Olympus E-510 Support

Adobe: I have had my Olympus E-510 for over 2 months now, and I am getting weary of waiting for you to support this model with your Camera Raw.

He might argue that it's meant to be implicitly plural, but then it should have been something like
Adobe developers or
Dear Adobe Raw team for clarity ;-)
English all too often allows or leads to imprecision in pronouns and tenses (in fact, modern colloquial American English is turning into Japanese in that sense), even from relatively good writers.
This guy isn't a good writer. He's simply pompous and pontificating. His superfluous use of
your shows that the most clearly. It's simply redundant, pointlessly formal, and hackneyed... ..as is the writer.

  • Olympus E-510 Camera Raw support

I've been using and Olympus E-500 and CS2 suite and have had no problem bringing in raw files (ORF) into Photoshop. However, I just started using the new Olympus E-510 and the raw files from this camera cannot be imported into Photoshop.
Does anyone know of a plug-in that will allow me to bring in the E-510's raw files (or does anyone know when an Adobe update will happen to include the E-510)?
    Thanks very much.

The E-510 apparently is not yet supported, but probably within a couple of months.
(I had been reading about a magenta cast for near blown highlights for this camera at the DPReview Oly DSLR forum. I seem to remember some users checking these highlights with ACR, but I could be mistaken. Check it out.)
Unfortunately for you, it will only be supported by CS3's ACR version 4.x. You will need convert to DNG to be able to use ACR3.x with CS2. When the 510 is supported, you'll be able to download the DNG converter.

  • Support for Olympus E-510 and E-410

    Hi,
Will the upcoming 1.1 update provide support for the new Olympus E-510 and E-410? If not, when can this support be expected?
    Jim

This page shows all the supported formats.
Lightroom 1.1 will support all those in ACR 4.1

  • Adobe Camera Raw 6.2 and Olympus E-510 camera profile

    Hi all!
When I open a raw file captured from my Olympus E-510 with Adobe Camera Raw 6.2 and go to Camera Calibration tab, ACR doesn't display any profile for my camera, althouth Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html) says it supports my model. The same happens at the Lens Correction tab, it doesn't display any profile for Olympus. If I open a raw file from other Camera (Nikon for example) everything is ok. Does anyone know how I'm going to fix this???
    Thanks for your time!

You should see an Adobe Standard profile and perhaps an ACR x.x profile for your camera, but Adobe does not make Camera-centric profiles (landscape, portrait, camera neutral, etc) for most cameras unless they are Canon DSLRs, Nikon DSLRs, one Leica and a few Pentax cameras.
On a Vista/Win7 system you can verify what models of cameras are supported by Adobe by looking for profiles in:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
    The lens profiles are in:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles
There are comparable directories on Win XP.

  • DNG cannot convert ORF from Olympus E 510

I have a Olympus E 510. My RAW files are ORF.dn G converter don't suppurt ORF or what do I do?
    Leif

The DNG converter does convert ORF files from Olympus cameras. That camera has been supported for years. What makes you believe that you can't convert those files?

Ich wish strongly Olympus E-5 Support for Raw-Format for Ligtroom 3.3,... and i wait since ages for Lens Correction Profiles of Zuiko Lenses ;-)) There are plenty of Olympus users who yearn for that :-)
    Will Release 3.3 support this?

  • Olympus E-520 support?

I have the brand new Olympus E-520 DSLR along with Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 on a Mac. I updated the Camera Raw to version 4.4.1 to see if I can open these E-520 RAW images (.orf), but that didn't work.
I'm guessing Olympus E520 isn't supported yet, am I right?
    Do need an example RAW?

    > I recommend the supplied with the camera software which has an excellent converter.
Oly Master definitely has its pluses and minuses, but you're likely to get exactly the same results as the in-camera JPEG engine. I'd suggest you use Master to deliver low-contrast 16bit TIFs that you can develop further with ACR. The advantages of using Master are pretty much limited to noise reduction and sharpness (as if Oly knows its cameras' raw data best). The disadvangares will be apparent if you try to recover highlights, or if you've grown accustomed to ACR's excellent tonal controls.

