    Hi Punkermama,
If the screen on your iPhone is dark but the phone otherwise seems to be responding (sounds, etc), an Accessability feature known as Screen Curtain may have inadvertently been activated. You may find the following section of the iOS 7 for iPhone manual helpful (Apendix A - Accessability, in the Voiceover section on pg 126):
Turn the screen curtain on or off. Triple-tap with three fingers. When the screen curtain is on, the screen contents are active even though the display is turned off.

  • My iPod wont turn on. Help, ASAP.

Whenever i put it on my Altec dock, it turns on and its fine. But whenever i bump it or take it off, it goes black and wont turn on. It wont turn on when i plug it into my computer through USB, or when i plug it into an outlet. I finally gave up and put it into Recovery Mode. I plugged it into my computer and put it into Recovery Mode again even though it was alredy in it, and it conected. I hit Restore, and waited. It gave me the error message; 1604. I repeated, and repeated, and tried Apple's, Trobleshoot instructions. Still no luck. I need help, any suggestions?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Hi Phone Apple and see if you can send it in for service . It sounds like it is a battery issue. When I had my first iPod with video. I had to send it in for service and since they could not fix it. they sent me a new iPod .
The support number for Apple is:

  • HT201263 My iPod wont turn on? Help!!!

I hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the apple logo pops up. Ok thats normal. But not even a few seconds later, this symbol pops up. (The symbol is a USB connecter with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo. So i plug it into iTunes and this is what it says.
    Name: iPod
    Capacity: n/a
    Software Version: n/a
    Serial Number: n/a
Then under Version, it has the two buttons, "Check for Update" and "Restore". The Check for Update button is not highlighted because it says, "Your iPod software is up to date. iTunes will automatically check for an update again on 6/14/2012." The Restore button, however, is highlighted. So i click on it and this is what it says next, "Contacting the iPod software update server..." Then it gives me an error message that says, "The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." Thats it. Then my iPod just sits there on the iTunes symbol until you power it off again. For some reason, i cannot get it passed the iTunes symbol. This has been going on since yesterday morning and its really starting to irritate me. If anyone has gone through this before, it would be GREATLY appreciated if you could help me through this. Please dont say that i should call them, because that is my last resort. Thank you!!!

No but it may say it takes hours for downloading the update file if it is not already on yur computer.
Also you can try changing the DNS to Google's DNS servers. Seee:

  • IPod wont turn on or update after iTunes 7, please help

It's a 2004, 20gb iPod with click-wheel. A friend gave it to me, if I can try to repair it. Apparently it died after installing iTunes 7. The iPod wont turn on or respond to anything. The only time it does is when its connected to a computer. At first iTunes reported that the iPod is corrupted and needs to be restarted. And when it turns on, theres an icon with an exclamation mark and an URL pointing me to Apple's support. At first i tried with various older firmware files and I got the messega that there was an error formatting the ipod. iTunes 7 gave a 1418 or 1429 error at the end of the updating process.
I tried with resetting it, putting it in the disk mode and then erasing and/or partitioning it with Disk utility and it was always the same. I tried unplugging all the other devices when updating, just like recommended. Again nothing worked.
    Here comes the peculiar part:
Then I did a complete erase, writting zeros over the whole disk in Disk utility. It took ages and then finally stopped with an error just before finishing. After that I can update my iPod just fine with iTunes 7, I can even name it again and start adding songs(it takes forever for just one song). Even older updaters say its fine. But after unplugging it from the computer its still dead and it still displays the error icon. All that got me so confused.
I find it hard to believe that a hardware error suddenly appeared just after installing iTunes 7 and I am really hoping for any help I could get because I dont want to give up on it just yet. Thanks.

  • My ipod nano 4th gen wont turn on ! help me !

okay i got this ipod nano off one of my friends. I plugged it into my own computer and the apple logo came onto the screen, then after a few seconds the main menu screen came on, but while doing this i accidently knocked the cord connecting my ipod to the computer, then my ipods screen went black and said "please eject before disonnecting " but as it slightly came out it was "disconnected" so i tried putting it back it but the ipod wouldnt turn on, only a blank black screen. I have tried all the steps from apple but none of them are working, please tell me whats wrong with the ipod and how i can fix it !!! i really need this ipod !!

  • Ipod wont turn on /show up my computer

    hey there
my ipod wont turn on. it sounds as if its firing up, then fails and displays the sad i pod icon. I've tried restoring factory settings etc but because my computer wont recognise it this can be done
if anyone could help me out i;d be very grateful
    Thanks

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • My ipod wont turn on it only ligths up and thats it

my ipod wont turn on it was working good but now only the screen its blank.

Have you tried resetting the iPod?  To do this press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may or may not work the first time around so be sure to try this more than once.  It might help to have it plugged into an external power source as well.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
