On install, itunes to select only certain files

I only want itunes to include certain types of files (M4A and NRG) when i install itunes. How can I do this?

Well, I probably should have searched the extensions first. I did find this one, which will be very helpful in some cases: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1093470#

  • I do not want all of the playlists in iTunes to be synced to my iPhone. With iCloud I do not seem to have a choice. How do I select only certain playlists for my iPone?

I have many songs and playlists in my iTunes account.  I do not want all of them synced to my iPhone 5S, but that has happened via iCloud, and it has caused a storage problem on my phone.  How do I select only certain playlists to be synced to my iPhone?

You need to start over with Music. On the iPhone Music screen uncheck sync music. Also, on the Summary screen uncheck "Manually manage music and videos", then sync and it should clear off your phone.
Next, choose the music you want to sync. If you want to fit more on check "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC". This will reduce quality slightly, but it won't be noticable unless you are using $300 headphones.

  • How do I select only certain songs from itunes library to upload to my iphone?

Trying to free up some memory and my whole itunes library is loaded on my phone.  Is there a way to select only certain songs to sync with my phone?

When your iphone is connected to iTunes, go to the phone section, go to options and then select "Sync only checked songs and videos".  Then go to yotur iTunes music library, and check only the songs you want.  If you are viewing the library in the "songs" option the check boxes are next to the songs.  If you are viewing from the "album" view, you have to right-click each song and select check.

  • How to restore only certain files

i did an erase and install (hopefully to remove a problem that we and the apple store genius have ben unable to find. . i did not yet use time machine to migrate all files to the macbook because i want to migrate only certain files.  how do i migrate only some files selectively, and not all of them as would happen in doing a complete restore ?

Yes. You'll need to use the TM "Star Wars" interface to locate the files and restore.
Start by reading Pondini's TM articles here; http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html

  • After back up, can i choose only certain files to restore?

I am currently backing up my entire Macbook so i can reinstall Leopard. I was wondering after the reinstallation of Leopard if i can be able to choose only certain files like my music, pictures, ETC? Because i would like to start to use the root account.

As Duane has mentioned, you will be able to access Time Machine backups from your computer by setting Time Machine up again and choosing your Time Capsule as the backup disk. You will need your TC disk password as well.
I think I recall a user who said he could not access his backups after reinstalling the operating system on his machine. He couldn't remember the TC password and...he could not go back into KeyChain Access to try to retrieve his password because the application had been reinstalled, erasing the old stored data. Keep your TC password in a safe place as you will not be able to access the TC without it.
In the event that you are having difficulty with restoring Time Machine backups, you also have the ability to use Migration Assistant to move files back from the TC to your computer. You will need your TC password to do this as well. You won't be able to selectively choose just the files you want to move, but you can always go back into your hard drive and delete the files that you don't want or need.

Very many thanks to you, Putaro!  Your answer provided the solution. It was a buggy plug-in that turned out to be the culprit.
You're off the hook, Apple, and my apologies for stating that you let a dog run loose. You skated by this time, Apple. But I'm watching you.
But again, Putaro's reference to the plugins I had installed over the years turned out to illuminate the problem. I have several plugins in my iTunes plugins folder, pretty much all designed to add more visualizer functionality. I removed all of them, and ALL of the problems I noted in my post went away, with full iTunes functionality restored.
I began adding the plugins back to hopefully single out the culprit. Among the ones I had been using included fielder, G-Force, Timestrech, volcanokit, QuartzComposer, and Jax. I hadn't used any of them in a while - probably at least a verison or more back in iTunes updates, but iTunes continued to work with all of them installed. Currently, only QuartzComposer continues to work in iTunes 10.4. The rest no longer even show up as visualizer opitons, with one exception. Jax does show up, but does not work. AND THE PRESENCE OF JAX IS WHAT KILLED MY ITUNES.
I looked into it and went back to the developer, and it appears that they discontinued developing Jax some time ago - evidently, it was buggy and crash prone. I remember after buying it, having problems with it - having never worked to its touted potential, but I didn't pursue it, and never uninstalled it. Leaving it in there caused all iTunes functionality to cease with the iTunes 10.4 update.
If you've got Jax installed, consider removing it before updating to iTunes 10.4.
My iTunes is now working right as rain, thanks again to Putaro!

  • Premiere Pro CS5 crashing when exporting (only certain file types)

    Hi
I have found that when I try and export media in Premiere Pro CS5, it often crashes during the export. It says
It's only certain file types. For instance, Vimeo HD seems okay but Vimeo SD always crashes mid-export. MPEG is okay too, but MPEG2-DVD always crashes.
Sometimes it says this: "Error Compiling Movie - Unknown Error" but doesn't throw me out of Premiere altogether.
Other times it crashes altogether and Windows gives me this error message: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 258.96 stopped responding and has successfully recovered". Premiere Pro then stops responding so I have to re-open it and start exporting again.
I have checked there are no gaps in my timeline and I have rendered the whole work area. Besides, I doubt it's anything that I'm doing wrong with the project itself because it's exporting fine in some formats.
I am also experiencing random crashes when editing too. Not that often, but occasionally it throws me out - and twice it has made the whole screen go crazy, with weird dotting across the screen (it's scary, it looks like the monitor itself has broken!).
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Nick
PS I have a pretty decent new PC - Dell Studio XPS, 8GB, 2x1TB drives, etc. Premiere itself is working great, except for these crashes.

