Query reg. Resource and time allocation in cProjects
Wondering if someone can answer this query related to - Resource and time allocation in cProjects.
I understand the following regarding creating cProject -
1 - Project manager creates a cProject for any upcoming new project in the organization.
2 - Phases and Tasks will be created automatically (at our end) based on the template selected while creating the cProject.
3 - Project manager assigns the resources to the project.
4 - Allocate start date and end date for the resources against Tasks or Phase -
> This is the point where there isn't enough documentation to help me progress further. Please can someone suggest how and where do we specify the start date and end date to a resource in cProject.
A sample document on the BEST approach to create cProject, assign reources to tasks, allocate start date and end date would indeed help further clarify my doubt.
I wante to create a cProject with various tasks, assign resources, start and end date for each task. As the project progresses,
I want to execute a report to track the progress of this cProject as resources go on completing a task.
Thanks,
RBHi Pramod,
Thanks for your reply. Below are some queries based on few points mentioned by you.
Allocate start date and end date for the resources against Tasks or Phase -
When we prepare Project template, we define all project structure with phase, tasks, milestones, etc. - OK
Also we define phase and task depedency, duration for tasks. - OK
In actual Project execution PM creates project with reference to template, he add or delete any task / phase, changes duration if required. - How do you change duration of the task ? What series of events or clicks need to be followed ? Would be nice if atleast one option is listed.
While in project planning, planner has to enter start and end date for project. - OK
cProject scedules all other dates accordingly. We need not to go to individual phase or task to adjust dates. one can adjust only duration and depency to get required dates for tasks. This is standard planning phelosophy used in CPR, MSP or Primavra I believe. - At phase level, I can see Earliest start + finish and Latest start + finish dates populated automatically. In addition Start date constraint and Finish data constraints fields are available and empty. Is it mandatory to enter these dates ?
While doing resource assignment, the start and end dates are coming from task assigned to particular Project Role. - At Task level, I can see Earliest start + finish and Latest start + finish dates populated automatically. In addition Start date constraint and Finish data constraints fields are available and empty. Is it mandatory to enter these dates ?
cProjects automatically schedules the plan in create status, once the project released and actual status updated in cProjects, Project plan needs to schedules manually with help of schedule button in Project menu.- When I click Schedule button, message - Bottom-up scheduling was carried out is populated on screen. What is Bottom-up scheduling ?
Would be nice to get reply to above queries.
Thanks,

Java proxy client logical port transport to Q and prod issue in target addr
Hi All,
I have a java proxy client having a logical port (configured using NWDS) to consume a web service in the provider system.
In the logical port, I have given target address, and logical port name. While moving this client proxy NWDI dev track to Q and prod,
how do I change this target address to point to Q and prod respectively. In other words, even though I am using Visual admin to configure the destination url for the logical port, to point to Q and prod, its still referring to the dev environment provider service after moving the proxy client to Q and prod. What is the suggested approach to take care of this issue
Thx
mikeHi Michael,
I can only help from that point of view that I believe this question belongs to the forum
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and SAP
Please try to raise this question there.

How to set up DEV, TEST and PROD environment?
We have used BI publisher Enterprise (standalone), Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.1. Our admin set up DEV, TEST and PROD environment based on the folder. For example, there is DEV folder, TEST folder and PROD folder. Developer is developing reports under DEV folder. Under TEST and PROD folder, there are many sub-folder based on the login user role. Sometimes a report has to be assigned to a multiple sub-folder under PROD. So our admin create symbolic links in the Linux box which BI server is located. That way, if a report is updated, there is no need to update the report in all sub-folder.
The issue I have is we are not allowed to touch any files under TEST/PROD folder. Only admin will move the report from DEV folder to TEST/PROD folder because those links admin created might be broken. However, as a developer, we still have permission to delete/rename/copy report under those restricted folders. Yesterday one report under PROD has been renamed by a developer. And admin complains because the links he has created not working anymore. Just wonder if admin doesn't allow developers to touch the reports under those folders, is there a way to remove the write permission on those folders? Also do you think this is a good practice to set up DEV, TESDT and PROD environment? Any input will be greatly appreciated. We have used BI publisher Enterprise (standalone), Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.1. Our admin set up DEV, TEST and PROD environment based on the folder. In SAP BW landscape we should have separate servers for DEV, QA and PROD
Hi all,
In SAP BW system landscape we should have separate servers for DEV, QA and PROD.
whether one server is enough for DEV and we can use virtual servers to QA & PROD?
Regards,
chanduHi chandu,
In my previous Organisation we got exactly the same landscape for BW as you described.BCS(BAYER COPSCIENCE LTD) operates a BW System Landscape with one centralized Global Development System and three regional Quality Assurance and Production Systems located in Europe, Asia Pacific and Americas. This Landscape is to ensure consistent data models to be available in all regional systems as well as to minimize development efforts and make use of respective synergies.
This is perfectly working for BCS ,and I think, this is the most approriate way of handling of resources.

