Omf import problems from avid

I have a lot of experience in STP on FCP projects.
Problems, though with my first from Avid as an OMF file. It's a one hour doc and runs to about 1.5Gig.
When I try to import it seems to set off various progress bars then just stops.
Looking in the STP 'Edited Media' folder I can see a folder with the correct title has been created and in this there are 92 files comprising 236MB. The files have sensible names and play in Quicktime player.
However, no project ever emerges -even in this short state - in FCP.
I know the omf file is good because we've been able to open it in a neighbouring Protools suite.
Anybody have any ideas?
Charlie

OK.   Try this.  First, duplicate your sequence in case things go south.  Find a representative clip in the browser.  Create a new sequence and edit it into that sequence.  FCP will ask if you want to match the sequence settings to the clip.  Say yes.  Does the clip look ok in the canvas?  If so, do the new sequence settings match the original sequence settings?  If they do, select the clip in the new sequence and copy (command-c).  Go to the original sequence and select all (command-a) and then hit option-v (copy attributes) and choose basic motion and distort.  Does that fix things?

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • OMF Import Problem

I have a problem importing an .omf into Soundtrack Pro.
If the .omf is less than 50 MB then it's no problem... but anything larger and then import staus bar just hangs at 50% and I've got to force quit STP to get out of it.
Doesn't make any difference how many tracks or how long the project is, it just seems that 50 MB (or thereabouts,) is my maximum... which is not very big.
Tried on a number of different projects creating .omfs from FCP-6.0.3
The .omf files open up fine in ProTools LE so I'm sure that the files themselves are not corrupted.
    Using STP 2.0.2 on Leopard 10.5.3 with a MacPro, 3GHz 8-Core, 10GB RAM
    Thoughts anyone?
    LEE C.

I've had the same issue. I've been doing any OMF importing on my G5 running OS10.4.11 and moving things over to my MacPro system after the import etc is complete. It's a pain and takes much longer than it should to do this type of thing. I move things in and out of ProTools quite a bit, so speeding this process up by making it work reliably in Leopard would be great. Though I'm not sure if it's an OS issue or an Intel issue. I just know STP has become even less stable / reliable since my move to a new MacPro from my G5. I wonder if Logic performs any better on this front.

  • Video import problem from mini dv

    Hello,
I have a problem importing footage from a *Canon mv700i* DV camera (via firewire) with imovie 09. I can control the camera but only see pixels when I hit play. This problem has been troubling me for some time. I already found this solution: http://macosx.com/tech-support/mac/v...idv/11613.html
    (the *garageband fix*)
This used to work but now it doesnt and I dont really know what the real problem is anyway. In the past it sometimes worked miraculously but then some days later I have the same problem.
    Could anyone please help me?

    Hi
Canon is known to be problematic when Daisy chained with an external hard disk to Mac.
Here is my unsorted list on this topic.
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape.
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.
    No Camera or bad import

  • Import problems from SONY ACVHD

How do I import movieclips from the SONY TG3E (HD) camera into iMovie HD? I cannot drag and drop MTS-files to iMovie. Do I need to convert these files?

From other discussions here, I was under the impression that iMovie HD (v.5.0) was not compatible with Leopard (OS 10.5).
Besides that, all versions of iMovie up to, but not including 08, REQUIRE a miniDV cam for capture. HDD, DVD or memory sticks will NOT capture to iMovie HD. You need .dv format to work with iMovie.
Lennart's suggestion of using Voltaic to convert is your best hope, providing your iMovie version is compatible with your OS.

  • Importing Problem from HD video camera to FCE

I just bought a macbook pro retina with all the bells and whistles.  Tried importing video from Canon Vixia HD21  which I have been using successfully with my macbook for years.  Set the import to Apple intermediate Codec but machine will not go to FCE.  Puts the clips into the queue, downloads them  then I get the red exclamation point and nothing is transferred to FCE.  Anybody have any suggesions?

