On-Demand TV Download Service in the UK
Apple users in the UK are now LOCKED OUT of the On-Demand band wagon which is under way!
Here's part of an email I received from Channel 4, which is along the lines of a similar one to the one I received from BT:
"Unfortunately we cannot say when the 4oD service will be available to users of other platforms, including Mac OS and Linux. The problem is, our content providers (e.g. the production companies who make our shows), insist on using a DRM licensing system.
The DRM (Digital Rights Management) system basically protects the video content from duplication and broadcast outside the UK & ROI. Currently they insist on using Microsoft's DRM, and because of this we can only support Microsoft operating systems.
Linux currently has no such DRM system available and so our content providers will not allow us to support the Linux operating system. Macintosh do have a solution, however the closed DRM system used by Apple is not currently available for licence by third parties and there is no other Mac-compatible DRM solution which meets the protection requirements of our content owners. Unfortunately, we are therefore unable to offer 4oD and other video content to Mac users at this stage."
This is the single most important issue facing UK Mac users at the moment. It seems that Apple have allowed Microsoft to become the de facto standard for all such Video on Demand services. It's bound to impact on European Mac sales. It’s going to be hard to explain to a potential Mac convert that, yes the Mac is great, but you can’t watch content from the BBC, or C4, or BT, or Netflix etc.
It has certainly given me cause to reconsider my Mac allegiance, unless there is a workaround coming in the near future!

Could you please tell me why as a Brit resident in Japan therefore having a billing address that is Japanese is forced to only get service from the Japanese online store? Is there not some way of allowing me to select movies and music to buy and download from other stores. Why do am i forced to try to nread Japanese when I have selected English as my language. You can buy ONLY from the itunes store of your country of residence (As proven by valid billing address of credit card) and ONLY while inside the borders of that country.

The quality of a conversion really depends on the quality of the original PDF file. Please see Will Adobe ExportPDF convert both text and form... | Adobe Community. Do you know what or how the PDF file was created?
You may have better luck by disabling OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community. (Note, however, that is option isn't optimal if the PDF was created from a scanned document; you'd want OCR enabled to convert the image text in the PDF to editable text).

First, you do not have a 3G if you could upgrade it to 6.1.3, because 4.2.1 is the last version that will work on the 3G. So you either have a 3GS or you somehow hacked the phone to install an incompatible version. Assuming you have a 3GS the most likely reason for your problem is you have a gray market phone that was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it. When you upgraded it you removed the hack, so the phone is now locked to its original carrier. -
Unable to download Document using the GET_FILE service
Hi,
I have a custom component-custom service being called from a workflow,which downloads the file to an external folder every time a check in is performed with parameters matching the criteria of the workflow.
Now the issue is every time the file is checked in for the first time,the file which gets downloaded only has the binder information with the status message as:
"StatusMessage=Unable to download 'ABC022257'.Unable to find latest revision for item 'ABC022257'."

For the last 2days I have had the words " No Service" in the top left hand corner of my iPad? This causes intermittent problems when logging into some websites and Downloading some emails? I currently run a wifi network of 1 iPad and 1 desktop computer. The wifi unit is a iinet BOB 2 unit. The other computer works completely fine. The only problem is with this apple iPad? I have rebooted iPad and rebooted BOB 2 wifi unit but this has made on difference to the problem?

We have a free downloadable gaming service that requires flash player in order to operate properly.
I am trying to figure our how can I make users who don't have flash to download it, but I don't want these users to leave my service and start a different download flow in a different website (adobe's) .
I thought about several different options but don't know what would be considered legal or legit:
1. download flash along with my product- this means I will have to add another offer screen to my installation? if so, it will damage my conversion.
2. downloading flash for the user without consent- probably will result with AV alerts
3. open an iframe for users who don't have flash where I'll ask users to download flash--> that still will redirect users to adobe website to complete the process, which will damage my usage...
any comments on the above or additional ideas?

