On Demand Business Intelligence/Self Service BI tools

Hello,
I wanted to first understand if "On Demand Business Intelligence" and "Self Service BI" mean the same. If not, what is the difference between the two.
In addition, i would like to know the tools that i could use addressing the above two needs. The tool should have features like charting etc (fancy stuff).., It should be easily integrated with web apps and not too costly.
Any thoughts
vinu

Hi Vinu,
The term 'On-demand BI' is open to interpretation, as are most of these 'buzz-words', but it is commonly accepted as meaning 'BI in the cloud' whereby an organisation can
reap the benefits of a BI infrastructure without being hit by the costs commonly associated with on-premise BI infrastructures. The on-demand BI capability is normally delivered via a subscription based model i.e. Infrastructure as a service
(IaaS).
Self-service BI relates to empowering subject matter experts or SMEs to convert the data that is available to them into reports, dashboards, and other actionable information products, whilst
reducing their immediate dependence on the IT department (who are often a bottle neck for ad-hoc, time-sensitive, reporting and analysis requirements).
Reports/dashboards created with self-service BI tools often get converted into corporate-wide BI reports/dashboards once their usefulness has been recognised by senior management. Self-service
BI tools such as Power Pivot, Power View, Power Query, and Power Map can be used with on-premise BI, 'BI in the cloud', or both. Even before Power Pivot, and other Power BI products, Excel could be considered a self-service BI tool since it enables
SMEs to create what are effectively 'decision support systems'.
A good example of 'On-demand BI' would be Power BI in office 365, since it allows businesses to have a BI capability without a large capital expenditure that is normally associated with this.
SAP also provide BI On demand.
Good examples of Self-service BI tools that come to mind are the Power BI offerings (Power Pivot, Power View, Power Query, Power Map), Tableau, and Qlikview.
My answer is certainly not definitive and it would be interesting to read how others in this forum interpret 'On Demand BI' and 'Self-service BI'...
Hope this helps,
Michael

  • Access "Business Intelligence Consumer Services (BICS)" over WebDynpro Java

    Dear all
I have to access the SAP BI from WebDynpro Java.
At the moment I do this over the BI-JAVA-SDK which has unfortunately no integration with the BEx-QueryDesigner.
    Therefore my question:
    1. Is it possible to access the SAP BI over the "Business Intelligence Consumer Services (BICS)"? And if yes, where can I find the corresponding documentation? (I have not found it by myself)
    2. What is your preferred way to get data from the SAP BI in WebDynpro Java?
    Greetings

  • Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3 with E-Business Suite Self Service

    Hi,
I am looking to create some extra JSP pages to add extra functionality to the Oracle E-Business Suite Self Service Pages (10g database). I have been told that it is not possible to do this with JDeveloper 10.1.3 and that we will need to use JDeveloper 9 with patches.
Is this correct? or can I use JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 to develop new pages to add onto Manager and Employee Self Service pages?
    Many Thanks
    Martin

    Thanks Brenden,
If we have several clients with different apps levels/patches applied, does this mean we will need to have a version of JDeveloper for each client?
I have been directed to metalink note 416708.1, and I think I will need to downlaod JDEV9, but when I go to the JDeveloper download site on OTN it only lets me downlaod versions 10.1.3 and 10.1.2, where can I download this from?
    Many Thanks

  • Integrating Oracle Fusion Sales Cloud with Oracle Business Intelligence Cloud Service (BICS)

Ever wondered how to integrate Oracle Fusion Sales Cloud with Business Intelligence Cloud Service (BICS) ?
The blog outlines how to programmatically load Sales Cloud data into BICS, making it readily available to model and display on BICS dashboards.
    http://www.ateam-oracle.com/integrating-oracle-fusion-sales-cloud-with-oracle-business-intelligence-cloud-service-bics/

I wouldn't try installing Oracle VM itself on an EC2 instance, as EC2 is essentially Xen itself. Rather, you should just be able to transport existing Oracle VM images to the EC2 cloud. I think this is what you mean, but your opening paragraph is slightly ambiguous. :)
From a VPN perspective, I'd use OpenVPN as it has clients for all major operating systems (Windows, MacOS X, Linux) that are fairly easy to package and install. Packages for OpenVPN exist in EPEL so it's easy to install on OEL5. You could also consider using a firewall instead of a VPN and only allowing connectivity from specific IP addresses/ranges. This has the benefit of not requiring client software, but it does require a fixed IP address/range on the client-side.

  • Self service procurement and plan driven procurement in classic scenario

    hai friends,
i have configured self service procurement and now i am configuring plan driven procurement in classic scenario.my doubt is suppose  a shopping cart is created and placed in a sourcing application of the professional buyer. And assume he accomplished sourcing activity and created purchase order .Now purchase order is created locally or in the backed.i am using classic scenario ,now can u tell where the purchase order is located? if i want to place that particular purchase order in SRM  it self what will i do? thanks in advance.

