On export white background is light gray

Hi,
When I export with quicktime conversion in any format the white background becomes slightly gray ... I am trying to embed in a Flash movie that is all white ... consequently I get a light gray box in my Flash movie. If I do a straight export to DV its fine.
Any help would be great.
Thanks!
Bill

Thanks for your ear ... Here it goes
1. I bluescreened an actor
2. Used Color Smoother 4:1:1
3. Used Chroma Keyer
4. Added a white background (PSD format but tried jpg and png) verified its white in Photoshop
5. exported with Quicktime Conversion to FLV varied settings
6. import into Flash and white background is faintly gray
alternative (which works)
5. exported DV version
6. opened in Quicktime Pro
7. exported as FLV
8. Looks fine
I'd definitely prefer skipping that alternative process in the future and love to know why this is the case.
Thanks for any wisdom!
Bill

  • Photo template with white background #ffffff appears gray online, using Photoshop CS5.

Aloha! I am stumped with this and need your help.
Here's what I want to do: Create a seamless white border around my photo on a white background (blog post area is white). I am using Photoshop CS5.
I've tried saving the file as PNG, GIF, and JPG but all appear as gray in the area I want as white.
Photo below is how my image appears on a white background. The area surrounding the photo and behind the word "example" is the gray area that is white #ffffff on PS but appears otherwise when posted online (my blog on Blogger).
The top image is a PNG file, the bottom is a GIF. The GIF is slightly better but still gray. I would like the surrounding area to be pure white so it just blends into the white background (post area).
This is the image I see on PS, it is white in the areas surrounding the center photo, this is how I intend the final image to look like:
I've even chosen my background (while creating a new document) as white for the background color. I've even tried a transparent background but all that did was make it worse and turn the transparent background to black when I post the image online.
Here's a screen capture of my layers (not sure if this info is necessary but I do need help).
If anyone would like to help me with this I'd really appreciate your assistance.  Thank you so much!!

Mylenium, I went back in and took screen shots of what I found according to your article. I finally found color settings.
And as for "view", I couldn't find this part in your article: View--Proof Setup enable Monitor RGB and make sure Proof Colors is enabled."
This is a capture of what I find:
Where do I check off under Proof Setup?
    Thanks again!

  • Pure white background has bluish gray shadows while the histogram is showing completely white. How do I fix this?

While editing photos of subjects on pure white backgrounds, the histogram will show completely red while the image still has bluish gray shadows present.
Is the histogram the issue? If so, how do I recalibrate the histogram so that it picks up these faint shadows?

You probably need to recalibrate your monitor

  • Change default toolbar background from dark gray to light gray?

How do I change the default toolbar background from dark gray to light gray in illustrator CS6?
In the older versions, the toolbar backgrounds were light gray. It easier to read on light gray backgrounds.
THe same question applies to Photoshop CS6. InDesign CS6 has light gray backgrounds.
    thanks

I should have looked a little harder for the answer.
To change the interface background color to another shade of gray in Photoshop go to:

The same method applies to Illustrator.

  • White background appears "gray" after export

Hello, I have created a short video with a white background (title screen) and no matter what compression settings I use to export the file to Quicktime, I always have the same problem -- the white background appears gray in the final video (with the exception of the uncompressed YUV422 setting).
Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks!

Do you think this has anything to do with the default color corrections? Can I disable them altogether?

  • White Background Isn't Really White -- Gray #F8F8F8

I'm having a funny issue with FCE 4.0. I have keyed out a grayscale background and inserted a solid white background underneath. The movie preview window looks perfect; however, when I export the video the white background is no longer white. The gray value is #F8F8F8 or 2.7% grayscale.
I think I've exhausted all the rendering configurations and am now thinking it has to do with the color pallete of the video file. I shot this video using a Canon HF10, then imported into iMovie 08 and exported to Final Cut XML.
The reason why I think it's an import issue is because I have had videos exported from iMovie 08 in the "iPhone" format with correct white levels, but I cannot get the desired white level from FCE. After hours of searching the only lead I have is that the color pallete might not be set to RGB; yet, I see no way to adjust the colors from YUV -> RGB in Final Cut Express (if this is even the case.. I dont know what my imported movie is set as, RGB or YUV).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this is very unusual, then I can try to get a sample Final Cut file for you guys to look at.
Thank you for any help, and please let me know if I can provide more information.

