If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select   View ▹ Show Log List   from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

since most recent software update with my macbook pro, contacts, calendar no longer syncs when I connect ipod touch with macbook pro. hate the cloud and want to stay "old fashioned". how can I?

If you have Mavericks the only way to sync those items is via iCloud.

    Hi fullrun-
Once Firefox is open, you should be able to open the Right click context menu on the icon. From there you select 'Options' and then de-select 'Open at Login'. Hope that helps.

  • I have a black screen when turning on my MacBook Pro

Hi, when I turn on my MacBook Pro, I hear the click of the drive whirring and about to start but nothing happens...the screen remains black. The light on the catch is on and the power light is also on but still, the screen remains black. I've tried removing all leads from sound cards etc and turning it back on but no joy. I've tried pressing the power button plus shift as well as the command + shift + P + R but again, nada. Having read some forums, I'm wondering if this may be a graphics card problem and that it needs to be replaced. Hopefully this is a quick fix as I'm making a record at the moment (fortunately, I've got everything saved via time machine...). Anyway, if someone can help, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks, Jon.

  • Can you sync a windows phone calendar with macbook pro outlook calendar

Just wanted to know if and how I may sync my Windows Phone calendar which is a "live exchange" with a calendar either in outlook or with the calendar that came with the software for macbook pro....?

The only things that will transfer from your iPod are purchases.
You need a third-party utility to transfer other things.  Here are two that will do it.

  • When I open my macbook pro it's not automatically connected to the wifi at home

    Hello,
When I open my mac it's just usally is connected to the wifi itself but now I keep getting that I now have to wait 10 seconds or longer after opening my mac to have my mac connected to the wifi ! Has it something to do with Mavericks ?
    Kind regards

Some users have reported solving this problem by resetting the NVRAM (PRAM.)
If you've installed something called "iCleanMemory," or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "free up" memory, remove it according to the developer's instructions after backing up all data. Reboot and test. If there's no change, continue.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Refresh Time:  Continue with MacBook Pro or get the Air?

I have to refresh my work MacBook Pro right now, and I have the option to get the high-end Air as well as the current Pro model, so just wondering if I should go for the air?   I love the idea of the SSD and I'm not currently using any high end graphics programs, but I do run Windows under VMWare, and with the Air's limit of 4G RAM I'm just wondering if it will have the horsepower to run the VM without lots of time watching the spinning beach ball?   We typically go with a 3 Year refresh cycle as well.

I also am running a MacBook Air 13" with VMWare and Windows 7 with no issues (and no beach balls).  I certainly don't feel I've "downgraded" at all in moving from a 15" MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM that was running VMWare and Windows, and certainly Windows boots a *LOT* faster than it does on the MacBook Pro (the SSD).
While the 4GB RAM ceiling is probably my own most signfiicant concern about the Air and the point at which this machine will hit its limit, I suspect the machine will prove more than usable over the next three years.

  • Green Screen when insert dvd on macbook pro

Ok so im trying to instal SL on my mac but each time i get the clean disc and try again error... Btw is a brand new cd that works because i installed on anothe macbook. So after trying o make a copy and failing i inserted a dvd to see if it was the cd (didnt know that the cd wasnt bad at that time) or not. So when the dvd started running all i get is a green screen, tried another movie and the samething. Is my disk drive bad? Can buying lense cleaner fix this or is it beyond fixing?

It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running.
A little history and circumstance is also helpful.

jpmarkques post is a good start point, after folling his directions, you can try detect displays. Also try different rsolution and refresh rates.
Most of the projectors I have used support a 1024X768 res.
Youcan also try a pram reset if it still does not detect.
Leave theproctor connected and powered up, power down the MBP.
Power back up the MBP and hold the following keys before you hear the start up chime:
Option, command, P,R (no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times.
