On G71-340US: very low volume when using DVD player, but OK when using Windows Media Player.
Just purchased new laptop G71-340US. Volume (at full tilt) is decent when using Windows Media Player, but when using DVD player, volume is so low I can't really hear volume on a movie unless room is completely quiet, and I am right in front of laptop. Any suggestions, or is it really this bad?
I don't have the answer, but I certainly agree. The G71-340us is severly under powered in the audio department. You would think with the extra room in the 17in. chasis they could have put a sound system with a lot more power. Other than that it's a great machine.

Title names when playing a DVD in Windows Media Player
I've created a DVD using DVDSP. About 30 videos all broken down by subject and given a good title. About 5 sections, 6-8 videos per section - a lot of authoring and all the tracks have titles.
My client loves the menu setup but is complaining that when the DVD gets put into a PC, Windows Media Player launches and there's a bar on the right that just says "Title 1" "Title 2", etc....
Of course on a commercially available DVD, the chapter titles show up correctly.
I've tried to explain that my understanding is that WMP queries an internet database for this information and there's no way for my DVDs to get cataloged in this database.
Now they claim they've found a production company that can fix their problem and they're asking for the raw video files. I think they're going to see the same results.
So... Am I wrong? Is there a way for me to author these DVDs so the chapter titles can be given custom names that show up correctly in windows media player?WestView Digital wrote:

I did NOT know that. So in order to use that stupid player for DVDs you must be online? That's absurd but about what I'd expect from Microsoft. Thanks for including the links to the online database, that wil help others who face this same issue.
As for your competition, be professional, sell them the files and wish them good luck. But be sure you are adequately compensated for the work you have done up to this point and for the services you wil provide the other guys such as dubbing or copying the raw media files. Do not forward any work you have performed without being compensated and be sure they understand they may not use your menu designs or concepts without paying for them.

Hi!!
(Excuse me for my bad english language.)
The songs are being exported with very low volume. I mixed all tracks to best use. I tried all the quality options, including no compression. I also tried with and without Normalize. What else can I try? What could be happening? Tks!Hi stosfot,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. This article has some information on adjusting the master volume of a track that may help:

Hello there
I have a problem with my windows media player while using server and client connection by using TCP/IP connection. So when I play a video using Windows Media Player in LabVIew there isn't any sound come out but when I'm playing a video by a Windows Media Player only the sound will come out. Can you help me solve this problem?
I also upload the vi as the reference.
The username for the client is ihsanhaikalz and the password is ganteng
Thanks

Server Remote.vi 1433 KBHi ican,
I was looking at your VI's but I cannot seem to pinpoint exactly where you are using Windows Media Player. In order to more quickly assist you, could you please recreate this issue more concisely in a smaller set of VIs. Also, were you able to get sound when you did not use the TCP/IP connection and simply played the files in LabVIEW?
I noticed in a few places that you were using the Play Sound File.VI from the Graphics and Sounds palette. Is that what you are refering to? I noticed there that the file path that you have designated for the song is simply the song title. Instead, this should be a path to where the song is located on your computer.
Also, if you are planning on using Windows Media Player, have you considered using the ActiveX commands for Windows Media Player? Here are a few examples if you are unfamiliar with this functionality.
Example 1 and Example 2.
I hope this helps!

CS4 using a Mac and want to play video using windows media player
Hi I am having issues with file types to play video back using Windows media player.
I am producing video using Premiere CS4 on a Mac and I need to know what format to use to have the files play in windows media player as .mp4 is not compatable with wm player.
ThanksI have Windows Media Player installed on my PC workstation and I do remember installing a codec so that MP4 files could play in WMPlayer 11 on Windows Vista 64-bit (should work on 32-bit also)
look near the bottom section of this link for further information. The codec is called DirectShow
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992#34
Otherwise if you're posting videos on a webpage for example in the mp4 format use the Quicktime html wrapper so that people using Mac's can also view your videos that are encoded for PC's. If you encode in wmv format (Windows Media Video) then provide a link to the "Flip4Mac" application that can use Quicktime on the Mac to play Windows Media Files. I think you can find it on www.mactopia.com . -

