On changing 10.6 server's admin name...

Unlike Mac workstation admin users's short name, it appears like one could change the Admin name in Snow Leopard server.
Can that be done?
I'd like to rename the server administrator, rather than make a new admin and then delete the old one.

Hi
You can't easily do this for the administrator account on either Server or Client. Not without some consequences. You can change the Long Name easily enough but it's the short name where you'll have problems. What you should do is create another administrator account - one that has the desired name - log in with it and delete the other one, making sure you save the home folder. Assuming you have data you want to keep?
Alternatively add the desired name an alias or another short name for the existing admin account and use that instead. You can do that a number of ways. Probably the easiest is to use the Accounts Preference Pane. Click the lock, authenticate and hold down the Control Key whilst clicking on the User. Select Advanced. The rest is fairly obvious. Another way is to use WorkGroup Manager. Select the Account and add another short name. Yet another way would be to use the command line.
HTH?

  • Must I reinstal Oracle if I change the server's host name

My oracle817 is running on the windows2000 platform and works well.
But when I changed the W2K server's host name, the OracleOraHome81Agent service can't be started. What's wrong with it? Must I reinstall the oracle to comply with the host name?
    Thanks in advance

I do NOT want to change the adminstrator short name or the administrator password. But I'm wondering whether I can change the administrator long name (account name?) by editing the "Name:" field in the administrator's account pane under the Password tab. And if I can change the name is this is a good idea or will I open a pandora's box of problems.
I changed the long name & did not observe any problems.
Permission problems? - will there be ownership problems if the account owner's long name is changed but the short name is not,
Mac OS X uses the short name internally.
Login problems? - I assume the login window will show the usual picture icon for the administrator but with the new long name. And by clicking the icon I'll have no problem logging in as long as I supply the old unchanged password.
    correct
File sharing problems? - If I want to login (Connect) to the administrator's account from another machine then could I use either the new administrator long name or the old unchanged short name to do this?
Have not tried this. You can use the short name.

  • Is there a way to change an existing SCCM 2012 site server intranet FQDN name to lowercase?

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the intranet (not internet) FQDN name of an existing SCCM 2012 site server to all lowercase letters?  You used to be able to do this in SCCM 2007.

I had a problem with WSUS updates not working via SCCM 2012 R2 during an operating system deployment. When examining the c:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log I found the following errors:
WARNING: SendRequest failed with hr = 80072ee2. Proxy List used: <****:8080;****:8080> Bypass List used : <(null)> Auth Schemes used : <>
+ Last proxy send request failed with hr = 0x80072EE2, HTTP status code = 0
WARNING: GetConfig failure, error = 0x80072EE2, soap client error = 5, soap error code = 0, HTTP status code = 200
After a LONG time researching this error I found it was related to the fact we were using a WPAD proxy implementation and apparently this doesnt cope well with uppercase characters for the WSUS server URL. I changed our GPO to be using lowercase lettering
but when examining the WindowsUpdate log again it still showed as being in uppercase. In the end I found that despite what your GPO setting says, this can get over written by the SCCM site server's own published WSUS location. You can check this by entering
    the following command:
    wmic /namespace:"\\root\CCM\SoftwareUpdates\WUAHandler" PATH CCM_UpdateSource
Unfortunatelty in SCCM 2012 there is no GUI way to amend the intranet FQDN used for the WSUS location so I then turned to directly editing the database (which anyone will tell you is not recommended, but by this point i was DESPERATE!).
In the end it solved all my troubles so if anyone finds themselves in this situation, you can fix it by going to the SCCM database and within the table 'WSUSServerLocations', change the WSUSServerName to be in lowercase letters.

  • Changing the Admin name

How can i change the Admin name on my mac mini?

Do you mean the user account that has 'Administer this computer' privileges?
Once created, you can't (easily) alter a users name. ou could just create a new user with admin privileges and delete the old one( saving any data in the old users $HOME (~) first).

  • Changing admin name

my laptop recently needed fixed and they put in a new hardrive but when they reinstall the software etc they put in an admin of my dad since he took it 2 get fixed and i dont want him as my admin. i was going 2 use the reinstall cds 2 get new accounts but they installed os x tiger 2 my laptop and i dont want 2 lose that. no matter wat i do, even changing the admin name 2 the name i want it as, the short name stays the same and then everything goes back 2 the other name. when i try 2 send files that r on my desktop over msn, it doesnt come up my desktop but this other admin name and the files i want 2 send arent coming up as they r on my desktop and not this admin name. can ne1 plz help me change this admin account?

