I'm looking for the OLE code that would allow to enforce the Word document to print itself to a given printer.
Actually I would like to use the PDF Writer to automatically make a pdf version of my Word docs.

How do I set up the system to print 4x6 labels via paypal and ebay using a DYMO 4XL Thermal Label Printer (through airport)?

We bought a DYMO Label Writer 4XL. We want to print thermal labels from our Mac and PC, wireless. The good thing is that I already have the printer set in the network and added on each of our computers (Mac and Windows 8). For printing regular labels you can use the Dymo software; for printing postage labels from ebay or paypal has been impossible.
From ebay I even tried one label at the time but still did not work. I sent the the print command from the mac-print-window, changing each of the settings (such as paper size) but did not work. Each time (no matter if you want to print one label only) it advances more than one lable.

Through Paypal is a different story. It should be easy cause it seems the Zebra Driver in Paypal works with this DYMO. The issue is how to get the system to send the print command to the DYMO printer through the Zebra LP2488? please help! I know some people have succeded making all these work. What am I missing?

To whomever is reading this post I just wanted to let you know I returned the Dymo 4XL. Their customer service is horrible. Technical support does not exist at all. The issue was extremely frustrating and time consuming. I do not recommend this thermal printer at all. Good luck finding one... if you do, please share.

How can I select pages to print from a Word document using the report generation 'print report' vi?

I have researched the knowledge base and found:
Printing A Range of Pages or Number of Copies of a Report Using the Report Generation Toolkit in LabVIEW.
This seems to be from a previous version of LV. I am using LV2010. The instructions given do not match up with the current vi. The information did provide a tip and drilling down into the vi I was able to insert the from/to page numbers at the printout invoke method, however this prevents the print function from working in that it can no longer find the default printer.
The error message is:
Error 1015 occurred at NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Word_Print.vi -> NI_Word.lvclassrint Report.vi ->
error 1015 is: Printer is not responding. Check printer configuration.
Any ideas how I can make the modification to print, for example, pages 24 through 29 out of a 32 page word document?

Hello, take a look at this article. Unfortunately the Generate Report Get Data to Modify.vi was remove since RGT 1.1.3 release. That being said, we can try to find a workaround. See "Configuring a Printer Through the Windows Dialog in LabVIEW", open the GetPrinterSettings.vi, at the PrinterSettings property node you can select the from/to page. I hope this helps.

Cannot change Printer Properties in Word 2010 with J6480. Properties revert to default setting

When I attempt to change Printer Properties in Word 2010, they simply revert back to the default setting. I am unable to use the Printer Properties within the Word 2010. If the default is grayscale, that is all the printer will print unless I change the default setup in the Control Panel. It appears to be an incompatibility with Office 2010 software as other programs allow the change of Printer properties.

I have the exact identical problem. Brand new printer (HP PhotoSmart C4780) on a brand new PC (Windows 7). I cannot access the printer properties dialog box when the PDF file has been opened in an embedded Adobe Viewer window in Internet Explorer.
When I select [Print] from Word or Adobe Viewer, or anywhere else, I can then press the [Properties] button and it opens the printer properties just fine.
But if I open a PDF document through Internet Explorer, clicking on that [Properties] button doesn't do anything. No error or anything. If I press the [Save] in the Adobe Acrobet-embedded Internet Explorer window, it too does nothing. This leads me to think it is an Adobe Acrobat issue. However, I have found nothing in their support forums on this topic.
Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. I only have some example programs which were written using Visual Basic 6.0 as reference. I do have the Intermec Programming Language(IPL) Guide also.
I had tried to do some callings to the printer using the commands from the IPL Guide, but it seems that the printer doesn't respond to anything at all. I am using the basic_serial_write_and_read.vi to do some serial programming with the printer and LabVIEW but to no avail. Every command that I tried to input, the read control returns exactly what I had input, which probably shows that it is not working as I hope it is.
I had used LabVIEW for my final year project during my university days, but it had nothing to do with serial connection/communication, so you can say I am a greenhorn in this area.
Attached is the VI that I used to do the calling and the IPL Guide.

Always duplex printing when printing through cups server

I have about 6 printers which people normally accesses through a cups server running on a Linux box.
We have always printed through the cups server from the Macs we have - and this has always worked great (they get auto-detected as shared printers and so on).
But a few months ago something changed on the Macs - they can now ONLY print duplex - nomatter what i tell them to do in the print dialog. When printing first to a postscript file and then sending the postscript file to the printer (via terminal/lpr) everything gets printing correctly - but when using the printing dialog it always prints duplex.
When printing to the printers directly (many different models) everything works - but going through the cups server - only duplex.
All our Linux machines prints both duplex and simplex as they should, so the cups server isn't the problem.
Has anybody else had this problem?

