"On Hold" on sm50

Gurus:
I see some jobs have a status "On Hold" at sm50.
The platform is AIX/DB2-8.
-- what does it mean, i.e. hold for what?
-- any action needed and if so, what to do?
Thanks a lot!

If your backgorund job is for external server or sending data out or waiting to repsonse then it will show as on hold. You should be able to view the WP trace.

  • MRP background job - on hold - ARFC

    hi
Off late, the MRP background job scheduled weekly is taking a very long time. more than 4 hours and when i check the status in SM50, it shows the job shows status  ON HOLD and reason as ARFC.
In SM66 , i can see the job is STOPPED.
But after a long interval it gets running and the job gets completed after several hours.
Can anyone please help me on this.
    Thanks and Regards
    Joe

    Hi Joe,
Since this job is a weekly job. It's might be the case that the job is processing lot of data. Can you check the job logs in the SM37, exactly what is the error message you are getting.
The probable solution can be restricting the selection to finish the job in very less time.
    Rgds,
    Ashish

    Hi
The procedure you wrote i.e. SM50>Process>Trace>Dispatcher>Trace file displays the dev_disp file that would give the trace for the displatcher file.
dev_w0 should be the trace for work process 00(first work process) that would be showing you a RED status for an error in it or because the threshold parameter for max run time for a work process would have exceeded.
however the trace file holds the history for all the jobs/processes that ran in that work process. Some RED lines in the trace may indicate errors that may have occured previously in the WP.
Every job executed in a WP has its logs maintained in the trace file. You can see the timestamps for each of them in the file. Check for the time you were logged in and see if the errors actually occured for your process.
I hope this helps.Feel free to revert back for any queries.
    Regards
    Chen

  • Workprocess in hold

    Hi guys,
In R/3 systems(4.7 with SQL) when i saw workprocess in SM50 which are in PRIV mode with Hold status but i saw same workprocesses in SM66 they are same PRIV mode but with stopped status.
why same workprocesses are showing different status in different SM50 and SM66.
any body know reason please let me know...
    regards,
    Pulla Rao

stoped/hold statuses means process is waiting for samething
(for example OS), there is a good explanation on each state in SM50/SM66, by pressing F1 on the process mode,
The status of hold in SM66 is equivalence to status stopped in SM50.
please notice that user that got to PRIV mode,
means he took quite a lot of memory,
the the WAS can not release the memory (by doing roll-out),
untill the user would leave the transaction
that's the reason why users, who get to PRIV, gets the meesage "please leave transaction before taking a brake"

  • WPs are in On Hold RFC status

    Dear all,
In SM50, very often I see the WPs in On Hold status and RFC as reason. For DIA WPs, the status changes after I refresh. But for SPO WPs, that status stayslonger.
a.) May I know what is this On Hold RFC status about ?
b.) Will this pose performance problem to the system ?
c.) Is there anything I can check or change to improve it ?
Your comment and advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kent

    Dear Kent,
    1. In general ON Hold status of the workprocess is that during processing if RFC calls or waits for another RFC  or some process is supposed to get complete, those cases staus will be in on hold. This is only an example, there can be many reason for on hold status of the Wp.More details can be obtained in Wp trace files.
2.Sometimes it leads to performace problems, especially if there are more wp's are in on hold status results in the bottlenecks of the availablity of wp's, as a result transactions that were running or if new users got logged in are effected.
3.Check the trace files of the work process in SM50 and also from where these RFC's got initiated. If possible check dev_rfc<wp no> files in work directory for more details.
    Best Regards,
    Shyam Dontamsetty

  • Problem in SM50 Check

    Dear gurus,
i created an interactive ALV report for accounting document entries with line items... while i checked this report in SM50 i observed that even after the ALV grid is displayed the work process is not released but it goes on hold and shows PRIV in reason Tab... please guide me is it a BASIS problem or ABAP problem?
    Regards,
    Luthra, Deep

    Hi,
I would suggest you check with basis on this.

  • Process Monito: Meaning of Status HOLD and Reasn PRIVATE

    Hi all,
Sometimes our development systems tends to react extremely slowly.
If I can get the process overiew in SM50, I see that all Dialog processes are uses and we have a whole bunch of users with Status HOLD and Reasn PRIVATE - no DEBUG, no wait RFC, no DB access active.
Nobody can explain what that means and what the reason may be.
    TNX for any hints.
    Regards
    Clemens

Yes, it is all in the help.
PRIV means that the user's memory limit has been exceeded for this work process and that the process will be locked until enough memory is available on the system.
Some companies just don't have the money to buy some memory - they prefer to pay consultants waiting time

  • All back ground process on hold

    Dear Team,
I am using ECC 6.0 with Oracle 10. When I am checking all work process via SM50. All Backgroung process show in Hold position , Reasion RFC  , Report SAPLSSXP.
I have check sm37 no these jobs is active.
    thats the reasion. ?
    how i solve the problem
    jagdish

    Hi,
How many background WPs are there?
Sometimes, when all BTCs are running and system needs more BTC to finish a job, other BTCs could be hold for an available BTC.
Please check it out, and try to increase the number of BTC and retry.