免 Chaines Char not accepted in QA system, working fine in Dev and PROD
Hi Experts,
I am stuck withchines char e.g. 免
BW QA is not accepting it, I can see the PSA data 免 converted to #, where as same records show proper 免 in BW DEV and PROD.
I checked the data in source system (RSA3) properly showing 免.
I rechecked the SM59 RFC setting in QA and compare with DEV.
All system are unicode supported.
Please help to resolve.
Thank-You.
Regards,
VBI crated a new flat file text datasource and tried to load data (chines char) and that to work in QA.
Don't understand what's issue with 0CUST_SALES_ATTR extractor. ?
Any help/experience is welcome.

Grid Control : Change Management Across Non-Prod and Prod
All,
I had some questions with regards to Grid Control Implementation Architechture on Prod and Non-Prod Env's
The best practice is to configure a production Grid Control (GC) environment to monitor only production targets. This prevents nonproduction targets from adversely impacting a production environment.Another issue could be the compliance policy where in the production systems are to be isolated from Non-Production Environments.
If this is the case then we have to have 2 GC environments , 1 for Prod and 1 for Non-Prod. In such a scenario how well can we do change management (Version control ) across the Non-Prod and Prod Environments ?
To be more specific
How is version control managed for Oracle builds if we have separate GC for Prod and Non-PROD? (Change Management pack / Configuration Management Packs are there but what is the real depth of these? )
Change management for the Oracle Environments from DEV -> Test -> Pre-Production-> Production? We aim to have consist build across the environments can we achieve this if the GC is managed by Different OMS/OMR and if we have 2 separate environments how do we sync the GC environments managing PROD/NON-PROD after a change? This is feature is not there in 10.2
This situation can be avoid by chagning the 9i port to 1522
or install the GC on diffrent box -
Project Server 2012, SharePoint 2013
I have a task with a few attached issues, risks and documents. And I see links to that in the PWA project plan (as icons).
But when resource open his PWA task pane attachment lists (issues, risks and documents) are empty.
Why? How to add documents in that lists?Hi,
I have a solution that might work for you, please follow steps below:
1) Go to your project schedule, make a small modification to any task on schedule and 'Publish' the project.
2) While your project is being published and saved, open another window
Server Settings -> Manage Queue Jobs
3) Here you can view the progress of your current Project Publishing update, check if all goes smooth and your project is published successfully without indicating any errors of issues like :
Reporting transfer WSS links failed ( to view any error look at the last column of table on Manage Queue Job page)
4) Also in your Project window see if the project is published and not saved as Draft.
Basically this will give you a fair idea of your project being published or not, if not that there is some problem with your Lists ( Risks, Issues and Documents).

Project Online - Can't Delete Resource and User from Delete Enterprise Objects
I would like to link a resource account to a user account but I ran into an error: "The resource account
is already in use.". This is a known issue which I attempted to resolve by following the instructions in KB2881398.
However when deleting the selected resource from Delete Enterprise Objects I get a message indicating success ("The
selected Resources and Users have been deleted.") but the duplicate user is still in the listing in Delete Enterprise Objects and when attempting to link the remaining resource to a user logon account I still get the error
"The resource account is already in use."
Why is the user not deleted even though Delete Enterprise Objects reports success and how can I delete these duplicates to be able to successfully link the account?Hi,
This might be due to your Exchange Sync issue, where your project workspace is unable to delete that user from local DB. Try following steps to diagnose the problem:
1) Go to your Resource Pool, DELETE a resource.
2) While resource is being Deleted, open another window
Server Settings -> Manage Queue Jobs
3) Here you can view the progress of your current Resource Deletion update, check if all goes smooth and your Resource is deleted successfully by showing process completion 100% :
( to view any error look at the
last column of table on Manage Queue Job page)
4) Cross check your Resource by running Resource Availability Report.
Basically this will give you a fair idea of your resource deletion problems and how system is responding to it.