  • Olympus e30 Raw support?  Will there be a UPdate?

    I am using LRf2.3 64-bit  Vista,  and a new Olympus e30
When I import and convert to DNG  I notice on the e30 files that I am using Adobe Standard  as the Camera Calibration.  Does not even have a listing for the current ACR 5.3 to choose.
Read on DPR  that the Olympus e30 support in LR v2.3  is not optimal (sub-optimal as DPR put it)    Which my gut feeling tells me it is true.
link to DPR  mention of this:   http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympuse30/page31.asp
Also,  strange goings on when I import with AUTO exposure  ... which was pretty close before (only had to change the Brightness slider down on other OLY files).
Question:   Is the Update comming Soon?
Question: What are my solution options?   Has anyone found a good workaround for now?
Strange to me  Adobe did not correct this already.

Zuikoke,  LR v2.4  e30  color  on the defaut import   ...  I normally import (and convert to DNG)  using the e-30 "as shot" WB ... which I find, during the day and flash, the e30 WB it pretty good  ...  so, I use it as a starting point and do a small tweak from there.
On the  ... 'brownish' contrasty tone  ...  I  might see that in the "Skin Tones"  ...  but, an adj on exp. / fill light seems to help this quickly ...  but, on something important  I normally smooth/adj the skin (separatly) a little anyway.
At this point I think any color issues I might have could be  solved on a small tweak in a  default import Pre-set.   My issue with the conversion is  Sharpness and Noise on a 12mp e30 file (vs my 10mp e510 files)  ... and the DPR review/thing only made me wonder more (they get to convert/compaire using different software.   And it does not seem to be with the camera ,  it "seems" the conversion could be BETTER.  (sharper, on the default import)
Would also like to see  LR  have  the OLY  Natural and Vivid options ... to copy the output of the OLY JPG  (which is very good, but, I don't use lol)
    * also, wish  Olympus would work together with  Adobe and  have there  bodys output DNG files that "THEY / Olympus"  can optimize  ... so, there is no need for  a  version update for every new OLY body.
    Just my take on it.

  • Olympus E-3 support- when?

This is one of the cameras I have and though I am not a fan of post processing in general, it's good to have that option when I feel I really need it + organize some work. I can understand supporting Nikon/Canon from the get go, but Sony Alpha 700 and not the E-3?
If Apple wants Aperture to compete well with LightRoom they really need to up the support.
It's just too bad because I love Aperture 2.0 a lot so far (ther than the still-don't have but already got charged for upgrade key).
    - Raist

It's good to know that this works. I have yet to try it, or even decide whether or not ever to try it, as I am so very disappointed with the lack of support for the Olympus E-3 .ORF files in the latest OS X update as well as A2, and am really feeling pushed by Apple toward Adobe. I don't want to go there (other than to continue with my long-standing use of Photoshop), but I also really don't want to add another step (conversion to .DNG) to my workflow, so I haven't even downloaded the A2 trial. The .DNG stuff really feels like being relegated to less than equal, second-class status when it comes to obtaining the very best possible image quality from native RAW files. Maybe I just don't understand .DNG very well; I'd welcome further enlightenment in this area. It seems sadly ironic to me that to get any sort of RAW file access in A2 right now, I'd have to use an Adobe product (the free .DNG converter), but if I went to A2's Adobe competitor, my Olympus E-3 .ORFs would be handled natively. This just seems crazy to me.

  • Olympus EP-3 Support

I know it's not Adobe's policy to talk about unreleased products, so I'd just like to voice a request that this camera, the Olympus EP-3, be supported in Lightroom and ACR. I can't really trust manufacturer-supplied RAW converters for real work the way I can Lightroom and Photoshop and the other RAW converters are (pardon me for saying this) kind of a joke by comparison. Adobe, you already support the Fuji X100 -- this is a similar category of camera so I'm hoping for support soon
    Thanks!

