  • Need Help - Mac Mini no longer works with LG Television

Sometime ago (maybe about two months), my Mac Mini quit working with my LG Plasma HD TV. Currently, when I try to use the Mac Mini with the television, the screen displays a "no signal" message.
The Mac Mini is a one year old Intel Core Duo and is connected using a DVI to HDMI cable.
    I've troubleshooted:
    1. Connected the Mac Mini to our 42" Sharp Aquous LCD - it displays fine.
    2. Taken the Mac Mini to the Genius bar. It displayed on the genius' Apple display w/no probs.
    Since then, I've tried:
    1. Reinstalled/rolled back to Leopard DVDs (no updates applied) - No luck
    2. "Driving" the Mac Mini via Screen Sharing using my MacBook and monkeying with the Display preference pane. While screen sharing, I tried using SwitchResX, too (not too certain of the settings though) - No luck.
    Of note:
    1. Before the trouble began, I was pleasantly surprised to see "LG" (automatically) listed as the display in the Display preference panel. Support was literally plug and play. Currently, when I drive via Screen Sharing, "LG" is no longer listed. Alternatively, when I connect to the Sharp Aquous, the Display preference panel DOES list "Sharp" as the display.
    Any ideas?

I'd be interested in any resolution here. Here's my story:
I have a Mac Mini model MA723LL/A and a Haier P42LV6-T1 42" HDTV plasma with VGA and HDMI inputs. I first attempted to hook the Mac to the plasma TV using the DVI->VGA adapter that came with the Mac. I got no image at all on the TV, and the TV claimed 'No Signal'.
Then I used a DVI->HDMI adapter, and hooked the Mac to the TV thru the HDMI port. I got a picture and was happy. I setup iTunes, got the wireless working, surfed the web a bit and all was OK except the resolution seemed wonky. So I opened the Mac's settings panel to adjust the resolution, and as soon as I opened the settings panel, the screen went blank, with the TV claiming 'No Signal'. I shut off the Mac and rebooted, and from that point forward, what happens is this:
    press On Button->
    Apple Boot Screen->
    MacOS 10 loading->
    desktop For About 1 millisecond->
screen goes blank with TV claiming 'No Signal'
I hooked the Mac to my Dell 20" LCD monitor thru the monitor's DVI input and got a great picture. I tested all the resolution settings, and everything was fine. I have tested the Mac on the TV with all available resolution settings and it's always the same story (see above for sequence)
I'm kinda at the end of my rope. The Mac seems to be changing something on its video output at the end of its bootup, but I have no clue what. Has anyone seen anything like this? Any advice at all?

  • Mac mail no longer works with iCloud

Since installing icloud, my mac mail is no longer working.

You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:

  • Mac Powerbook no longer works with my routers but is working at other wireless locations?

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and have been experiencing this internet connection issue to my router for about a year. Any help with this issue would be great!!! Thank you!

What is the Model no of the Router...?
    Who is your ISP...?
Are you not able to go online or facing intermittent connection ..?
Are you able to go online from the computer wired to the router...?
Try changing the wireless channel on the router, change the SSID(Network Key),check the security and try to connect again on the computer.

  • HT3748 since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mail no longer works well w/exchange email; so, I have had to switch back to outlook. Now, how can I use outlook for mac's calendar and contacts with icloud?

Since uprgading to Mountain Lion, my mac mail no longer works with my exchange email properly. I finally gave up and moved back to outlook for mac, but now my new issue is using outlook calendar and contacts with icloud; possible?

Sorry but I'm really not to sure what I have. I'm not good with knowing my computer model. All I know is that its a MacBook running with Leopard. I got my computer last year so I suppose its fairly new. Is there a place on my computer where I can check to see what it is (sorry to be so dumb with my own mac)
And everything else works fine. I love Safari. It's just my mail that doesn't work. Here's the message that pop up several times.
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user “akcastaldo”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel."
The only problem here is, even though I enter my password it doesn't do anything. It makes that message go away for about 3-5 mins. After that it pops right back up. And I can't even go into my preference and change my email password. So I don't know what to do.

