On Airport Utility 5.6.1 Trying to recover Guest Network Tab

Using a Time Capsule as an Airport. I lost my Guest Network Tab. In Internet settings my Connection Sharing field is on Bridge Mode. Changing it to 'Share a Public IP Adress' brings back my guest tab. Very Nice! When trying to update however I get an error saying Router Address not compatible with WAN IP Address. Ideas? Thank You.

Download the updater from the Apple Support site and run it.

  • What happened to my airport extreme that airport utility says used to be part of my network but no longer is found?

I have been working on regaining wireless printing from my MacBook and just discovered something new to me. I brought up Airport Utility and received a screen display showing my network. The diagram box for the Airport Extreme  has a warning icon and clicking on the diagram box for the Airport Extreme  brings up the message that my airport extreme cannot be found and that it USED TO BE part of my network.  The only help given is to check the device and make sure it is plugged into power, within range and connected to the Internet.  Its been a long time since I last set up the Airport Extreme, but it is powered up, in the same place and connected to my cable modem as before.  I continue to  have wireless connection to the Internet from my MacBook and iPhone. What I do not have is wireless connection from the the MacBook to my Brother Printer as I did until, for unknown reasons, it stopped working.
So far, I have checked all the help for the printer problem and wonder if my problem is in the Airport Extreme?  The printer does find the Airport Extreme, but still does not print wirelessly, only by attaching it with USB cable to the MacBook.
Resetting the Airport Extreme will wipe out that setup, but should I do this anyway?  Might it help the printer problem.
Thanks for your help. I've worked on this a long time using available material.

I see now that long questions are not going to be read and answered.  Understandable.  Since writing this I got help on one aspect of question and now have Airport Extreme visible through Airport Utility and it seems to work.   However the wireless printer still does print. On the printer's screen, it recognizes my wireless network and connects. When I try to print from the MacBook, the usual printer icon comes up, but with Printer is Offline.  Printer is Not Connected.  So far, nothing in Apple or Brother help has given me answer to this problem.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Latest airport utility update won't let me rename 5GHz network?

The latest airport utility update changed the name of my 5GHz network and won't let me change it back, anyone else having this problem?

You might want to take a look at AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion. It is very similar to the previous version of AirPort Utility.

Yes, you can have both 6.0 and 5.6 on your Mac and choose the one that you want to use. I think you may find that while 6.0 is fun to look at, 5.6 provides a lot more functionality.

  • Can not see Guest Network tab on Airport Extreme-

I have an Airport Extreme base station with the Guest Network enabled. Last week my neighbour bought a brand new Airport Extreme base station and asked me to help set it up. Problem is that I can't see the Guest Network tab on his Airport Extreme when I use the Airport Utility. I can see it on mine.
In fact, as the networks are close I can see both airports at the same time. I have verified that the firmware versions are the same.
    Any clues?
    Thanks in advance.

Your friend likely has a gateway (combination modem/router) from his service provider. Since this device performs as both a modem and a router, and the AirPort Extreme is also a router, you have two routers in series on the same netowrk.
When this occurs, the second router...the AirPort Extreme in this case....must be configured in Bridge Mode for correct network operation.
    Check the following setting:
    AirPort Utility > Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
Is the setting for Connection Sharing set to Off (Bridge Mode)?
If yes, the Guest Network feature is not available in this setting. Your friend will need to replace his gateway with a simple modem if he wants to enable the Guest Network feature.

  • Airport utility is not working on Windows. I can configure Airport Expresses with the Macbook but multiple computers with Windows and the latest Airport Utility time out after trying to connect to the router for setup.

