Olympus E-PL1 RAW ??

I was very happy when the E-P1 and 2 were supported and can't help but wonder when Aperture will support the RAW files for the very similar E-PL...
Wondering if anyone might have any thoughts on the subject?
Many thanks for any help and/or info.

The E-PL1 has only been on the market for a couple of months. Watch out for support for it in the next release of +Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update+ (not Aperture). The [last Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update |http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1007] was v3.1, so there's a reasonable chance that v3.2 will provide support for your new camera. Probably sometime in the next four to six weeks.

Gary

  • When will Apple update for Olympus E-PL1 RAW???

Just frustrated that RAW files from my Olympus E-PL1 are not supported in Aperture 3.

Unfortunately, no one here knows what plans Apple have for supporting this - or any - camera. Aperture menu -> Provide Aperture Feedback and let them know you want it.

  • Olympus E-PL1 Raw format unsupported.

I cannot get my MacBook or My Imac, both running OS10.6.3 and Aperture 3.03, to recognize the raw from my Olympus E-PL1. The Raw is a .ORF format. What do I do? The raw plugin is available for photoshop [which I don't have] so I know it's available someplace.

Hi and welcome to the forum
You are right, your camera is not supported....http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
All I can suggest is that you provide feedback to Apple.. http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html
Hopefully it will be supported soon....

  • IPhoto support for Olympus E-PL1 raw

iPhoto 9 can't recognize raw files from this camera. Will apple issue and update soon. Is there a work around?

I agree with other folks' comments; FYI Olympus has a Mac version of their software "Olympus Master 2" which works ...OK. It's slow as snot but it has code to do the software corrections for lenses (from what I know and for those who don't know the micro-4/3 format stuff, the cameras have in-camera software correction for lens effects, but the RAW format is pre-correction so color-fringing and the like are evident and you can witness the software correcting for it, which is probably why it runs so darned slow!)
So if you would like RAW support in a native app, Olympus Master 2 is an option and it runs on Snow Leopard just fine.
An open question I have is if I had the Panasonic pancake lens (f1.5, YOW) could I use my Oly and import the RAW into a tool that can correct for the Panasonic's lens effects?
Yeah, generally you won't care/notice but if you're shooting RAW, you're picky.

  • Iphoto can't read RAW files from Olympus E-PL1

I just got an Olympus E-PL1. Iphoto doesn't recognize the RAW file with the extenstion .ORF
The E-PL1 has the same sensor as the P1 and P2. I would assume that both those generate the same RAW data.

Until the camera is supported try converting the files to .dmg file with the Adobe DNG Converter 6.1 which iPhoto supports. Many pros use the dmg format.

  • "unsupported image file" when importing RAW images from Olympus E-PL1

When I try to import images save in RAW format on the camera, the images import but they can't be displayed (all I get is a warning triangle with the words "unsupported image format" below it, though in the import preview the images are displayed properly.
EDIT: just noticed that the E-PL1 isn't listed as being supported, just the E-P1 & 2

Apple have just included RAW support for the Olympus E-PL1 with the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.3 - iPhoto can now import RAW files from the E-PL1.

  • I-Photo 11 not recognizing Olympus E-PL1?

Just bought an Olympuse E-PL1 before Christmas.
IPhoto 11 doesn't recognize the camera - (calls it unknown or something like that).   It will download the photos - but then sends them to the beginning of my events rather than the end.  I downloaded some raw images - seemed to take them - but not certain.
I never had this problem with a Nikon I previously owned.
Local Apple store say's it shouldn't be a problem since Raw Camera updates are backward compatible and I downloaded the latest Raw Camera update.
    Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks for responding and sorry for any the confusion in my question.
With my previous Nikon when I downloaded pictures in I-Photo it (something) identified the camera in I-Photo because Nikon D60 popped up in the left hand corner as the download began - that is not happening with the new Olympus - instead I'm getting "unknown camera" or something like that.  I realize thats not neccessarily a problem but after being used to the Nikon it was unusual.
As to my second issue - when downloading from the Nikon the images all went to the bottom of the Events, where I could easily name etc.  Now the images are going to the top of Events so then i have to drag them down to the bottom - again this is something new with the Olympus. I checked out the view menu on I-Photo - but that doesn't seem to help.  I don't want the existing events re-sorted - what I want is for new downloads to go to the bottom of the Events.
Finally yes I checked and RAW photos from the Olympus are being downloaded as RAW.

  • Aperture Olympus E-PL2 Raw Color Distortion and other issues

Hello there, Olympus Micro Four Thirds Fans!
So finally, Apple introduced Olympus E-PL2 Raw Support in Aperture 3. After some testing and troubleshooting there are still some issues remaining that sort of still leave the Raw option unusable for me:
The Apple Raw developer does not seam to read Olympus gradation curve settings properly. I usually leave the cameras color mode to "natural" which in JPEG gives the Olympus-typical beautiful documentary-style color accuracy. However, in Raw, colors get distorted in the most unpleasant way! Especially the greens get horribly oversaturated.
Noise reduction settings also are not correctly translated. I'm the type of Raw user who always wants to start from the camera settings chosen and who then wants to be able to tweak settings to perfection just a little bit. But all in all I chose an Olympus camera, because it does deliver superb white balance metering, decent noise reduction and beautiful color gradation right out-of-the-box.
SPEED! Aperture seems to be horribly horribly slow with Olympus .orf files. Lightroom is easily ten times faster in real-time developing of Raw files.
Did someone observe the same behaviour? How do you work around these issues, what is the best setup for the apple raw developer?
    Greetings from Esslingen am Neckar!