TomUnfortunately, I don't think that our license currently grants the rights that you're looking for. We do allow for the inclusion of original installers on physical media to address the situation of installation where an Internet connection is not guaranteed to be available; however, the Adobe download center serves an important role in the cost-recovery efforts for the continued development, maintenance and distribution of Flash Player, which is a tremendously expensive undertaking. I think it's unlikely that we would agree to allow the inclusion of Flash Player installers in scenarios where the host installer requires an internet connection.
Here is a brief summary of the rights granted by this license:
Licensee is permitted to distribute Adobe Web Players to multiple clients in a closed intranet environment.
Licensee is permitted to distribute Adobe Web Players to multiple end-users by including the Player installers on CDs, DVDs or other physical media.
Usage of Adobe Web Players is only permitted for supported platforms; usage rights on non-PC devices or embedded systems are not granted by this license.
Licensee must use the installers as-is without modification.
Licensees, at their discretion, are entitled to display the Flash Enabled and/or Shockwave logos on products or intranet sites according to the Style Guide.
On the plus side, you don't have to worry about serving your users outdated or vulnerable Flash Player versions, and keeping those embedded copies constantly updated would be a lot of overhead.
Chrome and Internet Explorer on Win8+ always have Flash Player built-in, so those users are generally going to be in good shape (and you shouldn't redirect them to the download anyway, because we'll just give them a message about it already being installed). IE11 eliminates JavaScript support for conditional comments and various other methods for fingerprinting and targeting IE with IE-specific logic, so you'll want to pay attention to that experience, particularly on Win8+ (i.e. your detection logic might need to be tweaked on this config, if it's depending on isMSIE to do the correct thing... there is a lot of busted Flash detection in the world on this target at the moment...)
For NPAPI browsers (Safari, Firefox), users are going to have to close the browser to complete the install process, so I don't think that offering the download in an iframe is going to buy you much, and would probably make it more difficult to complete the installation steps, ultimately doing more harm than good.
In the case of Safari, the installer re-launches Safari at the end of the installation process, and it does so without reopening all of the previously opened tabs. I'm hoping that we won't have to live with that issue much longer, but I want to be transparent about the impact to your user experience. Safari users are going to lose the tab with your site in it during the installation process no matter what.
There's also an install mechanism called Express Install, which you can invoke automatically when you detect that Flash Player is not installed, or is below the version that you require. Off the top of my head, I don't know exactly what happens in every possible install scenario (patch update vs. feature update, by OS and browser). I think some configs require you to restart and others like IE on Windows don't. It's all dictated by browser limitations, which are constantly moving targets.
In short, we recommend that everyone use SWFObject2 for detecting Flash from JavaScript, and they make it pretty easy to invoke upgrades via ExpressInstall.

While downloading a book from iTunes, my internet service was interrupted and i didn't get the entire book. Now when i try to download it, i get the message that i already have downloaded it. It hit the download button in the purchased section, and nada! How can i re-download the book?

Open your iBooks app on your iPad
Select the Store Button at the top
Select Purchased at the bottom
You will see your AppleID on the right at the bottom, then Redeem, then Support
Click on your Apple ID, and when the AppleID window comes up with the options, Sign Out
Then Sign In again and try redownloading your book

When I am connected to the WiFi, my apps cannot be download. Once I had disable the wifi and connect directly to the service provider, the apps will start to download. Please advise what is the problem and solution for my iPhone 5.

I have developed this problem in the last two months. I try to download files, anything from a jpg on hotmail to a service patch. It tells me it's downloading, gives me the time remaining bar and al lthat, says it's going to a temprary folder (or where I have assigned it to go), the bar message dissapears and the file is....NOWHERE. It seems to disappear. It does not appear in a folder I assign it to. There is nothing in my temporary folders. I havebeen messing with this for a couple weeks..I can not figure it out.
help ?try removing norton and start downloads then if its sucessful surely there s a problem with norton

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads

The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above. As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library. -

delete the songs you have just purchased from itunes. Then, go to the store and in quick links click on "Purchased". Then find on the top right "Songs not on this computer" (or something similar) and you will find them for download. It's best to download them one at a time and wait for one to complete before moving on to the next one.
