On battery MBP won't go to sleep after being inactive for 5 minutes

Okay so in energy saver under system preferences, I have it setup so that the computer should go to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity when running on battery power. However multiple times I have left teh computer on battery only to come back in a few hours and the MBP was still on and not sleeping. I had itunes and safari open, but itunes wasn't playing any music. What does it take for the computer to be "inactive". Do I have to close all of my applications?

I have had similar issues with this. Seems the:
Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
Gets corrupted and must be trashed, reboot reset PRAM and reset your power management settings.
I hope this helps.

  • My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens

My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens. PLEASE HELP

I have a similar (if not the exact same) problem! Here are some more details if they are helpful.
My iPhone 4 died earlier today and will not turn back on. It seemed that the battery died while it was not in use. I attempted to charge it on one charging cord in multiple wall outlets and none worked. Assuming it was a malfunction in the cord, I took my phone home to try charging it there.
Again, I attempted charging it in multiple outlets with a different cord than previously used. None of these seemed to work, though they would flash the Connect to Power screen for a brief moment before returning to a black screen. I assumed that my phone was simply so depleted of battery that it needed a long charge.
I charged it for 30+ minutes without any success, then attempted to charge it through my MacBook instead of through a wall outlet. iTunes did not even recognize that my phone plugged in (and still hasn't). I've attempted charging it for an extended period of time (1+ hour) with no luck. Sometimes when I press the Power button it will flash the Connect to Power screen once more before returning to black.
The Apple logo never appears, nor does any apparent progress on charging. I have attempted holding down the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 10 - 30 second increments. Still no luck. There is no reason anything should be happening with this phone that I can identify.
I have no warranty and just recently replaced my previous phone which had had similar problems before completely crashing. This is a phone new to me that was previously used but in almost new conditions and factory reset by Apple prior to my purchase.
Does this mean that my phone battery is dead?
Is there anything else I can do??

  • MBP won't pick up network after being turned off

    Good morning.
My new MBP is working great and I love it. The only thing that I having some problems with is getting it to remember my network connection when it is turned off and back on.
Here's what I have set up. I have a wireless network in my home with WEP encryption and my SSID is not transmitted.
If I go up to the network (antenna) symbol at the top of the screen, click on it and choose other network, enter my SSID and the WEP password, it connects and stays connected.
If I turn off my MBP and then back on either immediately, later in the day or another day, I have to go through this process again. It doesn't seem to remember by settings for my network. My wife's and my daughter's ibooks both remember the settings. Can't think of what I might be doing wrong here.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

The password for the wireless router is out of sync (corrupted). To remedy the situation you can delete the offending keychain item from the system keychain. You can't view the passwords for items within the system keychain, but you can delete an item so it can be recreated.
The trick is to delete the keychain item in the system keychain for the resource that's giving you the trouble, e.g. Airport network password.
    1. Open the Keychain Access program
    2. Select System keychain.
    3. Select the keychain item you want to delete, and choose Delete from the Edit menu (you will be prompted for an admin password).
    4. Restart
    5. Next time you enter the password to access the wireless network (or resource) and save to keychain, the item will be recreated.

  • Phone won't go to sleep after ios7 update

My phone won't go to sleep after the ios 7 update unless it is on auto lock which I do not want it on.  Can anyone help me with this problem?

could you fix the problem? I have set mine to all the different time restrictions for it to sleep, and it isnt happening. Consequently, my iphone has been overheating at night when I dont manually put it to sleep. By now Im thinking the battery life has been diminished since it is not lasting as long as when it was brand new (iphones 5s)

  • IPhone 6+ won't go to sleep after using Apple Watch App

I noticed that since I own the Apple Watch my iPhone 6+ battery drains very quick. Currently "Home & Lock Screen" and "TuneIn Radio" are using the most battery (although I force-killed all apps). Another thing I noticed is that my iPhone won't go to sleep after the configured 2 minutes. It just stays on sucking on the battery.
After I restart the iPhone everything is back to normal. I believe the problems start the moment I launch the Apple Watch App on the iPhone.
    Will do some tests...

I'm having the same issue even after the 8.1.3 update. It's not from my carrier because I used a different carrier and noticed the same issue.
My short term fix has been putting my phone on airplane mode then off.
If any one knows a solution, please let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Mac screen won't dim, mac won't go to sleep after VNC connection (ARDAgent)

I can't seem to figure this out. Have my mac configured to auto dim and sleep after 10 minutes. When I have used a VNC client to log on to my mac (via iphone or work PC) using different VNC clients the mac won't dim or sleep after 10 minutes.
After hours of trying to find the culprit it seems to be the process ARDAgent. When I force quit this process the mac will dim and sleep as usual. I tried different VNC clients but the problem seems to be on the mac end. Only a force quit or disabling screen sharing from the settings.app seem to help.
Anyone any idea how to fix this?

