• How to stop Omniboxes virus from hijacking Firefox?

I don't know how, but for some reason this Omniboxes.com virus hijacked my Firefox and I can't get rid of. What happens is that it forces Firefox to always go to Omniboxes.com when I open it up. The weird thing is that it only happens THE FIRST TIME. My homepage is set correctly: I can go to my homepage when I click on the button, and it also does so when I open up a new window. Right-clicking on Firefox and going to Properties also revealed the target destination is set correctly.
In addition I've deleted the harmful program from the software manager already, and ran the Malwarebytes program (and Quarantined harmful files). I've also checked Task Manager but no shady programs seem to be running in the background.
Anyone know how to fix this? As said, the weird thing is it ONLY happens once on startup, never after that as long as I have Firefox open. I've also got a few add-ons and extensions running (confirmed safe), so I'm not a fan of resetting Firefox.

If the homepage is correct and so is the start icon not sure what may have changed to do that. Create a new additional Firefox profile and try that. If that fails to open correctly maybe you have some modified Firefox and will need to try a clean reinstall.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

• Manually add search engines to firefox for use with Omnibar?

One extension I really enjoyed with Chrome was QuickMarks, which allowed you to type 'b ' in the omnibox to search and open bookmarks. I found you can use the '*' key in firefox but it doesn't work as efficiently as it doesn't bring it up for you, you have to tab through suggestions.
I use omnibar and like the way you can use multiple search engines with keywords at the beginning. Like 'g <search>' to search google for <search>. Is there a way to add manual search engines to this list? And better yet, is there any way to add bookmarks as a search engine? That way I could set the keyword to b, type 'b mo' <ENTER> and it would open up a Mozilla bookmark.

There probably is a way to open bookmarks in a tab, perhaps using the internal address of the Bookmarks Sidebar. But when I experiment with searches in the sidebar (Ctrl+b) or Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b) the order of the results is... I have no idea what order that is. So it doesn't strike me as more useful than the address bar in getting to the right result quickly.

• Firefox logo missing from new browser; would like to see it so I can know at a glance which browser I am using.

Bring back the logo or something else to allow quick identification of browser. Chrome doesn't have its logo in the browser either so now it going be harder to tell between the two. Is this a contest to see which can be more self effacing?

You can click the 3-bar Firefox menu button and open the Customize window.<br />
At the bottom of this window there is a button to enable showing the title bar.

Olá, também tivesse esse problema, ou foi mais ou menos assim.
Limpe os rastros do navegador em seu PC, vá em %appdata%, e exclua a pasta "Mozilla", passe um CCleaner na máquina também pra ver se da algo.
Boa sorte cara...

• On Android 4.2.2 on a Nexus7 tablet - No Firefox button and most text entry fields do not work at all

I installed Firefox 19.0.2 and appears to be ok, but I don't see a Firefox button anywhere, so I cannot access any of the functions that it controls, such as bookmarks, which is why I installed it!
The ASUS Nexus 7 tablet shows up as a supported platform.
I set it as the default link browser, but quickly realized that I could not enter text into any data entry fields, so I reset the default back to Chrome, which works fine for that.
I installed Firefox because bookmarks in Chrome are very lame, but I can't use bookmarks at all in Firefox, so again Chrome wins.
Any suggestions, before I uninstall it?

I am now a Democrat supporter. dccc.org does accept text input from my mobile.
The forum problem I mentioned earlier is apparently a known issue but only affecting legacy phones.

• Installation problem on new macbook pro i7 How do I get a DMG or firefox icon on desktop?

I can't see anything but the name label on the DMG file. The blue dialogue box only has the applications folder in it. I tried installing both 3.6 and 4 beta versions with the same result.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.<br />
Open the DMG file and drag to Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.<br />

• Just installed Firefox 4. It hangs when I open any website and type in, for example, an ID, or even just click on something, for example, "Compose", in my webmail site.

Here's the detail of what happens.
1. Turn on computer and then click on Firefox icon on desktop.
2. Firefox opens. Everything looks OK. Mr Bunsen's graphic is working fine.
3. Click on any webpage link. For example, a newspaper or an online webmail page. All looks OK until
4. Click on anything or type anything, such as in ID in a box, and bingo, the top line of Firefox goes from dark blue to very pale blue and the computer is hung. You cannot get out of Firefox or get Firefox to work.
5. Switch off computer.
Is this perhaps due to a clash of Add-ons. I run Avast anti-virus. McAfee came with Firefox 4 and I did not reject it. Is it conflicting wth something in my system and causing it to hang?

You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".
* Google "I'm Feeling Lucky": http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

• I automatically updated to Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac, and now the program misbehaves. It hangs when I try to quit. Can I downgrade to 4.0?

I was running 4.0 on my Intel Mac (Leopard 10.5.8), and everything was fine. Firefox automatically updated me to 4.0.1. Then I noticed my computer running very slowly. I am unable to quite Firefox without forcing a quit.
Can I reinstall 4.0? If so, where can I download the original version?
Thanks.

Your users agent is stuck at Firefox 3.0.11 due to a extension during when you had 3.0.11 and it tacked on stuff on end and kept it from updating the version number. This was due to the "Fast Browser Search toolbar" extension (FBSMTWB). This issue is not a problem with Firefox 4.0 and newer.
See this on how to reset it to normal. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/websites%20or%20add-ons%20incorrectly%20report%20incompatible%20browser#w_reset-your-user-agent

• I upgraded to the latest version of Firefox but it hangs when I use a search site such as Google or Bing. How can I fix this?

putting a search option in the search box to the right of the address bar opens up the full search window but then Firefox hangs.

Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed, and those websites don't know you are running Firefox 3.6.3 (which is what you do have installed).

type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Filter = general.useragent.
Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset,
Then restart Firefox

• Problem with Firefox and very heavy memory usage

For several releases now, Firefox has been particularly heavy on memory usage. With its most recent version, with a single browser instance and only one tab, Firefox consumes more memory that any other application running on my Windows PC. The memory footprint grows significantly as I open additional tabs, getting to almost 1GB when there are 7 or 8 tabs open. This is as true with no extensions or pluggins, and with the usual set, (firebug, fire cookie, fireshot, XMarks). Right now, with 2 tabs, the memory is at 217,128K and climbing, CPU is between 0.2 and 1.5%.
I have read dozens of threads providing "helpful" suggestions, and tried any that seem reasonable. But like most others who experience Firebug's memory problems, none address the issue.
Firefox is an excellent tool for web developers, and I rely on it heavily, but have now resorted to using Chrome as the default and only open Firefox when I must, in order to test or debug a page.
Is there no hope of resolving this problem? So far, from responses to other similar threads, the response has been to deny any responsibility and blame extensions and/or pluggins. This is not helpful and not accurate. Will Firefox accept ownership for this problem and try to address it properly, or must we continue to suffer for your failings?

55%, it's still 1.6Gb....there shouldn't be a problem scanning something that it says will take up 300Mb, then actually only takes up 70Mb.
And not wrong, it obviously isn't releasing the memory when other applications need it because it doesn't, I have to close PS before it will release it. Yes, it probably is supposed to release it, but it isn't.
Thank you for your answer (even if it did appear to me to be a bit rude/shouty, perhaps something more polite than "Wrong!" next time) but I'm sitting at my computer, and I can see what is using how much memory and when, you can't.