It makes sense that barring some technical foobar, there will be support in the next release *if there is market demand*. Right now, the vendor software, although better than most, is completely unacceptable as compared to ACR. Adobe: Even a beta would be welcome!!!

  • Olympus OM-1 support

How do I obtain lens distortion correction for my Olympus 12-40 2.8 lens? Why doesn't adobe support this particular camera?

    Thanks for the heads-up Frank!
It's an impressive list. And the good news is, the updates is compatible with the latest Mountain Lion and does not require Mavericks.
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.06    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1757
    System Requirements
    OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 w/ iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 3.4.5
    OS X Mavericks 10.9 w/ iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 3.4.5

  • Olympus E520 RAW support

This is not necessarily specific to Apple, but since I use Aperture right now it applies here. I've had a new Olympus E520 camera for several weeks now and it is still not supported by Aperture (nor Lightroom, although Adobe's DNG Converter version 4.5 for Windows does support it). This is immensely frustrating since the Olympus software crashes on my Mac Pro (I would prefer not to use it anyway, and after a 15 days trial I'll have to buy it to convert my Olympus RAW files).
The industry needs to change such that when a new camera is released it is already supported by photo apps. Fine if I have to go an download it, I don't mind that. But having to wait (and wait) for an update long after the camera is released is simply wrong in this day and time. The camera companies need to provide whatever info is necessary for the photo app companies to create their RAW converters and the photo app companies need to work to keep up in a timely fashion.
So... here's to Olympus E520 support in Aperture, soon : )

You have to buy the software to convert their RAW files? UGH.
Your first (current) option is to use Adobe's DNG converter (as you noted) version 4.5 to create DNG files, that Aperture should be able to use. There is a Mac version of this software as well. It's an extra step, but it will work.
There's no reason you shouldn't also use Aperture's "submit feedback" mechanism to let Apple know what camera you're using. This forum isn't officially staffed by the Aperture team. So while Joe Schorr pops his head in every once in a while, there's no guarantee Apple is seeing your note here. Submit feedback will be seen

  • Olympus E-3 support

It's larger than I was expecting, but I'll be getting one. Let's hope that Apple provides prompt support in Aperture.
    Cheers,
    Andreas

I've been waiting for months for support for the e510. The emails announcing the e3 and OS X Leopard arrived next to each other in my inbox. So I rang Apple to ask whether Leopard will be compatible with RAW files from the e510.
First person I spoke to said it was a very technical question and I'd need to speak to one of their engineers, to whom he then transferred me.
The engineer then told me he didn't know. Further, that type of information was 'confidential'! I said there therefore seemed no point in pre-ordering Leopard (the purpose of their original email). He agred, and advised me to wait until after Leopard's release, when presumeably it will become apparent whether they have done it.
I think Olympus and Apple need to be talking to each other.
Will the e3 produce the same RAW files as the e410 & e510, do you know?
Anyone from Olympus or Apple care to comment?

  • OLympus E-600 support

Hi: Lightroom doesn't seem to support the Olympus E600, so two questions.
    1. How does one find out when it will? Can one jump up and down to persuade Adobe?
    2. In the meantime is there any work around? I remember reading somewhere that one can edit the Exif data and change 600 to 620. Then Lightroom will recognize the image. Sounds tedious!
    Any advice please?
    Thanks.
    Donald

    Donald,
Sorry, my post was missleading. I meant to say "You could use DNG Converter 6.1 to convert your RAW files into a DNGs and  import the DNGs into LR".
Together with any ACR release, also a new DNG Converter is released, so there is a DNG Converter 6.1 available here. DNG Converter is a standalone application to convert RAW files to DNG, which you then can import in LR. You don't need PS or PSE to do so.
