Oling fan on HP notebook 15-f024

In December I got a hp 15-f024 notebook and I always heard the cooling fan start and stop, it was stolen in June when my house was burglerized. I loved my hp so 4 days ago i bought another one (exact same computer) and I have yet to hear the fan turn on (or off) I am worried that it isn't working (at all) Im wondering if there is a way for me to find out if it works or not and if its not what I can do to turn it on or fix it.

Hi @vinzshetty ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15-g206ax Notebook and not able to restore the Notebook to factory defaults.
Here is a link to the HP Recovery manager.
If you removed the partitions or formatted the Hard Drive, then the old recovery is gone. No way to get it back as you have written over it.
Did you create disks with your Notebook?
You could install with the disks you created.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks.

  • Fan control in notebooks

    Hi all,
I am using Arch Linux since a few months, right after purchasing my new laptop, a Dell Precision M3800. Anyway I am a linux user since many years. I like very much the control that arch give to the user in terms of configuration possibility. My question is relate to fan control in notebooks. Even though I noticed this issue in my laptop now, I think similar observation holds also for other notebooks and linux distros. For fan control I use the fancontrol utility. Once properly configured, there is a min temperature value below which the cpu fan is off (default is 20 °C, I increased up to 45 °C) and a max temperature value (default is 55 °C and I placed 65 °C) above which the fan is running at full speed. The reason for the temperature limit changes is to emulate windows behavior in terms of noise and thermal handling. With a room temperature in the order of 25 °C, I get right after login a cpu temperature of about 35 °C. Then the temperature increases even in idle conditions up to the limit of 45 °C and then it is stabilized by the cpu fan. Chaning the temperature between 35 °C and 45 °C simply changes the time interval I have to wait until the cpu fan switches on and cpu temperature stabilizes with low load. The point is the the stable thermal situation produces a continuous switching of the fan state, let's say the fan is on for a few seconds every minute. The reason is that the fan switches off right after the cpu temperature falls below the value for which it turns on. Wouldn't be better to define two different temperatures for switching on and off? Let's say, fan on when temperature reaches 45 °C and off when it falls below 40 °C. Is there a way to do that with fancontrol or same other tool?
    Thank you in advance.
    Bye,
    Luca

OP, what you're describing is called (at least in HVAC circles) hysteresis.  You may be able to find some fan control scripts that support it (googling fan control + hysteresis), or just write one yourself.  You can also control this behavior to some extent by adjusting fancontrol's polling behavior (the "INTERVAL" setting), but that has risks.
I think implementing hysteresis is not a particularly useful endeavor because PC temperatures can change 30 degrees or more in a few seconds when under load, which is completely unlike, say, a home thermostat where temp changes are much more gradual over time.  Realistically, you should expect to always be running at least the CPU fan at some speed, and set your "turn off" temperature for it to room temperature.  You can set different temperature set points for different fans, so you can have the CPU fan turning off at a lower temp, but have other fans off until the temp gets much higher.

  • Fan problem. hot notebook

I'have a problem with my fan.
It never starts and my notebook become so hot that i can't put my hands on.
I get the temperature with acpi and lm-sensor but my fan doesn't start.
    Any idea?

    I've an Acer Travelmate 3012
with win and my previous installation of gentoo fan work very well
I've loaded the acpi deamon and the sensors daemon.
But in my /proc/acpi/fan I have only empty files...

  • No fan control on Notebook (Compaq 615)

I have a Compaq 615 (Athlon 64 X2 QL-64) Notebook with latest AMD Driver and AMD Overdrive for monitoring.
I use it as a Sufing and Office Notebook on university. Unfortunately the fan is permanently running, although the temperatur fluctuates between 45 and 53°C.
The fan starts around 50° C and stops at 45°C.
The maximum operating temperature of this CPU is around 100°C
There shoud be an option in BIOS or AMD Overdrive to control the fan steppings (for example --> start (lowest fan speed) from 60 - 65° --> and so on)
I guess, this could save energy (the permanently running fan needs energy) and convenient (quiet) working would be able.
So AMD pleas help me (us) to implent such a tool.
    With hope for support
    bertl

Exactly the same behaviour on my machine running Ubuntu 9.10. I think a more adaptive control algorithm would do the job, so that the fan speed stays more in more in relation the heat instead of stopping and starting after a few seconds again on a quite noisy level ...
Where is the BIOS update that will help here, please?

Anyone know the part # for me to order this fan - someone told me Amazon, but can't find one specifically for this model- even the alt site doesn't show this model.  Going to try to replace it myself rather than buy new machine.  Any help and advice appreciated!  Tammy

  • How do i clean the air vents on my hp pavilion dv6 notebook pc?

Latelly, the fan on my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC has been noiser than usual and it appears that my notebook becomes quite warm to the touch. The HP Support Assistant running on my notebook PC recommended that I can reduce the heat and fan noise  by cleaning the air vents. How do I do this? Can I do this myself or do I have to have a professional do it?

    Hi Rosie,
You can clean the vents on your notebook.
Buy a can of compressed air.  Essentially, you need to gently blow out the vents with the compressed air to clear out the dirt and dust.  You need a can with a small straw like attachment for the nozzle so you can point it directly toward the vents.
Do take a look at this document first so you know which way to point the air and how to avoid damaging the fan inside the notebook.