It ia true that Apple has moved away from DVD and iDVD.
However you can purchase external drives, even Apple supplies one if required and iDVD will work on the newer OS Mountain Lion.
I run iDVD 7.1.2 on Mountain Lion without issue.
BTW: We are all Apple users on this forum rather than Apple employees. If you wish to make your concerns heard then use Apple Feedback.

  • Problem importing aaf from AVID into Premiere Pro CC

I have a simple AVID project without crazy effects, few dissolves that's it. I am trying to transfer my sequence to PP CC in line with adobe.tv video found here: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/moving-to-adobe-premiere-pro-/importing-an-a vid-projects.
However, PP loads the sequence without any clips in it, only one audio file has survived. No error log, no link media dialogue. I have definitely exported all video tracks and everything is fine when I reimport the aaf file back into AVID.
Is anyone experiencing the same thing?
    Premiere Pro CC 7.0.1, AVID MC 7.0,  MacPro 8-core (2010), OSX 10.8.4

The AAF import is somewhat limited. There are resources linked to from this page that give information about this workflow.

  • Video import problem from iphone5 to PC giving error

    Hi evereyone,
I have iphone 5. I try to import my videos but am not able to import all, its giving error. I tried also using windows live photo still same prob. the imported videos have problem in playing. I tried with vlc, quick time, the frames are broken and audio video lag. Please help me how i can import all and rum smoothly.

    Ilan_B wrote:
Every time I plug my iphone 5 into the laptop (using windows 7) the easiest way is to right click on the portable device (iphone icon) and import to my pictures, BUT every time I do this it wants to import ALL photos and videos.
And when you do this, it should ask if you want to import the pictures that have already been imported. Select No.
Then, after you import, the photos should be deleted from the Camera Roll.
After the photos are imported and deleted from the Camera Roll, you can import using iTunes, only the photos you want on the iPhone.

    ASAPTwo choices:
1 As your problem seems to be 'urgent' involve Oracle Support, and do not post here. This is not free Oracle support
2 If you want to continue this thread, look up the word 'volunteer' in your dictionary, remove 'ASAP' and publicly apologize for being rude.
Troubleshooting starts with looking up the error online.

  • CLOB data import problem from 9.2 to 10.2

    Hello,
I am exporting data from 9.2 to 10.2 with exp/imp utility.
I have one table with datatypes NUMBER,VARCHAR2,CLOB,DATE,CHAR. CLOB is having xml data. while importing into 10.2, import failed with the messages
    IMP-00058: ORACLE error 1461 encountered
ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
IMP-00028: partial import of previous table rolled back
Pls suggest what is the problem and how to overcome.

The error message is more telling.
Did you precreated the table on 10g as CLOB while import LONG into it?
You can either change LONG to CLOB on 9i first then exp/imp or change 10g table to LONG first and covert to CLOB later.
ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
Cause: An attempt was made to insert a value from a LONG datatype into another datatype. This is not allowed.
Action: Do not try to insert LONG datatypes into other types of columns.

  • Importing problem from Photoshop Album 2 to PSE7

I have just upgraded from PSA2 to PSE7. Importing most of my pics and tags went without a hitch. But a couple of years ago I did a backup of PSA2 and moved most of my pics to a DVD. PSA2 then showed a small thumbnail of the pictures and a small disc symbol could be seen on all of these pics. If I double-clicked on these pics the program would ask me to insert the disc and the pictures would be imported. None of these thumbnails can be seen in PSE7, even though the tags are there. How do I fix this? There is a folder with these thumbnails in my Catolog directory, do I have to import them again and how will PSE7 know that the real files are stored on a disc?