Hi. I Have a Pavilion dv9000 with Vista Ultimate 64. It has always had very low volume and I find I generally have to have the volume up into the 70's 80's as well as the onscreen media player slider almost full - which then gets all distorted - and then have to turn it down again when not using the player as the computer error beeps come screaming out., Ive checked the settings on speakers to make sure all are the same & balanced and also have updated any codecs as needed. Is there a sound lever setting elsewhere?
cheersThanks for the reply and peeling my post off Mike, sorry I didn't start my own initially.
Well @ 1333Mhz I was using the rated timings 9-9-9-24 (as per Corsair) but it wasn't very stable as I said.
I have since changed the FSB/RAM ratio to get 1066Mhz and it seemed much happier. (@1.5v) It would be nice to run the RAM at it's rated setting but my OC skills aren't that extensive. I imagine it would need alot of tweeking? Or could I have just relaxed the timings a bit?
Would removing the Switch Cards make any difference?
Thanks in advance. -
My call having very low volume to the caller
my call having very low volume to the lisner or caller . how to increase form my iphone.
Hey there pawan922,
It sounds like you are being told that your voice is not clear but they sound fine to you. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve the issue here, named:
iPhone: Microphone issues
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183
Follow these steps, testing after each.
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (refer to the pictures below to find your device's microphones). Check for these:
Dirt or debris
A screen protector or case
When you're holding your phone next to your ear, make sure you don't block the microphone with your fingers or shoulder and make sure to speak into the microphone
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.
For further assistance, contact Apple Support.
If the issue persists and you need to make a call, try using headphones with an integrated microphone.

Bottom microphone
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Very low volume on headphone jack on MBP 13" but no red light
Hi I am looking for solution for my problem where in I am currently getting very low volume on headphone jack. There was no problem before, everything used to work perfectly fine.
I couldn't find comprehensive solution for this. Could anyone please point me to the correct thread if solution is already available.
my details:
MBP 13" Snow leopard, 10.6.5 - First Gen. Unibody MAC.
problem: Very low volume when headphone is connected.
Things: I have tried:
1. Headphone is fine. Works correctly on windows PC and on my iphone.
2. Tried system pref. volume is max.
3. Upon connecting headphone to MBP it is detected as headphone.
4. Tried Audio MIDI setup, settings seem to be correct 44.1KHz 2ch-16 bit
5. There is NO red light from headphone jack.
6 Tried poking toothpicks in to audio out but didn't help.
7 Tried creating new temp. admin user account but headphone low volume remains.
8. Tried safe boot - no joy.
9 Safe boot was followed by normal boot-> Ran Disk Util tried repair permission. No luck.
10. Also followed steps to clear PR RAM etc. - problem remains.
11. Heard about logic board replacement but don't want to go by that route.
Can anyone point me to correct thread or provide the solution..
help is much appreciated.
Thanks...I have the exact same problem. i have a macbook pro 13in (mid 2009) with extremely low volume coming from headphone jack. i brought the computer into my local apple store today and they diagnosed my problem as being the result of a faulty logic board. my laptop is out of warranty so they have to send it to the apple repair depot for 3-5 days. the charge is a flat $280 (tax not included). the solution seems extreme though and i hope i don't get any "kernel panicking" with a new board. i will update... also there is no accidental damge to my laptop whatsoever. the problem arrose 2-3wks ago

I've done a search but can't seem to find any info re the sound volume on my bw G3. The sound out of both the front, built in speaker, and through the headphones, is very low volume output, almost but not quite muted. I've searched and adjusted the controls but to no avail. Could this be a hardware problem or software? There 'is' some movement when I adjust the volume slider but it takes the level from what would normally be 2 of 10 down to nothing. That is, there is no way for me to get the sound to levels that within normal limits. It's like the output is being blocked somehow but is still leaking through enough for me to make out the particular sound (song in this case) that I'm listening to.
Any help would be appreciated. It might not be worth puttiing any money into and I'd like to at least try.
MichaelMichael,
Sounds like you are ahead of the game on testing with headphones. External speakers would not make much of a difference without an amplifier.
"(is there another place to check sound output?)" If you had an AV output you could test sound out of that card. Finding a card might be cheaper than any repair bill and give you a definative answer on if their is a system software level problem.

