On first startup IdeaPad Yoga 11S screen goes black

Question

When ever I startup the laptop the screen goes black and then I have to do a hard reset to turn it on again. Is there any solution? It's new and I don't want to ruin it.

Hi Aftab1alam,
Do you get anything displayed on screen when it tries to boot up?
I had the following:
1. Black screen - the outcome of this was they had to repllace the motherboard so it needed to be sent back to Novo (dpd will pick up and it gets sent to Germany - usually back within a week)
2. The screen kept spinning with the Lenovo initial startup - it remained like that so it was essentially stuck. I played around with it a bit and found the following:
- The keyboard was not working so I needed to plug in an external usb keyboard
- Once I was able to use keys I could get to the "Novo menu" - which is Novo's equivalent/layer on top of the the DOS BIOS.
- I fiddled about with that and called Novo tech support who talked me through a number of things to try. None worked for me but worth you calling them and trying these.
- Eventiually they arranges for it to be sent back.
Incidentally the 2nd replacement got the same issue - I think it was after it did a windows update to itself so I ended up ringing them back. In the end I took the 3rd broken machine back to PCWorld (Novo will give you a replacement code to give the vendor) and they gave me a replacement in the shop. This one has been working fine since then (other than a few minor issues).
FYI re your question - DOS BIOS is the underlying hardware config before windows boots up - it should be able to tell you if there are hardware issues. Unfortunately Lenovo replace this with their own bios layer - which doesn't really help or show you anything.
