On 24th july I purchased Lion 10.7.4

I already paid USD 29.99
how can I update to Mountain lion?

Buy it for $20.  There is no free upgrade for purchasers of Lion, only for purchasers of a new Mac.  You could try asking Apple for a refund, since you bought it the day before Mountain Lion's release, but there's no requirement that they give you one.

What day in July is Mountain Lion included on Macbook Pro purchase?

There's no telling when a Mac with Mountain Lion pre-installed will hit the stores. It all depends on when the factory begins installing OS X 10.8 on the drives. The Mac's at the store aren't necessarily 'old' - maybe a month old at best - and it's just going to take some time for the factory to catch-up with the latest OS.
I don't see any reason - other than not having an Internet connection - to put off the purchase of a Mac until it has Mountain Lion on it. When I bought my MBP in March, it was manufactured in the fifth week of 2012 - February - and I had to do some Software Updates. OS X 10.8 is just another update which you can choose to install or not. If you bought any Mac after June 11th, it's a free update.
You can wait to make a purchase after the stores get machines with ML installed but I don't see the point.

  • I still have OS X 10.6.8. Am I going to have to purchase Lion before I purchase Mountain Lion?

I never upgraded to Lion (10.7.x), because I was told to wait for Mountain Lion. I didn't see much that really made me interested in Lion anyways.. Once Mountain Lion comes out in July am I going to have to purchase
Lion first, and then also purchase Mountain Lion..?

Yeah I have no idea what the answer to my question is. I am getting a million people saying that I don't have to pay, a million people saying I do. Here's what I've got:
I really do know everything about my laptop, but when it comes to the operating system I do not know a thing about it and I'm not getting much help haha. I have no idea if I have Snow Leopard or not. I got my macbook pro in 2010 never did any upgrades on it. I've been told 10.6.8 is Lion and I've been told it's Snow Leopard. I don't have a clue.

you have to go to the site http://www.apple.com/benl/macosx/uptodate/
change the "benl" to the code of your country/region (else your reseller isn't recognized)
type in the Serial number + purchase date, reseller name etc. then u have to login with your apple id.
PS : you will need a credit card to complete the steps.

  • Do I need Snow Leopard before purchasing Lion

Hi. im currently running Leopard and want to purchase Lion when it comes out.  I didn't get Snow Leopard when it came out but do i need it to purchase Lion or can i go straight from Leopard to Lion?
    Thanks

Apple - OS X Lion - Sign up to be notified when Lion is available.
Apple - OS X Lion - Get Lion in July. Only from the Mac App Store.    Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM. The Lion upgrade can be installed on all your authorized personal Macs.

  • I'm about to purchase Lion.  My husband and I each have a desktop, iPad and iPhone.  We currently use one Apple ID for iPad/phone purchases.  Can we purchase 2 copies of Lion with one Apple ID?

I'm about to purchase Lion.  My husband and I each have a desktop, iPad and iPhone.  We currently use one Apple ID for iPad/phone purchases.  Can we purchase 2 copies of Lion with one Apple ID or do we have to use different Apple IDs for the purchase?  If we use the different Apple IDs can we still use the same ID for all of our purchases.

And just in case you were wondering, installing one purchased copy on all the Macs you own is specifically called out as allowed in the Mac OS X Lion license.
If you do not want to download multiple times, just copy the Applications -> Install Lion app to a safe place BEFORE you do the first install.  Then copy that copy to any Mac you own where you want to install Lion.

  • I Restored My Imac, But I Can't Install Moutain Lion As It Says I Haven't Purchased Lion. This Is Because I Went From Snow Leopard Straight To Mountain Lion. PLEASE HELP

So my mac is pretty much useless becuase i can't install mountain lion after a restore of my mac.
I have an imac late 2008 which i bought second hand. It only had Leopard OS X. So I bought the Snow Leopard OS X discs and installed them. I then bought Mounain Lion Straight from the app store and downloaded that.
However I recently decided to restore it for extra space. So i restored it fine and then attempted to reinstall Mountain Lion. Then a message popped up saying that 'This Apple ID has not purchased Lion' meaning that i can't now install Mountain Lion.
I then inserted the Snow Leopard disc and then it would not give me the option to install it on my hard drive and there was a little yellow caution sign on the picture of the hard drive.
I am stumped for ideas now and REALLY NEED SOME HELP
    Thanks,
    Fin