I have been trying to setup Airpot Expresses (both old and new models) for a while now with the Airpot Utility 5.6.1 for Windows without any luck. I have tried this on multiple windows machines, factory reseted the devices if I needed to, but I have not had any success since this software arrived. I see the routers on the Airport Utility UI, I click on it then try to connect to set it up. At this point, it gets stuck with a long progress bar trying to connect to the device without any success. I also have a Macbook Pro, and this device & software has had no trouble setting up the routers. The problem is, we are shipping these small routers out to customers who use Windows machines and it is vital that the user can modify the settings using Airpot Utility. I am at a loss for what to do and if we can't find any solutions, we are going to move on to a different company for the routers we ship out.

Thanks a lot i followed the instructions for safe mode (i found out that i was pressing the C button after restarting) i did whats written there but the repair couldn't be performed so in addition i needed to re-formate the HD so i erased the volume and then repaired the disk--> quite disk utilities --> start the installation from the installation DVD.
    Thanks really appreciating your help

  • I have connected a new time capsule to a dsl modem.  It doesnt see the internet. Airport utility says: Disconnected. But it isnt. Internet tab shows PPPoE. Must I enter Account Name or Password? If so, where do I find them? If not, what do I do?

I have connected a new Time Capsule to a DSL modem using an ethernet cable . The modem is working fine and connected fine. But the Time Capsule doesnt seem to be talking to the modem.  If I click the internet Icon in Airport Utility  it shows Disconnected. If I click the Time Capsule icon and go to the internet tab it shows  Connect using PPPoE. Is that what it should be? In the box below there is place for an account name and password. DO I need to filll these out and if so what do I put there--information about the Time Capsule of informationabout the Modem? And where do I find the information.
Or am I completely on the wrong track.

Thanks. The modem is a Speedtouch ST585  v6. How do I know whether it is in adsl bridge?  Also this is a modem-***-router. Does that make a difference?
If you did not put it in bridge then it is not in bridge..
Connect a computer directly to the modem.. open the browser to either 192.168.1.254 or 10.0.0.138 (if neither of those work you will have to check the IP address your ISP has set).
BTW who is your ISP and do they allow PPPoE.. for instance most ISP in UK do not use pppoe so you have no choice but to run the 585 as a router. In which case bridge the TC
Anyway.. open the setup configuration in the Thomson and select a template that says bridge.. run through the wizard and it will then bridge the modem.
And I am using Airport Utility 6.0. How do I get the earlier version?
By reading the site link I just gave you.. downloading the utility and running it on your computer. Or simply google to 5.6 lion airport utility... that is the way I find things when I don't have the link memorised.
Finally, AIrport Utility shows a number in a red dot next to the time capsule icon, currently 2. What is that for? What does it tell us?
Firstly download the useful utility.. but the dots tell you something is wrong and preventing the TC from working.. if you open the utility it should tell you what the errors mean.. I cannot tell you what they are, but it is likely to be no internet connection and pppoe has failed.

  • HT4259 Airport Utility 6.1 does note show "extend wireless network" option.  How do I find the feature

I have an airport extreme and the utility is 6.1.  I also have an airport express.  I'd like to use the airport express to extend the WiFi.  The "extend the wireless network" option does not show up in the Airport Utility 6.1.  How do I go about finding that option?  Is it something that doesn't need to be checked in Airport Utility 6.1?

I'm having the same issuse, the only work around I have found is by using an older version of airport utility

  • AirPort Extreme - No guest network tab

I'm trying to create a guest network but there is no guest tab on the utility menu... How can I resolve? Thanks!!

It doesn't say simultaneous dual band... Is that the issue?
Yes. You have an older version of the AirPort Extreme. It is not possible to "update" or "upgrade" the older version to the +simultaneous dual band+ version.
anything else i can do to set up a separate guest access
You could add an AirPort Express and connect it to the AirPort Extreme with an ethernet cable. Configure the Express with a different wireless network name and password. The downside to this type of setup is that "guests" will be able to "see" the devices on your network...other computers, hard drives, etc.
If you get the simultaneous dual band version of the AirPort Extreme and setup the Guest Network, "guests" will be able to connect to the Internet, but they will not be able to "see" any of the devices on your main or "private" network.