    Hi there!
I am now developing my raw files with Olympus Viewer. It is the only software solution that would deliver results close or identical to Olymus built in JPEG engine. Most of the time I need to get color reproduction that is as subtle and fine as the Olympus engine, but I do want to benefit from all the other postprocessing advantages that RAW has to offer.
Within Aperture I have not been able to get comparable color rendering.

  • Aperture 3.1.3 and Olympus E-PL2 RAW files

    Hi all;
    I'm using Aperture 3.1.3 on a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz, 8 gig RAM. OS is OS X 10.7
My new Olympus E-PL2 RAW files  (.ORF) do not seem to be compatible, despite Apple indicating that they are supported. The corresponding DNG files produce the same error message.  Whenever I try to export or use a plug-in, I get the following message:
    Editing Error
This image cannot be renedered for editing
because Aperture does not support the image format.
Does anyone have any recommendations for fixing this issue?
    Thanks!!
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
I'm running a similar configuration (hardware and camera) and I'm able to edit RAW in Aperture/Lion. Do you have all other s/w maintainance applied?
Only problem I've seen since Lion is problems with images not on the MBP, in particular my NAS library is no inaccessible.

  • Problems with Lightroom 5.2 and Olympus EM-1 RAW files?

There have been reports on DPREVIEW of color problems using Lightroom 5.2 with RAW files from the Olympus OM-D EM-1 camera.  This causes  difficulty creating camera profiles, and creates a red shift in Images.  JPG images are unaffected.
    Anyone else seeing this?
When may we look forward to LR 5.3, hopefully with a fix?
    Thanks............... Jack Winberg

The read me file from Adobe indicate that LR 5.2 has "preliminary" support for the Olympus EM-1 raw files.
I would make sure you keep your original raw files so they can be converted when the support is finalized. i.e. I would not convert to dng on import if that is your normal workflow.

  • Heavily Jagged Curves/Diagonals on Olympus EP-L1 RAW Files and possibly the whole PEN Family

    Hello everybody
I have a serious situation here. My Olympus EP-L1 raw files have serious jagged diagonals. It's only visible on sharp curved surfaces. I ran some test on straight sharp diagonals from 45º to 0º but found no artifacts. Here is a comparison between in-camera jpeg and .ORF converted to DNG in Lightroom 3.3, ACR 6.3. BTW, this is visible on .ORF files as well as DNG. I took these photos with RAW+JPEG at full resolution, highest quality.
    Full thread and samples here
    Thanks

  • When will Apple update for Olympus E-5 RAW?

When will Apple update Aperture for Olympus E-5 RAW?

This is starting to annoy me at a level where I'm considering switching to Lightroom when they release a new major version number.
The D7000 hit the shelves about the same time as the E-5 and it's included in the latest update. I realize that Olympus is not exactly mainstream but neither is Aperture. If Apple wants to keep us happy then they must act within this year to supply that update. I doubt that will happen though.

  • Bug in Crop tool with Olympus E-M5 raw files (ORF)

There is a bug in the crop tool with Olympus OM-D E-M5 RAW files (ORF) that is still not fixed with the recent update.  Here is how to reproduce the problem.
I setup my E-M5 camera picture aspect ratio to 3:2 (instead of the sensor 4:3) and file format to RAW.
    I take a picture.
I import the picture in Lightroom.  The first thumbnail I see is the full sensor, then Lightroom computes a new thumbnail and correctly display the 3:2 crop factor.
I select the picture in the library and press [R] to bring the Crop tool.
BUG: The Crop tool does not let me recover the full 4:3 sensor image and is locked to the 3:2 crop factor.
    Can this be fixed?  Thanks

Are you sure you mean Photoshop version 6 the is a very old version of Photoshop before ACR existed. ACR first became available as a extra cost plug-in for Photoshop version 7.  ACR started to be shipped with Photoshop with  Photoshop CS. Each version since Photoshop CS has a newer version of ACR which is not compatible with older versions of Photoshop. So
    CS ACR version is 2.4
    CS2 ACR version 3.7
    CS3 ACR version 4.6
    CS4  ACR version 5.7
    CS5 ACR version 6.7
CS6 and CC ACR version 8.4 however the new features in ACR 8.4 for CC are crippled in CS6. CS6 just get the new Camera support.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=39&platform=Windows
If you have CS6 use menu help>Updates it should find the ACR 8.4 for CS6 and update your installation. If it does not you can down load it and the DNG converter.  However don't convert to DNG just use your OFR RAW files.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2014/04/camera-raw-8-4-and-dng-converter-8-4-now-a vailable.html
If you do mean Photoshop version 6 you need to see if Olympus  has a RAW converter for Photoshop version 6 for your camera.

  • Olympus E-PM1 raw files

Does anyone know how I can edit Olympus E-PM1 raw files in Photoshop elements?....is there a plugin or something?

Can you look at what version of Camera Raw you have. Launch the Editor and click the menu:
    Help >> About Plug-in >> Camera Raw
You should see a version number on a pop-up (press Esc to close) and it needs to be version 6.5 or later.

    Hi phxbails,
Sorry to get back to you so late, but it is not always easy to find out what products we intend on carrying in the future. I did look into this, and we will be carrying the Olympus E-PL1 micro four thirds interchangeable lens camera. It should be available for purchase from us soon!
    I hope this helps!