If you installed Leopard that is why you can't install Mt Lion. The system Must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion or Mt Lion.
If you only erased the Macintosh HD partition then you left the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition in tact on that system. At startup hold down the Command+r keys to boot to the Recovery HD Partition. From there erase the Macintosh HD partition and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. It should then download Mt Lion and ask you for the Apple ID that was used to purchase Mt Lion.
The Reason Snow Leopard might not be installing is because of the Recovery HD partition. To get rid of that you must First Re-Partition the drive As One Partition. Then install Leopard then SL (Or Snow Leopard from the start) and then update it to 10.6.8. Once that is done you should be able to log on to the Mac App Store and Re-Download Mt Lion.

  • Purchased Lion, installed it - once I log in - i get the curtain and message to hold the power button till it shuts down.  Worked with the disk repair utility - fixed permissions - still can't get past the "black curtain of death"  any suggestions?

My machine was patched to date 10.x.x.  I was lucky to get an internet connection and I selected the option to re-download Lion... its curruently being downloaded.  What if that doesn't work?
    Any thougths would be appreciated.

And you have a workstation? not a notebook.
Usually a driver or hardware, nothing that Disk utility will fix.

  • I don't know the account used to purchase Lion (it was already installed when I bought my Mac). How may I found it to reinstall my mac from scratch ?

My mac has issues with the software used to manage my hard drive and I have to reinstall it from scratch (the genius guy tell me that).
So, I have erased all my HD and try to reinstall Lion. But they ask me to login with the account used to purchase Lion and I don't know it since Lion was already install on my mac...
Do you know how I can find what is this account ? (I have already tried my 2 known apple account. Maybe there are others...)
    Thanks in advance !

    Thanks for your answer !
Yes, I buy the MacBook Pro new with Lion installed.
I have already followed the steps described in the section "Recovery system" of your link. (command-R, ...). But when I want to reinstall, they ask me to login with the account used to buy Lion (which I didn't bought since it was already installed)...
    So, I'm stuck there :/

Purchased Lion, got the codes, etc.
Can't get to site ... get re-directed to "Yosemite" site ... no "quick links" to the download.

    Yep, that did it!
Thanks for helping the incredibly stupid.

Follow the instructions that came with the redemption code. If you are, provide details on what's happening where, including any messages. Alternatively, contact http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/  since they're responsible for making this work.

  • I currently have Snow Leopard.  Do I have to purchase Lion before I purchase Mountain Lion which will be coming out soon?

Do I have to purchase Lion before I can purchase Mountain Lion due out soon?

no one can answer this with 100% accuracy until the system requirements for 10.8 are officially released.  They can only guess, which is of no help.

  • Just bought a used macbook pro and it was wiped clean. how do I purchase Lion or maverick to start it up??

My daughter just purchased a macbook pro and it was wiped clean. It says we need to purchase Lion. How do we do that? We can't find it in the app store

It has a question mark inside the quick time logo everytime I click on it
If you mean you are trying to play a file and the QT icon with a quesion mark appears in the display area, then this means the play has reached a programming disjunction and doesn know what to do—i.e., the player recognizes the content but something is preventing proper playback is telling the user it has a question as to how the content is to be played. In such cases you normally have to determine what content, what file container, and which player version is involved before you can decide how to best fix the problem.

  • Why do we have to buy mountain lion when we bought lion? Others who didn't purchase lion don't have to pay for it to move to mountain lion

why do we have to buy mountain lion when we bought lion? Others who didn't purchase lion don't have to pay for it to move to mountain lion.

As far as I know the only people not having to pay for Mountain Lion are the ones that have purchased a apple computer after the 4th of june or something. These people get a free upgrade. All others will have to pay for a copy of Mountian Lion.
Do you maybe have a source, which states that others don't have to pay for it, where people that have bought Lion do have to pay?
    With kind regards,
    Wes
