Olympus E-400

Hello all, I am considering purchasing Aperture to handle the processing of RAW files from my Olympus E-400 DSLR. I'm currently using the Photoshop RAW convertor but am finding it quite long winded, particulary as I've just returned from a trip armed with 250+ files to process ! I notice that my camera is currently not shown in the list of supported models, does this mean Aperture will be unable to deal with the Olympus ORF files that it generates ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Aperture doesn't support RAW files from your camera, here you have a list of all the cameras supported:

However there is a solution for this, as explained here:

Download the Aperture Trial from www.apple.com/aperture and try before you buy. Depend on what mac you're gonna run it on you might be dissapointed by its performance.

Using Olympus MJU-400 digital camera

Hi all!
I'm on my way to buying a Mac Mini to finally enjoy OSX for myself! I bought my digital camera a year and a half ago and although it came with drivers etc for Mac they were all (obviously) for PowerPC versions. Does anyone know whether the drivers will install on an Intel Mac (or even if I need them at all?). I'm not bothered about the software seeing as I never use it and look forward to trying out iPhoto - it would be nice to be able to install the drivers so I can hook my camera up though!

This will work great with the Mac. You don't need to install any drivers. Plug in the camera and transfer your photos!

Fixed My Printing Troubles in 10.5.3

I had serious troubles after installing 10.5.3 on my Epson, Downloaded GutenPrint 5.2.0-beta2 from versiontracker.com and now I am printing again both Wirelessly and Standard. I have no ties to this program other than its now saving my Buttocks.

Using what version and what driver? There is a know problem with the Gutenprint drivers v5.1.3 that come pre-installed with Leopard. For Epson printers, they will default to Draft mode unless you specify a specific resolution. Later versions of the Gutenprint drivers have corrected this.

Have you tried the driver from Epson. It is not included with Leopard. You need to download and install it separately. Start at _http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jsp_ to find the driver download.

WMA Audio files not compatible with Aperture 3?

Hi,
I just bought a Olympus WS-400S Digital Voice Recorder, to record audio for my audio slideshows that I will be using Aperture 3 to make, I cant seem to import these files into iTunes either.
Is Aperture 3 compatible with WMA audio files?

Intermittent "Unsupported image format" message with either CR2 or DNG

I am seeing "Unsupported image format" messages once files created by a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark iii (+stored in Canon's CR2 file format or when the same file is converted to Adobe's DNG file format+) have been imported into Aperture.
Some files will import and be viewable. However, most of the time the files are not viewable. This occurs even after updating Aperture to 1.5.6.
Is anyone else seeing problems with CR2 or DNG files created by Canon EOS 1Ds Mark iii?
Has anyone see a solution?

I think Support is confused with the Canon camera models.
10.5.1 supports 1D Mk III, but only 1Ds Mk II.

I don't believe that 10.4.11 supports anything that 10.5.1 doesn't support. In fact, the docs at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306297 say "Adds RAW image decoding support for the following cameras: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50, Leica V-Lux 1, Olympus E-400, Olympus EVOLT E410, Olympus EVOLT E510, Canon EOS 40D" (the 1D Mk III came in the 10.4.10 update.)

Camera raw no longer supports my camera/lens.

I'm running Camera Raw 8.2. In earlier versions of Camera Raw the lens tab supported my camera and lens, an Olympus E-400 with a Zuiko 12-60 f2.8-4 zoom. Now it doesn't. Is there something I can do to get back support for this camera/lens?

I’ve had every version of ACR since it was first available with Photoshop. I bought the Olympus E-400 in December 2006, a 50 mm macro in 2007 and the 12-60 zoom in 2008. I can’t actually remember when I first used the lens tab and found my lenses on it; but I do have a note that Olympus had gone from the camera list in late 2012.
What I do know is (a) that the Olympus brand and my lenses were there at some stage, and (b) that I didn’t have to download the Adobe Lens Profiler to get the profiles. I downloaded it yesterday for the first time.
However, today I’ve been searching for more information, and found this in the Lightroom Micro 4/3rds Talk Forum at http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3176384:
…the difference with the traditional digital camera systems is that lens correction data in m4/3 is stored in the lens firmware and communicated to the camera through the electronic connections in the lens mount. The data is used in in-camera JPEG production and is included in the output raw files. Adobe Lightroom and other converters can use this data for their own conversions. Hence no separate lens profiles are needed for native m4/3 lenses. Neat huh?
Neat indeed, if it’s also true of ACR. I guess it must be included in ‘other converters’. Can anyone verify that this is really true of Olympus cameras/Zuiko lenses?