Have I been hijacked? also sites that I use daily are clipped and entire pages are smaller than usual . see www.shockwave.com
If u are no longer supporting Mac users, please let us know in advance or at least post it on ur site. Can no longer use Firefox...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Cmd+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    Firefox > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
If you open about:crashes, you should get links to online crash reports. You could post some of the crash IDs for review by volunteers here.
Given the timing, another issue might be some ads or media in the page. There are some add-ons to block such things...

Use an earlier version of Firefox, use Safari, or upgrade to a later version of OS X. Any Intel Mac can run Snow Leopard.

  • Firefox just sent a notice that it no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5. Is that why my gmail calendar keeps non- or dysfuntioning?

I have been experiencing constant dysfunction in my Gmail calendar on my Mac Mini, but not on any other computer. It happens whether I am using Safari or Firefox.   This morning Firefox sent a notice that is no longer works with Mac OS X 10.  Suggestions?

Your best bet is to get a computer capable of running the latest version of Mac OS X - Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). This is the most secure option and will allow you to run the latest and greatest Firefox.
That is a pretty crazy suggestion just to update a browser! There is another alternative if you are worried about having an unsupported browser.
You can run TenFourFox whose purpose is to support older Macs.

  • Why does my ipod no longer work with my alpine car stereo

my ipod connects directly to my alpine car stereo and up til now it has worked great. i recently synced my ipod to my computer and i think it updated the software on my ipod and now my ipod no longer works with my alpine stereo. what is up? did apple change something that would make my ipod no longer compatible with my car stereo? if so, what do i do? i have about $1000 invested in my car stereo and ipod specifically for car use. this is a serious issue for me! i just want my ipod to work like it did…
i just connected my friends ipod and it works fine. he has version 1.1.1 software on his. i have version 2.3 on mine. since my ipod works fine by itself i’m assuming that the incompatibility between my ipod and my alpine is due to the software update.
here again, what do i do? how can i get an older version of software back on to my ipod?
    ipod v.2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

what kind of connection do you have? do you use the ipod 30 pin cable that connects directly to the head unit? it so, maybe you could get help on the alpine site, or a similar site?it could just be a bad connection. you may just have to go oldschool and use rca cables and plug those in...

  • Onboard Mac Lan no longer works after 1.9 update!!!

I was using bios v1.8 and both my Mac Lan and my Giga Lan were working perfectly fine. Now that i updated to v1.9 my Mac Lan no longer works but my Giga is fine!!!
My Mac Lan still gets an ip address from my router, but i cannot ping the router nor anyone else on the network and my internet does not work!! So right now im using my Giga lan but i want my other one working like it was.
I tried going BACK to v1.8 but it did not fix the problem, so i went back yet again to v1.9 and im still left with the same problem.  Ive tired disabling it and re-enabling it in both the bios and in windows and still nothing. Ive also tried re-installing the drivers and that did not work either. I even ran a Winsock Fix but that didn't fix the problem either.
Is anyone else having this problem besides me? what can i do to fix it???

Download new bios and extract it to a directory where you can find it (root of c:\ if you are lazy like me).  Run wminfo if you are paranoid about losing your mac address and copy it down for your nvidia adapter.
Restart windows in safe mode.  Close every application down in task manager.
Run winflash as described below and CHECK ALL THE RIGHT BOXES TO UPDATE BOOTBLOCK AND TO CLEAR THY CMOS.  Read Syar's description below as that is what I used:
    Quote from: syar2003 on 30-July-05, 00:24:48
No , floppy flash is not neccesary !
    Can use
    C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\Award
    winflash.exe
    Place checkmarks on bootblock/dmi area/update all/clear cmos
During flashing you see it will verify the programming of the bios chip .
And the good thing is unlike dos flash you can redo it if it fails , just by starting taskmanager and kill winflash.exe
and start over (as long as the machine isn't powered down or restarted).
I always say no after the flashing when asked to restart , exit the winflash utility , make a normal shutdown , turn off PSU for 10 seconds , then turn back
on , enter bios and load optimized default , followed by a boot to build/update dmi pool .
Kill all unwanted apps in the systemtray before running winflash and dont have any other applications running .
Best way is to boot to windows safemode .

