Olympus E 620 Orf Files

I just changed cameras to an Olympus E 620. When I download the ORF (raw) pictures I have taken, I can not see them in either iPoto or Aperture. It tells me it is an unecognizable format.

Here is the RAW support list for OS X 10.6 - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825 - the Olympus E 520 is not on it - so that is why it does not work - until Apple and Olympus provide support you will have to use JPEG - or another solution - sometimes Adobe supports some RAW formats earlier than Apple

  • Why can't I import olympus e-p1 orf files

I have just downloaded Lightroom CC. When I try to import Olympus E-P1 .ORF files I get constant error messages, such as unsupported or damaged files.
The same files still import properly into Lightroom 5.
    Any ideas?

re: ) but cannot initiate installation by clicking on it -- it won't open.
Have you added the Addon to Thunderbird?
    * In Thunderbird, 'Tools' > 'Add-ons'
    * Add-ons Manager opens in new tab
    * click on the daisy wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file'
    * locate the saved .xpi file and click on 'open'
It should show up in the 'Add-ons Manager' tab.
have you restarted Thunderbird? - yes you say you have.
then you said " I restarted TB and went to Tools> Import"
Tools> Import" is incorrect. You need to use the tool you have just added.
    * Select 'Local Folders'
    * in Thunderbird ''''Tools' > 'ImportExporttools' > 'import messages''''
    * locate the folder where you saved your .eml files
    * select files and click on 'open'

  • LR3 not able to open Olympus E5 RAW ORF files

On recently incident, I bought another Olympus E5 model. After shooting so many RAW images, I was not able to post process those raw files. I contacted Adobe for an update....what a joke, it was rejected and reply given saying that I did not register officially...wasting my time. My LR was bought legally. Never mind, I was quite upset that Adobe support reaction is not fast enough to satisfy customers' needs. I also saw in the discussion forum that other guys had the same problem. Would appreciate Adobe do something about it by giving users an quick update by next week.

    FS Wong wrote:

I just could not understand why Adobe can't anticipate what new models will be released to market. I could only guess that Adobe just don't bother to pay attention to Olympus RAW format...until someone complained about it.
    Uh, what?
You want Adobe to /anticipate/ new models? From what companies? All of them?
So, you don't understand how Adobe may not be allowed access to what is essentially secret information by the camera vendors, all of which have their own agenda, and have them essentially synchronize their product release dates in some manner to the release dates of ACR?
How about Apple? Should they also be privy to this information? Should Aperture and ACR track the exact same release schedule?
How about if camera vendors switch their raw formats to DNG, and then they'd be compatible with the rest of the world, instead of just themselves.
You assertion that Adobe doesn't "pay attention to Olympus" is unfounded. Show your evidence that this has ever been the case.
Adobe has to do this the same way everyone else does, by waiting until the hardware is public. Then it gets added to the list, and eventually verified and the usual camera profiles tweaked and gathered up for the next available full or point release.
The fact that this happens only in a few months or weeks in most cases should have you praising Adobe for their hard work and dedication to their entire user base.
Remember, it was you who chose to buy a bleeding edge camera without checking that it was supported (or assuming it would be supported on a schedule that is convenient for you, not anyone else.) I understand that you feel you deserve this support immediately, but the world is an imperfect place, and your complaints sound more like assumed privilege than real problems.

  • Olympus E-510 ORF files...

Anyone know if these will be supported some day, or how I can request that be supported?

No one here knows any of Apple's future plans - we're just Users like you. Perhaps if you used the Feedback link (iPhoto Menu) you can let them know.

  • Snow leopard and orf file from Olympus OMD EM1

Hello, is there any chance to see the preview of these orf file without upgrading to 10.8.5 or later?
I have Aperture 3.2.4 with Digital Camera Raw 3.13.0 and it works fine with the Olympus E 620 orf files.
I can see the preview of these orf also from desktop. without opening Aperture.
Upgrading to Olympus OMD EM1, the new orf files aren't read anymore...it seems that  I need Digital camera Raw 5.03 to see them, but the dmg can't be opened with 10.6.8....
I don't want to upgrade , because I like very much Snow leopard, but it is frustrating not to see the preview of the Olympus EM1 orf files...every time I have to open them with Olympus Raw Converter ( Olympus Viewer 3), that is very slow....
    Any suggestion?
    Thank You for the attention
    Bye
    Susanna

Hy Brody, thank You for your kind reply
I think that I won't be able to fix this because I've read somewhere that Preview share the same raw converter of Aperture and IPhoto, but I run Aperture 3.2.4 ( Aperture 3.5 is required for EM1 and doesn't support my SL !!) and a very old Iphoto ( I don't use it since a long time ago), that I can upgrade only to 9.2.3.
Now I must find if Iphoto 9.2.3 can open these raw from EM1, so probably also Preview could...but I'm not hopefully.
    Thank U very much again!!