  • Using Airport Express on separate subnet to make isolated Guest Network?

Hi. I've done a search here, I've tried setting this up at my house but haven't figured it out yet.
Friends have Verizon FiOS service. They're using the provided modem as the ethernet router and it is handing out DHCP addresses, and for a number of reasons including their home theater, on demand use, etc., they want to keep the FiOS modem as the router, not an Apple product.
We're using an Airport Extreme and a Time Capsule both in bridge mode to distribute the wireless network and everything works fine. They'd like to add an isolated, unencrypted Guest Network. I know we can't use the Extreme's Guest tab because we're in bridge mode.
But we do have a new Airport Express. It seems like there would be a way to set up a Double NAT on a different subnet and give guest users access to the internet but not to computers, shared volumes, printers, and everything else on the primary, encrypted network.
Is there a way to do this or will every address coming from the FiOS router be on the same subnet? Are there any other horrible consequences from doing this, i.e., the primary network will still operate fine?
If the DHCP range coming from the FiOS router is 192.168.15.001 to 192.168.15.199, do I set the Airport Express IP address manually? To what?
To eliminate the possibility of duplicate IP addresses would you have the Airport Express hand out a small range of IPs on a completely different network area, like 10.0.1.1?
    Any other suggestions? Thank you.

I was trying to create a primary and guest network division after the router... such as an unusual configuration in the AEBSn after the FiOS router.
At my home I have my cable modem connected to an AEBSn, which is doing my network's routing. But I didn't set a Guest Network on this AEBSn. I am trying to set up a discrete Guest Network downline from this router. (Which would simulate my friend's installation where they're using a FiOS modem/router all in one and we want to create a discrete Guest Network after that.)
But as I guess you've been patiently trying to get through to me, Bob, whatever outlying separation you may be able to create seems to get put back together at the main router.
For example, today I connected a second AEBSn ("AEBSn Guest") to the LAN port of my primary AEBSn router. I set the AEBSn Guest to create a wireless network, and I set that to be a closed encrypted network called "Test," and I enabled unencrypted Guest Networking as usual and told the AEBSn to ignore the Double NAT error.
With this configuration I am able to get on the open Guest SSID, and internet connection is normal. Between the Guest and the primary encrypted network, printing is broken, iPhoto sharing is broken, and so on, but I still see shared volumes and can log in with authentication.
So I can see why a solution to this may have been elusive.
I don't know much about cable TV's subscription services but I took a peek at the set up pages of the Verizon FiOS router and noted there was a lot going on there. Lots of ethernet and cable IP addresses to Set Top Boxes, etc. Not sure if all this could be recreated within the administration of the Airport Extreme, but I am hesitant to risk messing up the Comcast services which are presently working well.
In terms of zooming out to the big picture... when I invite guests to share my internet service, they're usually doing email and web browsing for the weekend but at the end of their stay they want to print their boarding passes... so despite setting up a guest network I might end up giving them access to the main network anyway.
    Thanks for the help, Bob.

  • 3 Airport Extremes, 1 as router 2 as APs, Guest Network

I have 3 Airport Extremes, all 5th Gen, all Wired with CAT6. I have the first one setup as DHCP and NAT, with wireless off(basically acting as just a router)...Then its connected to a gigabit switch whitch then the 2 other Airport Extremes are set in bridge mode to create the same network name and pass.  What i am wondering is can i still create a guest network? the option shows up in wireless in AU 6, but i noticed there is no way to set the IP range as for obvious reasons (they arent in dhcp mode)...has anyone tried this or have any advice?

so the first AEBS has to have wifi enabled? in order for the other 2 AEBS to create the guest network?
Yes. If the Guest Network is not enabled on the first AirPort, then other AirPorts will not be able to extend a network that is not there in the first place.
what if i the 2 AEBS wifi stations are in dhcp only and guest network enabled
    This will not work.
is the a way to have all 3 AEBS on the same wireless channel to create this?
The correct setup in a roaming network is for each AirPort to be separated by 4-5 channels from others. This will usually happen automatically if you use the default "Automatic" Radio Mode setting, or you can set channels manually.  You would not want each AirPort to use the same channel.

