Olympus E-620 tethering ?

is it possible to shoot "tethered" with an Olympus E-620 and Adobe Lightroom 4 and Windows 8.1 ?

Hmmm...
Lightroom tethering relies on the provision, by camera manufacturers, of a Software Development Kit ( SDK) from which Adobe can extract the necessary code to enable tethering.
Canon, Nikon and Leica provide an SDK. Other companies - like Pentax and Sony - don't, which is why there's no tethering support in Lr for their cameras.
But Olympus does provide an SDK, which I understand includes the necessary code for tethering, so maybe Adobe needs a nudge:
Lightroom: Provide tethered capture support for Olympus dSLRs

  • DNG 5.4 does not work well with Olympus E-620

I just installed the DNG converter 5.4 to use with the RAW ORF files from my new Olympus E-620.  The converted images are not the same as the jpg images or the RAW images as converted by the Olympus Master software.  They are duller in the highlights and darker in the shadows.  The difference is NOT small and is readily noticeable in the image and when comparing the histogram.  It looks like part of the problem may be that the Olympus automatic gradation may not be interpreted properly, but the difference is even more than just this.  I can turn this on and off in the Olympus Master and the difference is similar but a greater difference than just this alone.  Further, the Olympus Master software cannot open the DNG files.
I would also like to rgister my high dissatisfaction with the short life of the Adobe software due to the new RAW converters not working with older Photoshop or Lightroom software versions.  I am using Lightroom 1.2 and PS CS3, and I do not want to spen the considerable cost of upgrade only to be able to convert my RAW files.  Also, I do not like to have to convert my RAW files to DNG first, because I loose some of the editing options that I can only do in the Olympus software, and it creates another step in my workflow.

Well, doh...since Camera Raw is using it's own processing parameters and algorithms, the odds of ACR "matching" the camera makers software is not real high. At some point when ACR 5.4 is finally released Adobe may have some additional DNG Profiles for the camera that may make color a closer match but the tone curve will prolly always needs tweaks. It would behoove you to either create presets that you can apply in Bridge or alter your ACR "Defaults".

It's been Adobe's policy to only support currently shipping products. As such, customers who upgraded to Ps CS4 can expect about 18 months of free support and Camera Raw updates. Fact is that while you WERE a current customer when you bought CS3 and you got 6 free ACR updates (ACR 4.6 was the last version for CS3), you are no longer a current customer.
You may not like the DNG Converter step, but that's what you have if you wish to use your new camera with your old software...your other alternative is, of course to simply use the software that came with your camera.

  • Olympus E 620 Orf Files

I just changed cameras to an Olympus E 620. When I download the ORF (raw) pictures I have taken, I can not see them in either iPoto or Aperture. It tells me it is an unecognizable format.

Here is the RAW support list for OS X 10.6 - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825 - the Olympus E 520 is not on it - so that is why it does not work - until Apple and Olympus provide support you will have to use JPEG - or another solution - sometimes Adobe supports some RAW formats earlier than Apple

  • Olympus E-620 update availability

I am hoping that someone may be able to help. When I try and import my Olympus e-620 RAW photos into Lightroom, LR says that the files are unsupported.
Does anyone know how I can do this.  When I asked Adobe Lightroom support whether there was a  plug-in available or one pending, their response was unprofessional and off-the cuff. I quote part of their response:
" Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee if this update will indeed be created, and if there will be a development for this update"
Any help would be appreciated as I did not expect this kind of response by Adobe for a major product release by Olympus cameras and purchased Lightroom on the basis of using the E-620 with it.

Updated new camera profiles are included in Adobe Camera Raw; Lightroom; Adobe DNG Converter at intervals of 3 to 4 months the last update was issued arround  March 7th 09.
This included the profile for Olympus E30 but the E 620 was not yet available in the market. I would expect the update for the E620 to be included in the next update. You are not likely to get any further information from Adobe or Olympus for that matter.
The same applies to all cameras issued since the last update regardless of the manufacturer.

