OmniPortlet & Webclipping

Hi,
In PDK V2 January release, I don't see the OmniPortlet & Webclipping sample providers in the zip files. I only see URL-based, Webservices, partnerApp etc... any pointers ?

Facing dead links in Webclipping and Omniportlet (wwwc - 44234)

Hi all,
I�am deploying webclipping and omniportlet. It is nice stuff and works very well (sometimes performance is bad).
But, when a clipped Webpage is deleted, then in my nice webclipping-portlet an error occurs:
Error: Page not found (wwwc - 44234).
This looks somehow ugly. So, is there a way of detecting dead links and offer an alternativ content in the webclipping-content? Or, is there a way of getting notified, when portal detected a dead link / displayed the (wwwc - 44234) - Error?

--> it would be groovie, if this alternative link could also be clipped!
4. Field: Message for Time Out:

5. The error-detector should work, when a timeout occured, a dead link (wwwc - 44234) or some other error occured.
B New Administering Portlet for the Portlet Provider of Webclipping / Omniportlet:

Similar to the Notification Portlet, there could be a portlet, which shows all the dead links / errors in omniportlet and webclipping portlets on one sight. Therfore the error-detector should be adding the dead link and connected information (including: dead url, time, date, name of the portlet, page-path etc.) into a table, which can be deployed by an omniportlet/webclipping-dead-link portlet for administering:

WebClipping And omniPortlet

I have been trying to work with these two portlets and keep getting this error message.
"Error: The portlet could not be contacted.". When I go to Navigator and Providers section and click on Edit Definition of WebClipping portlet provider, I get this error message "Error : Insufficient Privilege. Please contact the administrator for privilege in Default Provider Builder Instance."
We just have upgraded portal to Oracle Portal Version: 10.1.4.0.0 (Build: 594). Need help.

Standalone Portal PDK - OmniPortlet Wizard - Where is it?

So, I have the latest revision of the PDK. It is installed and configured properly. I have even registered it as a provider in the portal. However, I do not see where I can invoke the OmniPortlet Builder or the WebClipping Builder wizards like we have in the portal environment.
Can someone point me to some documentation on this? Or am I missing something fundamental?

Omniportlet problems using web page as data source

When trying to set up an omniportlet using a web page as a data source
I get as far as defining the sectioning and scraping parts of the web clipping process.
When going on to the "filter" step of the process I always get an error message like:
Error
Failed to open specified URL. Check the following:
is the URL is active; is there a valid proxy setting or,
if HTTP authentication is required, check user name and password.

We are not using proxy servers for accessing external web pages in other cases
(so I wouldn't think we needed to now either), and this even happens for web
pages residing within our own network.

It appears that Oracle 10g reports doesn't support Web Service as pluggable data source. Is this option is available in Oracle 11g Reports or Oracle Discoverer Or OBIEE?

External RSS feed through Omniportlet?

Just curious to know how to get an external RSS news feed to work properly through the Omniportlet in 10g. I've got the feed coming in and filtered properly, but the link that is created when the portlet displays includes the base portal url (i.e. http://whatever.com/pls/portal/http://actual.newsfeed.url).
In looking through the online help for the Omniportlet, it states that you need to pass a fully qualified URL for external data, but there isn't a way to pass a qualified URL dynamically. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work on external RSS feeds if you need to hardcode the URL.
Am I missing something, or was this an oversight/bug?

Here are the answers to your questions:-
What is involved with upgrading to Portal Tools 9.0.4.0.2?
You need to upgrade only PortalTools and not complete OracleAS Portal. But because there is a dependency of PortalTools on OracleAS Portal, you need to verify the Pre-requisites for upgrading to a specific version of Portaltools. But as you are already on OracleAS Portal 904, you will not have any issues upgrading to the latest PortalTools 90402.
Is this upgrading the portal application, some small collection of portlets, or what?<br>
Portal Tools is a collection of deployable OracleAS Portal tools built on Oracle's PDK-Java technology.
This includes the following:
i. WebClipping
ii. OmniPortlet
Once you have deployed PortalTools, you can use the portlets contained within the pre-configured providers under the Portal Tools.
Isn't is possible to just upgrade the one portlet in OmniPortlet?
Upgrading to the latest PortalTools does not involve upgrading OracleAS Portal, it involves upgrading a set of Libraries and re-deploying the PortalTools application.

Problems with Nov PDK - omniportlet and samples

Hiya,
I have deployed the Novemeber PDK, OmniPortlet and WebClipping Portlets. I have done a manual installation inyo a 9iAS install. I have followed the instruction provided. The problem I have is that I'm not able to return the test page for these portlets eg http://server_name:7777/portalTools. can anyone please assist in diagnosing where I have gone wrong.

OmniPortlet Not displaying

I have setup PDKv2 July release on a Unix server, and I have configure my display setting. My web clipping is working fine, but my OmniPortlet is not displaying any information. I was trying to display data using the sample csv file and from SQL, but give me error. The error message is

Omniportlet proxy trouble

We have the PDK installed and it works fine, but there seems to be a proxy problem with the Omniportlet.
I have set the correct proxy adress and port number in the "servername:port/portalTools->OmniPortlet Provider->HTTP Proxy" page. I checked that the provider.xml file is correctly updated.
Proxy is also set correctly for the portal under the portal proxy settings on the Administer tab in Builder.
The trouble is that the portlets made with Omniportlet won't use the proxy settings. The portlets access an external xml feed, and unless we open for direct access on port 80 for the portal, the portlets show "Omniportlet timed out".
Any suggestions on what I can do? I've searched the forums but not yet found anyone describing a similar problem.

