Olympus E-PL1

I'm interested in buying an Olympus E-PL1 and was wondering how soon you will be stocking that model in stores?
Regards,
Matt

Hi phxbails,
Sorry to get back to you so late, but it is not always easy to find out what products we intend on carrying in the future. I did look into this, and we will be carrying the Olympus E-PL1 micro four thirds interchangeable lens camera. It should be available for purchase from us soon!
I hope this helps!

  • Iphoto can't read RAW files from Olympus E-PL1

I just got an Olympus E-PL1. Iphoto doesn't recognize the RAW file with the extenstion .ORF
The E-PL1 has the same sensor as the P1 and P2. I would assume that both those generate the same RAW data.

Until the camera is supported try converting the files to .dmg file with the Adobe DNG Converter 6.1 which iPhoto supports. Many pros use the dmg format.

  • When will Apple update for Olympus E-PL1 RAW???

Just frustrated that RAW files from my Olympus E-PL1 are not supported in Aperture 3.

Unfortunately, no one here knows what plans Apple have for supporting this - or any - camera. Aperture menu -> Provide Aperture Feedback and let them know you want it.

  • "unsupported image file" when importing RAW images from Olympus E-PL1

When I try to import images save in RAW format on the camera, the images import but they can't be displayed (all I get is a warning triangle with the words "unsupported image format" below it, though in the import preview the images are displayed properly.
EDIT: just noticed that the E-PL1 isn't listed as being supported, just the E-P1 & 2
    Message was edited by: drathquark

Apple have just included RAW support for the Olympus E-PL1 with the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.3 - iPhoto can now import RAW files from the E-PL1.

  • Olympus E-PL1 Raw format unsupported.

I cannot get my MacBook or My Imac, both running OS10.6.3 and Aperture 3.03, to recognize the raw from my Olympus E-PL1. The Raw is a .ORF format. What do I do? The raw plugin is available for photoshop [which I don't have] so I know it's available someplace.

Hi and welcome to the forum
You are right, your camera is not supported....http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
All I can suggest is that you provide feedback to Apple.. http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html
Hopefully it will be supported soon....

  • Import from Olympus E-PL1?

How do I adjust my easy setup before importing from my Olympus E-PL1 camera? The manual says it's a HD(720p)camera, but I can't find a good setting. The movies look good in the viewer but blurry and bad after exporting.
    Any tips?

Wait. I just realized a little problem. You're in Norway. This camera shoots in a non-standard frame rate, one used neither in North America or Europe. I assumed because the camera shoots 30fps, you'd want to convert to 29.97, which is the frame rate used in North America and Japan. However, if you want to use your video on a television set, you'd need to convert to 25fps. This is a problem. 30fps to 29.97fps is basically the same frame rate, just a touch slower. 30 to 25 means frame interpolation has to be done and this is not so easy and doesn't always look so great. So before we get into what you use in FCE you'll need to figure out where you're going with this video. In FCE you'd use an easey setp that matched your media HDV AIC 720p30 (actually 29.97) or 720p25.

  • I-Photo 11 not recognizing Olympus E-PL1?

Just bought an Olympuse E-PL1 before Christmas.
IPhoto 11 doesn't recognize the camera - (calls it unknown or something like that).   It will download the photos - but then sends them to the beginning of my events rather than the end.  I downloaded some raw images - seemed to take them - but not certain.
I never had this problem with a Nikon I previously owned.
Local Apple store say's it shouldn't be a problem since Raw Camera updates are backward compatible and I downloaded the latest Raw Camera update.
    Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks for responding and sorry for any the confusion in my question.
With my previous Nikon when I downloaded pictures in I-Photo it (something) identified the camera in I-Photo because Nikon D60 popped up in the left hand corner as the download began - that is not happening with the new Olympus - instead I'm getting "unknown camera" or something like that.  I realize thats not neccessarily a problem but after being used to the Nikon it was unusual.
As to my second issue - when downloading from the Nikon the images all went to the bottom of the Events, where I could easily name etc.  Now the images are going to the top of Events so then i have to drag them down to the bottom - again this is something new with the Olympus. I checked out the view menu on I-Photo - but that doesn't seem to help.  I don't want the existing events re-sorted - what I want is for new downloads to go to the bottom of the Events.
Finally yes I checked and RAW photos from the Olympus are being downloaded as RAW.

