Omnes Regular font converted to Chinese font

Hi there,
One of our users just contacted us with a weird issue. Below is his email:
"I've been having a weird issue that I've never come across before (I know, just a normal email from me).
After opening a file from another designer, this chinese font has taken over my "omnes – regular" font file. Anytime I use it, it converts to this font and each time I need to change a font weight, I must do it manually. As you can imagine, I use our company font all day so this slows me down quite a bit. Have you heard of this? It seems like some sort of font virus. I've researched removing it, yet can't seem to find the original font file to get rid of, which is even weirder."
We tried moving the font family to the trash, emptying the trash, rebooting the machine, and re-adding the font family and it still is happening. Do you have any idea how we can go about fixing this?
Thank you!

Unfortunately, it didn't help. I couldn't find any fonts ending in MM.
Below are three screenshots of the process.
1. Select "Omnes" as a typeface
2. Select "Regular" as font weight
3. This ???
Thanks again!

    Hi,
In addition to Korean font like KPBATANG, the language key of the used form(sapscript or smartform) must be KO. Also the PDF must be created by a Korean device type like e.g. KPSAPWIN.
If you have a Unicode system, then the Unicode cascading fonts device type SWINCF or PDFUC can be used to create the PDF. In this case the language of the form is not so important.

  • Font problem -- unwanted Chinese fonts

The image below shows the front panel of my application.  Three of the indicators have labels in Chinese, while the rest are in English as expected/desired.  Originally, they were all in English then suddenly some changed to Chinese.
The project explorer sometimes comes up in Chinese and other times in English.  The block diagram looks like
This makes the program unreadable for me.
This issues has been discussed in the past, and I have found no suitable solution other than to re-create the application.  An inconvenience for smaller apps, but a major problem with larger ones.
    Does anyone have any insight?

Also used these reports RSTXPDFT4, RSTXPDF2UC, it does not work.
How can I solve this issue?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,Aidan,
        Thanks,
Sorry, the option CJK_USE_BOLD_IT does not exist in report RSTXPDF3 when I run this report.
I found only CJK_SMALL_FONT such as u2018CJK*u2019 in my system.
Is there a way to add CJK_USE_BOLD_IT?
When I check RSTXPDF3,I found all the options are hard copy in RSTXPDF3 list by Constants.

  • Chinese font won't render in Android4.4/Air4.0 with StyleableTextField

Updating our app for the Latest Android 4.4/Air 4.0 SDK. Our app is localized for several languages, including Chinese.
Ther app renders Chinese fine on Android devices less than android version 4.4 compiled with Air SDK 4.0.
But on android ver. 4.4 with Air SDK 3.9 or SDK 4.0 only, chinese text will not render using StyleableTextField in our item renderers.
A regular spark Label WILL render the chinese font just fine with Android 4.4/SDK 3.9/4.0.
The android 4.4 device we have tested on is a Nexus 7. We are not using an embedded font for chinese.
On our Nexus 7, this problem *doesent* exist with Air SDK 3.7 used with Android 4.4, but does with Air SDK 3.9 or SDK4.0.
So it appears the problem started with Air 3.9.
I have included  screenshots for both cases to show what it looks like.
Thanks for any help getting it fixed so we can support the latest android 4.4 devices along with Air SDK 4.0 for our Chinese customers.

  • Simplified Chinese font missing ...

I recently bought a 17" MacBook Pro--bought in China--and have discovered that one of the most important Simplified Chinese fonts, Song.dfont, is missing. The machine came with OS-X 10.4.7 which I have upgraded to 10.4.8, fully updated. To try to find it, I did an "archive and install" on my bootable back-up disk, but Song.dfont is missing from that new 10.4.7 installation. The Hei.dfont and Kai.dfont are there on both versions of the system.
I tried copying the font from my old Rev 1 TiBook, which has it, though it is now running 10.4.8 but when I tried to install it on the MacBook Pro, I got an alert that it was corrupt ... something to do with a conflict with the original SIL Doulos IPA font, I believe.
Can anyone suggest how I can get it. Song is essential, as I exchange files with Chinese Windows users on a regular basis, and they are in Song. The system installs STSong, but that doesn't help, because I also need to produce PDFs and STSong is not licensed for embedding in a PDF.
So please, can anyone help me to find a source for installing this font on my MacBook Pro?
    Mark Hilton

Look through the files on the Main re-install disk that came with your MBP. In the "System" folder you will find "packages". Inside are the various installers. One of those may well have the install package for your Chinese fonts. Maybe this works.
Another way might be to get Pacifist, and if you can find the right package, drag it on to Pacifist's window. This would be another way to install the font.
Note: I am not exactly which package would do the job. Pacifist is very helpful at searching this out for you. Find Pacifist from versiontracker.com.
    Note 2: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25710
This indicates that it is in a package called "Additional Asian Fonts". This wil make it easier for you.

