On iPad 2 can files be compressed on HD to increase storage capacity?

I bought my daughter an iPad 2 3rd generation.  I know the HD capacity is 16 Gb and iOS 7.01 takes up about
1 Gb of het capacity, giving her about 15 Gb to use for apps and data storage. I have three questions about that.
Q1.  Can She use a flash drive to download apps and files to the flash drive, then access the flash drive as an
external data storage to view/listen to photos, video and music and; most important; can she download apps
and run them from the drive on the system itself if she does so?
Q2.  Can she compress the files on the HD to increase the storage capacity of the HD, and still have the ability
run the downloaded apps, view videos, etc.  Can she still access the compressed files, if she can do so?
Q3.  iPad 2 has no paper guide or owner's manual, but. Apple has an ipad Guide (140pp) that can be down-
loaded and viewed. Can she download iPad User/Owners "Guide for iPad Using OS 7.01 ondto her iPad and
put an icon for it on her iPad desktop for easy reference?
Thank you for your help.

Q1. There are compatible flashdrives tha allwo you to do this through their own Apps such as the Sandisk Wireless Flash Drive among others.   http://www.sandisk.com/products/wireless/flash-drive/  It cannot eb done with regular flash drives though.
Q2.  No. No compression is available on the iPad.
Q3. She can bookmark the iPad's manual website and place an icon on the home screen for the url, or download the Book version to iBooks for free.
Just tap on Arrow coming out of a box icionin Safari, and then tap on Place on Home Screen.

  • My friend signed into gmail on my iPad safari browser and it kept asking him if he wanted to increase storage capacity size.

My friend signed into their gmail account on my iPad and asked if he would like to increase storage capacity. He clicked no but then it signed him out.
I know this happened once before but he was still able to sign into gmail. He tried again but it still did the same thing.
Is there a way to get around this?

You need to return it to the seller and get your money back.  You cannot reset or use the device with another AppleID installed unless you know the password for that ID.
If the device has been jailbroken, no one on here can give you any further help...the Terms of Use prohibit us from doing so.

  • How do I delete photos so I can use my software; I've exceeded my storage capacity?

I've exceeded my storage capacity.  How do I delete photos so I can use my Photoshop software?

Please be aware that if you remove something from your online account (Photoshop.com), which was marked for Sync, corresponding files in Catalog will be removed. For this, there is a preference which ensures that you are always asked if you want to remove or retain the file in Catalog. Even if preference is not checked, files are only removed from Catalog and not from HDD.

  • Why can't I download movies when I've just increased my storage capacity?

Tried downloading a movie rental but was told I need to increase storage capacity in local settings. I changed my plan to the max amnt
(55GB) with 49 remaining. However, when I tried downloading a rental once again, the same thing happened.  I've turned my iPad on and
    off to no avail. Thoughts?

When you download the movie to your iPad, it uses storage space on the iPad itself, purchasing additional iCloud storage will not help you at all. You will need to free up some space on your iPad.

  • I deleted my ibooks author file but the preview is still available on my ipad, can I get the ibook back into ibooks author to continue to edit?

I deleted my ibooks author file but the preview is still available on my ipad, can I get the ibook back into ibooks author to continue to edit? I have not published anything, just previewed on my ipad but the file seems to be deleted from my imac which is what I was using ibooks author on. Any help is welcome!

It's not a 'process' at all.
If it was easy/straightforward, people would be turning store versions into iBA versions left/right and all **** would break loose. It's not and that's a good thing, sorry
Work up from whatever version you have.
Any work you value should be backed up....period. That backup should be used and tested regularly. Consider this a lesson learned, perhaps. Good luck in the future.

  • Can DataPump Export Compress the Dump file?

    hi everyone,
    This is 10g.
I use the expdp utility to export 1 schema at month-end. The size of the .dmp file is 9 GB.
Can expdp perfrom compression to reduce the size of the dump file ?
    Thanks, John

    Thanks Srini and Dean.
I dont have 11g so I could only benefit by 10g's ability to compress metadata.
My monthly export is for 1 user schema. I assume the schema contains both data and metadata which means if I requested compression, I would get a smaller dump file. Is that a good assumption? Would I still get only 1 dump file or do you get more than one file when compression is used?
The 10g documentation I have read about expdp does not mention how to request compression.
    Thanks, John

  • So the new ipad can open PPS files?

I recall with the previous generations (ipad 1, 2) you had to download a software like Keynote to open an attachment file in PPS format. It seems the new ipad can open such files straight out of box without installing any additional program. Is it because of the 5.1 update?