Hi Morten,
OmniPortlet does not expect proxy port to be 80 always. Moreover, both WebClipping and OmniPortlet use the same set of classes for proxy handling hence it's all the more curious that WebClipping works but OmniPortlet does not.
Could you do the following to allow me narrow down the problem?
1. Which PDK release you are using? If you are not using the latest (PDK July) I suggest you try with it first.
2. Please set OmniPortlet Logging level to 7 (you can do this by going to OmniPortlet's web.xml and set LogLevel param-value to 7.
3. Portal Tools application log location is:
- in iAS: <your_oc4j_instance>/application-deployments/portalTools/OC4J_Portal_default_island_1/application.log - in standalone OC4J instance: <your_oc4j_instance>/application-deployments/portalTools/application.log)
4. Connect now to the external xml feed.
5. Go back to the portalTools application log and search for the follwoing lines in it: SmartURL:openStream -> Start.
SmartURL:openStream -> Start processing to set proxy for the connection.
Please paste the Log messages appearing after this (the next 20 lines) in this post.
The log will help identify the problem.

Hyperlink Clipping in Omniportlet

I am using a web page with a list of hyperlinks as source data in an Omniportlet. I can use the webclipping studio to clip out the link description but not the underlying hyperlink URL so that I can't use the URL data for the hyperlink function in Omniportlet's Layout function.
Does anyone know any other ways to do it?

Correct me if I am wrong:
- you are using the Web Page data source to capture data.
- some of the data are links
- the studio allows you to capture the text but not the link
is that the problem ?
If yes it is an known issue and it is part of the enhancements we want to push in the product.

Omniportlet and reverse proxy

I have an Oracle Portal installation behind a reverse proxy with Portal on 1 server, SSO/OID on another server, and the database on a 3rd server.
Portal works fine, but Omniportlet and Webclipping are using the server name and port for the Portal server and not the reverse proxy URL. The Portal server name and port are, of course, not accessible to users.
There is no proxy between the Portal and the database.

In the server BorderManager setup "Aceleration -> Http Aceleration" I put WeB server port 22 / Named IP Address ip internal and in Proxy IP Addr the ip Public.
If i did a Tel 159.X.X.X 22 I can connect, but if use a program putty �
ssh 159.X.X.X commad i can not connect..!!!
Is there an error in my filter? o is there something else that i have to do ?

ok the solution that i find is... use the reverse proxy and Nat for the same ip and it works fine.
I can access to ssh without problem..!

OmniPortlet Connection Problem

I have a dozen or so synonyms created against a schema. I am able to use them all in various portlets except when I get to the OmniPortlet. Some of them fail with the error: 'ORA-00942: table or view does not exist' when creating the 'Source' tab of the tool.
Since I've used the synonym in other portlets, I'm confused why its not recognizing it in the OmniPortlet??
I am able to create OmniPortlets using some of the synonyms...but not others. Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas of what to check...???

We had a similar problem here with both Omniportlet and Webclipping.
The installed setting is also multi-tiered. The is load balancer at the front. The webcache is in the DMZ. The portal and infrastructure servers are behand another firewall. All are new installation, latest versions.
I don't know what's wrong. But here is what I observed.
1. The webclipping and omniportlet have been installed. When browse under Administration/Portlet, they are listed under the section of "Portlet Builders" in the Portlet Repository. But when you click on the link of "Omniportlet", you will get an error message of "This portlet cannot be contacted."
2. When you try to add a portlet to a region, these two portlets could not be located. They simply disappeared.
3. Under OEM, the portTools are listed as "loaded". Webclipping and omniportlet are also listed as "loaded".
4. When accessing the portTools provider configration page, that is, http://host:port/portTools, the pages shows.
Can someone help to point to a right direction to pinpoint the source of the problem? Thanks!

IPhone webclips can't be deleted? [HELP]

I have a bit of an annoying problem. I upgraded my original phone to the 2.0 software and started getting rid of webclips I don't need anymore. Unfortunately, a few of the clips wouldn't go away. They disappear when you touch the "X", but reappear anytime I download something from the App Store.
The especially troublesome part is that I upgraded to a 3G, and now I have two phones with the same set of persistent icons.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It happens whenever there is an application added or removed from the phone - either through iTunes or through the App Store on the phone. The 2.0.1 update didn't seem to change the behavior.

Safari won't create webclips in dashboard

This was an issue in my previous version of Safari as well, but I'd hoped that updating to 5.0.1 would fix it (it didn't). When trying to create a webclip in dashboard from safari, I select the element, hit add, and *nothing happens*. Dashboard doesn't open, safari doesn't do anything other than get rid of the webclip purple bar. The behavior is the same whether it's a clip from an external webpage or if it's a local image file on my own HD.
I've tried:
1. Resetting Safari (Safari > Reset Safari)
2. Deleting the User .plists (com.apple.dashboard, .dashboard.client, .safari)
I'm running no extensions nor custom CSS sheets. I literally only use safari for webclip widgets and to troubleshoot java or flash heavy websites that chrome seems to choke on. A search of these boards didn't turn up anything. Please help!

Open a Finder window. Select your home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.dock.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari and try a web clip.
This was an issue in my previous version of Safari as well
That's not a good thing.
If deleting the .dock.plist didn't help, login to another user account. Try creating a web clip there for Dashboard. See if you can do it there.