  • Airport Extreme off a Router which provides DNS - Guest Networks

I am sure that I am not alone here.
I have a BTBroadband wireless ADSLModem/Router which provides DNS for the network.
Off tyhe router is a Netgear switch which has connected to it an Airport Extreme. Also off this switch I have many other peripherals - such as Time Capsule, iMac etc.
So the arrangement is simple in logical terms:
BT Modem------->Wireless Router (which allocates DNS)---------->Switch----------->Airport Extreme  etc.
    IP Settings as follows
192.168.0.1 for Wireless Router - which allocates DNS in range 192.168.0.2 to 0.150.
I have allocated a fixed IP on the Airport Extreme of 192.168.0.151
The devices thart run off this are all having DNS allocated by the router - not the Airport Extreme.
So - how do I set up (or can I set up) the Guest Wireless Network?
Let's assume Router Wireless Network is call MainWireless with a Password MainWord, The Airport Extreme is acting in Bridge Mode and has the exact same 'Create a wireless network' called MainWIreless and Password MainWord (as per best practices in using these to provide the best 'network hopping' capabilities for devices (I actually have 2 other wireless devices from TimeCapsules that operate the wireless in the same way).
    All of this works fine.
However when I set up the Guest Network on the Airport Extreme - simply by enabling it - I provide a new Guest Network name of GuestWireless with a password GuetsPassword. In theory it should all work fine, however the devices connecting to the Guest Network cannot get to the internet (effectively I don't think that the 'iPhone for example' is being allocated a correct IP Address - in fact I know that it isn't as its a 169 range and a different subnet).
So - the only way I can think of doing this is to go into the Network Settings on the Airport Extreme, Change Bridge Mode Wireless to DHCP and NAT and then go into Network Options. Here I am a bit lost and need help.
To summarise - Main Router Address 192.168.0.1 allocates range 192.168.0.2 to 150, Airport Extreme Address (static) address 192.168.0.151.
Airport Extreme DHCP and NAT Network Options has:
    IPv4 DHCP Range - I have set to 192.168.0.152 to 255
    Guest IPv4 DHCP Range 10.0.0 152 to 255
NAT Port Mapping Protocol is switched Off
    - This won't even save.
Should be simple I would have thought. Think again...
Please help - mwhat should I / can I do to enable a guest wireless network?

Thanks for all that - I suspected as much (and I did mean DHCP not DNS).
So - if I disable DHCP on the HomeHub3 IP 192.168.0.1, and set the Airport Extreme IP Address at 192.168.0.2, what do I do with DHCP and NAT settings to have a Main and Guest Wireless Network?
I can easily change the order of things if necessary to be :
BT Modem (192.168.0.1 with DHCP disabled)--->Airport Extreme (192.168.0.2 (set to get DNS from 192.168.0.1) )--->Switch---->Various wired and wireless devices.

  • Trying to create guest network on wap321 and sg200-50p using VLAN

I have a SG200-50P and a WAP321. I am trying to create a guest wireless network using a separate VLAN on the WAP321. I have the production traffic on VLAN 1 and the guest network is on VLAN 100.
The WAP321 is plugged in to port 7 on the switch. It is configured as follows:
Trunk Port, 1UP, 100T, Ingress filter enabled
The DHCP server is on port 22 and is configured as follows:
Trunk Port, 1UP, 100T, Ingress filter enabled
The production wireless client is able to work fine on VLAN 1.
When I try to connect a device using the Guest network, the DHCP request does not appear to ever make it to the DHCP server. If I separate the Production network off of VLAN 1 and change the Untagged VLAN ID to a different VLAN than 1 (Management VLAN ID), the same thing happens to the client when it tries to get an IP address from DHCP.
    What am I missing here?