  • Major heat problem. should i be able to hear the fans?

my black macbook with 1gb ram is getting very hot when i use front row to play videos at full screen. after about 30-40 mins the left corner of the macbook is so hot i can only touch it for a second or so. then without warning the video just freezes. the picture remains on the screen but looks like it's paused. i then get the spinning colour wheel. the only way to rectify is to force a power off (force quit has no effect). i have to let it cool down for a while and try again. it works fine after that until it gets hot again.
when it locks up, it is completely silent. should i be able to hear the fans working? there is no warm air being expelled from any part of the unit as far as i can tell. the case is just really hot.
i ran a little experiment by pointing a desk fan at the notebook and it played fine for five hours without problems!!! the corner of the macbook was cool to the touch.
this happens in lid closed or open modes.
anyone else have this or is it time to call applecare?

    UPDATE
ok, so we have had the firmware update and guess what?
    all seems ok now!!!!
coreduotemp now reports 65 degrees after playing video at full screen. much better than the 85 degrees it was hitting. now when it gets hot i can hear the fans going. i ran a terminal window and did yes > /dev/null and after only a few seconds the temp was rising to 85-87 and the fans came on really hard and brought it to 68-70. no system stall yet.
normal idle while using only safari over airport is between 41-45 degrees!!!!
i am very happy so far. lets just hope it is the cure.
many thanks for reading and replying.

  • Fan running all the time at high speeds (high speed)

    Hello fellowones,
Im new on this of Arching and i just installed a fresh version of Arch in my laptop (from the Archboot version) and im having some problems with the fan of my notebook, increasing temperatures.
I think perhaps the problem resides in the open drivers of the ATI video card, because i had some temperature problem with them when i was tasting others distro (Ubuntu; xUbuntu), but the thing is i can not install the privative drivers from ATI. But then i saw the same problem (the fan running at hig speeds, but lower temperatures) when i boot the system withouth the open drivers with runlevel3.
So i think i could need some help with this problemita.
    Thanks!
    Marote from Argentina

    Marote,
Opensource ati drivers include powersaving capabilities which can be controled by "echoing" different values into specific "sysfs" files. It's described in the Wiki at this location:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ati#Powersaving
Furthermore, if your laptop is new... they tend to have two graphic chipsets. If  that's your case and both are ATI chipsets, you can manually turn one off, so that both are not active at the same time. Though not specific to your laptop, the steps detailed in this page are valid for you:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ac … e_Graphics
Anyway, if you use ATI Catalyst drivers, you can do all these tasks from it's GUI tool (indeed, opensource drivers way do NOT work when using Catalyst). The easiest way to use Catalyst is activating its repo. Take a look at this page:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … positories
    Hope it helps!

  • Potentially Fan is Failing

I was asked to look at a heat issue with a HP Laptop, Pavilion dv7.
When I first powered up the laptop, I could feel the heat under the left front corner. There appears to be a vent on the side, at that time you could hear the fan was racing very high. That was the only place where the heat could be felt. There were no error messages on the machine when I booted up.
I powered it off and on again, this time the fan wasn't racing high but if you put your ear up to the fan on the bottom side of the laptop, it didn't sound like it was running at a constant speed. It was spinning the you could hear it slow down and speed up, did this several times.
I powered it off and again, a 2nd time, and now the fan is running at what I would say is a normal speed. I couldn't feel the heat under the left front corner as first stated.
So in my un-professional opinion it sounds like the fan could be failing, but then that's why I'm trying to get an opinion from the forum.
Is there a better way to check it?
Is it an easy fix?, If so where do I find a replacement part?
    I'm open to suggestions.
    Please ask additional clarifying questions.

  • I'm getting a Plugged in, not charging message after replacing the CPU fan

I just replaced the CPU fan on this notebook last night and finished it today. Its running perfectly at the moment.
The problem is the windows Task bar on my desktop says "Plugged in, not charging" when I mouse over the battery indicator there. I've tried many things to fix it, from uninstalling or disabling the drivers for the devices involved (the ACPI battery and AC adapter) under Windows' device manager, to swapping out with my spare battery.
I've also switched power plans on the off chance that could have been causing some kind of battery charging setting. This did not fix it. The AC adapter works. I've been running this notebook for about two hours now searching for a solution, it just won't charge the battery. I've not tried observed it enough but I believe it will charge while powered off, but not while on. The orange LED indicator by the AC adapter port glows when the machine is off, indicating that it is charging.
I have a feeling the whole "uninstall device drivers for the battery devices" idea is a thing of the past. Everything I found which suggested doing that also mentioned Windows Vista, which at this point in time is a relic (July 2015). When I was replacing the CPU fan, it did get frustrating at times but everything is intact apart from some case clips and a few other plastic case parts. I have reason to believe everything is connected too because its still powered on, meaning its getting power, but it isn't going in to the battery.
    Symptom summary:
    Batteries: OKAC Adapter: OK
    MOBO: PROBABLY OK
    ME: NOT OK   xD

Hello, I have had trouble with the fan on my Notebook PC and the Notebook overheating becuse of it. I have looked for a fan for it but cant find anywhere that does them. I looked on Ebay but am not tottaly sure what to look for. I am not an exspert when it comes for looking for fans myself and like I said no shop I have tried sells them.
The notebook I have is a Compaq Presario CQ61-405SA Notebook PC. It is about one year old. I have opened it up and got the fan out and tried to clean it. There was hardly any dust at all so I dont think anything is glogged up. I think the fan must be broke and I dont know what to do. The fan started getting louder about a week ago and getting hot. The last few days the fan has made hardly any noise and sometimes it barely blows anything out of it. Fot the first time today after having the laptop on for an hour it shut down and when I restarted it it said it has shut down due to overheating. I did buy one of those USB cooling past a few days ago to see if that would help matters.
If anyone could give me some advice on how to get a fan for this I would be very greatfull. I do have the option of bringing it into a shop and having them order the fan but I cant afford that right now. If I can get a fan myself I am quite compitant at installing it myself.
ps) I am from the Uk by the way.
    Thanks
    Jaymes