  • Why Olympus e-PL1 keeps conforming everytime PR starts.

    Hi,
I'm working on a 720p project involving clips taken with the Olympus e-PL1 digital SLR.  But every time I load the project, the clips conrom all over again.  They do it quite fast, so I assume only the audio is being reconformed.
Any idea why it does that and how I can fix it?
    Thanks!
    Martin

Did you store the files on your dedicated internal SATA drive?

  • IPhoto support for Olympus E-PL1 raw

iPhoto 9 can't recognize raw files from this camera. Will apple issue and update soon. Is there a work around?

I agree with other folks' comments; FYI Olympus has a Mac version of their software "Olympus Master 2" which works ...OK. It's slow as snot but it has code to do the software corrections for lenses (from what I know and for those who don't know the micro-4/3 format stuff, the cameras have in-camera software correction for lens effects, but the RAW format is pre-correction so color-fringing and the like are evident and you can witness the software correcting for it, which is probably why it runs so darned slow!)
So if you would like RAW support in a native app, Olympus Master 2 is an option and it runs on Snow Leopard just fine.
An open question I have is if I had the Panasonic pancake lens (f1.5, YOW) could I use my Oly and import the RAW into a tool that can correct for the Panasonic's lens effects?
Yeah, generally you won't care/notice but if you're shooting RAW, you're picky.

  • Olympus E-PL1 RAW ??

I was very happy when the E-P1 and 2 were supported and can't help but wonder when Aperture will support the RAW files for the very similar E-PL...
Wondering if anyone might have any thoughts on the subject?
Many thanks for any help and/or info.

The E-PL1 has only been on the market for a couple of months. Watch out for support for it in the next release of +Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update+ (not Aperture). The [last Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update |http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1007] was v3.1, so there's a reasonable chance that v3.2 will provide support for your new camera. Probably sometime in the next four to six weeks.

  • E-pl1 yellow/green colour blotches at high iso

Hello to all members and Adobe Team.
i use lightroom 3.3 and i have made a comparison between my 2 cameras with the same sensor , e-p1 and e-pl1 and e-p1, and while they have identical grain like pattern and rendering at high iso (which is what i was expecting since they have the same sensor and only the Anti-Aliasing filter is lighter in e-pl1), colour rendering at high iso is very different (at low iso its different but i have profiles with colorchecker and the differences are minor).
So i will post raw files in tungsten lighting (the most demanding for high iso-.-- 1600 i mean and even at 800 i can clearly see the problems i am describing).
Olympus e-pL1 white balance is really, but really bad.. everything turns green (its really bothering to adjust and affects low iso images too... i spent so much time correcting the green cast but there is something that i can never get right).
There are green/yellow/orange and purple/blue blotches at high iso.... it happens in tungsten lighting and fluorescent (less so at fluorescent, but still), those green/yellow blotches appear in uniform color areas that are in shadows its like a tint and there is nothing of this sort in e-p1 at iso1600 and even much higher isos have this kind of noise well distributed by all colour channels (they are usually small blotches/spots a little to the irregular round shap but sometimes have big size and very irregular shape).
I believe its something in the blue channel but in the green channel also!
Reds and colours at high iso are much more saturated in e-pl1 than in e-p1 (and from imaging-resource samples and dpreview e-pl1 its one of the cameras which has more saturated colours at high iso which sometimes it looks they are clipping channels).
By the way this is not something just related to these testfiles it happens in almost all high iso files i believe different colour rendereing/demosaic would do much better.
Here are the raw files, the first one is Olympus e-pl1:
    http://hotfile.com/dl/117408120/41b0f01/P5109784.ORF.html
The second one is Olympus e-p1:
    http://hotfile.com/dl/117408591/5eab708/P5107466.ORF.html
Notice in the blue trip Samsonite bag there are much more blue blotches with the chroma noise slider at 0 (even at 25 there is a difference in Dynamic range between e-p1 and e-pl1, when all review sites clearly say that e-pl1 is a little better at high iso even in raw, and its not just because it has more detail that you can use to kill a little grain and make things equal).
Please dont post or use this photos as examples as they are not flattering... they are just for Adobe engineers or private testing by users not for posting in other forums.
So Olympus cameras and Panasonic camera sensors all exibiht this problem but i have never seen something like this.... the cameras are quite good at iso1600 except all shadows have that tint even with chroma noise sliders at 40 they never disappear ... is it possible to solve the colour demosaicing and left intact the luminance one?
Please be kind to m43 cameras since they are selling very well and i think they dont have proper support... ( i bet if this was a problem with Canon or Nikon it would be corrected in a time... we dont have coustum profiles but there is a solution for that... although for this problem we dont have better solution since its too selective and only in shadows).
By the way in Rawtherapee i have made adjustments in channel mixer (the levels of green that the blue channel has are very high; so i took a little green (and just a tiny bit of red) and the shadow areas start getting rid of the green dots, so here it is a HINT) and there were many improvements almost making them disappear... however i want to use lightroom not rawtherapee with AMAZE demosaicing.
Oh by the way look at Rawtherapee way of removing colour moiré with AMAze algorithm its fantastic it gives you detail back and no colour moire which shows a lot with e-pl1 in lightroom (but i know its because of lighter AA filter and its not a priority).
    Thanks for your help!