Form getting misaligned in QUA SYS and PROD SYS , fine in DEV SYS
We have a PO smart form in development system which is working fine .But in QUA and Prod sys the text is getting misaligned.
The problem is with the text that is assigned to a table line type with fixed column width , which is not displaying in the respective column width assigned to it.
Instead it acts as if there is no table line type assigned to it .(display as normal text and not as columns in table line type)
There is also an smartstyle assigned to it.
I checked with the table values in both sys and it is same.
Also the smartstyle is active and is same in both the systems.
Please note that this problem didn't pop up previously and was displaying fine in QUA SYS and PROD SYS
This problem happened when the previously working form( in Dev sys) was altered with a small text in the heading of the
form and was transported to QUA and PROD SYS.Apart from changing the heading we didn't touch any text or tables or styles anywhere in the form .
Why is this problem happening ?
Please help us to resolving the issue !HI Just remove the new text which you have added in the header and check. SO that we can can find out this problem is due to Text or not.
Thanks

SYSTEM LANDSCAPE - DEV and PROD - refresh
Hi All,
We have a situation like this.
1. Our BW Q&A is a copy of PROD
2. Our BW DEV is not either a copy of Q&A or PROD.
3. We have issue with a particular process chain in PROD and we need to correct (and follow the lanscape..that is want to do the correction in DEV and the transport to QA and then to PROD)
4. Since this particular process chain is not existing in the DEV environment, our Basis team is advising us to check the difference in DEV and PROD for as this process chain concern and then want to refresh it to DEV system so that we can carry out the change/modification.
We don't know really what exactly we need to find the differences between DEV and PROD for this PC and then to inform to Basis team...
Is it correct that since the particular process chain associated with various queries, data targets,update/transfer structures...etc will be over writen / copied / refreshed in DEV system from PROD?
Please advise..Please help..Hi George, SAT, BWer,
Thanks for your messages.
George : Answers to your question:
1. Our Basis team want to copy all the configuration (related to the particular process chain only)and not Data's.
2. How to pack the process chain in a portable file and extract this file. then import it into DEV..and what is the way not to get error when doing so (knowing that fact that obejects will be different..) I don't know..whether to copy the objects are or not..
3.I agree with you.. Even we are ready to work with DEV to PROD..
SAT: Answers to your questions:
1. I do see some Process chains in the DEV and not related to this particular PC. Many development PC are there..and I don't know where the originally developed PC's ???!!
2. I am new to this Client..sorry..how this has been deleted...
BWer :Answers to your questions:
1. Yes..PC is Latest in the PROD.
2. We don't want to create the process chain all the way from scratch in the DEV. Yes..This is one of the process chain used in the metachain...Totally there are five chains in the PROD related to this..We need to modify only the second process chain..which we are trying to copy in the DEV and then do the changes...
Hope , you are clear about our requirement.
Please advise me what exactly we need to look into the DEV and PROD system so that required PC is copied alomg with (????) to DEV system..Please help.
Thank you very much in Advance.. -

Cancel after accept resources and delagetes
Hi Technet-users,
we have a Resource mailbox, so that we can schedule our vacations. A delegate approves or declines the meetings(vacations) which is working right. A problem occurs when the steps below occur.
userA creates a meeting with resourceA
UserB is delegate for the resource and receives an email, but doesn't accept or declines the meeting (the mail is unread)
UserA cancels the meeting.
UserB can still accept the meeting and gets no cancellation mail or something like that.
UserB accepts the meeting
The meeting is present in the calendar of ResourceA, but NOT of UserA
The problem here is that UserA isn't going on vacation, but ResourceA and the UserB still think he is.
Can anybody reproduce or even better: help me with this?
regards,
TimHi Tim,
I did a test following your post. In the step 4, the approval message
is still in UserB’s mailbox which is marked unread. But when I open the message, there is a notification in the top of the message:
Received from Room1. This meeting is not in the Calendar; it may have been moved or deleted.
And there is no related meeting event in Room1’s Calendar. UserB should delete the request but not accept the meeting.
Then, if UserB accepted the meeting with “Send the Response Now”, UserA will receive the Accepted message but there is no related meeting event in UserA’s Calendar. However, the meeting event is in Room1’s calendar. So I think the issue is caused by
delegate’s wrong operation and the delegate should delete the empty meeting event instead of accepting it.
Thanks,
Winnie Liang