So Can My Mac Be Made To Work With iChatAV ?
This question is asked by many who find their computer is below the G3/600Mghz Specs limit set for iChat
See here in the second table top left box the listing of the G3/600
Please note there are different Specs for Audio and Video chat.
This linked Apple Doc has been re-written several times since it originally cam out that it does not quite carry the same help as it once did
It is presumed that you are going to want to take as much advantage of iChat as you can. So I will talk about Video chatting.
    For Jaguar (10.2.5 - 10.2.8)
Prior to the beginning of Oct 2004 there was a Jaguar version of iChat AV on sale at the Apple Store as a download. If you are at 10.2.5 - 10.2.8 and downloaded the $29.95 Version 2.0 of iChat for Jaguar, in preperation of using iChat, before this date, you may find some of this information useful.
    The WWDC Anouncement
If you did not buy it, your only option is to upgrade to Panther.
    For Panther (10.3.x) and Jaguar (10.2.5 -10.2.8)
IF you fall below the G3/600 mark then you will need this utility, iChatUSBCam from Ecamm.com This will enable the external iSight to work at lower spec machines. The current reported lower limit is around the G3/350Mhz mark.
It is also will enable USB cameras for use with iChatAV, but there is little in the way of substantive information about Sub G3/600 computers achieving this.
There have been about a dozen posts to say that it will use a USB cam on a G3 as low as 400Mgz
It should be noted that computers of this age tend to lack Multi-Tasking and will find that iChat will take up most of their processor time.

This is a link to the drivers already installed in the Mac OS. The download is not required. *See note below
Apple used to list the DV camcorders that work with the drivers already in the Mac OS but now Apple no longer does so (Link removed from this section). *See note below.
Essentially any Firewire camera will work with the OS. Some MiniDV formats can not be seen by iChat though.
Many USB Webcams will work if you are at 10.4.8 or earlier or only UBS 1.1 ports. This will need the Mac Drivers and the IChatUSBCam utility.
*Note: Both these last two lists were updated Jan 2004 or before. The purpose of pointing this out to highlight the fact that new cameras have come on the market since. They may work with these drivers or have their own Mac Firewire drivers on their accompanying install CDs.
The Current list for Firewire Webcams is now here as linked above.
    For Tiger (10.4) and up.
Much of what has been said before applies to you as well. Most firewire web cams will work DV Camcorder will work. USB cameras can work with the correct Mac Driver and the iChatUSBCam utility.
    However....
10.4.9 now adds a driver for USB Video Class (UCV) web cams that will work with the OS and iChat. Not all USB video cams are of this type and iChatUSBCam is still needed.
    Mulit-Video Chatting
This was added to iChat at iChat 3 in Tiger (10.4.x)
As can be seen from the Specs linked earlier you need a Mac over a certain Spec (G4/1Ghz Dual) to be able to Host Video chats. (plus Internet Speed).
Ecamm come to people rescue again with PowerBoost if your Mac does not reach those specs.
    Leopard 10.5
In Leopard the criteria is also for a mac of a certain spec before you even start, This is a G4/867Mghz processor. If you have problems then see this Apple Doc There is also some evidence that this helps other macs with the same message even if not this spec machine.

  • My XP printer no longer works with snow leopard over the network

My XP networked printer (Samsung 4200) no longer works with snow leopard after Mac update.  Printer hooked up to XP and can access it through network.
When I print it requests that I to authenticate the printer with a user name and password but it's not password protected. I don't have a password, but I tried all the usuals anyways.
It worked fine a couple days ago, and I've tried everything since.  I've reset my printers, turned off both computers.  Plugged the printer directly into the Mac - didn't work at first but downloaded a new driver Splix - 2 (Samsung doesn't make an OS X driver for this printer) and got it working.  Reinstalled Bonjour on the PC, which can't even see a printer now.  Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    THanks in advance.

Connecting from a Mac to Windows is password protected. If you tried to connect to a shared folder on Windows you would also be prompted to enter your Windows credentials. So when you do print next time, enter your Windows user details and password. If XP has no password then set one - it is bad practise to have a Windows computer without a password. And updates to Mac OS X expect you to have one set in the Windows computer.
If for some reason you don't want to set a password in XP then enable the Guest account and you can use this on the Mac when you get the prompt (either select Guest or type it in).

I got a new keyboard and my function keys no longer work with it.  I am used to have them used in the standard format, i.e. F10-F12 control the voume, etc.  I have the "Use all f1,f2, etc." button clicked.  I have also tried restarting my computer.  Any thoughts?

Try doing a SMC reset and PRAM reset.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