  • Camera Raw Not Parsing Some Olympus EM-5 ORF (RAW) Files

I'm using Adobe Camera Raw on my Olympus EM-5 ORF files and several come back that they cannot be parsed.  My last card had over 20 files that said the RAW could not be parsed (out of ~500 photos).  Is anything being done to fix this or is it not acknowledged as an issue?  I've updated everything to the latest.  I've tried clearing the cache and other ideas to no avail.

  • RAW Olympus e-620 support, when?

I have purchased the camera, and the RAW is not available Through Apple for iPhoto for instance. When will this be available?

It's good to know that this works. I have yet to try it, or even decide whether or not ever to try it, as I am so very disappointed with the lack of support for the Olympus E-3 .ORF files in the latest OS X update as well as A2, and am really feeling pushed by Apple toward Adobe. I don't want to go there (other than to continue with my long-standing use of Photoshop), but I also really don't want to add another step (conversion to .DNG) to my workflow, so I haven't even downloaded the A2 trial. The .DNG stuff really feels like being relegated to less than equal, second-class status when it comes to obtaining the very best possible image quality from native RAW files. Maybe I just don't understand .DNG very well; I'd welcome further enlightenment in this area. It seems sadly ironic to me that to get any sort of RAW file access in A2 right now, I'd have to use an Adobe product (the free .DNG converter), but if I went to A2's Adobe competitor, my Olympus E-3 .ORFs would be handled natively. This just seems crazy to me.

my Lightroom 3.6 is sposed to read Olympus RAW (.ORF) files. it does'nt. How to make it do so? Install the Camera Raw plug-in 7.1 that's available for download?

  • .orf files won't open in CS2 (Olympus E-3)

I recently purchased an Olympus E-3 (previously owned E-330). I use CS2 and Windows XP Media. I am new to shooting RAW images and just got back from a trip where I shot RAW (.ORF) images.
I updated my DNG converter (Tried both 3.7 and 4.5) and Camera Raw to 3.7 (as that is the highest level supported by CS2). The list of supported cameras include the E-3. But I still get the error message that it can't complete your request because "it is not the right kind of document."
I try to use the DNG Converter, click on convert and get a message there was an "error parsing the image." So I am not able to convert the .orf files to .dng so I can open in ACR as instructed.
Since the E-3 should be supported in Camera Raw according to the adobe website, why am I getting this error message? I really enjoy the flexibility of photoshop Camera Raw and wish to continue. I am able to open the .orf files in Olympus Master 2.0 so I believe the files to be intact.
I have confirmed that the DNG Converter.exe and the Camera Raw file is installed according the Adobe instructions (removed old one, installed new on in the correct folders-Checked and Double Checked.
I rebooted the computer after install. I am still able to open the .orf files from my E-330 in photoshop. So I don't think PS is configured incorrectly and that Camera Raw is functioning.
What is the best and easiest way to open these files in Photoshop? I am stuck with a ton of .ORF images that I cannot open. Please help!

    >Just to clarify: The DNG Converter does not get "installed". It's a stand-alone application to convert the raw files to DNG files first, which you then (later) open in ACR.
Semantics I guess. What I was saying was that I was using the DNG Converter 4.5 (the latest version) and ACR 3.7 (latest version for CS2) and it was in the correct folder according to the instructions that are on the Adobe download instructions. However, I was still following the procedure of trying to convert the .orf file using the DNG Converter, but no success. And since I was unable to convert to .dng, I was unable to attempt to use ACR.
    However, Good news.
Since I did get a response that someone using the same configuration of E-3 and CS2 had no problems converting to .dng, I decided to once again check versions, folders, etc. and then reboot. Now everything is working.
Now I can convert the ORF files to DNG using DNG Converter 4.5, and then open those in ACR 3.7! (Same files, same version, same folder).
Who knows! Operator error - maybe- but I swear I repeatedly check and rebooted last night. Maybe I just held my mouth correctly on this reboot.
Again thank you for all your help. I just hope this helps someone else if they have the same issue. Mysteries...