Well if you search in the middle of the image you will see at 100% that the open bag has those green spots where it should be gray! and near the door at bottom left of the image you will see those green spots that are very distracting because they happen in shadow areas... (and by the way the red cloth is not the same red as the e-p1 image and its noticeable even at small size).
What white balance did you use?
I know these are just test shots but they appear in people shots too..
Im going to prove that ACR interpretation of olympus auto white balance in olympus e-pl1 is just horrenduos with this raw file (by the way i use this one since its one of the ones with less publicity and with the most straight forward uploading, if you know one that is better to upload tell me please).
    http://hotfile.com/dl/117520711/fceaefb/P4248867.ORF.html
Now try white balance at 2850 and tint at 0 (things improve).
Now look at the clock.. it has a contour with the wall that is green/yellow its that kind of problem (i have noise reduction in teh color at 50 and in the detail at 25 to try to mitigate its effect but still not much luck).
Next i will go to the HSL tools in lightroom and select yellow color and select saturation tab and dial in -30 for yellow and voilá! it has reached the kind of performance that i see with e-p1 (a little worse but almost unnoticeable),.. adobe should correct this problem in lightroom 3.5 please.
then i used the split toning slider and in the shadows i dial in hue at 340 and saturation at 10 and there was a bigger reduction in the yellow spots so its the default rendering that is a mess (by the way sometimes if i reduce saturation in the green and in the blue channel it helps a little too like -30 in each) so try to correct these please, if possible by not dessaturate the channels but with an algorithm that detects only those kinds of spots and not all yellow info like you do in the red channel so well!!
    Thanks

  • How to open and view RAW photo's in Elements?

How do I open RAW pictures from an Olympus PEN E-PL1 in Photoshop Elements 5.0?
Have owned Elements 5.0 for several years, but just loaded it and now I'm trying to learn how to improve my underwater photo's by taking pics in RAW so they can be edited. Unfortunatly, Elements 5.0 doesn't recogonize the RAW pictures from my Olympus PEN E-PL1.
Do I simply update something in it? Or is it an app I need to download and add into it? Or is there another way to convert them to DNG file so they will be recognized?
If this has been covered already, then please point me in the right direction.
    Thanks,
    tripntx

    tripntx:
The Olympus E-PL1 wasn't supported by Adobe Camera Raw until version 5.7. The latest version of Camera Raw that you can use with Elements 5 is version 4.6.
This means that you can't natively open the raw files from your Olympus in Elements 5.
You can, however, convert the raw images to DNGs, and then open the resulting DNGs in Elements 5. (You can even embed the original raw file in the DNG for archival/preservation purposes, to take up less storage space and make it easier to organize/manage your files.) You can download the DNG Converter application here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4803
(DNG Converter is a pretty straight forward application, but the ReadMe PDF contains instructions for its use if you need it.)
Alternatively, you could upgrade to Elements 8 or 9, and the photos from your camera would be natively supported. (Note that you'd need to update the Camera Raw plug-in in Elements 8 before you could open your photos; this download is available here in case you need it.)

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 vs.12

Krumme Linien werden also gerade gerückt.

Was meinst du mit 16 Bit Unterstüztung?