I have the VLANs configured on the WAP321. VLAN 1 is the Mgmt and general VLAN and the VLAN is configured for the Guest network. I did a Wireshark trace and for some reason the pakets for VLAN 100 (Guest network) on the WAP321 are not getting to the DHCP server. I see them on the WAP321 using the packet capture, but there is not any response to them. I do not see them coming in at the DHCP server.
When I connect to the WAP321 using the production SSID I see the same ackets at the AP and also coming in to the DHCP server. That is why I am so confused. I can't figure out why they do not get to the server. I was wondering if I have something configured wrong on the SG200, but this is new territory for me and I do not know what I am missing. I have taken some screen shots of the SG and WAP config screens in case it might help.

  • I'm trying to recover the network password for my Time Capsule so that I can connect another device (a PC) to it.  I have my Macbook pro set to connect automatically and the password is hidden.  How can I find out what it is.

My issue is that I'm trying to connect a PC to my wireless network run off of a Time capsule/airport router.  My macbook pro connects fine but the network password is hidden and set to autoconnect.  I thought I wrote the password down but when I try to connect the PC laptop and type in the timecapsule network PW is doesn't work.  Trying to verify if the passwird I wrote down is correct but there doesn't seem to be a way to recover this.
Does anyone out there in the community know how to do this? (or do I just have to do a reset on the time capsule

    Reset the TC.

  • Guest Network in Airport Utility

I have just been reconfiguring my wireless network. I noticed it's still broadcasting a guest network, yet when I try to configure it in airport utility I can no longer find the guest network settings. I'm sure they used to be in the Wireless section of the Airport Extreme setup. Does anyone know where have they moved to? Thanks.

It really helps us provide a better and more accurate answer for you.....if we know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC.
We'll take a guess that you are using Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks.
    Open AirPort Utility
    Click on the AirPort Extreme
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
If you are still using the Leopard, Snow Leopard, or PC version of AirPort Utility.....the Guest Network settings appear as their own tab.

  • I have two airport express base stations that I want to configure on two separate sets of speakers in two separate rooms. How do I do this? Airport Utility only seems to scan one express at a time.

I am currently running a PowerPC G5 imac and have a wired broadband modem via ethernet with airport wireless network turned on, on the G5. I have the computer in the bedroom and have an airport express wired into a mixer that connects to my stereo. I have recently bought another airport express base station to connect to a pair of active monitors in the kitchen. When I try to scan these on Airport Utility version 5.42 I am only managing to scan one base unit at a time. I have plugged them in separately and reset them, they both have firmware updates, however the utility will only read one at once. I have read that you can link base stations to the same WDS. I would like to know how to go about doing this if it will only scan one airport express at a time. I have looked it up on the net and not found anything that is a simple fix. Can anyone help? In Apple Support it says that multiple Base Stations can be used. I would like to get both Apple Airport Express units to be able play airtunes separately or at the same time depending where I am in my flat. I do not need different music in each room. I would like to stream music from the computer to multiple rooms in the flat without having to continually unplug and configure the Base Stations. Has anyone come across such a challenge? Any help would be welcome.

How do I configure the AX to connect to the hub's wireless network? It will only scan one base station Airport Express at a time in the Airport Utility. I think what I am trying to do is use the hub as a router to the two AX's. Is there a specific way to set this up?
To set up the AX to join a wireless network as a "Wireless Client," using the AirPort Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    Launch the AirPort Utility.
    Select the AX.
If not already connected to the AX's wireless network, go ahead and switch to it when prompted.
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
Network Name: <type in the network name/SSID of the wireless network that you want to join or select it from the pop-up menu>
Wireless Security: None OR, if you are using security on your wireless network:
Wireless Security: <Select the appropriate level of security for the existing wireless network: WPA/WPA2 Personal | WPA2 Personal>
Password: <enter your wireless network security password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the same security password>
Click Update to write the new settings to the AX.