These articles do not all address your model but give some perspective on software and hardware issues, including how just reseting the PRAM on some machines is the official Apple response.
If you go to the advanced search link at the top of the page and make a query for "no sound" you should get a response similar to this link:

HP Pavilion g6-1d98dx has very low volume.
Hi there,
I have an
HP Pavilion g6-1d98dx with W7 Ultimate that suddenly has very low volume. I have tried rolling back the drivers, uninstalling them and the device itself.
I also tried that loudness equalization option, but it only makes it worse. It used to sound very good, but now it's horrible. Now I have to wear a headset just to listen to music! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi @Kindakool
I understand that you are having trouble with the sound from your built in speakers. I am happy to help you with this.
You can start with the following page, even though you are getting some sound.
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
Or you can check the connections on your internal speakers for that you will need:
HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
From Microsoft's support website:
Automatically diagnose and fix Windows audio playback problems
If those do not work it is possible that there is a physical problem with the speakers themselves. At that point I would call in to our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

THANKS!Hi, sorry to hear that you are having issues with your new notebook audio. I will be happy to help with the issue but first I will need to know the exact model number of the computer as well as the operating system you are using. To find the model number, please look on the bottom of the computer. You will see a white sticker. Here is where you will find the model number. If by chance you do not see the model number, please remove the battery and you will find it. I look forward to hearing from you.

Very Low Volume Output - Audigy 2
Hi,
All of a sudden my Audigy 2 ZS card has very low volume. Tried different speakers, tried uninstall/reinstall, tried clean boot of XP, no luck. Also, there is faint crackling when I turn volume up but I believe it's only because speakers are fully cranked and there is hardly any sound coming out.
Any help would be appreciated. ThanksI didn't have any place to test the card but I did replace it with another one. Unfortunately, the other card gives the same result - very low volume. I suppose this means there is a problem with the motherboard. Do you agree? Is there any other test I could do that might pinpoint the problem area?
Yes, I received a "reply" from Creative. It was a form email that said they received my message and would respond (usually) within 24 hours. That is the only message I received from them. -
Hi
I have been using my new MXL USB 007 stereo microphone on Windows 7 Professional with clear quality audio for a while now.
On Monday 26 November 2012, I reformatted my PC laptop hard disk and installed Windows 8 Pro.
Now, the quality of the recorded audio is heavily subdued without the clear clarity I used to get. In other words, I am getting very low volume, even though the recording level is on 85 (I tried with 90 as well. 100 has way too much distortion).
As a test, I connected the same microphone to another one of my machines that still has Windows 7 Professional, and the audio result was excellent. So, it’s not the actual microphone.
I have checked the Windows 8 sound settings. It says the device is working properly. There is only the Levels to adjust and under the Advanced tab, I have 2 channel, 16 bit, 48 kHz, DVD quality - same as before on Windows 7.
Is there some setting or something else I should do on Windows 8 to get decent sound again?
Any ideas? Please help ....
Thank you.I have reinstalled Windows 8 Pro twice, both times formatting the disk.
The first time, I connected the microphone immediately after the OS install.
The second time, I connected the microphone only after all Windows Updates and device drivers were applied.
In both cases, the problem of very low input volume remains.
I searched online, and found somebody else has the same problem with a different vendors microphone.
I quote from:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/1251-73-microphone-input
"I use Cakewalk for sound processing and have discovered that my Samson CO1U
microphone has almost no input strength under Windows 8. I have tweaked about everything I can imagine. Any ideas? "
On my machine, I looked at Device Manager and found:
From the above screenshot, it seems like the USBAUDIO.sys file is one of several being used.
Unless I am mistaken, all of the sound device driver files for the USB Audio CODEC are Microsoft files.
If so, can we please get a Windows Update on this issue?
Awaiting in anticipation ....
