Omit/Hide Header on First Page?

I am writing a multi-page document, and I want to have a header with my last name and the page number on it (MLA style), except for the first page which will be a cover page. This was possible with Appleworks and I think I recall doing it with Word, can I do it with Pages?

I wish to add that it's explained in the Help and in the PDF User Guide _which are also for you_ !

  • Header on first page, not on others

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how to get a header to appear on the first page of a document, but not on the rest?
    Using section breaks, I can get the header to appear on all pages EXCEPT the first, but not the other way around. I've really played around w/ this and seem unable to figure it out.
    help.

    Yes thanks, that was a good idea. What I'm using for a header is actually a graphic, but I was able to accomplish the spirit of your suggestion by selecting the graphic, then going to the Wrap Inspector and checking the 'Fixed on Page' button rather than 'Moves with Text', then moving the graphic to the top where I wanted it. One can even position it exactly using the Metrics Inspector.

  • How to hide JSESSIONID in first-page Url?

    Hi!
    Is it possible to hide JSESSIONID in url of first accessed page in application?
    (In non-SSL config,copying this param allows any client to gain access to server session, which is previously authenticated, and thus avoid JAAS authentication. This is very unpleasant OC4J behavior. Other platforms are using "hidden" session identification mechanisms which are not much more intrusion-proof but are less obvious to end-users .)
    Kind regards for any tip,
    Pavle

    Hi Steve!
    Yes, you got it right.
    In the first page, if the page is not protected so
    the redirect to JAAS login is not performed,
    jsessionid is visible in url.
    The behavior is on JDev
    11g TP4 with both JSF and ADFc controllers. After
    first page, jsessionid is removed form url, so
    cookie-bases session is enabled.
    But, if jsessionid
    is provided in url for some other page, the session
    is identified by supplied jsessionid even cookie is
    different.
    I read somewhere that this is some "automatic"
    cookie-support detection by OC4J (which is checking
    if the url jsessionid is same as cookie – if not,
    then OC4J considers cookies are not supported on
    client browser). Is there any way to force OC4J to
    use only cookie-bases session identification?
    Regards,
    Pavlegday Pavle --
    I did some testing on this yesterday with a straight JSP/Servlet based, session enabled application and I observed this happening for the very, very first request of a brand new browser process. As soon as you go to the second page, the jsessionid is removed from the URL. Logging out of the application and logging back in, using the same browser process doesn't result in the jsessionid appearing again.
    On the automatic cookie detection -- yes the container can determine if cookies are supported. If they are not, then it will use the url + jsessionid approach IFF the application has used the response.encodeURL() method on any links it presents in the application. If the application has not used the encodeURL method, then it won't work correctly. We don't do any auto encoding of URLs -- the application has to do it, and then we'll use it if cookies are disabled.
    I tried it with Firefox, Opera and even Internet Exploder and the same behaviour occurs.
    I'll look into it some more and post a bug if one needs to be entered. If I do, I'll let you know the bug number so that if you need a patch, you can log a support tar and reference the bug.

  • Cannot Remove Header on First Page

    After creating a four-page file in Pages ('08), I see that the header on the first page looks distracting. I went to Pages Help and was told:
    "To make the headers and footers on the first page unique, click in the section, select “First page is different” in the Section pane of the layout inspector..."
    Unfortunately, when I select the header section of any of the pages, the"First page is different" configuration button is inactive (grayed).
    How do I activate that button optiion?

  • Different Header for First and Subsequent Pages with Summary on last page

    The data in report can vary from 1 to more than 50 rows (order lines). The header on first page is detailed and the header on subsequent pages has only some fields (whenever data is large). There is a summary section which has to be on the last page of the report only and that too at the bottom (just above the fixed footer in the report).
    So, for a single page report the the detailed header, all lines, summary at the bottom and then the footer has to be printed.
    For a two page report - first page will have detailed header, some lines, fixed footer and second page will have short header, remaining lines, summary at the bottom and then the footer.
    For a three page report the summary has to be on third page only and so on.

