Olite vs microsoft sync framework

hello,
what are the diffrences between olite and microsoft sync framework for windows mobile devices (mainly but also for other mobile platforms like android).
what are the pros and cons of each and where one is better than the other;
our main interests are:
-supported platforms
-sync process
-schema evolution
-installation of application and its updates
-monitor synchronization tools and sync history
-user management
and any other you might think that is important
does anyone have any research on this?please share your experience and opinion
thks

I have looked into the Sync Framework stuff and it is a good tool set. But it really depends on the context that you are using it. It is based on .NET... so, once again you are limited to what you can deploy to. Sync logic is mostly on the client... so I presume the clients are limited to MS based devices... Maybe Linux with Mono. Sync logic on the client is for the purpose of being able to sync to more then just one type of Database. The sync logic is easier to manage in Mobile Server. But at the end of the day, the solution comes down to the context that you are using the sync solution for. I don't know the price of Sync Framework, but it seems to just deploy straight to IIS... So I presume to costs are similar to .NET applications.
I haven't had time to do a deep dive into Sync Framework, but from what I have read and looked at, this is what I have taken out of it.

  • "Microsoft Sync Services has encountered a problem and needs to close"

whenever I try to sync entourage with iCal or Address Book, I get the following message: "Microsoft Sync Services has encountered a problem and needs to close". I can't seem to get it to stop. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Chris

I finally solve this problem in my imac....
For Snow Leopard (Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard):
1 In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    2 Open Terminal.
3 In the Terminal window, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl reset
    4 Press Return.
5 When the operation is complete quit Terminal.
For Leopard (Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard)
    1. In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    2. Open Terminal.
    3. In the Terminal window that opens, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
    4. Press Return.
    5. When the operation is complete quit Terminal.

Note: I'm using Snow leopard when I enter the command..it gives me some error however, I used the command for normal leopard it works for me no more annoying error sync...:) it may works on yours too worth of try.

  • Microsoft Sync Services problem with Entourage (calendar)

Out of the blue, when I open Entourage, I get a dialog box: Microsoft sync services has encountered a problem.
I've isolated it to Calendar in Entourage. I cannot open my calendar. Email works, contacts work - but the error message pops up when I click on calendar.
I've tried to reset sync services through iSync and with a line item in Terminal (/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsy nc.pl reset)
I 'was' using MobileMe - with calendar & contacts (only) synched, but I un-synched them.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard, i get a random error message that sync services has quit, and do you want to send to Microsoft? I always select yes and as of now I have sent more than 160 report messages. This generally happens about twice or three time a day. Some days, the total Entourage quits and has to restart. I do not have the specific problem you describe as calendar works most of the time, but the sync services crash happens randomly. I can find no one who can explain why with Snow Leopard and not with Leopard. Going to Microsoft for a solution is not the answer, as I can find no one there to talk to for free. I use iCal and Mobile Me for my synching, but use Entourage as my e-mail program as I am used to it. I also have sync services active so my Entourage calendar will be up to date, but I make no entries into it.

  • Azure + Sync Framework + Error: Value was either too large or too small for a UInt64

    Hi,
We have an in-house developed syncronisation service built on the Sync Framework v2.1 which has been running well for over 2 years. It pushes data from a local SQLServer 2005 database to one hosted on Azure with some added encryption.
The service was stopped recently and when we try to re-start it, it fails with the error:
System.OverflowException: Value was either too large or too small for a UInt64.
    at System.Convert.ToUInt64(Int64 value)
    at System.Int64.System.IConvertible.ToUInt64(IFormatProvider provider)
    at System.Convert.ToUInt64(Object value, IFormatProvider provider)
    at Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.SyncUtil.ParseTimestamp(Object obj, UInt64& timestamp)
    at Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.SqlServer.SqlSyncScopeHandler.GetLocalTimestamp(IDbConnection connection, IDbTransaction transaction)
I have found the Hotfix 2703853, and we are proposing to apply this to our local server, but we have found that running SELECT CONVERT(INT, @@dbts) on the local database returns 1545488692 but running the same query on the Cloud database returns -2098169504.
which indicates the issue is on the Azure side. Would applying the hotfix to our local server resolve the issue or would it need to be somehow applied to the Azure server?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
    Chris

    Hi,
We have now applied the Sync Framework hotfixes to our server and re-provisioned the sync service. No errors were reported and the timestamp values were all within the required range. On re-starting the service the system worked as anticipated. It has now
been running for a week and appears to be stable. No further changes were required other than installing the hotfixes and re-provisioning the scope.

  • Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?

Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • IPod Touch & Ford Microsoft Sync

Up until Apple's update, my 3rd Generation iPod Touch worked flawlessly. After this last update I have experienced nothing but problems.
    1. Plugged into USB and immediately it said it did not support this type of media; never did this before.
    2. When using voice command to connect to USB it tells you there is no such device. Repeat this step and it finally recognizes the iPod Touch.
    3. Now skips during playing of songs; never did this before.
I have eliminated all variables to prove this is due to the last update by Apple.
    1. Master Reset Ford Microsoft Sync; did not make a difference.
    2. Reset iPod Touch to factory settings. Though I backed it up it experienced errors and lost all of my information. %#%@$@$%% Made no difference as it re-installs everything for software updates.
    3. Tried iPod Shuffle with Ford Microsoft Sync; worked perfectly.
    4. Tried iPod Nano with Ford Microsoft Sync; worked perfectly.
    5. Tried Flash Drive with Ford Microsoft Sync; worked perfectly.
    6. Re-tried iPod Touch with Ford Microsoft Sync; continues to skip
What "TICKS" me off is I'm an Apple supporter. I have computers and multiple iPods. I however cannot contact Apple to address this issue without paying. They have no easy access to talk to anybody or even e-mail for support.
    What to do? Anybody?