  • Are there any chinese fonts with iWork?

A friend in Beijing is keen to convert to Mac, but wants to know if there any Chinese fonts available with iWork?  If anyone knows, I'd be grateful for some feedback.
She's not keen on buying Microsoft Office for Mac.
    Linden

Unlike on Windows the language support is not at the application level, but the system level.
Get your friend to try out a Mac in an AppleStore because the real concern will be whether OSX meets her needs for efficient input methods. The various methods Apple employs are relatively simple but not as efficent or helpful as you will find on Windows.
Don't expect the same of language support in the Mac version of Word as you do in the Windows version.
Have a look at free applications like Text Express and its related word processors which are well designed for the Japanese market but will do equally as well for Chinese. In particular these are easier for changing the direction of the text. Pages has no provision for vertical text.
One thing your friend will find fascinating is the OSX Service that lets you switch text between Traditional and Simplified text, at one click.

  • Missing Chinese font

    Hi all.
So, I have an InDe file that was converted from English to Chinese, by another designer. I need to open the file to make a commercial-printer-ready PDF of it. There is one missing font, STFangsong (OTF) Bold. I can't find it online anywhere (un-bold shows up everywhere).
Aside from going back to the original designer, how do I deal with this? I can't convert to outlines, I can't make a PDF, and I don't know the Asian fonts at all in order to make an intelligent substitution decision. And if the font really doesn't exist, how did it end up in my document? (I'm on Mac OS, don't know which platform the other designer works with.)
    Help!
    Thanks.

There is one missing font, STFangsong (OTF) Bold.
My client then had revisions to the content, so the translator, not wanting to incur additional charges with the designer for minor text revisions, downloaded a trial copy of INDD-CC to make the text revisions, doing some font substituting herself, and then of course saved the document with the revised text and font substitutions, which she then sent to me.
If I recall correctly, there isn't a STFangsong Bold.
I suspect that revisions were keyed in Word and then copy/pasted into the document. If the "All Information" toggle is selected in the "Clipboard Handling" properties of the file in question, then there is a scrap of evidence to support my hunch. Because that's how it'd be marked as Bold - because Word will happily add a stroke around a font to fake a bold if there is no bold available.
If the STFangsong in use is the Apple system font, then: it has the do-not-embed flag on, so it'll be impossible to use in a PDF. And you can't buy it anywhere. Learn (a tiny bit) more about the ST foundry here.
If you need need need a bold Fangsong, I'd suggest DF Fangsong. "DF" is Dynacomware Design Studio. The whole family costs $1350. A single weight is $500. Good Chinese fonts are expensive!

Font handling on OS X is radically different than in Classic.
    In OS X fonts
can be installed all over the place, and in places where they
    can be
accessed only by the installing application. Adobe and
    Microsoft install
font for the exclusive use of the their own applications.
My strategy is to use FontAgent Pro to manage all fonts on my
    system.
FreeHand MX has trouble with corrupted font caches. You'll
    need to clean out
font caches regularly using a utility such as Font Nuke or
    Yasu.
I have found that if a font is displaying incorrectly,
    deactivating and then
reactivating it in FontAgent Pro will clear up the problem.
    It clears the FH
    font cache for that font.

  • Chinese font characters disappearing in CS6

I need to redesign an InDesign file that is in Chinese and originally created in CS5. When I open the document in CS6 some characters disappear (no pink box). When I substitute the font with another Simplified Chinese font, some of the missing characters appear but then I lose other characters. Is this a CS6 issue? Any solutions?