    Hi Chandra
before going to select Business scenario (self service, plan driven..etc), you must freeze the technical scenario. Depends upon your technical scenario, your PO will be created .
Where PO is created it is called leading system. It is SAP standard.
If you were selected  Classic- Po created in R/3.- R/3 is a leading system .
if you were select ECS- > PO will created in SRM and Copy also will be created in R/3 system. In EBP only you can edit the PO not in r/3. here SRM is a Leading system.

  • Does the SQL Server 2012 Express Advance include the Business Intelligence tools?

I wondered if those tools are included. If so, what's the difference between the express and full version? I only need this for educational purposes.

    Hello,
SQL Server Express with Advanced Services 2005-2008R2 comes along with BIDS = "Business Intelligence Developer Studio", but only for SSRS = Reporting Services; SSAS & SSIS is not suported in this edition.
For SQL Server 2012 the new SSDT = SQL Server Data Tools are used to create reports, you can get them here as a separate download:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/tools.aspx
And there are also several limitation for SSRS Express, see

  • Error installing SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013

    Hi
I am trying to install SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 and am getting the following error
This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.
    I am running
    Windows 8.1 x64
SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition x64
    Visual Studio 2013 Professional
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Biztalk Developer

Could you please check if Windows Installer service is running and is in automatic startup mode.
The other thing is, if you’re running an x64-based SQL instance (64-bit), make sure to select “New Instance” on the Installation Type page, and NOT “Add features to an existing instance”.

  • Configure Business intelligence site and performance point services

    Hi
i created a new Business intelligence site in my web application and after that how i configure performance point service.
    and  below Configuration is needed?
1-            Configure the secure store service
    2-            Create service application
    3-            Start PerformancePoint Service
4-            Configure Excel Services and SQL Server Reporting Services integration
    adil

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to configure PerformancePoint Services in SharePoint 2010.
In order to use PerformancePoint Services in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, you need to configure a PerformancePoint Services service application. Once you have created the service application, you need to provide data access to the users. This can be done
by using the unattended service account, or by configuring Kerberos delegation.
You can follow the steps as below to configure PerformancePoint Services.
    1. Create and configure a PerformancePoint Services service application:
       • Configure the PerformancePoint Services application pool account
       • Start the PerformancePoint service
       • Create a PerformancePoint Services service application
       • Configure service application associations
    2. Configure the unattended service account for PerformancePoint Services:
       • Configure the secure store service
       • Configure the unattended service account
       • Grant that account access to your data sources

  • SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSDT BI) and SSIS on SQL Server 2012

    This great blog entry titled
SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSDT BI), link below, highlights the lack of support for SSIS projects using SQL Server 2012, VS 2013 and SSDT BI for VS 2013. I see there is a new version
on SSDT BI for VS 2013 (12.0.2430.0, File Name: SSDTBI_x86_ENU.exe, Date Published: 10/27/2014) link below.
Does this version support SSIS projects using SQL Server 2012 using VS 2013 and SSDT BI for VS 2013?

    Hi cjrinpdx,
According to the picture, it seems that we can use SSIS 2012 support is not included in SSDT-BI for VS 2013. And based on the previous versions, SSIS always different from SSRS, SSAS.
SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012 supports versions of SQL Server as follows:
SSAS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
SSRS project can target SQL 2012 or lower
SSIS project can target only SQL 2012

Can any one provide me the link?
    Thanks

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/discoverer/index.html
In this, there are 3 types of download available :
    --Oracle Discoverer Standalone downloads ,
--Oracle Application Server, Discoverer Downloads ,
--Oracle Developer Suite, Discoverer Administration Edition Downloads

  • Question on IDM11g installer and OID 10g DAS self service tool

    Hi,
I have setup the Oracle IDM 11g on windows box(XP). I have explored the same and found that, IDM11g has lot of differences when compared to IDM10g. One of the change that I have observed is the OID DAS Self service tool(Web GUI based).
In OID 10g, inorder to create/manage users/groups, we could use either command-line tool or OID DAS Self Service tool. But OID DAS Self Service tool is not part of the IDM 11g installation. As per the IDM 11g documentation we can still use either command line tool or OID DAS Self Service tool of OID 10g to create/manage users/groups. Does it mean, do we need maintain both IDM 11g and 10g setups, to get the 10g OID DAS tool to work with OID 11g? Or Can we set up IDM 11g and just install OID 10g DAS Self service tool?
IDM10g installer is completely build with 10g database,OID,DAS tool,..components as one bundle. So I think its a over burden to maintain both 11g and 10g setups, to get the 10g DAS tool to work with OID 11g.
Can someone throw somelight to resolve this?
Thanks in adavnce for any help.
    Regards,
    Srinivas M