As you mentioned in your other post (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2527844#2527844), you've already tried to convert to PSE 5, which didn't recover your offline photos.
In general, the PSE catalog upgrade conversion process has been very buggy.  And in the last couple of years, a number of people have reported problems with catalog conversions not properly preserving information about their offline archived files.  Adobe support has been completely useless.  They even asked one person to send in his catalog, and after many, many weeks, they effectively said they couldn't help.  I've concluded that Adobe will not support the offline/archiving feature and strongly recommend that people don't use it.
If you don't care about preserving tags, dates/times, captions, etc. you could simply reimport the photos from DVD into your PSE 7 catalog.  By default the import will copy the photos to your hard drive (which I recommend), or you could uncheck the box that says to copy the files on import (which I don't recommend).   The import may or may not successfully bring in the tags, etc. depending on whether PSA had been able to correctly write that information to the files when they were archived to DVD (PSA/PSE has always been very buggy about that).
But if you want to preserve the tags, etc., use PSA 2 to
move all of the archived files from DVD back to a hard drive, and then reconvert the catalog to PSE 7.  I don't remember how you do this in PSA, but in later versions of PSE, you select the thumbnails and invoke File > Move.  Then keep the photos on your hard drive (as recommended above).

  • Video import problems from a Sony DSC-HX9V

    Hey There
I have a Sony DSC-HX9V which I've owned for several months now, a Intel based MBP and iMovie 11.
Something strange is cooking and I wonder if anyone could let me have some suggestions of how to solve the issue?
In the past both iPhoto and iMovie has had no problems at all recognizing the camera and downloading photos and video files. I've created projects, burnt DVDs all the normal stuff.
This afternoon though a problem has arisen. Although iPhoto is letting me download photos from the camera, iMovie I guess is not "seeing" the camera. I've done exactly what I think I usually do, but this time its not working. When you click on "Import from camera" the window opens up but only the iSight camera is being used. I've clicked the "camera" drop down but again only the iSight camera is an option.
I've made sure all of my software is updated, no problems there, turned the camera off, turned the MBP off and on numerous times, but still it won't see the camera.
I've spent the last few hours trolling through various posts, even tried shooting video in all of the different quality grades available on the camera, just to make sure, but still nothing.
This Sony camera is definitely compatible with iMovie 11, again I've check and as I mentioned before, I've used it several times in the past.
Any suggestions would be warmly received.
    David

I found this link helpful, I'm going to change the camera settings to 60i from 60p as on post mentions and will report the results http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1009&message=39416949&chang emode=1

  • Import problems from scanned negativeas

I recently scanned some negatives at 2400 dpi using and Epson scanner directly into Photoshop. Of course Photoshop reverses the image and I did further level adjustments and retouching. When I import these images into iPhoto, they show up as a black window. If I reopen them and save at 300 dpi at a larger size they show up but very much darker than they look in Photoshop. When I open these images in Photoshop from within iPhoto they look great, but when I open them with the editing window in iPhoto they look like washed out negatives. What gives here and what is happening. The images look and print great in Photoshop but look terrible in iPhoto.
Any help or insights would be appreciated.

    William:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are the format of those scans Grayscale? If so then set them to RBG in Photoshop and reimport.
If you're using PS thru iPhoto (set up PS as the editor of choice when double-clicking on a thumbnail) you can do it within iPhoto. Just be sure that when saved it's the same file name and extension. Otherwise you'll have to save to the desktop and reimport as a new file.

  • After upgrading to LR 4.4 having import problems from 5DMKII

I'm unable to import raw image files from 5DMKII after upgrading to LR 4.4. Using an iMac OS 10.6.8. No error message, importing just stops after a few files have been imported. First it imported 2 files, then 9, then 11, before it stalls. No error message or pinwheel icon. I tried re-installing 4.4 twice with no change. My laptop, a Macbook Pro same system, running LR 4.3 can successfully import the same files using the same card reader and cable. Any ideas?
    Thanks

If you are using the option to automatically start LR to begin importing, turn that off, and try starting up the import from the memory card manually.
Next, try copying a batch of raw files to a temporary location on the internal HD and importing from the temporary location to the normal location using the Copy import method.
Next, try copying another batch of files to their ultimate destination using Finder and then use the Add import method.
This will help determine if it is a USB/Card-import issues or a 5D.2 raw issue that causes the lockup.