    Hi,
same problem with my iMac ... I even did a clean install - it didn't help.

  • Lion won't go to sleep after idle timeout

Hello all. Just a quick question: I've just configured "computer sleep" timeout to 5 minutes in Energy Saver preferences but it looks like there is something wrong with it and my MBP is not going to sleep after timeout. On the other hand screen is correctly going to sleep. I've also tried login out and in and leaving system running without any app.
Any clue? Or is that just me missing something?
    Thank you,
    William

Ok I've been researching and dealing with this problem for a few weeks now.  I've read all the forums and tried all the recommended fixes.  I'll list all that I did in the order that I did them.  The sleep problem is fixed for me now.  There are a few things in here that I never saw suggested, especially the last one.  But first of all I have an Intel 27" iMac i7. Purchased new in Sept 2011.  Love the machine, best Mac I've ever owned.  I have 5 of them.  I loaded it from my 2006 Intel 24" iMac, using Migration Assistant while running snow leopard.  Soon after that I loaded Lion, sometime after that I started noticing the lack of sleep issues.  It started out that it wouldn't auto sleep, but I would just sleep the machine using the power button or the Apple menu.  About 3 weeks ago even those would not sleep the machine. Below is my process for hunting down this little bug.  Between each of these a reboot and sleep test was performed.
    1.  Make sure everything is up to date.
    2.  Loaded a piece of freeware called PleaseSleep, worked for a while but then stopped working when the hardware buttons wouldn't work.
    3.  Unplugged all peripherals, turned off wifi
    4.  Turned off all sharing preferences
    5.  Plugged on an old USB mouse and turned off Bluetooth, including settings that allow Bluetooth to wake computer
    6.  Reboot into Safe Mode
    7.  Called apple support and performed a hard reset of the whole system, Shutdown Machine>Unplug From back of machine>Hold power button for 10 seconds>Plug back in>Startup.
    8.  Created a Spare User account in order to test a blank or default set of user preferences.
    9.  Downloaded the 10.7.3 Combo Updater and reinstalled the Lion updates.
    10.  Switched into the Guest user account.  Tested sleep (Success!!!!!!!)  Rebooted back to normal  Tested Sleep (Success!!!!!!)
I'm not willing to say that just #10 was the one and only answer.  At this point I haven't turned on wake from Bluetooth yet.  It will auto sleep and sleep from menu or by pushing power button, but to wake I'm pushing the power button.  I do have all my Bluetooth peripherals back connected.
    Hope that helps someone.

  • Iphone 5 won't charge after being dead for three days.

Iphone 5 won't charge after being dead for three days due to power cable breaking. I got a new cable and it still will not charge. Is my phone broken in any way? What can I do to fix this?

    Hey TalkBack12,
These are the recommended troubleshooting steps I found for when your battery does not charge:
    Battery does not charge
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
via: iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
Since you got a new cable, I would concentrate on trying a cable other than the new one.
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

  • MBP won't go to sleep with lid open with Lion OS

I had this same problem with Snow Leopard and I fixed it somehow, but when I upgraded to Lion my laptop won't go to sleep when my MBP lid is open.  However, it does go to sleep when I close the lid.  When the lid is open, the display goes black, but the light doesn't pulsate.  If my power adapter isn't plugged it, it completely drains the battery.  I've unchecked "wake for network access", turned off bluetooth, and turned off sharing, but it still won't go to sleep when the lid is open.
Anyone having similiar problems?  Anyone fixed this problem?
    Please help.  Thanks!

I have the same problem.  I upgraded to Lion and now when I close the lid it won't sleep.
Also my CPU and Virutal Memory are constantly maxed out and I'm not doing anything different then I was doing before Lion was installed.  In Activity Monitor its showing my System at 40-50% and my user at 40-50% constantly.
Any have any idea how to fix this?