Some drivers do not work well in some systems... so go to nVidia and try a different (usually newer) driver for your card
These notes are for Encore, but they MAY also work in Premiere

  • Can't install iTunes. "Error writing to file..."

I'm trying to install iTunes on my PC and it keeps getting stuck on the "copying new files" part. Then I get an error message saying: "error writing to file....verify that you have access to that directory." Any thoughts on what I can do? Thanks!!

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • How can I tell iTunes to NOT convert certain files from wma format?

I just got an iPod classic, and downloaded iTunes and it automatically started adding all my music. I have almost 5000 songs that are in wma format, and it started converting them all. Then after it got almost 2000 songs finished, it just stopped. For no reason. So I tried to continue it, and apparently there is no way to just continue where it stopped. It started over at the beginning and is now re-converting all the files it already converted.
It took over 24 hours to convert those first 2000 files. It seems completely unnecessary that it should have to re-convert them all over again.
Is there any way that I can tell it NOT to convert those specific files? I figured that you should be able to right-click the file and say "DO NOT CONVERT" or something along those lines, but that is not an option.
The only other way I've been able to figure out that I could do this is to manually add only the files that it didn't convert last time. But that is over 3000 files, and they are not in the same order on my hard drive that they are on in iTunes so I would never be able to figure out what files were done and what files were not done.
There HAS to be a way to just highlight certain files and tell iTunes NOT to convert them. Hasn't there?
Someone please help me. This is really irritating, and I do not feel like waiting for another 3 days for this to finish. I have other things I need to do on my computer, and it seems that while iTunes is converting, it is making everything else very slow.
    Thank you.

I know they need to be converted, but the problem is, 2000 of the 5000 have already been converted. now it's trying to convert them again. but there is no reason for that. i want to know how to convert the other files that weren't converted yet, without having to re-convert the ones that were already done.
I would move the ones that were done to a separate folder, but I don't know exactly what ones were done. In iTunes, they are the first 2000 or so in the list, but on my hard drive they are not in the same order.
Does anyone else know if there's a way to do this?

  • Selectively Prevent Certain files from Syncing?

I have some enormous mp3 files (~300MB) in my iTunes library (ambient background sounds that I use with my cans) And I would like to prevent these from auto syncing with my ipod.
I am aware of two methods of doing this, however neither of these methods really do what I want.
    1. Have unchecked songs not sync to ipod.
    - This is what I typically use to selectively keep stuff on my 8GB nano, however the problem is that I am effectively no longer able to use these unchecked songs in iTunes like in playlists or shuffle mode, unless I specifically double-click on the file. Most importantly the files wont repeat even if that option is selected, and the file is manually double clicked.
    2. Manually Manage songs on ipod.
    - This is a real drag, considering that I only have 5~6 files that cause issue due to their colossal file size.
Are there any other exclusion methods that I am unaware of?
    Thanks for the help.

You could just put all the music you want synced to your ipod into a playlist and tell your ipod to just sync to that playlist.

  • APEX File Browser ITEM - select only XML Files

I have problem with File Browser Item.

accept="text/xml"but note the warnings about poor browser support.

  • Itunes and Ipod skips certain files

Itunes has decided that it doesn't want to play certain files in my library that have worked before. It will get partway through a track, stop playing and freeze my computer for a few minutes until it decides to just skip to the next track, and everything is okay until it hits another one it doesn't like.
It also won't let me transfer all of my music to my ipod. It stops when it hits those files that it doesn't like, so I have to keep going manually.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, but it didn't help. I'm using the same mp3's I always have that worked before.

The error I get when I try to synch my ipod is (-69)

  • Can you select only certain email folders to show up in Thunderbird?

We use shared folders between proxy users. We have records requests and need a faster way to provide the request to the citizen who is requesting the information. Thunderbird is a work around so we can easily forward the information that is in one folder. We would like to know if there is a way to only sync up with the one designated folder or if we have sync the entire email account.

right click the account and select settings.
Under server setting select advanced and select only show subscribed folders.
    Right click the account again
Select subscribe and subscribe to only the folder/s you want to see.
To make things faster you can also go to the synchronization and storage settings section in account settings and deselect the keep messages for this account on this computer. This will cause only the header information to compile the mail list to be downloaded and the message body will be fetched on demand. This will reduce traffic on the network as the messages will not be downloaded to each user, unless they are needed for viewing, printing forwarding et cetera.

  • HT201302 This does NOT give an option to select only certain photos to transfer! It only allows ALL photos to be transferred!

I have tried this method several times & there is no option anywhere to select certain photos to be imported! Sure I can import ALL my photos but what I want is to only import a few! whoever keeps posting the same method is wrong!

If you're doing it via iTunes it transfers all the photos in a certain folder. If you choose 'my photos' folder then it'll put everything in that folder onto your iPad.
If you want just a few you can always copy those photos into a different folder and then choose that one for the sync. Or you can use dropbox or simply e-mail them to yourself.
Syncing via iTunes does have one 'whammy' in that if you sync them on, you have to sync them off, you can't delete them off the iPad without using iTunes to delete them.
For me when I was wanting just a few onto my iPad, I made a 'ipad photos' folder on my desktop, copied those photos into there, designated that folder in itunes and synced and they were on there.
