On its side

Is any significant harm likely to come to my time capsule/data if I store the unit on its side?
I have a (metal) cabinet into which the time capsule will fit very nicely, if placed on its side, with the rubber base against the rear of the cabinet.
Thanks in advance

Hello mj williams. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is any significant harm likely to come to my time capsule/data if I store the unit on its side?
No.
I have a (metal) cabinet into which the time capsule will fit very nicely, if placed on its side, with the rubber base against the rear of the cabinet.
The more likely issue you will be confronted with will be Wi-Fi signal degradation because of the metal cabinet.

  • Contract item customer fields not getting saved from ITS side??

    Hi there,
I have had to add "account assignment" details to a contract item (3 fields: account assignment, G/L account and cost center)...
All is going fine....in fact the 3 fields have been added on the contract item level in function group BBP_CTR_UI_ITS screen 4100. I followed the instructions in SAP note number 458591 "user defined fields: preparation and use"...
The 3 fields I added where "generated" down to SAP table level and now appear in table BBP_PDIGP...
Also when I create a contract from transaction BBP_CTR_MAIN and fill my 3 new fields in on the item level all works fine when I release the contract...the contract item gets created and the 3 new fields appear nicely in table BBP_PDIGP....so from the GUI side all is PERFECT...
I have worked on the ITS side of things quite a bit but now I clearly don't understand something...
I go to "internet service" BBP_CTR_MAIN - template SAPLBBP_CTR_UI_ITS 4100.....I have added my code and my 3 fields display perfectly on the web page....for each contract item.....
As I said I can make the contract with the 3 new fields filled perfectly via the GUI (transaction BBP_CTR_MAIN)....and if I VIEW that contract on the web it also displays perfect with the 3 filled in fields....
If I COPY that contract.....and save the new one, the 3 fields are still fine, all saved.
    NOW COMES THE PROBLEM:-)
If I create a new contract from the web, fill in my 3 fields on the contract item level THE 3 FIELD VALUES SEEM TO NOT GET POSTED BACK AND SAVED IN THE SRM DATABASE...
I have tried everything from using FIELD-GET, FIELD-SET...the note I mentioned above mentions some BADI's that I could possibly use:
    BBP_CUF_BADI_2 (modify screen methods etc)
    BBP_DOC_SAVE_BADI
All I really want to try understand is how interaction between the user clicking on the web page and the SAP GUI screen flow is really happening.....I mean I see in function group BBP_CTR_UI_ITS there are a number of function modules with ITS in them, are those function modules just called when the user is clicking on the web (via ITS etc) - I would assume so...
Bottomline is I need what is happening in the SAP GUI to happen on the web as well.....it is almost there, I just need a push in the right direction so that I can grab the fields from the web page, in the most standard way possible.
Thanks for the help, I am very curious to see how this sort of solved.
    Regards

    Thanks OT,
I tried the Export function but it would not allow me to choose the option of exporting to iMovie. I think you are right about needing Quicktime Pro. I opened iMovie and imported the clip from iPhoto and with some searching found the 'cropping, rotation' mechanism. So I now have a copy in the correct orientation. I plan to import/export it back to iPhoto because I want to have a copy on my iPhone to show people and I wanted to have it available as part of a slideshow I am making in iPhoto of my recent overseas trip. It is a pain that there is no simple orientating tool for the movie clips downloaded to iPhoto with the photos from the one camera.

  • Iation.  When I import it to iMovie 6.0.3 the clip is on its side.  How do I rotate it 90% .  You ten have to turn your head sideways to view it !  How can I rotate the orientation?

I've imported a QTPmovie 10.03 from my iphone4 in portait orientation.

  • IPhone work switch to Cover Flow, portrait view when turned on its side!

    Hi
I have only had my phone for a week and its seems to have just stopped switching to Cover Flow or portrait view in Safari or when looking at photos when its turn on its side.. but everything else appears to work fine...
I've restarted, refreshed, recharged, reinstalled the software from scratch and its still the same...
    Any ideas?

That's the weird thing. In all the apps I have the accelerometer appears to rejoster the motion correcty.
I have an app with a small ball that moveswhen you tilt or rotate the iPhone and this clearly register the rotation perfectly. So I can only assume the accerometer is working fine.
But when I go to Safari and rotate the iPhone on it's side it doesn't rotate the browser as it should.
When I go into iTunes and again rotate the iPhone it doesn't change to cover flow.
And again when looking at pictures it doesn't rotate the image.
The annoying thing is that it all used to work and only just seems to have stopped, yet nothing has happened to have caused this.

  • Can a G5 run on its side, can it be used horizontally?

I have a fully functional dual 2 ghz G5 tower and was wondering if it can function on its side? Or, does it have to be vertical?