  • Current CS4 Bridge doesn't recognize Olympus E-620 RAW.  Why?

    1.  I have updated everything via Adobe updater (AUG 2009) and yet Bridge doesn't render the Olympus E620 RAW files as a thumbnail.    Does anyone know what in the world is going on?
This shouldn't be the case because adobe does support the Olympus E620 RAW files;  I'm able to use DNG to convert the E-620 RAW files to DNG.   The current version of ACR also is able to open up the E620 RAW files.    Thus, there is just some strange thing going on with Bridge in which it can't render a preview of the RAW file.
    2.  Any help much appreciated because this is really driving me nuts.
    Thanks.  Harry Shin

Have you already tried to purge the cache. Point bridge to the folder with
the icon files and go to the menu tools / cache / purge cache for folder.

  • My Olympus E-620 and various lens do not appear in the camera profiles

Can the profile of my camera and various lens be added to the Lightroom profiles

    Hi David,
It maybe that there are no profiles available for Olympus. I assume it’s an Olympus lens? I can’t see anything in LR5.6 using another raw file, although as you say many other manufacturers are listed.
You could try the tools at Adobe Labs either to download or create your own profile. Use the link below and scroll down to Adobe Lens Profile Creator or Adobe Lens Profile Downloader.

  • Support for Olympus E-620 and Lens

I don't see any support for Olympus in ACR 6.2. Where is it?

The camera itself is supported.  That means it is possible to work on the raw files in Camera Raw.  But there is no support for the lens.  That is a different profile.  It will be necessary for you to wait and see if the profile is eventually provided, create one yourself, or see if there is one available online.

  • RAW Olympus e-620 support, when?

I have purchased the camera, and the RAW is not available Through Apple for iPhoto for instance. When will this be available?

It's good to know that this works. I have yet to try it, or even decide whether or not ever to try it, as I am so very disappointed with the lack of support for the Olympus E-3 .ORF files in the latest OS X update as well as A2, and am really feeling pushed by Apple toward Adobe. I don't want to go there (other than to continue with my long-standing use of Photoshop), but I also really don't want to add another step (conversion to .DNG) to my workflow, so I haven't even downloaded the A2 trial. The .DNG stuff really feels like being relegated to less than equal, second-class status when it comes to obtaining the very best possible image quality from native RAW files. Maybe I just don't understand .DNG very well; I'd welcome further enlightenment in this area. It seems sadly ironic to me that to get any sort of RAW file access in A2 right now, I'd have to use an Adobe product (the free .DNG converter), but if I went to A2's Adobe competitor, my Olympus E-3 .ORFs would be handled natively. This just seems crazy to me.

  • Bridge doesn't recognize Oly E-620 files with ACR 5.4 Beta

    hi:
    1.  the good news--> ACR 5.4 is working well as well as DNG.
    2.  problem:  when i open up bridge (CS4), the new RAW files (example:  olympus E-620) don't show up as thumbnails.    i looked around in the preferences, but couldn't see anything that would fix this situation.   any help appreciated.
    thanks.  harry shin

    hi:
    1.  thanks for the reply--> but purging the cache didn't help.
    2.  in re: installation, perhaps there is a different way to install ACR 5.4, but all i did was run the installer.  ACR is certainly working within photoshop CS4 and thus i'm assuming that it should be working in bridge (?)
    3.  any further ideas appreciated.