    In a word processing document, select your object, place it where you want & then go to Format > Advanced > Move Object to Section Master. To place a different repeating object, you will need to insert a section break.
    With page layout documents, each page is a separate section, so there is no section master. Objects placed on one page don't repeat.

  • How to print a table only on the first page BI Publisher report

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to only print part of what is in the header on the first page only. It is a table. How can I do this in BI Publisher?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    better to ask a question about BI Publisher in BI Publisher Forum than here in Reports Forum.
    You can create a template in your rtf wich you reference in your header. With BI Desktop in Winword you can use a different header for first page than the others.

  • BIP (OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1): Different Headers on 1st page, middle pages, same header on last page as 1st page

    Hello,
    This is a much discussed topic but I still couldn't find a resolution.
    The report I am trying to convert from Oracle Reports is an Invoice. The requirement is as follows:
    On Page 1 The full header including company logo, bill-to, ship-to address, invoice number etc. Standard Invoice header stuff should print 1st page.
    Page 2 andl subsequent pages should print a scaled down version of the above header to conserve space (and paper)
    Last Page should have the Invoice Summary.
    In case of a multiple page Invoice this setup works just fine. I have followed examples available in userguide as well as on the web. Used Different First Page option, created section break so that header on first page can be different than on subsequent pages.
    PROBLEM:
    The issue is that in case of a single page invoice, it prints with the scaled down header, invoice details and summary.
    The requirement is that for single page invoice, the Full header and summary appear. I have put  <?start@last-page-first:body?> <?end body?> so that the summary appears on the single page invoice but the FULL header does not.
    I have tired to follow (http://winrichman.blogspot.com/2008/08/different-page-header-and-footer.html) but it doesn't seem to work.
    How can I create the necessary breaks in Word so that I get Full header on 1st page, scaled down header on other..pages and in case of Single Page Invoice, include FULL header and Summary on one page?
    Thanks,
    Manish

    Hi Tim,
    Forgot to mention that there is also a 3rd page which needs to display Part 3 and a different header text which is not something from page 1 or 2.So I guess the even/odd pages in page setup wont work as the 1st page header will be displayed on the 3rd page which is not what is expected.
    I think this is not achievable in MSWord. Is this possible if I use a PDF template?

  • How do I hide the header on the first page?

    Dumb question, I know. But I can't find it addressed in the online help. It should be obvious.

    If I understand your question - you would like the second page and following to have a different header? -correct Robert?
    Go to the Inspector/Layout (second icon from left) and click the Section tab. Then check off the First Page is Different configuration option.

  • How to hide Header Page in Report Builder 6.0

    Hi,
    I am trying to modify the existing report. My requirement is to add a cover page to the report. Based on condition the cover page should not be displayed.
    Ex: If currency='USD' then
    cover page along with the report body
    else
    if currency = NULL then
    report body should be displayed.
    I wrote a format trigger on cover page frame. but it is displaying blank page as first page. It should not display blank page.
    Format trigger:

    begin
    if (:CP_currency IS NULL)
    then

  • Why do text variables using Running Header character style translate forced returns as a word space in the running head on the first page but close up the space on subsequent pages?

    In an InDesign document that requires 3 different Chapter head paragraph styles (to cope with differrent length headings) I've set up the running heads on the master page with a text variable using the Running header (character style) option. The character style I've assigned to this is an empty character style that is applied to all 3 chapter head paragraph styles.
    Some chapter heads require a forced line break, so that the line breaks are aethesically pleasing. On the first page the text variable translates this forced line break as a word space in the running head, but on subsequent pages it ignores the forced line break. This means that if you have a word space before the forced line break, on the first page you get a double word space and on subsequent pages the running head sets correctly with a single word space. But if you remove the word space before the forced line break in the chapter head text, the first running head sets correctly with forced line break interpreted as a single word space, but on subsequest pages the space is closed up.
    This only seems to be a problem when the character style option is used for header text variables. If a paragraph style is used the forrced line break is interpreted as a a single word space in all instances, both on the foirst page and subsequent pages.
    This would appear to be a bug in how text variables are applied when using the Running header (character style) option. I can't see any other reason why the text variable would beheave differently on the first page and on subsequent pages. There is only one master page, so it isn't a case of their being an error between a main master page and a chapter opener master page.
    Does anyone have any solutionss, or know if this problem has been fixed in subsequent releases of InDesign (I'm using CS6 ID version 8.0)
    Thanks