You need to do the following to make the duplex printing work for postscript in Oracle Reports.
You need a printer with duplex option and an appropriate PPD file.
You also need the Unix tool sed to filter the output file.
The problem is that duplexing is enabled in the job level set up of the PostScript document but gets reset in the page set up because paper size and printer tray information is generated for every page. The workaround would be to write a script, which removes page level set-up information for the paper size and printer tray set up commands. As a side effect of this - it is no longer possible to switch the printer tray between pages.
Write a sed script file called 'duplexsed' with the following three lines. This
/^%%BeginPageSetup/,$ {
/^%%BeginFeature/,/^%%EndFeature/d
Copy the file to an appropriate directory, for example $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
Set the environment variable TK_PRINT:
TK_PRINT="sed -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/duplexsed | lpr -l -s -P'%n' -#'%c'"
export TK_PRINT
Note that the print command is different for the various kinds of Unix.
You may need to refer your installation guide and make changes to the lpr command

It seems like the black cartridge could be running out of ink. Since most of what is commonly printed from MS word and excel might be black text, this is the first reason I can figure out why your printer is not printing only from these applications.
Check this document to see if your printer is performing good and to check if ink is coming out from all of the cartridges.

Print through?

Some background first. I am relatively new to DV. I have just bought a new Sony Hidef DV camcorder. (HC5). My issue is this – In the old days of analogue tape recording there was an issue with “print-through”. This meant that given time, the magnetic information on one layer of tape would influence the adjacent layer, producing a ghosting effect where that sound could be heard faintly in the background. To limit this effect, recording engineers recommended storing the tape “tail out” – then rewinding prior to play. Is “print through an issue with DV tape? In my Sony manual; it recommend to rewind tapes to the beginning for storage. Since this is magnetic media shouldn’t the same principal apply. In other words – shouldn’t DV tape be stored “tail out” (by fast forwarding to the end of the tape)?

I can remember being paranoid about print-through (on audio cassettes) some thirty years ago and used to dutifully rewind tapes for a while.
I soon gave it up and can't say I have ever noticed any.
The world is full of these scare stories which of course do have an element of truth.
When I got my first VCR about twenty years ago, conventional wisdom said that the heads would need replacing after a few hundred hours of use.
That machine was hammered for over twelve years. It wouldn't die and eventually we had to shoot it!

Does anyone know about command line printing?

I have been trying to get my company's point of sale system moved from an old windows machine to a mac mini server. I have been successful with the exception of printing. Basically, as I understand it, the database we use sends a print command to the printer like lp -d "printer name". The problem is the HP laser printer receives it and flashes the orange light instead of printing. To get it to print we must push the green button on top of the printer to get it to print. When it prints everything is fine. I have two HP laser printers that do not have this problem and work correctly. They are Laser Jet P4015 and a M1212nf. The ones that don't work correctly are Laserjet P1505n, P2055, & P1022n. They are all network printers and work fine for regular printing like a word doc or web page. Any help is appreciated.
Also, I have some impact printers both 9pin & 24pin that seem to be almost impossible to configure with OSX. Any tips there would be great as well.

The basic problem as I see it is that all the laser printers with which I am familiar do not cope with printing anything other than a page at a time. That probably explains the orange light - I assume that indicates the printer has received data, but it will not do anything with it until an end of job PostScript or PCL command is sent, and that command is missing from the jobs being sent to the P1505n, P2055, & P1022n.
There may be a way to append that command to the job's end using the POS software you are using. For that PAHU is much more likely to suggest something useful than I.

Unable to print from MS Word: "The Directory Service is currently unavailable"

Hi! I hope you can help me. Please note that I have a Windows XP computer (Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3, 32-bit). When I initially installed a Brother printer (model# MFC-J475DW) in Dec 2013, I had no problems printing documents. My problems
started about 2 days ago. I got an error message after I opened a MS Word document (.doc) and clicked the Print button to print a document. The Printer "Name" field was empty. I clicked the dropdown box in that window and saw 3 options:
1 - Brother MFC-J475DW Printer
2 - Brother PC-FAX v.3.2
3 - PaperPort Image Printer
When I selected "Brother MFC-J475DW Printer," a Microsoft Word dialog box appeared, saying the following:
"The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?"
I can either click on a Yes button or a No button. Either way, I'm brought back to the Print page. When I click on the OK button to start printing, another error message appears:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup. Try one or more of the following:
*Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
*Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
*Reinstall the printer driver."
I have a choice to click either OK or Web Help. I click the OK button to close the box, then return to the Print page. When I click on the "Find Printer..." button, the Find Printers window appears for a moment, then is replaced by this error message:
"The Directory Service is currently unavailable"
On Friday (Mar 21), when the error first occurred, I was able to print a letter in MS Word after un- and re-installing the Brother printer and its drivers. The problem reappeared the next day (Saturday). I don't want to do that every time to print a single
page, so would you please recommend a solution?
By the way, I am able to print a test page from the printer in Control Panel, and I can print from a Notepad document. Also, when I go to the Control Panel, select "Printers and Faxes," then right-click on the printer (Brother MFC-J475DW Printer),
then select the Ports page, there's a check mark next to USB001 (not LPT1 or COM1). When I click on the "Configure Port..." button, I get this error message:
"An error occurred during port configuration. This operation is not supported."
Earlier today, I got a reply from brother.com's tech support (thanks to the 1 year warranty). They said the problem is on my PC, not their printer. However, they provided links to completely uninstall the printer, then reinstall it. I did just that, but
the problem persists. I'll download OpenOffice.org's Office Suite to see if I can print documents with their software instead of MS Word. Until then, I await any suggestions.

I downloaded OpenOffice and am able to print documents (in particular, the same document I created in MS Word). I guess MS Word is to blame. I believe the issue is concluded, but I'd welcome any comments about the Active Directory, as I might have a problem
with OpenOffice in the future regarding that.