Chinese fonts can vary dramatically in character count, whether simplified or traditional, but older simplified fonts are particularly small (GB vs. GBK, etc.): the ChineseMac site has a handy list showing character counts for a bunch of fonts.  And sometimes ID doesn't show a pink box, just a blank.
Differences can be really subtle.  Several years ago I worked on a job using Adobe Fangsong, if I recall correctly.  Some stuff disappeared on a colleague's machine, and it turned out he was using a version of the font bundled with an earlier version of InDesign and hadn't installed the revised font when upgrading ID.  (The older one lacked some of the vertical punctuation symbols I'd added to the files.)
    Good luck!

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.1.0, Chinese Fonts & OCR

You can see the version of Adobe Acrobat I am using.  When I scan a document with Chinese fonts they appear just fine on screen.  That means I've got "pictures" of the characters.  However, I want to use my OCR function so that I actually have the individual Chinese characters and individually manipulate them (bring them into a word processor).  I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is can anyone tell me how to do it?
    Thanks

"7.1.4" was the last update for Acrobat 7.
There are no updates after this as the Acrobat 7.x product family went into product End of Support.
This URL is to the Acrobat product update page.
Scroll down to view the 7.x updates. You can manually download and install each in turn.

  • Subset Chinese fonts in Acrobat 8?

I have a 30 page manual, in English, but the page headers have Chinese characters.
The problem is that Reader can't find that Chinese font- so it displays NOTHING.
When I opened the document in Acrobat, it detected that Chinese fonts were used and offered to download them- seven megabytes for that add-on. The document is only 308K. After that 7 meg download, Reader displays the contents of the document.
What can I do to either subset the Chinese font the document uses, or alter the document to force Reader to display the contents even when the Chinese fonts aren't available? I tried the touchup text tool, then right-clicking the Chinese text, but the checkboxes for embedding are greyed out.
It's rather silly to have to download seven megabytes of additional data just to be able to view a 308 kilobyte document.

    >Then what good is embedding/subsetting fonts if the font has to be installed in the OS anyway?
The reason for embedding the fonts is so that the end user sees your
    exact choice of fonts.
    > I thought the reason for embedding fonts was so the font did not have to be installed.
Yes, but the Chinese font packs don't just install fonts. They also
install the necessary support information to allow Chinese fonts to be
    displayed.
    >
    >Is there something I can do to the PDF to make Reader display the images and English text without having the Chinese font in the OS?
If a page has an "error" then it is likely to be blank. Missing font
    support is an error.

  • Prob with chinese font bold, italic... in PDF report

    Hello everyone ! :D
My symptoms (overview) : to create my RDF report, I'm using a font, simsun.ttf, wich allow me to view chineses and french characters. Everything is ok, except in PDF format, all the items remains in "normal" style.
    My configuration : Windows NT4 SP6a
    Report Builder 9.0.4.2
    Acrobat Reader 7.0
    Oracle Database 9.2.0.6
In Detail : in report builder, every items (text fields, labels,...) are directly created with SimSun font. Some items are bold, some italic, ...
If i generate the report in RTF format, my items bold, italic, ... are ok in Microsoft Word (SimSun Bold, ...). However, if i generate the report in PDF format, everything is in "normal" style.
I changed the file UIFONT.ALI like this :
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    # This example shows how to subset Arial True Type font into the PDF file
    # Arial = "Arial.ttf"
    # The True Type font files must exist in any one of the folders specified in
    # REPORTS_PATH.
    SimSun..Italic.Bold.. = "SimSun.ttf"
    SimSun...Bold.. = "SimSun.ttf"
    SimSun..Italic... = "SimSun.ttf"
    SimSun..... = "SimSun.ttf"
and also like that (just to try something else, but it does not change anything) :
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    # This example shows how to subset Arial True Type font into the PDF file
    # Arial = "Arial.ttf"
    # The True Type font files must exist in any one of the folders specified in
    # REPORTS_PATH.
    SimSun = "SimSun.ttf"
Obviously, with an Arial font, we can map the different files Arialb.ttf, Arialbi.ttf, ... according to the desired font style we want, but with SimSun font, there is only one file : SimSun.ttf.
Obviously, i have no choice for the font... I have to use SimSun.
Anyway, if i take a look at my PDF, the used fonts (in file>property>fonts>) i can see several personnalized fonts, each one corresponding to a SimSun style (one for SimSun, Bold, an other for SimSun, BoldItalic, ...) but everything is the same style on screen.
    Does somebody have an idea??
    Thanks a lot !