  • LR4 doesn't import video files .avi and cannot playback

    Hello,
I have a big issue with my brand new Lightroom 4.
I've been working on my updated catalog (from LR3) very well, since I tried to import fotos and videos from my second camera (olympus E-PL1).
This "old" catalog contains RAW files (NEF and ORF), Jpeg and Video files (.avi).
In LR3 I had no problems in importing video file and in playing the back with the external player.
Now in LR4 is a real disaster!
I cannot even import .avi files properly.
LR is importing fotos but is giving a failure message on most of the video (avi) file.
Sometimes it imports just few videos and sometimes none of them.
I've tried to import them in differnt way: from camera directly, from a card reader, from an external drive and even from the c: hard drive. i've tried to move, and to add them in catalog. NO WAY!
I've also tried to clean the video cache: no changes. To disable GL accelerator: no results. I have no further idea.
I can play these video files in all applications, from WMP to Quicktime. I have also Vlan installed.
Furthermore, while trying to import or playback videos. LR4 is slowing up in a very strange way. And sometime is crashing the last imported session (files not foud)
I've tried to reinstall it, but I didn't see any different result.
I've searched everywhere in the web for a possible solution, but I didn't find anything.
Avi file I'm talking about are coming from a olympus camera E-PL1, they are in 720p.
Please help me, beacuse I am very disappointed wih thios new video feature.
    Thank you in advance!
    Marco

Yes, I did and I got a strange outcome.
I checked Quicktime, and I reinstalled it.
    I restarted the PC.
    When LR4 opens, the processes
    dynamiclinkmanager.exe
    dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe
    Adobe QT32 Server.exe.
    are not working.
After I opened the import dialog these services started.
For the first time after restarting the PC; I could import a small video and I could playback it without problems.
The second try of importing more videos (4 small ones), went well, but at the playback moment, everything freezed again.
I tried to restart lightroom and to kill the processes listed above, but I had no luck.
Only restarting the PC I could (and not always) importing the videos. The playback did work just few times.
If the first task, after restarting the PC and Lightroom is importing (without waiting the previews of the importing box) generally there is no problem.
If I work with my catalog, which contains videos as well, then the importing dialog (for videos) is not working.
The playback feature seems to be a matter of luck, 90% ot times is not working well.
    I run a Windows 7 64 bit machine.
A similar problem was reported as a bug in this post, and if so I wonder why there are not many other users reporting the same problems.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/973059?tstart=30
I really hope I can solve it, without waiting for a bug fix.
    Thank you

  • Image Rotation Problem in LR 3.2RC

Anyone else having an issue with image rotation in Lightroom 3.2C?
    Here's what happens:
I import images from my card. There are a combination of images taken horizontally and vertically. The vertical images come in sideways (horizontally). This is no big deal: maybe the cameras I was using in this case (Olympus E-PL1 and Panasonic GF1) don't properly mark the orientation.
So, in Grid view,  I select one of the improperly orientated images and click the "Rotate Photo Left" arrow in the toolbar. Here's where it gets weird. Instead of rotating the image 90-degrees counter clockwise, the thumbnail rotates about 45-degrees, so now it's crooked in Grid view. However, on my second monitor, the image now looks properly orientated.
I've tried rotating using the menu (Photo menu / Rotate Left) and got the same result. If I repeatedly rotate, it ends up in all sorts of odd positions in grid mode.
What's up with this? Is it just me?
    Alan
    PhotoCitizen.com

Restarted Lightroom and all looks good now. I'll be interested to see if the problem returns next time I import images.
UPDATE: I spoke too soon. Closed LR3 and opened it again. No, the cockeyed thumbnails are not saved at their odd angles. But they still don't match the image shown on my 2nd monitor (or on my main monitor either if I go to Loupe View). The Grid view image might show the vertical image lying on its side (horizontal), even though the 2nd monitor shows it in the correct orientation.
This happens with horizontal images too if I try to rotate them - something I tried just now but wouldn't normally need to do.
Trying to rotate the thumbnail again results in the cockeyed thumbnail. If I then CLICK on that thumbnail, it straightens out, but never in the correct orientation. Here's a screen grab:
Something seriously wrong here. Something that NEVER happend in Lightroom 3 until I installed version 3.2RC. So, I doubt that it's a video card problem - looks like a bug to me.