Not a G5 but Mac Pro, only issue is whether the optical drive is designed (with a lip) to hold media in place. Otherwise, shouldn't matter or be different. I've had mine this way for nearly 3 yrs, sometimes upright as well but easier to get at parts.
Just my take on this and it has been asked a couple times, but can't recall seeing it mentioned in G5 forum.

Try plugging it into a computer with iTunes opened. If you see anything that says restore, say no.
Sometimes these issues resolve themselves when you connect the device to iTunes.
What happens when you hold the home and sleep/wake button? I know it doesn't work, but does it shut off at all?

  • Turned camera on its side to take a movie. The movie is also on its side.

I took a movie of my grandson's wedding, turning my SX40HS on its side.  When I downloaded the movie, it too was on its side.  How do I get it right side up?

    Uh oh.
    See "Vertical Video Syndrome":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt9zSfinwFA
All in fun, of course.  But the point behind the video is real.  Camera's wont flip the video the video on it's side to correct.  When shooting video, always hold the camera level (horizontal) and not turned on it's side.

  • Any problem with standing it on its side

I have placed my Apple TV standing on its side. THis makes it fit in with the DVDs I have next to it. I have space for ventilation. Should there be any concerns with leaving it this way

Falling over, overheating and premature failure, other than that nothing.
Surely if it was supposed to be stood upright it would come with a cradle/base or something?
Heat rises and when AppleTV is flat it has a large surface area to dissipate heat from. If end on you may have the hottest components at the bottom or the top and circulation and hence dissipation inside AppleTV might be poor without you knowing it.

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Windows forum.

    Resolving Side-by-Side Configuration Issues - OJ's perspective

  • CS6 says "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect..."?

CS6 won't open--whenever I try to open a CS6 application, a windows pops up and says "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." This occurs for every single CS6 program (PS, Flash, etc.) except Illustrator. Illustrator is the only one that will open.
I have Windows 8. I've had CS6 for about half a year and this is the first time this has happened.

    Did you ever find resolution?

  • Using Mac Pro on its side?

My first mac ever, the MacPro is due next Wednesday and I am wondering if it is possible to use it by turning it "on its side", ie, 90 degrees from its normal orientation.
Secondly, if that is possible, and I get a LCD monitor, could I place the monitor on "top" of the MacPro in this orientation".
Am concerned about air flow, etc, and sure don't want to do anything that would hurt the operation of my first Mac....

I may be a little nuts, but I thought perhaps it just might be more stable on its' side
They're pretty sturdy in their expected orientation. At 20+kg it'll take quite and effort to tip it over.
and the thought of a little grandchild "accidentally" bumping the MacPro over when I was not looking seemed like a reasonable apprehension
True, although one option is to screw a small bracket to the table to stop this from happening. I've see a couple of people do this for child-proofing (though not specifically for a Mac). Two small pieces of wood to size in an L-shape and four angled brackets and screws.
As for the optical drive try, in a vertical orientation (for the drive) there needs to be a little clip that extends over the discs to stop it falling out when inserting and ejecting it. Without that (it'll be part of the tray) it's not avisable. You could always swap the optical drive (or install a 2nd drive) with one that has this clip.

  • Turning Touch on its Side...NOT WORKING HELP!?!?!?

    Hello All,
I am a new Apple user so please be nice
I just got my Ipod Touch in the mail today and have been fooling around with it for a few hours now.
When I try and turn the Ipod on its side (so that you get the landscape view of photos, websites, or the CD Cover catalog), it doesn't always work.
Sometimes I have to flip the Touch back and forth 15 times at all different angles before the a photo switched from Portrait View to Landscape view.
Is there a trick to turning it on its side, or is this a defective Touch? Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Joe

It seems that if I tilt it up and turn it on its side, then it switches to landscape view, but if I have it laying flat in my palm, and just rotate my palm, it doesn't move.
    Is this normal?
    Thanks for the response.

  • Can a Mac pro tower be laid on its side for use

Can a Mac Pro Tower be placed on its side and be used that way without any damage occurring?

Yes. Did that with mine for years. Only issue was even though the Pioneer has a DVD "lip" to hold in place it was awkward at times.
I use something like a coffee table. Put a rubber backed pad to absorb sound vibration, allows all those messy cables to go underneath (and curtain would be nice too).

  • Stupid question: Can I stan TC on its side?

I have a TC 500Gb. Can I stand it on its side without damaging the router or HD or does it need to stand on its 'feet' (ie flat)?

Basically all iMac owners have their internal HDDs on its side. Just don't try to hide it in between some books or something as TC NEEDS room to cool as it can get quite warm.
Check out the link below to see how orienting TC would affect the interior. The antennae appear to be on 3 sides.