Adjusting exposure turn white areas into light blue

Hi All,
During testing the Aperture2 trial I noticed that adjusting the exposure turned pure white area's into a light blue.
It happened with a raw image from an Olympus E-400 that has a white background and is pure white close to a window. Since it was slightly over exposed, I adjusted the exposure to -0.63. The area next to the window turned blue. Editing the same raw file in Lightroom2Beta with the same exposure adjustments gives a perfect result.
Has anyone encountered this effect and maybe even found a cause / solution?

As far as I could tell, the color space is only set for export. When editing the raw files I can't set the color space. I looked for a default color space setting, but couldn't find anything. Maybe I don't understand what you meant by 'set Aperture to display using the same colour space (likely sRGB) as Lightroom'
If I adjust the exposure, only the light area changes to light blue. However, I've noticed that the overall picture looks more greenish / blueish in Aperture2 than it does in Lightroom2 even with the same white balance setting. I'm getting the impression that Lightroom is simply better at interpreting the raw file.
I could try to get an acceptable result with other adjustments like you suggested, but I think that both white balance and exposure should work flawlessly in an raw editor like aperture, since they are the most used adjustments in my experience.

Olympus E-P1, RAW files, barrel distortion and Snow Leopard

I currently use Aperture 2.0, a MacbookPro, and a new Oly E-P1. I have just returned from a trip to Spain with over 1000 RAW files. Aperture won't recognize them. Tricking Aperture into accepting them as E-30 RAWs leaves in huge barrel distortion issues. Always silent Apple won't even say if they're working on recognizing them in an upcoming release. The native OLY RAW converters mostly correct the barrel distortion with funny math in their extremely lame Olympus Master 2 that came with the camera. Raw Photo Processor (which I was counting on to save me) which will recognize the files, also leaves in barrel distortion.
I understand that the latest Adobe Camera Raw 5.5 will read Oly E-P1 RAW files. I see no way to use Adobe Camera Raw 5.5 without upgrading my current Photoshop from CS to CS4 and purchasing Lightroom. Total cost, about $400. I might be willing (as an amateur) to do this, as I probably need to upgrade to CS4 anyway, BUT, I understand through a little digging on the web, that I will probably have to downgrade my OS from OS X v. 10.6 (Snow Leopard) apprently not supported by Adobe yet. Both of these will be a major commitment of time and money.
I would like to make sure that the Adobe Camera Raw 5.5 does indeed correct the barrel distortion first. Anybody out there using it? Also, if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

If you want to try, just download the LR 2.5 demo version from the Adobe Website. You don't need to upgrade Photoshop. Lightroom will work just fine by itself, even when using CS as the external editor as it contains the full ACR raw rendering kernel and you can just have Lightroom render tifs to be sent to PS. Also, Lightroom and CS4 work perfectly fine on 10.6. Lightroom should be run in 32-bit mode for the time being if you need the tight Photoshop integration, but that is about it. I don't know where you got the info that you would need to downgrade. That is simply false.

Camera Raw Not Parsing Some Olympus EM-5 ORF (RAW) Files

I'm using Adobe Camera Raw on my Olympus EM-5 ORF files and several come back that they cannot be parsed. My last card had over 20 files that said the RAW could not be parsed (out of ~500 photos). Is anything being done to fix this or is it not acknowledged as an issue? I've updated everything to the latest. I've tried clearing the cache and other ideas to no avail.

Olympus OMD EM-5 Mark IIraw files not supported?

I just bought an Olympus OMD EM-5 Mark II, a brand new version of the EM-5. I can't import raw files from the camera into Lightroom. I see a message saying that the raw format is not supported. There was no such problem with the earlier version of the camera. Any suggestions?

How do I import RAW photos into iPhoto? I cannot import RAW photos from my Olympus EPL-2 camera. I am using iPhoto 7.1.5.

The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually. If yours is not supported then let them know you want it:
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
When support is added I also expect that you'll need iPhoto 09 or 11.

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.

Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

MY HP Laserjet Pro 400 Color MFP M475dw (9 months old) no longer finds any wireless network in my home. It worked fine then stopped for no reason I can determine. Nor will it print via USB cable direct from my PC. I opened a case with HP on 9/1/14 for this issue (Case [Edited for Personal Information]) but have only received emails from HP asking for a valid phone number and the address of the printer location, all of which has been provided several times. The first email from HP gave me a phone number to contact HP but that number was missing a digit (1-890-946-500). Please help!