So I've figured out the culprit is an RGB filter on my video.
What I've done is place a solid white rectangle at the top most layer, I still key out the background, but the video has a floating white rectangle now which should have the value #FFFFFF once rendered.
Layer 3 - Floating White Rectangle
Layer 2 - Capturee Video <--- RGB Filter
    Layer 1 - White Background
Even though the RGB filter is only on Layer 2, it seems to affect Layer 1 and 3. I'm very new to Final Cut & Video editing, but I would not imagine a filter applied to a single layer affecting all layers in a project, is this not the case? If it is, anyone have some ideas on how to limit the effects of that item to Layer 2 only? I require the RGB filter to fix some unevenness in my Captured Video prior to Keying the background.

  • Adobe Media Encoder for AE export creates unwanted black background on load in white background

Hi. I have a seamless white website design. I added a white background to my AE file and also exported to Adobe Media Encoder with a white background, but I'm still getting a flash of black when the video loads. I have read discussions of this being a "bug" of the media encoder, but curious if anyone found a workaround. It's distracting to have the back load to black and then change to white, so I appreciate any recommendations. For now, my only idea it to re-record the video after the black flash, using a screen capture app, but this seems tedious and does not produce optimum results. Am I missing something?

    Thanks for your reply!
I tried using Quicktime with PNG and it created a big file (1.18GB for a 1 minute long clip) that doesn't play back nicely in PPro unfortunately. But I then tried rendering the clip using a lossy format, H.264, in AE and it's playing back ok in PPro! I will just do that for the rest of the clips and hope that this is finally resolved. Many thanks for the tip!
Out of curisoty, do you know what might be causing the problem when I use Media Encoder?

  • All emails in Mail print with a light gray background.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion all the emails I print from Mail shows with a light gray background.
    How can I change that?
    The printouts just look dirty.

    Hi Eric,
    Thanks for writing!
I'm on 10.8.5 which is the latest update.
I have an HP Laserjet which is about 8 years old. I tried printing out this page and it showed gray. Also went to webmail and the same thing happened. But it didn't happen in InDesign.
Do you have any idea what's causing this?
    Thank you!

  • Black text on white background has horrible glow after export & viewed on TV.

I'm wondering how to correct a glow that develops around black text after exporting. Black text is on white background of course.
    Export settings:
    H.264
    HDTV 1080p 24 HQ
I've checked of 'use max. render quality' as well as 'render at max. depth'
If someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to try the contrast change.
In Titler ..make the White Fill less than full white. ( Color Picker Fill)  235 to 245 should be fine.
I would not mess with the Black and you should not need to Key line anything with Grey.
But maybe you did not make this text in Titler.
If not..you need to make the changes in original application. eg PhotoShop.
What TV is involved in viewing this?
How does the Text look in the PPRO Monitors?

  • Why is the text GRAY on a WHITE background?

This Community isn't an exact fit, but by process of elimination, it's where I was allowed.  Whether the description of an app is on an iPhone or an iPad, and whether your viewing an app description either in the App Store or in the "What's New" section of an App Update, why is the descriptive text gray?  It is very difficult to read on the white background.  It would be much easier to read if the text were black.  Can I have a witness?

jpg and pdf formats don't support transparency. You need to use a format such as tif, png or psd that does.

I think this is an excellent indicator that not only is Palm reviewing the feedback from the support forums here, but actively reviewing feedback/comments/wishes on other sites as well.
As the original poster copied this (quite solid, IMO) wishlist from Pre Central, the palm support staff acknowledged first seeing it there.

  • How to export pdf with transparent background (or NO white background)?

or, how do i get rid of the white background?
I want to add a watermark behind the pages document AFTER pdf-creation (to be more exact: a light picture behind the text in the center of the page)

    Thanks everyone
the trick is the following: it's a daily rewritten menu card, that's published in 2 directions:
    1. we print it on preprinted cardbords (therefore we need no background in the pages document) (30 times every day)
    2. we load it on the webserver, to make it available on the website and to send it out via newsletter. (technically i have a automator printplugin created which does the job of inserting the same backgroundimage as on the preprinted cards and then uploading it to the server)
Well, I guess it does not look to shabby
    any ideas?