  • DNG and Olympus XZ-2 ORF raw files

Not sure why this is not working. Using the stand alone DNG converter I select the folder with the ORF files (Olympus raw files) but DNG is not seeing them. It's like they are not there. I know they are there. I am using DNG 8.3. Is it possible this version is not yet supporting these files? Help!!! Thank you. My Olympus camera is a Stylus XZ-2

I am using DNG 8.3. Is it possible this version is not yet supporting these files?
    Correct.
Refer to the following tables to see which cameras are supported. If a camera is not listed then it's not supported.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    https://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/02/camera-raw-8-4-rc-and-dng-converter-8-4-r c-now-available.html
Both indicate that the Olympus XZ-2 is not yet supported in Camera Raw up to and including the pre-release version 8.4.

  • Cannot import ORF-files from Olympus E-520

    Hi,
One of my friends has this problem:
When he plugs in his new Olympus E-520 to iPhoto '08, and clicks 'import', this output comes:
    http://upit.jtw.dk/dl/q29/
Sorry about it being in danish, but basicly what it says is that the files are unreadable, and cannot be imported for that reason. This seems strange to me, as iPhoto should support ORF-files.
Also I have not been able to find anyone with a similar problem on the internet.
    Why Apple, oh why ?..

Is your friend shooting RAW format? If so then the camera is not supported. Mac OS X 10.5: Digital camera RAW formats supported.
Have him try using Image Capture or a card reader to get the files to the desktop and see if they will import from there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • DNG 5.4 does not work well with Olympus E-620

I just installed the DNG converter 5.4 to use with the RAW ORF files from my new Olympus E-620.  The converted images are not the same as the jpg images or the RAW images as converted by the Olympus Master software.  They are duller in the highlights and darker in the shadows.  The difference is NOT small and is readily noticeable in the image and when comparing the histogram.  It looks like part of the problem may be that the Olympus automatic gradation may not be interpreted properly, but the difference is even more than just this.  I can turn this on and off in the Olympus Master and the difference is similar but a greater difference than just this alone.  Further, the Olympus Master software cannot open the DNG files.
I would also like to rgister my high dissatisfaction with the short life of the Adobe software due to the new RAW converters not working with older Photoshop or Lightroom software versions.  I am using Lightroom 1.2 and PS CS3, and I do not want to spen the considerable cost of upgrade only to be able to convert my RAW files.  Also, I do not like to have to convert my RAW files to DNG first, because I loose some of the editing options that I can only do in the Olympus software, and it creates another step in my workflow.

    shedridc wrote:

Well, doh...since Camera Raw is using it's own processing parameters and algorithms, the odds of ACR "matching" the camera makers software is not real high. At some point when ACR 5.4 is finally released Adobe may have some additional DNG Profiles for the camera that may make color a closer match but the tone curve will prolly always needs tweaks. It would behoove you to either create presets that you can apply in Bridge or alter your ACR "Defaults".
    shedridc wrote:

It's been Adobe's policy to only support currently shipping products. As such, customers who upgraded to Ps CS4 can expect about 18 months of free support and Camera Raw updates. Fact is that while you WERE a current customer when you bought CS3 and you got 6 free ACR updates (ACR 4.6 was the last version for CS3), you are no longer a current customer.
You may not like the DNG Converter step, but that's what you have if you wish to use your new camera with your old software...your other alternative is, of course to simply use the software that came with your camera.

  • Trouble showing .orf files in Bridge CS3

Having moved to a new mac I just installed my old CS3 package. Everything seems to work fine but I can no longer see my photos from my Olympus E-3, raw .orf files. I have tried to upgrade Bridge but with no results in that regard. I also added the DNG camera Raw 4.6 plugin to Photoshop which now can open these files. Does anybody know what I can do to see these files in the Bridge browser which I use to select the shots that I want to work on. The other elements of the CS3 package seem to work fine.

That's the wrong location.  ACR is a plug-in that is common to both Photoshop and Bridge, not just Bridge, and it belongs inside your ROOT LEVEL Library, that is in a path beginning with your Hard Disk name.  Note that is NOT your User library:

  • Trouble importing ORF files from E-PL5 into LR5.3

Hello, A small percentage of the RAW files from my Olympus E-PL5 look "blurry" or "out of focus" when viewed using LR5.3 (Windows 8.1).  However, most of the RAW files from this camera look fine when viewed in LR (even pictures from the same shooting session).  When I view the "blurry" files using Olympus Viewer 2, they no longer look out of focus.  I can then edit these files using viewer 2 with no difficulties.  Does anyone have an idea as to what I am doing wrong?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I mean ORF files. Found out after some reading it's due to the version PS10. Converted files to .DNG and then it can be imported. Thanks