Wow...just wow... I love when I fix my own tech problems.
As mentioned before I felt my iTunes was the problem even though it was up to date.
    I un-installed it and ensured I re-installed a 64bit version of it.
I synced it with the iPad but nothing changed.
Then I realised that maybe my zone alarm firewall might be the cause of all my problems even though I already tried syncing with zone alarm off (which didn't work) I thought maybe updating it to the latest version would fix the issue. I have long been aware that zone alarm has cause different issues with iTunes and iProducts. I don't know if anyone has ever covered it on these forums.
After installing the most current version of zone alarm firewall. I synced my iPad with iTunes and IT WORKED. My videos now play on the iPad perfectly.
Hopefully this new version of zone alarm won't cause any other conflicts otherwise I maybe have to remove it.
So in summary, ensure you are using the latest version of iTunes. If you are using zone alarm firewall. Update it or if that doesnt work then uninstall it complete and use another firewall.
Thanks to all who offered their suggestions.

  • On iPad can I open a Microsoft word file with apple pages app?

On iPad, can I open a Microsoft word file with apple pages application?  If so how do I perform this activity?

Yes you can open Word files. If it is an email attachment you can simply tap and hold down on the icon and select "open in" and then select Pages - as long as you have the Pages app on the iPad.
Where is the file on your iPad or how do you want to move it to the iPad?

  • How do I transfer PDF files from PC to IPAD using Itunes 12.1.2.  Previous versions let me drag file in Itunes to Ipad and files appeared under Ibook but can't get it to work in latest 12.1.2 version.

How do I transfer PDF files from PC (Windows 7) to IPAD using Itunes 12.1.2.  I would like to do files manually rather then auto synch.  Previous versions let me drag file in Itunes to Ipad and files appeared under Ibook and then I could move them to an appropriate collection title.  The interface appears to have changed in the latest ITunes version and I am not sure what the proper procedure is.

King_Penguin - Thanks it worked perfectly.  I had my pdf files copied into ITunes on my PC but when I clicked on a pdf file to copy it I thought the sidebar would appear with my IPAD name and then I would drag it over.  I didn't realize that I needed to click-and start dragging it towards the left-hand side for the sidebar to appear.  It worked like a charm - THANKYOU!!!

  • Import XAVC S videos to an Ipad, can I ?

I've been wondering If I can import videos taken with my Sony HDR-AS100V to an Ipad air or mini Retina, using the ''lighting to sd card camera reader adapter'' by apple. Does an ipad support xavc s ? In other words, can I play xavcs videos on an ipad and maybe edit them with Imovie or any other app ? because that would be amazing, i wouln't have to carry my laptop if i travel, in order to edit my videos. So maybe some of you have an ipad and you guys can tell me.

Yes. You can. I've been searching for an answer for this myself. I have a Sony a6000 and it just got the firmware update to enable XAVC S encoding (in an MP4 file container). Before this I was stuck with AVCHD (in a MTS file container). iOS would have nothing to do with .MTS files so even when I transfered them they would never get recognized by the Photos app. Since being able to use XAVC S (in .mp4) I've been able successfully transfer movies from my camera to my iPad using a Travel Router/SD Card Reader like this (http://amzn.com/B00INMB23Q) along side an app called FileBrowser (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/filebrowser-access-files-on/id364738545). You basically connect your iPad/iPhone to the Travel routers network after which you can view/transfer the contents of the SD card (using the FileBrowser app) to your camera roll. It can be a little complicated. But it works on iPhone and iPad. Screenshot illustrating transfer process - https://i.imgur.com/PQuO9ni.png An easier method would be to get Lightning to USB camera connection cable and do what this guy did (https://vimeo.com/105277558). Notice the step where he changed the USB Connection mode to MTP. This is important because the iPad will baulk at devices that try to charge or sip power from it. This basically tells the camera not to try and charge itself from the iPad. This method only works on the iPad. Since Apple has not made all the storage APIs available to iPhone. Good luck!

  • To see my iPad's files on my Mac

At Windows' case if I connect my ipad to Windows I have to use the WinSCP to see into my iPad's files.
In case of MAC which how can i see into my iPad's files?

If you want to copy files to the iPad then you need to copy them into an app - there is no file system as there is on a PC or Mac, each file/document has to be stored/associated with an app that supports that file type. Depending on what apps you've got on your iPad (and what transfer methods they support) then you can copy files to those apps on your iPad either via the file sharing section at the bottom of the iPad's apps tab on your computer's iTunes, via wifi, email attachments, Dropbox etc. If you don't have an app on the iPad that supports a particular file type then you can't copy that file to the iPad.
