer.
When things in the boot-to-boot instruction set get tangled, then things may stop working: TouchPad, mouse (external), fingerprint software, maybe even the keyboard. The login data profile for the user account may not set up properly.
Driver Reset / Clean-the-cobwebs off the computer:
Close all your programs and Shut down the computer
Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook
Boot the computer and log in

If Internet Explorer 11 is a recent update from a previous version, and even if this is not an upgraded IE issue, it is important that you be running the most recent version of your fingerprint Software.
I am assuming a lot here -- including that you are running HP SimplePass Version 6.x.

Migrating photos in old version of iPhoto to new version on new computer

I'm attempting to transfer all of the photos and associated data from a circa-2010 version of iPhoto to the latest version on a new laptop. In the process, I'd like to preserve all the folders and events. I tried just transfering the files from one computer to the other but this doesn't seem to work.
Is there an easy way to do this?

Transfer the iPhoto Library file (should be a single file in your Pictures folder) to the other computer - via an external drive is usually best. Put it in your user's Pictures folder. Double-click on it. What happens?

New install of older version on new machine questions (2008 R2 Express)

I want to setup SQL Server 2008 R2 Express to an i5 machine running window 8.1. This should include ssis, ssrs, ssas, and the management studio. The instructions say to:

How do I do this on a new operating system without messing up the operation of other programs?
Is there any downside to loading the 64 bit version?
There are 9 files in the download section, none exactly the same name?
Does this also require installation of Visual Studio? If so which ver.?
I could not find a way in 8.1 to see the version of .net framework but is it likely higher than the required 2.0?
Sorry for my lack of understanding these basics, I have been siloed doing VBA for Access and Excel. The last I wrote any T-SQL was ver. 2000 about 8 years ago and need to expand my skills for a new assignment.

I want to update Firefox 3.6.17 to 4. Do I have to delete the older version from my computer first?

How do you know when to just click and download a Firefox update, as opposed to having to remove the earlier version from your system prior to downloading the new version?

YES, you can, BUT.......should we?? With all of the BIG TROUBLES that MANY MANY PEOPLE are having with ver.4, MAYBE we should wait till the STORM PASSES!!!! And if YOU are one of those that are having trouble and want to get back to 3.6.16.....

"General Error" when moving older project to newer computer

I have a hobbie /"pet" project for my kids that I have been working on, mostly off, over the last couple of years. Have it up and operating on a 17" 10.4.7 system and wanted to move it to a 12" 10.4.7 for travelling ease. Everything for the project is on a portable 90G drive, and ran media manger just to be sure. But it all runs OK on the 17"-FC5 on both- when I boot the project on the 12" get the ubiquitouse "general error". Anybody have any idea where to start? Preference on the 12"? Just got a hold of FCP rescue5 but not quite sure what "backup" or "Trash" mean -but get a "settings are in place" message- SHOULD I TRASH AND RESTART THE PROJECT? THNX ALL

re: fcp rescue. backup takes your current preferences and backs them up. If your preferences get corrupted, you can restore them. But since it's the first time you're running fcp rescue, you need to just trash them. You will have to redo any customizing you have done. I guess you could do a backup then do a trash and if it doesn't fix the problem, you could do a restore. I usually just trash'em and redo em.
Post back if you can't solve the problem. This is just the first step. And post back if you solve it, so everyone will know how you fixed it.

I am not able to install firefox as it says I need to restart my computer to update an older version

I was cleaning up my laptop b/c it was running too slow and I uninstalled firefox with the plan of reinstalling it after I had gotten rid of everything I wanted to get rid of. Now when I try to reinstall it I am told I have an older version which needs to be updated and I should restart my computer to make that happen. Restarted computer 5 times and have gotten nowhere. I don't believe I have an older version on my computer as I pretty much deleted every single thing I ever downloaded or saved (on the plus side my computer is running much faster). Please help.

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Downloaded older version and newer version of what. Any attempts to downgrade iOS are not allowed. Also, using iTunes with the latest iOS and iTunes requires the latest version.
I suggest that you remove and reinstall iTunes using this support document. You need to follow the steps exactly or you will just create more problems, which I think you already have. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