If you have the disks that came with your macbook just reinstall from them. They have tiger on them
If you do this I suggest doing a custom install. This will allow you to get rid of stuff you don't want or need. Extra language files take up around 2 gb. Then there are the 2 demo programs.
This will set you back to when you first got your MacBook and you can set the admin and shortname the way you want.

  • Change the Exchange server name in outlook

    Hello All,
Configured two Exchange server 2010. Both server have Mailbox, CAS and HUB installed. All the user use outlook (Exchange Client). All outlook configured with exchange server host name not mapi name. Now i need to change the exchange server name in outlook.
Is there any procedure to change the Exchange server name for outlook automatically. Please suggest.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Let’s begin with the partition named when RPC endpoint Changes in the following article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/aljackie/archive/2013/11/14/outlook-rpc-end-point-and-pf-the-microsoft-exchange-administrator-has-made-a-change-that-requires-you-quit-and-restart-outlook.aspx
“To add further on the cas array, the Outlook clients with an existing Outlook profile would continue to use the old RPC endpoint rather than the new RPC endpoint (even though Autodiscover detected the change). This is because the old RPC endpoint does not
return an ecWrongServer response to the client. The RPC endpoint accepts the connection; therefore, Outlook ignores the Autodiscover response because it has a working connection.”
In this case, except with recreating a profile, we can move mailboxes to force the Outlook client to do a profile discovery and update the profile based on new information.
For more information about moving mailboxes, please refer to the following article:

  • How do I change my computer name or admin name

When I first got my imac it called itself "firsname lastname's imac"  (with my name, of course) and that apparently was my admin name too .. somehow I managed to change my admin name .. (I think),  and have been using that ever since.  However, whenever it is required, I am presented with the firstname lastname's imac, and a space for the password.. I have always jsut chaged this to my admin name and added the password.
However, I need to get my self back to java 6 and cannot do it because the terminal gives me no option to change from 'firstname lastname's imac' as the admin name .. so nothing I do will allow me to tell it to give me the java 6 back.
Please can someone help with this?

Very easy to do. Just go to: System Preferences › Sharing › Computer Name and change the name.

  • Very odd Admin name change problem

I just got a new MacBook Pro and when I set it up I mistakenly left the user name as my whole name. All my other computers are set to mattb.
So, I used NetInfo manager to go in as root and change all the names over to mattb and it works fine except, mattb is set up as an admin account, but when installing software or updates and it ask to authenticate, it won't allow mattb to work. I'll typically just use root, but that's not what I really want to do.
My guess is that somewhere there is a file that holds the admin names inside it that are allowed (like a sudo config) to do so.
Any ideas? I'll keep exploring, as this is not a major issue, but it would be nice to fix it.

Update: Ok, that didn't take me too long to figure out. Sorry to waste time.
I needed to change the group memberships as well in the NetInfo Manager. Several of the groups had the full name in there still.

Chances are you mis-typed a character in the Wifi password and the devices saved that information.  Now whenever you try to connect the device refers to the wrong password and the Jetpack does not accept your connection.  Tell your devices to forget the wireless connection and start over.
Once you enter the proper WiFi credentials the Jetpack will allow you to connect.

  • Don't know my Admin name and it won't let me change or edit my settings. Help!

I recently changed my Admin setting so that I could use parental controls on my laptop, as my exams are coming up I wanted to block websites that would distract me. It told me I had to restart my laptop so I did, and when I went back to setting it told me I had to unlock it,coming up with the lock key. Its asking me for my admin name and password. I've never paid much attetention to my admin name as it normally comes up automatcally, but nothing I put in is accepted and I know my password's 100% correct. People have said to use the account name and things but that doesn't work either and I've retyped my name about 100000 times. It would be really helpful if anyone knew how to solve this. Thanks

Look in System preferences > Users and Groups [formerly Accounts]...
... all the Accounts should be shown there, along with an Indication of which Accounts are Admin. What will NOT be shown are the passwords that match those Accounts, and there is no way to extract those passwords, as they are never stored "in the clear" (always encrypted).
If you don't remember a password, you will have to use a convoluted process to replace the old password with a new one going forward (and the old password is discarded in the process).

  • How do I change the admin name and password on my iMac?

How do I change the admin name and password on my iMac? It's been about two years since I've done that and I've totally forgotten how to. Your help is appreciated!

Hi Haldane, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Changing the name can be dangerous, use ChangeShortName 10.4 only...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16620
Many way to change the PW then, the Accounts Pref Pane, unlock the Lock, click on change Password.