  • MBP Won't wake from sleep but shouldn't BE asleep

    Hi,
I have a couple MBP's giving me trouble. They both are 2011 8,2 MBPs, running 10.9 and have Crucial SSDs installed.  Other similar machines and configurations are fine afaik.
They are set to not sleep when power is connected. The hard drives are set to not sleep.  Displays are set to go dark after about 15 minutes. Screen savers are set to never turn on.
Sometimes, about once every week or two, when the user goes back to his computer after the display has gone dark, nothing seems to wake it up.  The keyboard and mouse and mousepad do nothing.  Pressing the power button does nothing; holding it in for a few seconds and force-rebooting finally snaps it back to life.  I assume it's powered on and in some sort of deep sleep from which it cannot awaken since the power button does not work unless we hold it in.  While in this state remote desktop shows the machines as being "offline," not "sleeping."
I've seen threads about MBPs not waking but since these are set to not sleep in the first place, I'm perplexed.
I've reset the SMC and the PRAM (btw, does pram even do anything anymore? if not, why is it still there?)
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Does this problem still exist in the newer versions of the OWC firmware?
While my SSD is not an OWC, I've been having this issue with my OCZ Vertex 2, also based on the Sandforce chip.
OCZ's most recent firmware (1.32) has fixed the issues related to hibernation (i.e. "safe-sleep") but the drive still has issues waking from timed inactivity sleep.
I wrote about it on their support forums in this thread:
    http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?86538-Hibernation-works-b ut-wake-from-auto-timer-sleep-problem-still-present-in-1.32
One of their support staff (who has been very helpful in ironing out the hibernation problems) replied with:
"I can tell you this new FW build has been fully validated by Apple at their labs, it may be possible your machine while fine with hdd may have an issue with newer ssd...or the line of macbooks with this issue are looking now for an efi update.
I will pass this back to SF but I suggest you also contact Apple and ask if a new EFI update is coming."
While my machine doesn't often sleep due to inactivity, it does happen. I am not a fan of the suggestion to set inactivity sleep to never. While this is a way around the problem, I don't consider it a solution—I would like the security of knowing that if I ever walked away from my machine on battery power for a few hours, I would be able to return to something that hasn't completely drained itself of battery.

  • MBP won't wake from sleep with lid down

This has been happening ever since the installation of 10.8.2. i can put my MBP to sleep and leave the lid open, and it will wake without issue. but, if i put it to sleep and then close the lid, the next morning, it will not wake.
when i open the lid, the white "sleep" light goes away, but the display is still black. my only recourse is to force shut down and restart.
    has anyone else experienced this?

  • MBP Won't Shutdown or Sleep!

    Hi all,
I just got a new MBP a few days ago; done all the updates for it.
However, I noticed last night that it won't shut down! I click "Shut Down", then it does the whole process, then starts up again. It seems as if instead of shutting down it's restarting.
In addition, it doesn't seem to be going to sleep when I close the lid. It will sleep for about 20 seconds, then the apple light and screen will come on when it's closed, for about 10 seconds, then go off again. It just keeps doing this cycle of off for 20 seconds, on for 10, off for 20, on for 10, and so on...
Anyone had any similar experiences, or know how to fix this?
    Thanks

Your install DVD has 10.5 on it. Just do an archive and install. Upgrade only to 10.5.1 via Software Update in the Finder. This method will preserve all your settings and software. I have used it before. A program or two may behave unusually or no problems will be evident. Just install the program again if there any issues. _*BACKUP ALWAYS*_ before you do anything like this!
When completed a folder will be visible in the root directory called "Previous System".
This folder may be deleted after you have tried all installed software and everything is working.
Now my information detailed here may not be 100% accurate, so read this:

I hope this helps. It helped me!

  • MBP won't wake from sleep

Hey everyone, at first I thought the problem I was experiencing was something I was doing wrong or a setting I had changed accidentally. I don't think this is the case. It is actually getting really annoying having to restart my computer from a hard boot just to be able to use it. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? Is there anyone out there having the same issue? Is it Leopard? I have Tiger and never had this problem before.

One would think that the mouse wouldn't matter. Have you tried waking from sleep after using only the trackpad? You may want to consider resetting your PMU: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431?viewlocale=en_US.

  • Display won't sleep after being in suspend once.

When rebooting the computer, the display sleeps after set interval and can manually be put to sleep using shift+ctrl+eject.
However if the computer goes to sleep or I myself close the lid to make it sleep, the display won't sleep again.
The display won't sleep after set interval in power settings and when I press shift+ctrl+eject the keyboard backlit turns off but the screen stays on.
The only way to make it sleep is to close the lid.

I have the first generation aluminium macbook.
Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Won't go to sleep after last update

My PowerMac G5 won't seem to go to sleep AUTOMATICALLY after the last update. I can manually put it to sleep but it won't go automatically, which means it runs all of the time. Any help?

Answering my own question: I went to my Activity Monitor and found that I had a print file hung up and was using about 40% of CPU which kept it running and would not allow it to go to sleep. The reason for the print file being there was because I needed ink and it freaks the system when it cannot complete a print job because of low ink EVEN if you turn the printer off and quit out of EVERYTHING, it's still there, which I could find ONLY in the Activity Monitor status under the drop down list of "Active Processes" it showed the printing status that had been there for like 3 days. Then, just go to the red "quit process" click it and it finally frees up the CPU and goes to sleep when necessary. I hope this helps others who may have this "no sleep" problem.
Aside: This had nothing to do with last update as I first suspected.