  • Olympus Raw files

Need Help. I've purchased a new Olympus E 620 camera and have the Ps /Cs3 design suite, now 18months old . I am unable to import camera raw images via bridge or directly into Ps 3 using any of the camera Raw 5.4 or DNG plug-ins. Can I purchase an upgrade for Cs3 to Cs4 for Ps only that will work within Cs3. I am becoming very tired of paying big dollars for very recent programmes that will not work with the latest technology. Will this fix the problem . Thank you for any thoughts and help available

  • RAWs from Olympus E-30 shifted to left and top

    Hi folks,
importing RAW from an Olympus E-30 shows some strange results: The photos are shifted to the left and upper by appr. 15 pixels. This content is lost, thereby offering some new content on the right and lower side. It looks like if the coordinates of origin are scrambled...?
For to check I used the camera setting "create /both/ JPG /and/ RAW" simultaneously, and compared the .jpg and .orf side by side.
This occurs on two different Macs, within iPhoto, Preview etc..
For comparison I tried an Olympus E-620 as well, all fine: .jpg. and .orf show exactly the same crop. Using the albeit not-so-usable Olympus Software works fine with the E-30 shots, may be as it converts the RAWs on its own.
So far the RAW from the E-30 is not usable at all on the Macs with the Mac's software, as composition of a photo usually starts in that edge which gets cut, left and top...
Any ideas what I can do? If you need example shots let me now!
Macs on Snow Leopard with all patches 10.6.7, iPhoto 9.1.2. The Olympus E-30 has the most current firmware 1.1.
    Kind regards,
    Kai

Okay I've searched some more on the Aperture and iPhoto forums and cannot see similar queries. There are some that complain about the colour and others about the amount of sharpening, but nothing I can find like this - and you have to figure that if every E-30 owner suffered from the issue that s/he would be complaining.
That, to me, suggests that the issue may be local to your machine.
Does it occur in other User accounts?
Have you tried importing the Raws to another Mac for comparison.?

  • Snow leopard and orf file from Olympus OMD EM1

Hello, is there any chance to see the preview of these orf file without upgrading to 10.8.5 or later?
I have Aperture 3.2.4 with Digital Camera Raw 3.13.0 and it works fine with the Olympus E 620 orf files.
I can see the preview of these orf also from desktop. without opening Aperture.
Upgrading to Olympus OMD EM1, the new orf files aren't read anymore...it seems that  I need Digital camera Raw 5.03 to see them, but the dmg can't be opened with 10.6.8....
I don't want to upgrade , because I like very much Snow leopard, but it is frustrating not to see the preview of the Olympus EM1 orf files...every time I have to open them with Olympus Raw Converter ( Olympus Viewer 3), that is very slow....
    Any suggestion?
    Thank You for the attention
    Bye
    Susanna

Hy Brody, thank You for your kind reply
I think that I won't be able to fix this because I've read somewhere that Preview share the same raw converter of Aperture and IPhoto, but I run Aperture 3.2.4 ( Aperture 3.5 is required for EM1 and doesn't support my SL !!) and a very old Iphoto ( I don't use it since a long time ago), that I can upgrade only to 9.2.3.
Now I must find if Iphoto 9.2.3 can open these raw from EM1, so probably also Preview could...but I'm not hopefully.
    Thank U very much again!!

  • RAW compatibility problem with E-620 with RAW update 3.2

Still can't read RAW file from my Olympus E-620 after installing the latest RAW update 3.2. Also, used to convert my Olympus RAW file (from my E-620) into DNG file and it worked just fine. Since I have installed the latest RAW update 3.2, Aperture can't support those files (.DNG) as well.
    Anybody can help.

    Hi David...
I put it to him that a Vault solution and re-install might be his only option, but I don't think he has a Vault back up which is a shame, a lesson on good back up practise for all reading this thread sitting there in that comfy chair thinking it'll never happen to me ......
He has a time capsule back up of his library so all is not completely lost, just all the metadata, keywords, edits..... so hopefully an upgrade to Ap3 & re install library from TC and the option to do a complete re edit of a library..... can be an interesting exercise actually to see how your taste in editing changes after a period of time..... Quite often for the better.

Just to add some fire. I compared some of my D90 (12MP) with some 7D files I have and... mine are as good, have less chroma noise and Aperture is faster with it (since the files are smaller). I do think Canon did put to many pixels on the sensor given its size. Nikon as a better quality per pixel (for now, Canon will probably correct this for its next line). That's not the first time I read this kind of comment about the 7D. I don't know how the 50D compares.