This really irks me. There should be no reason that this should not work. The technology in my 2008 Sport Trac has not changed so there should be no reason that any updates to the iPod Touch should not work; unless Apple is doing this intentionally. This needs to be addressed by Apple to correct this problem. If they want people using their product then they had better make it compatible.
I like Apple products and own quite a few HOWEVER I dislike Apple for their support. I tried contacting them through their web site but the site only gives you the runaround. You cannot contact them by e-mail but can submit a request and when I do it says that I have to "pay"; what kind of crap is this? I own your product now support it, why should I have to pay for that support?????
If this doesn't get resolved soon I will not be purchasing another Apple product. For my vehicle I will put all of my music on a Flash Drive and will operate it this way. It works, it is quick and I won't have to worry about taking it out of my vehicle each time I leave. And when I add further music to it I won't have to wait for the darn thing to "INDEX" like the iPod Touch does when connected with new music.
I am not happy with Apple and I await their resolution if ever that happens.

  • Bluetooth Pairing with Microsoft Sync - Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD

After the upgrade of my father-in-law's phone to KitKat (v 4.4.2) the bluetooth pairing to his Microsoft Sync in a 2013 Ford Explorer no longer works right. After deleting the pairing on the vehicle and then repairing, the contacts do not copy over. It says "downloading contacts, please wait" then comes back a few seconds later saying "no contacts". I've deleted and recreated the pairing on the vehicle twice but I cannot seem to delete it in the displayed devices on the phone.
    I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks for confirming Werica. I'm pleased to hear that the bluetooth functionality is still working. This sounds more specific to the hands free bluetooth system in your vehicle. Have you been able to test the device with another vehicle or another bluetooth capable accessory? If the device will works successfully with the others, I apologize our control is limited with a specific vehicle.

  • Microsoft Sync 2.1 with CE 4.0 - Can localDB be the replacement?

    Hello
We are working on WPF desktop with CE 4.0 as the local client db and tried to use Synch 2.1 for synching the db to the server but we are issues. After research, we found that CE 4.0 doesn't support Sycn 2.1 which is not a good thing. I have come across few
work arounds and like to hear the thoughts.
Can we use local db which is currently out there for developers only and roll out? Anybody out there used LocalDB for clients and sync purposes?
    Any other options>
    Vijai

    Hi,
Your understanding is correct. Compact 4.0 does not support data replication with SQL Server using Sync Framework, merge replication or remote data access (RDA).
Alternatively, we can use SQL Express LocalDB for synchronization. LocalDB uses the same sqlservr.exe as the regular SQL Express and other editions of SQL Server. It supports ADO.NET Sync Framework and more features compared with SQL Server
    Compact.
Erik has generalized an excellent table to compare features. See his article
    here.
In addition, there are significant differences between LocalDB and SQL Server Compact:
    1. Execution mode: SQL Server Compact is an in-proc DLL, while LocalDB runs as a separate process.
    2. Disk usage: all SQL Server Compact binaries amount to some 4MBs, while LocalDB installation takes 140MBs.
    3. Features: SQL Server Compact offers core RDBMS functionality like querying, while LocalDB provides a much richer set of features, including Stored Procedures, Geometry and Geography data types, etc.
Administration permission is required to install LocalDB.

  • Does Microsoft Sync work with Windows 7 64 bit Outlook 2010 when you connect via Bluetooth?

I was using Microsoft Sync and connecting to my laptop using the sync cable when I was running a 32 bit OS and Windows Vista. I just got my new laptop and it has Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7 64 bit. I've read it'll still work using bluetooth to connect vs the  ync cable. Has anyone been successful doing it that way? I have a 700W treo.

Nope. The printer now appears in the list, but I can't print to it. The port is shown as:

  • SQL Server Components as part of Microsoft Dotnet Framework 4.5.1 installation

    Hi,
I did an installation of Microsoft Dotnet Framework 4.0 and  4.5.1 version. After installation, I was able to find that the below components also got added to my system.
    1) Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Setup Support files
    2) Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (64 bit)
    3) Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
    4) Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Setup (English)
    5) Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact SQL Script Dom
I need to get a confirmation on whether these components get added as part of Microsoft Dotnet Framework 4.5.1 installation. Can anyone please help me confirm this?. (I did installation on Windows 2008 Server RC2 64 bit VM.) .
    Thanks
    Anupama

    Hi Anupama,
The components about SQL Server you mention above are not parts of Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1. There should be installations of SQL Server 2008 and 2012 before you install .NET Framework 4.5.1.
In addition, .NET Framework is a requirement for the SQL Server installation. For example, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or later version is a requirement for SQL Server 2008 installation and .NET 4.0 or later version is a requirement for SQL Server 2012 installation.