  • Debugging fails to be activated in SM50 with endless loop

    Hi Experts,
I want to debug a inbounding mail processing and configure the handling class in SO50. Then I set a endless loop in the class method.
Then when a new mail coming, Sever will hold a process of my class method. But when I go to sm50 program->debugging. I will get a popup window with message"Debugging program?" Then I press Yes. Then, no thing will happen. No debug screen show up.
Is there any requirement to be set before we use the debug in SM50?
Or for some cases just like mine, the user of SAPCONNECT should have some authorizty?

    Hi,
Once i faced this problem and i did not have authorization to debug.
As you have mentioned, I dont think so you have authorization to debug. Please run T code SU53 and check.
If not take help of your Basis team and get it resolved
    Shiva

  • Workprocess goes in hold

    Hello Forum,
I am running a job in background. i have to releas it from SM37.
Sometimes, when a brarchive start parallel, the workprocess of this job goes to status hold and does nothing more. The Error
occurs always at the same time- when brarchive running. Otherwise the Interfacejob runs without errors (several times a day).
You have an explanation for this?
    Thank a lot on advance.
    Best reggards
    Lutz

Did you look into the work process trace?  is there any error messages?  In SM50, double click it, what does it say it's doing?
Are all of your work processes busy?  Are there at least 1 available of each type (BTC, DIA, UPD, UP2)?

  • Support Pack PI_BASIS 'on hold'

    Hi All,
I am trying to apply PI_BASIS 2006_1_700 to my Solution Manager 4.0.
I applied the delta ackage thru SAINT.
I have Background WP 'RFC on Hold' state error ( SM 50 ) repeatedly.
Details of the Hold WPs shows the line " waiting for " RFC ..for the Report SAPLSTPA ..
    SM66 says CPIC STOPPED.
And ST22 shows no dump, SM21 shows no Err Msg.
    There are also 2 Table Locks in SM12 ( PAT01 , CWBNTHEAD )
The Conversation Id shown in SM50 Details of WP ( which is on Hold State ) has no err in smgw.
Since it is at DDIC ACTIVATION PHASE, I can't reset the queue through the SPAM/SAINT.
Now I'm stuck in the DDIC activation phase.
When I go to sm37 I see the job
OCS QUEUE IMPORT Active with Duration 100,725 secs.
I had restarted the import but still it is showing the same status.
It is not writing any logs (SLOG /ALOG)
This has been the status for the past 2 days now !
Any Ideas? Shud I reset the queue? If yes, then how?

    Hi,
First step you need to take care is that if system is in production dont reset queue.Contact SAP because at this time your system is inconsistent and only SAP will help you.
But if you still want to reset queue then follow this link [CLICK HERE|http://*************************/2008/11/troubleshoot-with-spam-at-your-own-risk.html]
But do it at you own risk.SAP will never help you if you ask them after  doing all  these activities.
    Hope it will help you...

  • BGD and Dia Processes in Hold State due to RFC Error During SPS App

    Hi GURUS,
I am having this WPs in Hold state error ( SM 50 ) repeatedly while applying SolMan Patches.
At each Queue Definition , the Bkground / Dialog Process ( SM50 ) shows the Status as On Hold and the reason
is RFC in Err column. Although the RFC Conn failes, each time it shows that x, y, z program is not registered program.
And ST22 shows no dump, SM21 shows no Err Msg, tp log says RFC Function TRINT_PROGRESS_INDICATOR error :
    SYSTEM_FAILURE.
    There were also 2 Table Locks in SM12 ( PAT01 , CWBNTHEAD )
The Conversation Id shown in SM50 Details of WP ( which is on Hold State ) has no err in smgw.
Details of the Hold WPs shows the line " waiting for "  RFC ..for the Report SAPLSTPA ..
Since it is beyond DDIC ACTIVATION PHASE,  I can't reset the QUEUE. through the SPAM.
Can anyone Pl. Give Inputs :
Which TCode + how to  reset this ?
Any rectification of the Error as RFC Connection Does Fails due to Wrong Transaction Program  Registered but, each
time it is showing different Transaction Program as not registered !!
Any / ALL Input is Appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    - Ishan

SAP Suggested to implement the Note 1075828 and it was solved.

  • RFC On Hold

    Hi,
I alway experience a problem where by in sm50, under the backgroud process, the status for client export is sometime On Hold (RFC) for a very long time that i had to manually terminate it. However, something the export is ok. When i double click and enter into the backgroud process, under the wating f. , it show gateway hostname since xxx. What happen ?
    Regards
    Lauran

    Hello Osman,
As I understood from your query is that there is a background process which is in status ON HOLD with reason RFC because of this the system is not available. Now you want to know whether the system was working fine before this work process starts. Am I right ?
If so you can go to the details of the process and check when it was started and all details.
To terminate the work process, select the work process and goto process menu  ---> Select "Cancel without core"

  • Problem push and hold on a Surface Pro tablet's touch screen

    Hi,
I tried posting this before, but I can't find my origional post so I hope I'm not spamming accidentally.
I have a problem with my program on a Windows 8.1 Surface Pro tablet. I programmed a button to be 'push-and-hold', but when I touch the tablet nothing happens until I release my finger. This briefly controls the button. When I connect a USB mouse to the tablet, it responds normally; when I press the left mouse button: the button in my program goes down until I release the mouse button. I tried about every setting in the Touch section of the Windows control panel without any succes.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