  • Issue with last-page-first Body (header of second page repeating)

    Hi,
    I am generating some invoice document and there is tax section at the end of document.Invoice can be one page document or it can be multiple pages document.I also have separate header and footer for first page and then for subsequence pages.
    Assume that it is only one page and there is sufficient space left to display Tax tables. I am using
    ------Section Break (Continuous)--------
    <?start@last-page-first:body?><?end body?>
    <?call tax template?>
    This approach works fine when document is more than one page. Moment I get only one page for my invoice it uses the header of second page.
    I already tried <?start@last-page:body?><?end body?> tag but it moves it to the next page and I want it in continuation.
    Below is the snippet of template
    <?start:body?>
    first page header
    <?if:ITEM = 'PARTS'?>
    <?call-template: pt_template?>
    <?end if?>
    <?if:ITEM = 'TM'?>
    <?call-template: tnm_template?>
    <?end if?>
    <?end body?>
    ---SECTION BREAK (CONTINUOUS)-----
    <?start@last-page-first:body?><?end body?>
    <?call-template: tax_template?>
    <?template:tax_template?>
    Please advise if any option is available.

    Hi
    1.Check the Paragraph FOrmat . Character Format  ( the smartstyle) that you have assigned to the last page.
    2. if it is the Terms and conditons page , check the text module (SO10) and its corresponding SmartStyle (paragraph format,character format).
    See if u have used Underline in the  style..

  • In Pages '09, how do I remove the header from the first page of the document in a page layout document?

    Working Pages '09, I am trying to set up a multi-page document using page layout  (not a word processing document, because I'll be using lots of graphics and text boxes), with headers and footers, but no header on the first page, as this will be the title page. The layout>section pane has the 'First page is different' option  greyed out (because it's a word processor only option). Help tells me that each page is it's own section in page layout, but there is no way to have one page without a header and all the others with, as far as I can tell. Am I completely missing something or is there a way around this?
    Also, I want to do this again for additional chapters in the document (or else, I believe, be forced to manually start page numbering for each chapter in a new document).
    Cheers.

    Hi, Barry. I don't know why this solution didn't work for me :-\ Does it matter that my page numbers are in the footer and not the header? When I follow your direction, the pages do get numbered differently. My problem occurs with the last step.
    1. Open the Inspector. (Check!)
    2. Click the Layout button (second from left). (Check!)
    3. Click Section. (Check!)
    4. Make the two settings shown: (Check!)
    5. Go to Page 1 and delete the contents of the Header. (When I do this, the content for all footers is deleted...)
    I really appreciate your insight.

  • Display different header in the first page

    I am displaying a table in the header (not an MS word header but header identified as something above <?start:body?> tag) of an rtf template. That table has 3 rows, I need to display one of those rows only in the first page and not in other pages.
    I did not find any method on querying for the page number. So, I used a flag in the following manner: (Here, text with red color denotes RTF field). The following is what my RTF file looks like:
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    init_field
    This is the row to be shown on all the pages
    if_field
    This row should only be shown on the first page.
    end_if change_variable
    <?start:body?>
    other stuff
    <?end body?>
    Where,
    init_field
    <?if: (xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX,'FLAG')!='NONFIRST')?><?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX,'FLAG','FIRST')?><?end if?>
    if_field
    <?if: (xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX,'FLAG'))='FIRST'?>
    end_if
    <?end if?>
    change_variable
    <?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX,'FLAG','NONFIRST')?>
    BUT, I still see all the rows in all the pages. It seems like the value of variable 'FLAG' is not preserved between different pages. To me, it seems like, header is generated once and same header is used in all the pages

    Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but why not just place the second line that needs to be on the first page only after the <?start:body?>
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
